The Sweetbitter TV Adaptation Has Officially Found Its Tess!
Just when we thought we couldn't be more pumped about the Sweetbitter adaptation, which is officially in the works at Starz, some more exciting news was announced: the six-episode series has officially cast the lead! British actress Ella Purnell is on board as Tess, the complex heroine of Stephanie Danler's 2016 novel who comes of age while working as a server in one of NYC's top restaurants.
Purnell isn't exactly a household name quite yet, but there's a good chance you've seen the 21-year-old star before. She played Emma in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Amy in The Journey Is the Destination just last year, and popped up in 2013's Kick-Ass 2 as Dolce. Emmy winning writer-director Richard Shepard, who has directed a slew of Girls episodes, will direct the series premiere and is attached as an executive producer.
Tess is the only character who has been cast so far, but we can't wait to see who ends up playing Simone, Jake, and the rest of the restaurant's eclectic group of employees.
