Teacher Used Bread to Show What Happens When You Don't Wash Your Hands - and the Results Are Foul
If you're one of those parents who has to beg your child to wash their damn hands after going to the bathroom, we might just have the parenting hack you need. Donna Gill Allen, a teacher from North Carolina, did an experiment using pieces of bread that will put the whole hand-washing thing in a new light.
The elementary school teacher shared a photo of her little science experiment in a Facebook post along with an explanation:
To all my teacher friends: this is the grossest yet coolest experiment. I did this while teaching about germs and how they spread. You use three pieces of bread. You let all the kids see you put a piece of bread in a baggy with a glove on, hence "controlled;" then you wash your hands and put a piece of bread in a baggy for "clean;" last, but definitely not least, you pass a piece of bread around and let every kid in class touch it. Then you put it in a baggy and label it "dirty."
Although the results are pretty astounding in the grossest way possible, they show that there's absolutely no argument for not washing your hands. Allen also recommends showing this to any kid who seems to be allergic to soap. "Watch how the bread changes over time due to germs," she wrote. "It is so cool and a great way to teach the importance of hand washing."
