“I Guess I Started a Trend!” Joked 1 of 9 Pregnant Nurses at the Same Maine Hospital

Can you imagine announcing your pregnancy at work, only to later find out that eight of your coworkers are pregnant, too? The nurses at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME, sure can! MMC Registered Nurse Erin Grenier is the first of nine nurses on the Labor and Delivery floor expecting a baby between April and July of this year. "I guess I started a trend!" Grenier joked.

The biggest advantage? "Everywhere we look, there's someone who's an expert!" said nurse Amanda Spear, who's due in early June. "It's really nice coming to work and seeing other people who are just as pregnant and watching their bellies pop and just talking about these experiences that we are going through together." These Labor and Delivery Nurses have been there for each other since the very beginning, making their coinciding pregnancies a major bonding experience. "After each one of us started to say, 'We're pregnant,' I think it was a happier announcement each time, and we're all there for each other," Grenier told WMTW.

Nurse Samantha Giglio, who's due on June 12, also says having such a huge support system is constantly reassuring. "I think it's comforting knowing we're all in this together," she said. When you work at a hospital and many of your friends are nurses, I guess there's really no better place to be pregnant.

The nurses even took a photo together, standing in order of their due dates. From left to right in the photo above they are Registered Nurses Erin Grenier, Rachel Stellmach, Brittney Verville, Lonnie Soucie, Amanda Spear, Samantha Giglio, Nicole Goldberg, Nicole Barnes, and Holly Selby.

While some of the nurses are second-time or even fourth-time moms, others are first-time moms. But working on the Labor and Delivery floor has prepared each of them for what to expect and how to be there for each other when the time comes. As for the coworkers' schedules, six of the nine nurses share the same weekend shift, but MMC has had plenty of time to prepare and has already planned to cover each shift.

All nine nurses plan to be there for each other's births to show support, and they plan to take another group photo again in the Fall once their babies have been born. Until then, keep reading to check out their matching outfits and to find out when each nurse is due!
