Here's What Will Happen to Your Music When Apple Terminates iTunes

The end of an era is officially upon us. During the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in California this week, Apple officially announced their plan to terminate iTunes on Mac devices with a replacement app simply titled Music. Described by Apple Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi as "the best music app we've ever made," the new app is set to be released when the newest macOS is released later this year in September, alongside iOS 13 and the new set of iPhones. Many dedicated iTunes users are wondering what will happen to their music after the application shuts down, but have no fear, because all your tunes are staying put!

All the music that you have purchased will still be available via the new Music app, and there, users will also be able to continue purchasing music, as well as stream music with an active Apple Music subscription. Federighi also shared during the conference that "users will have access to their entire music library, whether they downloaded the songs, purchased them, or ripped them from a CD," and added, "For those who like to own their music, the iTunes Music Store is just a click away."

To put it simply, iTunes users have nothing to worry about. And though the tech giant is set to phase out the iTunes application on Mac computers by the end of this year, the iTunes application isn't going away completely. Apple shared that the iTunes Store app will remain on iOS devices for users to purchase music, while the Windows version of the iTunes application will remain for the time being.

So, even when these changes take effect, you'll still have easy access to your entire music library and be able to continue building it.
