How to Help Your Daughter Buy Her First Bra
Buying a first bra is an emotional experience for both young girls and their mothers. As a lingerie specialist and founder of LingerTween, a company that specializes in age-appropriate undergarments, Kelly O'Brien has seen firsthand how trying and tear-filled the moment can be.
"Moms are on a journey too," O'Brien says. "Your little girl is growing up, and it's a big deal." But with this big moment comes a lot of big questions, like when, where, and what kind of bra to buy. Here, O'Brien shares her tips for making this mother-daughter shopping trip a successful one.
When to Get a Bra
There are two signs that your daughter is ready to tame her ta-tas, so to speak. First, she is physically ready, meaning her breasts have begun to "bud." While there is no specific age for budding, there are some symptoms such as sore nipples or actual bumps around the breast area. The second sign, O'Brien shares, is that your daughter is emotionally ready.
"Maybe she isn't keeping up physically with her peer group, but she's the only one without a bra," O'Brien says. Don't dismiss or make fun of her feelings. This will only embarrass your daughter and keep her from coming to you to talk when the physical time does arrive.
Where to Buy a Bra
Before you hit the mall, O'Brien says it's important to talk to your daughter about what she can expect so she won't feel overwhelmed when walking into the store. Let her know that someone will most likely measure her and that there will be a lot of options to choose from. As for which store to go to, O'Brien says it may be best to go somewhere small and local.
"Trying on your first bra in a big discount retail store can be unnerving for an 8- or 9-year-old," she says. "And with shops like Victoria's Secret, most parents don't feel comfortable taking their young daughters [there] to shop."
What Type of Bra to Buy
The bras your daughter buys will ultimately depend on how she looks and feels in them. But O'Brien has a few suggestions to help you steer her in the right direction. For girls who may not be budding just yet, she suggests a camisole or a sports bra.
"A short or full-length camisole provides a bit of coverage and isn't as noticeable under a blouse," she says. "For the same reason, some girls like to start with bras cut in a sporty style that don't feel like a traditional bra." If, however, your little girl wants to feel more like a little woman, O'Brien suggests opting for a bra with lining rather than padding. "[The lining]'s typically a thin layer of foam used to smooth over the nipple area so nothing is visible under the shirt," she says. "It's a modesty measure that also helps some girls feel less self-conscious."
No matter which style your daughter chooses, O'Brien says it is important to check the strap length. If the straps are too long or too short and unable to be adjusted, it can lead to an awkward fit. She also adds that moms (and even dads) need to remember that buying your daughter a bra is a part of her growing up, and it doesn't have to be a hellish experience.
"Keep it lighthearted," she says. "This is a rite of passage for everyone involved, and you can make it an experience that's fondly remembered decades later."
10 Super Quick Breakfasts You Can Whip Up at the Office
I get it - weekday breakfast is hard. On those days when you don't even have time to make quick breakfasts at home, you can still whip something up at work. As long as you can throw the ingredients in your bag, you're on your way to a no-stove-needed breakfast that can be made in your office, like avocado toast and microwaveable peanut butter oatmeal. You won't be greeted by your stomach grumbles 30 minutes after you scarfed down that granola bar.
17 Reasons My Daughter Was Late For School This Morning
I'm usually a stickler for arriving at school on time, if not a few minutes early. My 4.5-year-old daughter's preschool doesn't start until 9 a.m., and her younger brother usually wakes us before the sun's up, so seriously, it doesn't seem to be asking that much. Her teacher often sends email reminders to us moms that late arrivals disrupt the class and compromise their already painfully short schedule, but I know they aren't directed at me. Whether my punctuality is a genetic trait or a learned one, I'm not sure, but you'll rarely find me or my kids tardy . . . until today. Dear teacher, let me tell you a little about our morning to give you 17 reasons why.
- Drag daughter out of bed at 8 a.m. Apparently, a devilish combo of monsters and scorpions invaded her bedroom around 1 a.m., and she wanted her dad to investigate. At 5 a.m., they came back, hence the exhaustion.
- Daughter wants to dress Monster High, despite never seeing the show (thanks, YouTube). Her interpretation: a silver tank top and black skirt. It's two degrees outside.
- Daughter decides all of her pants feel "weird" because they have "lines." Requests that I find a pair of pants without a single seam, and no, tights and a skirt will not be acceptable.
- Daughter requests that I pick out three outfit options for her. Rejects them all. Three more? Those are "hideous," too. Eventually she pulls out a Target t-shirt and a pair of leggings she's had so long they've become capris. Past the point of caring, I tell her as long as she adds a cardigan, it's fine.
- It seems underwear feels weird, too. After trying four different pairs, she requests to "go commando," sparking a lengthy conversation about how few social situations are underwear-optional.
- Daughter tries on every single pair of her socks and decides she hates them all. Wants that one pair of Easter socks, size 12-24 months, that she wore yesterday. Can I just wash them now?
- Daughter discovers the manicure our babysitter gave her yesterday has a chip. Requests that I remove nail polish and repaint them all in a new color, right now.
- While I'm explaining to daughter why the manicure has to wait and why long sleeves and pants are essential during a Midwestern January, her little brother heads to her play kitchen and dumps the bucket of 200+ pieces of play food all over her room, then tries to eat them. I guess it's breakfast time.
- Daughter can't decide whether she wants Cheerios, a bagel, or waffles, so she decides that I should make her all three. Plus, she really wants an apple with peanut butter and ice cream. Her brother forages in the pantry for his own breakfast and comes out with a bag of flour. You can guess what happened next.
- I gave daughter the wrong sippy cup. I'm a monster.
- She wants a big girl glass of milk with a crazy straw. Two minutes later, spills glass of milk all over the floor.
- Daughter wants her hair in two pigtails . . . no, in one big ponytail . . . no, just a headband.
- Have to remind daughter for the 100th time that she's required to wear gym shoes to school, and no, those Wonder Woman boots don't count.
- Ten minutes later, still haven't decided on a pair of shoes.
- Halfway out the door and detect a weird smell. Yep, that's little brother's diaper.
- Halfway to school, realize forgot daughter's coat at home (she won't wear hers in the car). Debate whether it's worth turning around, but again, it's two degrees out. Back we go.
- Finally, arrive at school and yell at daughter that we have to hurry inside. "But first mom, let's tell some jokes." Honey, this whole morning feels like one big one!
Starbucks May Be Opening a Roastery in New York City
It's common knowledge that there's a Starbucks on almost every street corner in Manhattan, so how is it possible that the coffee chain has even bigger plans for the city? News outlets like Grub Street are reporting that Starbucks has begun searching for the perfect location to build a giant coffee center similar to Eataly, the mega Italian marketplace that's home to restaurants, food counters, and bakeries. But when we reached out to Starbucks, its spokesperson said that the news is purely "speculative" and that "Starbucks doesn't comment on rumors or speculation."
While the two may seem like drastically different concepts, Starbucks has already seen success with larger-scale projects like the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room in its hometown of Seattle. The Roastery offers specialty coffee and freshly roasted reserve coffees that are considered to be the cream of the crop. If these rumors are true, it could mean big things for the bustling New York City crowd.

Proof You Should Be REALLY Excited to Taste Starbucks's Official Valentine's Day Drinks
Chocolate-lovers everywhere rejoiced upon hearing the news of the new Starbucks Valentine's Day drinks, and we knew we wanted to taste them immediately. The Molten Chocolate Latte, Molten Chocolate Frappuccino, and Molten Hot Chocolate are like the mocha drinks you know and love . . . intensified.
The difference between the molten drinks and the regular chocolate drinks is in the preparation: the barista scoops chocolate chips into the cup before letting the espresso pour into it, melting and infusing with the chocolate, creating a rich syrup. As for the Frappuccino, this is a next-level version of the Java Chip Frappuccino - it's topped with espresso-infused whipped cream with an espresso mocha drizzle. "Chocolatey with a punch" is how one of our taste testers described these sweet drinks.
Needless to say, if the combination of coffee and chocolate is your favorite, you should definitely treat yourself to one (or all) of these limited-edition drinks the next time you make a Starbucks run - you have until Valentine's Day.

The Shocking Truth About Thread Count in Sheets
For years now, we've been conditioned to correlate a high thread count with high quality in bed sheets, but it turns out there are far more important quality metrics than thread count. In fact, sheets with a low thread count but high-quality fiber can actually be better than sheets with high thread count and low-quality fiber. To learn what we should really be paying attention to when shopping for sheets, we spoke to the experts at luxury bedding company CULTIVER.
Here are the five things they said to look at before purchasing:
Fiber
This is a great place to start your sheet search. Consider your personal preferences and climate, and shop for a fiber accordingly: for example, Egyptian cotton's acclaimed comfort is due to its long staple fiber. Longer fibers create silkier-feeling sheets. Breathable fibers, like cotton and Cultiver's signature linen bed sheets, are great in warm climates because they're breathable and moisture-wicking. For cool climates, a natural insulator like silk is a great option. Polyester blends are great for those on a budget because they're inexpensive and durable.
Weave
The weave, or the manner in which the threads are interlaced, determines the way the sheets feel and look. Weaves with an even amount of vertical and horizontal yarns, like those used in high-quality percale sheets, create crisp, durable sheets. By contrast, sateen weaves have more vertical than horizontal yarns, giving them a shiny look and silky feel, but making them more susceptible to wear. When a weave is low quality, the info is often omitted from the label altogether.
Location
You already know what type of fiber and weave you want - next, note where the sheets are made. Some countries, France and Italy in particular, are known for their sheet-making skills. Even if the fabric is coming from elsewhere, it's always a plus to have the sheets made by master craftspeople.
Dye
Inexpensive sheets apply color and patterns to the fabric after the sheets are already woven, which can make them stiff, especially initially. With time and washings, they'll usually soften up. Pricier, but much softer, sheets are made from yarn-dyed fabrics that have been woven with colored yarn.
Finish
Some sheets are treated to be wrinkle-free, nonshrinking, or extra shiny - but dangerous chemicals are often used to create these finishes. It's always a good idea to seek out pure and organic sheets. They're better for everyone's health and a must for those with sensitive skin or allergies.
See Every Rock-Star Beauty Moment From the 2015 Grammys Red Carpet
Sure, last year's SAG Awards and the Golden Globes had gorgeous beauty looks, but the style at the Grammy Awards blew us away! Musicians tend to bring the wildest, most jaw-dropping hair and makeup to the red carpet, and 2015 was no exception. To get amped for this year's show, look back at last year's extreme hair accessories, shockingly bright lipstick hues, and more!
Undercut Tattoos Are the Sneakiest Way to Add Flair to Your Hair
Hot on the heels of the underlights hair color trend (the perfect rainbow technique for conservative offices) is another sneaky style: undercut tattoos. The name of this look is somewhat misleading, as there's no ink involved, but it's definitely edgy!
To rock this look, you'll need to book a salon appointment for an undercut, during which the stylist will buzz off the lower level of your mane. This style should only be apparent once you put your hair up in a ponytail. Then, using a razor, the stylist can cut very precise designs into the short strands at the nape of your neck. The finished result is a secretly badass look - and unless you want to reveal it via an updo, no one but you will ever know that it's there.
That said, this is not a new trend. Women of color have been rocking it for decades! However, we love how rainbow dye has added extra pizzazz to this already-cool style. See the appeal when you read on.
The Past 100 Years of Egyptian Beauty Will Give You Major Brow Envy
If you thought the Kardashians were responsible for putting bold brows on the map, think again. In the latest installment of Cut Video's 100 Years of Beauty, Egyptian women demonstrate the power of thick, perfectly angled arches by rocking them throughout the last 10 decades of iconic looks.
The rest of the beauty styles dramatically change - women flash beautiful bare skin, then drape themselves in veils and headpieces. They play with deep-burgundy lipstick and fun hairstyles, like waves and tousled updos, from the 1930s through the early '70s. But while the various trends evolve with the times, majestic brows are a mainstay. Watch along for proof of the stunning natural beauty of Egyptian women . . . and prepare to feel some major brow envy.

How a Mom's Facebook Post Ruined a Man's Reputation For Life
These days it's hard to control how fast stories can spread across social media - especially those with misinformation. One father found this out after a viral Facebook post wrongly accused him of being a pedophile.
Recently, a man who wishes to remain anonymous took a selfie with a Darth Vader display at a Target in Australia; he and his kids love Star Wars. When he took the photo, he spoke to some children nearby and told them what he was doing, according to the Knox Leader. That's when the mother of the children saw the interaction, followed the man outside of the store, took a picture of him, and shared on Facebook what she thought had happened - a pedophile inappropriately speaking with her children and taking pictures.
The Facebook post called the man a "creep" and detailed the actions the mother took to protect her children, including alerting the police and security at the store. Until deletion, the story had been shared over 20,000 times. After being told by his friends about the post and photo, the man went to the police and cleared his name - but not before receiving death threats and dealing with repercussions that affected his family and children. The mother, who also wishes to remain anonymous, has since deleted the post and apologized, but is now receiving death threats herself for sparking a mob against the man.
"I think the biggest lesson out of it all is not to post anything that could hurt anybody on media," she told the Knox Leader. She's tried to get in contact with the man and does not know whether or not legal action will be pursued against her yet. "One thousand times over I wish I could take it back," she said.
While social media is a useful tool to spread information, especially about dangerous situations, this story is a reminder of just how powerful it is and how easily it can damage a person's reputation, whether or not the story is true. As the man in the photo said, "People need to get their information from proper news sources rather than rely on drama queens who share things without thought on Facebook."

This Is What Valentine's Day Cards Would Say If Parents Wrote Them
Valentine's Day changes after you get married and have children. What was once a flower-filled, champagne-sipping love fest turns into filling out tiny valentines for children you don't know and buying your own candy. It can be hard to celebrate your undying love for your spouse when you are so tired you can barely keep your eyes open due to chronic sleep deprivation. With that in mind, I would like to recommend a few greeting cards you can give to your significant other if you have been married a while and have young kids.
Hallmark, feel free to contact me if you would like to purchase any of these romantic, swoon-worthy lines for your giant corporation.
- I know it looks like I hate you, but I love you. Most of the time . . . I think. Happy Valentine's Day.
- Dear sweet yoga-pants-wearing Baby Mamma . . . I've got your lovin' right here! (Points to crotch) Happy Valentine's Day.
- Husband, oh husband. If you love me and want to show it, do the dishes without being asked, seriously. Happy Valentine's Day.
- I love you more today than I did yesterday, mostly because divorce is really expensive and dating seems like a lot of work. Happy Valentine's Day.
- How do I love thee . . . Let me count the ways: one sock NOT in the hamper, underwear on the floor, dishes on the counter, shoes in the hallways, and ah, yes, urine on the toilet seat. Happy Valentine's Day.
- Hey, Baby! Let's drop the kids off at the sitter and go home and nap like we are 5 again. You know you want to. Happy Valentine's Day.
- You had me when you whispered "Netflix." I love you, too. Happy Valentine's Day.
- Roses are red, violets are blue, it's your turn to change this diaper, or I swear there will be no lovin' for you. Happy Valentine's Day.
- Nothing says I love you like remembering to take out the trash. Happy Valentine's Day.
- If I had to do it all over again, I would. I would just do it with a condom - these kids are killing me. Happy Valentine's Day.
So if you want to make sure your spouse knows how you feel, send them one of these message on Valentine's Day. They will feel your love.

You'll Be Infuriated by the Way This First-Grade Teacher Dealt With a Struggling Student
We've seen a number of cases of harsh grading and inappropriate school assignments, but a video recently featured on The New York Times may be the most infuriating of all.
An assistant teacher at Success Academy charter school in Brooklyn, NY, was concerned about the way a teacher, Charlotte Dial, was treating her first graders and secretly recorded class time. When one young girl struggled to show her classmates how she solved a math problem, Ms. Dial rips her paper in half and commands her to go sit in the "calm-down chair." Then, in an angry, elevated tone, the teacher says, "There's nothing that infuriates me more than when you don't do what's on your paper. . . . Do not go back to your seat and show me one thing and then don't do it here. You're confusing everybody! Very upset and very disappointed."
The assistant teacher who recorded the video in Fall of 2014, left the school last November and shared the video with the paper. What's even more upsetting than the footage itself is the fact that not only did Ms. Dial return to the classroom after a week-and-a-half suspension, but she also maintained her role as an exemplary instructor and continues to train others. Academy leader Eva S. Moskowitz disregarded the video as a rarity while a group of parents even stood by their first grade teacher. Ms. Moskowitz claimed that because Ms. Dial "so desperately wants her kids to succeed and to fulfill their potential," what was shown was just a lapse and wasn't representative of the school.
With a reputation of high test scores, the school's harsh tactics to achieve academic success are not unusual according to current and former teachers. In fact, one former teacher and assistant principal resigned because of the awful treatment. "It's this culture of, 'If you've made them cry, you've succeeded in getting your point across,'" she told The New York Times. The article further reveals how humiliation of students and ripping up unsatisfactory work is condoned, according to other interviewed teachers.
The teacher was apparently given further training on emotion management and provided a statement through Success Academy: "I'm deeply committed to the children and families of our school, and I'm sorry for my lapse in emotional control 15 months ago. As I tell my scholars to do, I will learn from this mistake and be a better teacher for it."
The first grader's mother was upset with the school's decision to bring the teacher back but declined to provide any additional details.
Needless to say, we're speechless and enraged. Our children's academic success is equally as important as the learning experience itself, and under no circumstance should a student be demeaned in the process. Weigh in with your thoughts -how much is too much?

The Most Mind-Blowing School Dress Code Violation Yet
On a cold Michigan morning, Madyson Fields threw on a chunky infinity scarf, a flowy gray knit sweater, and cropped black pants.
The outfit, which might seem fashionable yet understated to some, is causing a major controversy after the eighth-grade student was told it that it was inappropriate to wear around male students.
"My daughter was told by a teacher at Marshall Public Schools that she was a distraction to the boys today," wrote Madyson's mom, Brooke Fields, according to the Battle Creek Enquirer. "My straight A student was called out in front of the class and told the boys were staring at her. If I wouldn't have been home, she would have had to sit in ISS (in school suspension) all day. This is wrong."
However, Marshall Middle School Principal David Turner said in an email that Fields's Facebook post was inaccurate and that the student would have been allowed to return to class after the discussion about her outfit. He says that Madyson was talked to in private at the teacher's desk and then sent to the school office to "have administration check that the clothing did not violate the dress code policy."
While her black bottoms could be mistaken as leggings from afar, Fields said that her daughter was wearing pants. Turner wrote that the staff recently talked to all students about the dress code and explained that "tights can be worn, but clothing must cover mid thigh, that she had been talked to before about dress code items, and that her clothing could be distracting to boys."
Fields took to Facebook a second time to defend her decision to share her daughter's story and stresses that she is not a helicopter parent. "I hold my daughter accountable for her actions, just as I expect others to be accountable for theirs. My intent was never to bring shame to Marshall, as I am a proud parent of a Marshall RedHawk," wrote Fields. "I saw a huge injustice done to my daughter and it wasn't the first time a comment of that sort had been made. I have taught her to work through adversity and follow the rules. If she breaks them, she deserves the punishment. I have also taught her to stand up for herself and others when there is a wrong."
Breaking the rules is one thing, but when are we going to stop blaming girls for boys' attention spans?

This Dad Just Experienced His Scariest Parenting Moment Ever Skiing With His Son
Ethan's Near Death ExperienceAll, I've decide to reactivate my Facebook page only to share with you "THE" most frightening experience I have had as a father, and the dangers of tree wells. What you're about to see is a very real threat and there are many who die each year. Fortunately I was there to pull my son out. Please, take the time to know the dangers around you. Most importantly, never ski alone.
Posted by Winston Goss on Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Winston Goss and son Ethan were skiing together when Winston faced his most frightening parenting moment ever: Ethan disappeared from view after a jump, and his screams - though muffled - could just be heard in the dead silence on the mountain. Winston managed to capture the entire near-death experience on video and posted it to Facebook to educate people about tree wells (the space under a tree around the trunk that's void of snow, but has high drifts around it) and the dangers skiers face every day because of them. Luckily for this father-son duo, because they were skiing together and Winston saw Ethan disappear, he was able to pull Ethan out of the snow that he was wedged in.
Watch the video to see Winston save the day in what could have been a truly tragic moment.

This Is the Ultimate Ode to Parenting
When the nights are endless and the mornings seem like a whirlwind of chaos, sometimes you feel like you're completely alone in the struggle. But as you power through the ups and downs of parenting, it's essential to keep in mind why you're doing what you're doing: for your child. This stunning poem, written by an unknown author and making the rounds on Facebook, eloquently makes sense of the mixed emotions that parenthood brings and puts them all into perspective. There will be a last time for every experience you share with your little one, so be sure to cherish them all!
The Last Time
From the moment you hold your baby in your arms,
You will never be the same.
You might long for the person you were before,
When you have freedom and time,
And nothing in particular to worry about. You will know tiredness like you never knew before,
And days will run into days that are exactly the same,
Full of feedings and burping,
Nappy changes and crying,
Whining and fighting,
Naps or a lack of naps,
It might seem like a never-ending cycle.But don't forget . . .
There is a last time for everything.
There will come a time when you will feed
Your baby for the very last time.
They will fall asleep on you after a long day
And it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child. One day you will carry them on your hip, then set them down,
And never pick them up that way again.
You will scrub their hair in the bath one night
And from that day on, they will want to bathe alone.
They will hold your hand to cross the road,
Then never reach for it again.
They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles,
And it will be the last night you ever wake to this. One afternoon you will sing "The Wheels on the Bus"
And do all the actions,
Then never sing them that song again.
They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate,
The next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone.
You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your last dirty face.
They will run to you with arms raised for the very last time. The thing is, you won't even know it's the last time
Until there are no more times.
And even then, it will take you a while to realize. So while you are living in these times,
Remember there are only so many of them
And when they are gone, you will yearn for just one more day of them.
For one last time.

This Son Spent a Year Throwing Eggs at His Mom, but It's Actually Hilarious
Hey Mum, CATCH!This guy spent over a year throwing eggs to his unsuspecting mum...
Posted by UNILAD on Thursday, February 11, 2016
One unsuspecting mother has had quite the stressful year due to her joker of a son who decided to spend a portion of every day throwing an egg at her. Sounds kind of harsh, but seriously, it's the most hilarious thing we've seen in a long time. While we do feel bad for her (and all of the eggs whose plans to become omelets were quite literally smashed in the making of this video), we can't stop laughing - mostly because all she can do in each clip is scream "NOOO" before it's too late.
Watch the video to see her son's hilarious antics - and her pretty impressing catching skills - for yourself.
