This Post About "Transformation" Photos Will Make You Nod So Hard Your Head Will Fall Off
When it comes to social media, you oftentimes see perfection. But before going on extreme diets and fitness regimens in hopes of achieving the bodies that you see, there's something simple you need to consider: their posture.
Fitness blogger Lauren Tickner posted a photo on Instagram to highlight the drastic difference how you stand can make. "Posing is SO powerful: what you see of people on social media is NOT how they look 24/7 in real life!" she wrote on Instagram. "I know that if I arch my spine and pop my hip, I can make my stomach look flatter and my butt look bigger."
To prove her point, Lauren posted three dramatically different snapshots of her body taken only 30 seconds apart. "Of course, some people DO have big bums and flat stomachs. Similarly, slouching and 'letting go' of my stomach after a big meal makes it appear more bloated: it's just how it is!" she wrote. "Tucking your spine will make your butt look flatter: you can literally make your body look SO different, just by standing differently! As we see here, angles and posture are eveeeerything!"
Lauren admits that she, like many who post on Instagram, has learned how to pose to make herself look "best," and she wants people to remember this when they see "bad" photos of themselves or start to let negative body thoughts creep in. "I don't care how 'overdone' people say these photos are: I think they are SO important," she wrote. "I sometimes still stumble across a photo and think, 'Agh, I wish I looked like that...' BUT, they uploaded that photo for a REASON! They probably took 10000 others and chose that ONE photo."
With so many people taking countless snapshots from every angle before getting the perfect one and then photoshopping images before posting them, Lauren hopes that her "overemphasized" transformation helps remind women not to take everything they see to heart. "A lot of [people] have totally spun what I said and said that I am saying that transformation pictures are a load of rubbish; I do not think that!" Lauren told POPSUGAR. "I think that if anyone transforms in any way, it is so incredible! I am just showing the reality of the fact that you can change your body so easily with your posture! Changing your body composition is hard - but you can do it in a healthy and sustainable way!"
