Welcome Aboard, Mx! United Is the First Airline With Nonbinary Gender Booking Options

It's about time that your airline ticket matched your passport at check in, regardless of what "gender" you selected during booking.
United Airlines announced this morning that it has officially become the first US airline to offer nonbinary gender booking options. In addition, United has also added a "Mx" title option during booking, as well as to MileagePlus customer profiles.
During booking, United customers now have the option to identify themselves as M (male), F (female), U (undisclosed), or X (unspecified). With these four options - the same four already available on some government-issued identification cards - the airline's customers, regardless of how they identify, can finally match the information required during booking to that officially listed on their passport.
"United is determined to lead the industry in LGBT inclusivity, and we are so proud to be the first US airline to offer these inclusive booking options for our customers," said United Chief Customer Officer Toby Enqvist. "United is excited to share with our customers, whether they identify along the binary of male or female or not, that we are taking the steps to exhibit our care for them while also providing additional employee training to make us even more welcoming for all customers and employees."
In implementing these new and exciting changes, United has also worked with the Human Rights Campaign and The Trevor Project to create a more inclusive space for customers and employees alike. Employee training initiatives include teaching employees about preferred pronouns and LGBTQ+ competency in the workplace.
"At the Human Rights Campaign, we believe being acknowledged as the gender you identify with is part of treating everyone with dignity and respect," said Beck Bailey, acting director of the workplace equality program. "By providing nonbinary gender selection for ticketing and the gender-inclusive honorific 'Mx' in user profiles, United Airlines is taking an important step forward for nonbinary inclusion."
Welcome aboard, Mx!
