How a Dad Helped This Determined Mom Breastfeed After a Terrifying Car Accident

After another car hit her van head on, Ashley Davis and her baby are lucky to be alive. According to the mom of five, the other vehicle was going about 65 miles per hour - and didn't hit its breaks or try to swerve out of the way - when it smashed directly into her.

Ashley's 5-week-old infant was the only passenger in the car with Ashley, and though this Missouri mom was left with multiple broken bones, her baby only suffered one small bruise on her shoulder from her car seat's strap. After the scary ordeal, Ashley underwent surgery to add four screws into her pinkie, but despite both of her hands being bandaged and dealing with a broken rib, this mom was still determined to nurse her newborn.

"My husband has been so helpful and supportive with me breastfeeding because he knows how much it means to me. He would make a great lactation consultant," Ashley shared on the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook page. "We are blessed."

The grateful mom explained how her husband stood up to doctors for her and told them that she wanted to nurse her baby. He's also been by her side offering endless support since she can't "have the good meds" as her body heals because she made the decision to breastfeed. "He is helping me cope with the pain with extra ice and keeping me supplied with water; he has been amazing," Ashley wrote. Despite everything Ashley has been through, this strong mama isn't letting anyone stop her breastfeeding journey, and she has a supportive husband by her side to help her feed her baby exactly how she wants.
