The 1 Thing I Add to My Smoothie to Stay Full Until Lunch

When you think about the typical ingredients you might add into a smoothie, you probably think of protein powder, bananas, flaxseed, and spinach. While all of those items certainly have their place in my morning smoothies, I'm known to throw tofu into the blender as well. It sounds strange at first, but it's my secret weapon.

Getting enough protein every single day can be a struggle, which is why it's a good idea to pay close attention to your morning meal. By starting off your day with a healthy amount of protein, you don't have to worry about getting hungry an hour later, and you'll likely be able to make it to lunch without reaching for a snack.

That's why I add tofu to my smoothie. I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's Organic Tofu, which only has 60 calories per serving. It also packs in eight grams of protein, which is 17 percent of the recommended daily intake, and has zero grams of carbs. This particular kind of tofu is soft, so it blends well into my smoothie (definitely avoid the firm and extrafirm kind, as those won't mix well).

Not only does it give my smoothie a boost of protein, but it also makes the whole thing much creamier than before, kind of like if you put an avocado in your smoothie. The best part is you won't even know it's in your smoothie because you can't taste the tofu along with everything else. It has a very subtle, nutty undertone that I actually fell in love with.

Whether you're making a fruity smoothie with blueberries and banana or a chocolaty one with peanut butter, why not try it with some tofu? You'll have no problem reaching your daily goal of protein . . . and you won't be hungry for a long time after your smoothie is all said and done.
