Riverdale's Camila Mendes on Getting Typecast: "I Didn't Want to Play a Stereotype"

Before landing her role as Veronica Lodge in The CW's Riverdale, Camila Mendes was still trying to find her way. But she knew one thing: She wanted to make sure she wasn't being typecast. In an interview with Cosmopolitan.com about her journey as a Latina in Hollywood, she discussed not wanting to fall into stereotypes as she chose roles.

" A lot of the roles [I read for] were the urban, underprivileged kids that grew up in the Bronx on shows that were about crime. I didn't want to play a stereotype. I still find myself, even post-Riverdale, where I'm not Latina enough and I'm not white enough. I'm somewhere in between. I was born and raised in the US but both my parents are full Brazilian. Also, Brazilian is different than Dominican, that's different from Venezuelan. They're all different types of Latinos. You can't categorize them as one big thing," she told Cosmopolitan.com.

Camila is killing the game as Veronica and we can't wait to see more of her story develop throughout the show.
