Every Little Thing We've Heard About American Horror Story Season 7
Surprise, surprise: we're nearly six months out from the finale of American Horror Story: Roanoke and we still know precious little about the next installment. Unlike the silent, painful months leading up to last year's premiere, though, we do have a few spare details that hint at what's to come. We also have a very interesting preliminary cast. But we're not ones to twiddle our thumbs and wait. We're digging around to figure out as much as we can about season seven. Naturally, the best place to start is with the actors and creators themselves, so we've compiled every mysterious quote that we've heard so far.
- Ryan Murphy's basing it around the 2016 election. "I don't have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through. I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.
- Cocreator Tim Minear teased a "completely batsh*t" plotline. "At the beginning of every season, in order to secure the tax benefit, you have to give a synopsis of what you're doing. That was not OK with Ryan [Murphy], but we had to give them something [for Roanoke], so we made up this completely batsh*t thing for those two paragraphs. And the funny thing is, we're doing it this year."
- Murphy wants you to think twice before you start casting a "Trump" and a "Clinton" character. "I think people literally think Sarah Paulson is playing Hillary Clinton, and I wanted to clarify that that is not true. Horror Story is always about allegory, so the election is allegory. It's our jumping-off point. It is about the election we just went through and what happened on that night and the fallout of that night, which to many people, from all sides of the camps, is a horror story. And you know, that show is always so fun when it's about the zeitgeist and what we're doing now."
- If there IS a Trump character, Sarah Paulson wants to play him. "I'd like to play Donald Trump. If Donald Trump is going to be in a character in it . . . why not? That's an acting challenge to be sure."
- Murphy is changing the game again, like he did with Roanoke. "It's also a narratively strange idea. I've already started to call people saying, 'Put this on your calendar.' It's a good one."
- Denis O'Hare wants to see "body snatchers" and "backstabbing." "What if that candidate is a murderer, or the candidate is not actually a human being and they're trying to pass it off as a human being? There's great opportunities with factional backstabbing. There's great backstage intrigue. There's a live television idea, because so much is televised. Can you imagine horrible things happening on live television? Yeah, and I think body snatchers! I think there should be a body snatchers meets politics."
- Murphy unveiled the season's starting point. "It's really, really fun. It starts on election night is all I'll say . . . It's very scary that night for many people. It's fun, you will like it. It's really a season that will have a lot of people interested and I think there's something for everybody in that season."
- Adina Porter expects blood . . . and fake news. "There will be blood, you know? That's all I can think about. There's going to be blood and gore, and it's going to make us think. And I really hope they can figure out a way to put in some 'fake news.'"
