Mom Flying With 3 Kids Got Help Soothing Her Crying Baby From a Total Stranger
Although Kesha Bernard boarded her vacation flight without her own kids, the mom still ended up with a baby on her lap because she's "a decent human being." The mom of two and photographer took to Facebook to further explain this statement along with a photo of the stranger's baby on her lap to encourage other people to stop being so judgmental and to support their fellow humans.
"Listen . . . it takes a village to raise kids, OK?" Bernard wrote. "And as a mom of a 3-year-old and 4-year-old I KNOW this. And I also know that toddlers can be assholes . . . so first let me just tell you what happened."
The mom goes on to explain that upon boarding her full Alaskan Airways flight, there were a few weight issues with the plane, so all of the passengers were seated while waiting for takeoff. Although a baby began crying during this time, Bernard, who's used to whines and cries from her own kids, tuned it out - but other passengers couldn't do the same. Bernard did her best to ignore the other people's huffing and puffing over the crying baby, but then one of the woman's other children, a toddler, began screaming.
Bernard says she was able to tune this out as well, but eventually she hit her breaking point and couldn't ignore the situation any longer. "I hear a woman complaining to this mother (that's alone with two crying kids) that her child need to stop kicking her seat," Bernard explained. "THEN I hear the mother say, 'She's 3 I cant believe you just did that." Apparently the lady reached behind her and grabbed the child's leg (aka 'oh hell no'). While this is happening the freaking flight attendant is just standing there listening. Not even doing anything. And the older men beside me make remarks like 'obviously her way of discipline isn't working,' so I reply with 'she's probably afraid to do anything . . . you cant do anything anymore" and they stopped talking."
Following her attempt to fight off some of the judgmental passengers, Bernard turned her focus back to the mother. After 15 minutes of waiting for someone to do something to help the woman dealing with her crying baby, screaming toddler, and third older child, who Bernard says was "very well-behaved," she got up to go over to the mom.
SO . . . being a decent human being I couldn't take letting this mother drown back there (and let me tell you, she was being so freaking calm you guys . . . like i would have already been crying, but she was doing so good). I get up out of my seat go a few rows back and go ask her if she needs help (apparently that's so hard to do) she immediately handed me her baby. (This lady was like HOLY HELL YESSSSSSSS!) I take her baby and then I have to go sit down for take off . . . the crying stopped (its a miracle). So I'm sitting here holding this precious baby that so happens to fall asleep (swooooon).
My point???? Be nice and considerate. If someone needs help for God's sake HELP THEM. Complaining and mumbling doesn't do a damn thing except make the person that needs help feel worse (words hurt ) . . . this flight should be ashamed of themselves. You're telling me I'm the only ONE out of a full plane that was willing to help???? How we can ignore a human in distress beyond me.
Bernard ends her post with a message not only to her fellow passengers, but to every single human being out there: "Please be kind. Please be considerate. Help one another . . . it makes everything easier. I promise you won't die."
