People Are Losing It Over the Possible Return of McDonald's Szechuan Sauce

Rick and Morty fans are holding out for the return of McDonald's Szechuan McNugget sauce. As an April Fools' Day treat, Adult Swim aired the first episode of season three, and since then, fans haven't stopped talking about one scene in particular: the McDonald's Szechuan sauce scene. In the episode, Rick tries to order a 10-piece McNugget with "a bunch of the Szechuan sauce." At the end, Rick is in hysterics and pleading for the return of the sauce. He says, "I'm not driven by avenging my dead family, Morty. That was fate. I'm driven by finding that McNugget sauce. That's my series arc, Morty. If it takes nine seasons . . . I want my McNugget Szechuan sauce. That's what's gonna take us all the way to the end."

The Szechuan sauce was released in 1998 as part of a promotion for the premiere of Disney's Mulan. That was almost 20 year ago . . . feel old yet?!

The love for the sauce is so real that Rick and Morty fans already started a petition called Bring Back McDonald's Chicken Nugget Szechuan Sauce, which has 21,000 signatures and counting. While McDonald's has not released an official statement, it did send out a tweet in response to Rick and Morty's question, "You wanna get in on this?"

Plus, when Business Insider writer Ashley Lutz tweeted at McDonald's, she got a promising response from McDonald's Corporate Chef Mike Haracz.

What does it all mean?! We'll have to wait and see how it plays out and thank Rick and Morty if McDonald's ends up bringing the beloved sauce back.
