4 Questions We All Have About the New Sabrina The Teenage Witch Series
Something wicked this way comes. After teasing the appearance of Sabrina Spellman on Riverdale for months now, it seems like the teenage witch might actually be getting her own series. Warner Bros. Television and The CW, the network behind the Archie Comics drama, are currently developing a new one-hour drama, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, for the 2018-2019 season. But this certainly won't be the lovable Sabrina (previously played by Melissa Joan Hart) we all remember - this one will be much more sinister. That being said, we definitely know a few actresses who could pull it off.
1. Who's Involved?
Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the adaptation alongside executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Lee Toland Krieger, who would direct the pilot if the project gets the green light.
2. What Is It About?
The series is being described as "a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult, and witchcraft." So, basically, a CW-version of American Horror Story: Coven.
3. Will It Be Scary?
It certainly sounds like it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is supposed to be a cross between Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist.
4. Will Sabrina Make an Appearance on Riverdale?
Now that a potential Sabrina series is underway, we can't help but wonder if the teenage witch will also make an appearance on Riverdale next season. Not only did the Chilling Adventures in Sorcery as Told by Sabrina comic book make an appearance in the season one finale when FP Jones was in jail, but there has been a long-running theory that Betty Cooper is actually a direct descendant of the Spellman coven. If the theory is true, it would certainly be the perfect opportunity to merge the Archie Comics worlds without full-out making Riverdale a supernatural series.
