This Fact About Kit Harington's Real Accent Might Make You Re-Evaluate Jon Snow

If you're a fan of Game of Thrones (or just a fan of sexy men in general), then Kit Harington is probably on your radar in a major way. The British actor has absolutely crushed his role as Jon Snow ever since the hit HBO show first premiered in 2011, and one thing you probably fell in love with right away is his accent. While Kit obviously shares a British accent with his onscreen character, they're actually different if you pay close attention.

The London-born actor opened up about it to Interview magazine in 2012 when he was asked if he had to learn the northern way of speaking for the show. "I auditioned for Jon Snow in my own accent," he said. "And then when we got to filming the pilot, they asked all of Sean Bean's sons to do Sean's accent, so we had to go and learn it quickly." Sean, who is originally from Handsworth in South Yorkshire, played Kit's onscreen father, Ned Stark, in season one. (The Starks are basically the royal family of the North, and Jon was recently named King in the North.) Don't believe us? Watch the videos and we guarantee you'll notice it immediately.
