New Study Reveals Why Nose-Picking, Booger-Eating Kids Are Actually Healthier

Parents of nose pickers, rejoice!

It's no secret that kids can be downright disgusting and that nose-picking is just one sticky habit that contributes to the grossness. But as much as parents try to discourage their toddlers and kiddos from picking their noses - and especially eating the treasures they find - a new study is proving them wrong.

As "gross" as this substance is, scientists found that those boogers are actually beneficial because of the healthy bacteria found in snot that promotes gum and teeth health. The researchers explained that salivary mucins found in snot can protect teeth from bacteria responsible for cavities. This means that when a child picks his or her nose and eats it, the boogers can help shield their teeth from harmful bacteria and other dental issues.

Although these findings can help bring a sense of relief to some parents (filling cavities is expensive!), it most likely doesn't make this habit any more desirable or worth encouraging!
