The Struggle of Changing My Baby's Diaper Is Way Too Real

My 1-year-old son is my favorite little human and I love him more than anything, but whenever I change his diaper, he morphs into an insane person. He cries, flails, screams, grabs things, throws things, and generally loses his mind. Note: this is true no matter the circumstances. It doesn't matter where we are, how much he's slept, whether he's eaten, whether there's anything in the diaper, or what sort of mood he was in 14 seconds ago. It doesn't matter if I make funny faces, sing his favorite songs, or hand him toys. Without fail, he goes batsh*t crazy the moment I try to change his diaper.

I get it: Maybe the air is occasionally a bit brisk, or maybe he's a little tired, or maybe he's angry that I've pulled him away from his toy train. (Likely.) Regardless, it makes for a rough experience for both of us several times a day - particularly when he tries to roll around everywhere or throw himself off a changing table. For a while I suffered quietly, wondering what in the hell I was doing wrong. It's not a diaper-rash issue, warm wipes don't do the trick, and I've become an EXPERT at lightning-fast changing sessions. What's the deal? When I mentioned it to his doctor, who experienced my son's madness firsthand, she laughed, saying, "He's just fun. He'll grow out of it." She's right; he's super fun, but the diaper changing? Yeah, not so much.
