This Is the Most Important Thing Other People Need to Do While You're Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding moms certainly deserve extra love and support, so the hugely popular Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook group asked its 900,000 members for their thoughts on what nursing women felt they needed most. The list of dos and don'ts included sage advice, like "bring me water!" and "try not to make lots of abrupt or loud sounds that distract the baby," there was one resoundingly common request:

"Talk to me about adult things! Not about my boobs!"

Hear that, friends and family? When a mom is feeding her child, even if she's doing it in the same room as you, she doesn't necessarily need it to be the focal point of the conversation.

"I loved it when my breastfeeding was a non-issue," another woman said. "Like, everyone went about our conversation like nothing was different. Normalizing breastfeeding at its finest."

These women also empathize that sometimes it might seem inappropriate to be chatting away while they're dealing with a hungry baby, but trust that it's often OK. As one said, "Remember that I am listening, even if I am staring at the baby struggling to latch on."
