Workers Are Reportedly Making $62 a Week to Manufacture Ivanka Trump's Clothing Line
Ivanka Trump's clothing line is under fire again. Following the revelation that Stein Mart was selling Trump's clothes under a different label, another damning report discloses that the company responsible for manufacturing her line, G-III Apparel Group Ltd., violated multiple international trade treaties.
According to an investigation by the Fair Labor Association, an international organization dedicated to promoting laborers' rights, G-III's Chinese factories accumulated two dozen UN labor violations. Most egregious and, sadly, unsurprising of the report's findings? How overworked and underpaid laborers are at G-III's factories.
The Fair Labor Association discovered that workers were paid $62 for a 60-hour workweek - which rounds out to about $255 a month - in its October report. Worse still, the factories also violated overtime regulations; workers logged between 42 and 82 hours of overtime when 36 hours is supposed to be the limit.
While the report did not specifically mention Trump's clothing line, the investigation centered on G-III's faults. The manufacturer also has partnerships with DKNY, Calvin Klein sportswear, Levi's, and Tommy Hilfiger, to name a few. Trump, who has since stepped down from her official role at her the eponymous brand to take a position in her father's administration, has yet to respond to the report. However, Trump's brand cited G-III's statement when asked for comment. "Our goal is to always attain and maintain the best labor conditions possible in these factories," the company said in a statement to NBC News.
Now, it seems the Chinese trademarks Trump's brand recently acquired after she coincidentally dined with the country's president might encounter some difficulty coming to fruition.
