This Designer Took a $1 Ikea Bag and Made It "Fashion"
Balenciaga's Men's Spring 2017 show was filled with enormous oversize bags and vibrant colors, but one item sticks out as particularly familiar. The cobalt-blue Arena Creased-Leather Holdall ($2,145) bag resembles a staple of our favorite affordable furniture store, Ikea. The Frakta large blue shopping bag from Ikea is a customer favorite for moving, storing, and even doing laundry.
It's interesting that Balenciaga would reimagine the $1 bag in luxe leather, but seems fitting coming from Demna Gvasalia. The designer frequently draws inspiration from streetwear and famously designed the popular Yellow DHL T-Shirt ($330) for Vetements. If you've always admired the aesthetic of the iconic Ikea bag, this leather version features a zip closure to keep all of your (presumably numerous) possessions out of harm's way.
