The Heartwarming Story Behind This Surprise Proposal Is a Testament That Love Conquers All

Calvin met Jeanette while they were in college, and over the course of their eight-year relationship, the pair have overcome many obstacles. For roughly four years, they were in a long-distance relationship as they each pursued their dreams. However, the greatest challenge in their relationship occurred when Calvin was hit by a car in New York and broke both his legs.
"Waking up after my first surgery, doctors were doubtful I'd ever be able to walk stairs ever again. My spirit was shattered like the bones in my legs," Calvin said. One of his legs had such severe nerve damage that he could not even lift it up. However, Jeanette was always by his side and had no doubt that he would make a full recovery. She supported him throughout everything and was by his side when he had to climb stairs. "Needless to say, stairs have a big metaphorical significance to our relationship," Calvin continued. "One step at a time."
Calvin was able to make a full recovery! In the years to come, Jeanette pursued her dream of architecture design and was tasked to create a staircase for a large company's New York headquarters. Calvin decided that this very staircase would be the perfect place to propose to the love of his life.
"To pull off the perfect surprise proposal, Calvin had some insider help at Jeanette's office [to] make the magic happen - she thought she was going to a potential client meeting that evening," photographer Christine Chen said. When Jeanette walked toward the staircase, she was surprised to see Calvin. He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and to his delight, she said yes. Everyone in the office cheered with excitement, then her family (who were hiding in a corner room) ran toward the happy couple, and they all celebrated the joyous occasion. See the beautiful moment unfold ahead!
