These Badass Biker Chicks Deliver Breast Milk to Babies in Need
This group of amazing women on wheels has teamed up with the New York Milk Bank to deliver breast milk to babies in need, and they do it quickly! The Sirens Women's Motorcycle Club of New York City is proving that you can be totally badass and still help those in need. The group of about 50 women fill a void in the delivery process that is often slowed down by traffic, but that's not a problem when you're on two wheels.
"We are uniquely positioned to do the job," one of the Sirens said. When a baby's life depends on breast milk that they might not have access to, the Sirens come in with their huge hearts and accelerated pedals. "We have our product," Executive Director of New York Milk Bank, Julie Bouchet-Horwitz, told the New York Post. "Our product is human milk. So what we do is, women who have too much milk, we screen them, test their blood, pasteurize it, and then distribute it."
What makes the relationship between the Sirens and the New York Milk Bank so crucial is the speedy delivery. If a baby is born prematurely, the mother is encouraged to pump her breast milk in order to prevent infections and diseases in the baby, but sometimes a mother cannot produce milk and must seek donated milk - that's where the Sirens come in.
"Boy, these are badass women and it just seemed like such a great idea to be able to employ their services to help us," Bouchet-Horwitz said.
