Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong Are 30-Something Bird BFFs in Netflix's Tuca & Bertie

Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong are the voices behind Netflix's upcoming animated series, Tuca & Bertie, which I'm pretty sure will become our new favorite show. I should add that the eponymous characters are actually two 30-something bird women: big-screen breakout comedian Haddish voices the bold and gregarious Tuca the toucan, and stand-up star Wong is her introverted BFF and neighbor, Bertie the songbird. The show follows them as they navigate what any other bird-woman would: careers, relationships, sex, and self-esteem. The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun plays Bertie's live-in boyfriend.
On Thursday, Netflix released a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at the making of the show, including sit-down interviews with the hilarious stars, who clearly have chemistry behind the mic. Of their characters, Wong says that there are some real-life similarities. "In a lot of ways, it kind of does mirror us. Tiffany's out there and about, and she's fun and not repressed, and I'm kind of a recluse and I'm a homebody." And as a huge BoJack Horseman fan, I immediately recognized the illustration style and was thrilled to see that supervising producer Lisa Hanawalt is the creator of this anthropomorphic sitcom, too.
Tuca & Bertie will also feature voice performances by Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, John Early, Reggie Watts, Tig Notaro, Amber Ruffin, Jermaine Fowler, and Tessa Thompson. The series hits Netflix on May 3, and I am in.
