Walmart Is Testing "In-Fridge Delivery" - but the Internet Is Having Trust Issues
Amazon may want to watch its back because Walmart is coming for it with guns blazing. The grocery store chain is attempting to one up doorstep delivery, taking it a step further by testing a service that would put your groceries straight into your fridge. And yes, that means a delivery person would enter your home when you're not there to get the job done.
Walmart recently announced this news in a blog post, explaining that it's currently testing the idea in Silicon Valley. So how exactly is this "in-fridge delivery" operating during the testing phase? After customers place an order on Walmart.com, a driver retrieves the items and brings them to their home. If no one answers the doorbell, he or she will use a one-time passcode to enter, upon which the homeowner receives a notification and has the option to watch the whole delivery happen in real time with provided cameras. Once the delivery person unloads the groceries into the fridge, they leave and the door automatically locks. Now that's what I call convenience!
In theory, the idea sounds great. What's better than coming home to a fully stocked fridge sans having to morph into an octopus to carry 14 bags of groceries inside in one trip, am I right? But in reality, this would require tons of trust on the consumer's part, as the idea of letting a stranger into your home can be a bit nervewracking. So far it looks like the delivery service hasn't settled well with many social media users, as a whopping majority responded to a poll and admitted they wouldn't try it themselves.
Walmart is testing a service that lets a delivery person put your groceries away when you aren't home. Would you use this?

Ask me after I've carried in a car load of bags and I could probably give you an honest answer.

If I have a fridge on my covered front porch sure. It would be like the milkman used to be.
