I Tried Becca's New Lilac Highlighter - and It Turned Me Into an Iridescent Fairy

Here's the thing: highlighters and I have never been the best of friends. I've tried cream versions. I've tried powders. And I've accepted the fact that I just can't achieve that luminescent glow I love - and envy - on beauty bloggers. I have oily skin that, without fail, develops an unsightly T-zone slick by 1 p.m. each day. I'm really self-conscious about it, and I feel like highlighters just draw attention to it and make me look greasier. I've been Team Matte Skin for as long as I can remember. Then, I tried Becca's new Lilac Geode Shimmering Skin Perfector ($38).
The buzzy new launch has been circling social media. POPSUGAR has an exclusive first look at it before it lands at Ulta.com on Aug. 20 and BeccaCosmetics.com on Sep. 24, and it had me at hello - or, at least, gave me high hopes. How could you not fall for the shiny, violet-colored compact? I opened it up, and inside, the powder was shaped in a cool geometric pattern and had the dreamiest pearl shade that looks both pastel purple and gold at the same time.

Then came the moment of truth. Using a fan brush, I applied some product to my cheekbones. "There it is!" I told myself as I immediately got the Instagram-worthy shimmer that had previously eluded me. It created an iridescent gold veil on my skin that looked gorgeous in sunlight but even persisted under my office's unflattering fluorescent lighting. My round face suddenly got cheekbones. Plus, the velvety powder blended so flawlessly into my skin that it could convincingly be passed off as a natural glow (not grease!).

I got so addicted, I applied some to my shoulders, too, for an all-over shine. It left me feeling like a GD fairy.

Needless to say, Becca has totally turned me into a highligher convert. Now, if you don't mind me, I'll be in the corner serving my best "influencer" face and taking selfies. Can you blame me?
