Gwyneth Paltrow's Latest Project? Oh, Just Upending the Beauty Industry

How do you thoroughly thrill a room full of New York editors on a snowy Friday morning? The answer: Gwyneth Paltrow, and smoothies.

GP herself was in New York Friday to unveil the latest undertaking from her lifestyle empire, goop. It's a range of all-natural beauty products, the latest endeavor to come from goop's partnership with Juice Beauty. The results are a perfect merging of goop's dual missions of focusing on both inner and outer beauty.

"The reason I wanted to create these products is for the vain part of me," Gwyneth said. "I wanted skincare products that really were effective and took care of hydration, fine lines, glow, and wrinkles. Even as somebody who's so engaged in the health and wellness community, I could not find products that were organic and that were offering me the same results with that really luxurious touch and feel."

The smoothies were a perfect segue way into the health-conscious and frankly wonderful world of goop. Gwyneth's team invited said editors to make "GP's Morning Smoothie," a concoction full of fruit, almond milk, and powders from the buzzy Los Angeles juice maker Moon Juice. As Gwyneth prepared her demo drink, we editors had a moment to notice her own glowing, tan, and lineless skin. Whatever she's doing, I want to do. (And the drink was actually pretty good.)

goop Beauty is based on an appreciation for healthy, organic ingredients. The team set out to fill what goop CEO Lisa Gersch called "white space" in the beauty market, by introducing an organic - but high end - product in the industry. Thirteen months later, Gwyneth is proud of what they've created.

"I do really believe that beauty comes from within," Gwyneth said. "How you feel about yourself and how you express your love of yourself, but also in the form of nutrition and taking care of yourself from the inside."

As a result, goop Beauty contains 99% certified organic materials as well as plant extracts from poet's daffodil, sweet iris, and more. Only food-grade - not chemical - preservatives were used.

Gwyneth put extra emphasis on ingredients, she said, because of the lack of government regulations on the US beauty industry. This is especially important to Gwyneth, since her 12-year-old daughter, Apple, is currently "is obsessed with makeup and body mist."

goop Beauty consists of six items: a face oil, an instant facial, a cleanser, moisturizer, night cream, and eye cream. The collection launched on Goop's site this week, and is available in-store at select retailers across the country. It's a system, Lisa said, that allows goop ultimate control, as they are solely in charge of production and distribution.

One product, in particular, has become something of a favorite for their creator. "I really am obsessed with the instant facial," she said. "You put it on and you feel it - it's very active. I've gotten into the habit of using that every night to really turn over skin cells, and bring hydration and a really nice glow."

And if everything goes as planned, many more women will soon reap the same benefits.

"The GOOP woman," goop CEO Lisa Gersch explained, "is someone who really cares about herself, her body, what she eats, and being healthy. She cares about discovery. She's very curious, and so a product that is healthy and delivers on that promise is something that she's going to love."

I suspect Gwyneth and Lisa are right. And if this brings me one step closer to a Gwyneth-level glow, I'm in too.

Sonia Kashuk's New Line Will Inspire You to Be a Beauty Knockout

Nothing makes our hearts (and bank accounts) happier than chic, high-performance beauty products that won't weigh heavy on our pockets. Of all the affordable, kitschy makeup and professional tools we look forward to every season, Sonia Kashuk remains among our favorites. The makeup artist delivers her eye-catching designs and expertise to Target with her coveted beauty collections, and she's bringing us another epic set of swag with her limited-edition Knock Out Beauty release.

Sonia collaborated with artist Dana Louise Kirkpatrick to create a line to empower women. The "knock out" theme was sparked when the girl boss fell in love with Dana's artwork at Art Basel in Miami. Her painting of a female fighter flashing her red boxing gloves immediately caught Sonia's eyes, and she purchased a piece of her work on the spot. It was then, and with some inspiration from her teenage daughter, that the vision for her new assortment was hatched.

We spoke to Sonia at the Knock Out Beauty launch event, where she told us that witnessing her daughter face challenges with societal beauty standards motivated her to create products that promote embracing and enhancing your natural beauty, instead of altering it. "I feel like the appreciation for what makes you unique has been lost, and when I saw Dana's fighter painting it really resonated with me. I wanted to create products that empower women and make them feel strong," she said.

The collection features a range of tools, lipsticks, eyeliners, and makeup totes. One of Sonia's favorites is the Skin Glow powder. "The powder is amazing because if you want to use it alone, you can. You don't have to feel pressured to contour and highlight your face. I think what's most important to me with these products is that you feel comfortable being real."

Every piece features encouraging mottos and designs by Dana to remind women of their power and strength with every use. Sonia's collection has sparked a social media movement, with celebrities like Cindy Crawford and Jen Atkin posting inspiring messages to social media in t-shirts featuring the artwork and the hashtag #KOBeauty. You can join the movement by snagging pieces from the line when it goes on sale Sunday, March 6. Read on to see which Knock Out products you'll be adding to your beauty shopping list.

Is This Beyoncé's Backstage Hair Beauty Secret?

It's been nearly a month since Beyoncé slayed us with her Super Bowl halftime show performance, but she's still managing to keep fans rapt with social media snaps from the big gig. This week, Queen Bey shared behind-the-scenes photos from her rehearsals with Coldplay and Bruno Mars, including adorable pictures of her 3-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy. She also gave us a glimpse of her backstage beauty routine, and one of the products she used while getting ready caught my eye (and brought back memories).

The puffy pink hat Beyoncé is wearing on her head in the photos is a heat cap and is commonly used by women of color - including my late grandmother - and women with curly, coarse, or low-porosity hair. It brings in direct heat to moisturize, condition, and stimulate your hair and scalp. Using a heat cap can actually improve the elasticity of your hair while also helping deep treatments better penetrate your follicles. It's likely that Beyoncé had applied a conditioner or cream to her scalp and was using the heat cap as a way to quickly dry it before she hit the field.

It doesn't come as a huge surprise that Beyoncé would use a heat cap - especially since her mom, Tina Knowles, was a hairstylist and salon owner when she was growing up - but her sharing photos of herself wearing it pairs pretty nicely with her "Formation" video in the way that it depicts the singer as being proud of her roots and the beauty customs she grew up with as a black woman. Not only do we now know that Beyoncé carries hot sauce in her bag, but she's got a heat cap on her head, too.

The Reason Behind Bobbi Kristina Brown's Sudden Death Has Been Revealed

Bobbi Kristina Brown would have turned 23 years old today, but the life of the only child of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown was cut short when she tragically passed away on July 26, 2015, under mysterious circumstances. Thanks to unsealed medical records, her cause of death has finally been uncovered: lobar pneumonia, caused by hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and water immersion combined with mixed drug intoxication, or in simpler terms, a mix of drugs and drowning. Bobbi was found face down in a bathtub in her home in January 2015, which led to her being placed in a coma for seven months until she was pronounced dead in July.

The drugs found in the late reality TV personality's body by the Fulton County medical examiner included "marijuana, alcohol, benzoylecgonine (a cocaine-related substance), benzodiazepines (medications used for sedation or to treat anxiety), and morphine." It was also noted that "it could not be determined from toxicology tests whether the morphine resulted from heroin use." Although this news will hopefully give her friends and family some closure, the medical examiner was unable to determine if her death was intentional or not, and so her cause of death will remain categorized as "undetermined."

How This Rutgers Student Used Social Media to Find a Lost Cat

Having a pet go missing is something no one ever wants to deal with. (Also, that's where microchips come in handy.) But sometimes even a microchip won't help and you need to lean on the people in your community. That's what one Rutgers University student did when a cat went missing - the student used Yik Yak to spread the word. After the initial post, more students spread the word about the missing cat, and before they knew it, cat and owner were reunited. Social media can be such a powerful thing! Kendall Jenner Is a Blonde and Gigi Hadid Is a Brunette at Paris Fashion Week

Remember when Kim Kardashian went blond (twice!) at Paris Fashion Week and nearly broke the Internet (both times!)? Well, it looks like her go-to designer Olivier Rousteing (aka the creative director of Balmain) has picked up that major hair-color changes create buzz.

And so, we have just discovered that top models such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Alessandra Ambrosio, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Devon Windsor have switched up their usual shades. Basically, it's opposites day and Kendall and Alessandra are blond, while Gigi, Rosie, and Devon are brunettes. We are loving seeing these gorgeous models with new looks - even though it's probably due to wigs and not dye. Watch this space as more photos and information become available.

These Men Wore a Strap to Feel Their Babies Move, but What Happened Next Will Bring You to Tears

Trop beau... Des chercheurs ont mis au point un capteur sensoriel pour que les papas puissent sentir leur bébé bouger <3 <3 <3Source/Huggies - Dia dos Pais Grávidos

Posted by Sacrée Maman on Saturday, February 27, 2016

There are a lot of disadvantages to being pregnant: we're chronically swollen, we can't eat Subway sandwiches, and we have to deal with random people commenting on the relative size of our stomachs to our bodies on a daily basis.

But (and this is a big "but"), we get to feel the baby kick.

It might feel weird, even slightly uncomfortable at times, but it's a pretty incredible moment that we get to sense that our partners just don't. Even when we quickly grab their hands and plant them right on our bellies, it's not the same. Usually they're just sitting there, palm pressed firmly against our skin, waiting around for nothing.

For doting dads, it's understandably disheartening. So when we discovered that a pair of belly sensor bands had been developed to allow men to feel the same exact sensations that a pregnant woman experiences when their unborn child moves, we wanted to line our husbands up to give it a whirl.

Unfortunately, the innovative technology was created solely as a proof-of-concept idea for an international Huggies commercial that aired a few years ago. It's not in production, but after watching this rereleased video of real expectant dads finally learning what it's like to feel their soon-to-be babies, you'll surely wish it were.

You're Not Going to Believe This New Mom's Luck When It Comes to Delivering Babies

One new mom has a very special leap day tradition - delivering baby girls!

After giving birth to her daughter Alyssa on leap day in 2008, the Minnesota mom welcomed her daughter Janessa four years later and just 10 hours before leap day 2012. This year, Meagan Erickson stuck to tradition and let her birthday girls know that they were headed to the hospital for another leap day baby.

"I spend leap days in the hospital having babies. Three leap days in a row now," Meagan said.

Now, Alyssa shares the special day with her youngest sister. Meagan and her husband, Chris, said they typically celebrate their daughters' birthdays on Feb. 28 and March 1 during non-leap years.

"It's definitely a topic of conversation," Meagan said. "We get a lot of questions like, how does it work? What's her real birthday? Well, it's 2/29, that's what her driver's license will say. That's what her birth certificate says, we just can't always celebrate it on that day."

The proud parents also have a son and feel that their family is complete after the addition of their latest leap day daughter.

"Father's Day seems to be a good day at home for us," Chris said of that holiday that falls roughly nine months before late February. "I never thought we'd have one, let alone two, almost three on the same day."

Food "Rules" According to a Toddler

Image Source: Flickr user David Goehring

Food - perhaps one of the touchiest subjects to the parent of a toddler. One day you kid loves all of the foods, one day they hate certain-shaped foods, and other days they just can't get on board with their plate color, which means the entire meal is ruined. It's an ongoing battle trying to get a toddler to eat regardless of whether they're picky or not - it's just one of those things . . . it's like they make their own rules.

Read through for the food rules - or ten commandments of food, if you will - according to a toddler.

  1. Thou shalt not cut my sandwich into triangles preemptively, even though that's how I always like it. You never know when I'm going to go rogue and want squares.
  2. Thou shalt not dare poke the straw into my juice box. If you do this, I will ask you to get me a fresh one so that I can do it myself, spill it everywhere, and cry about it.
  3. Thou shalt not let anything green touch my other food. I will make you cook me a new meal, and I will throw the green things onto the floor.
  4. Thou shalt not judge my food pairings, no matter how conventionally gross they are. If I want to dip my grapes in mustard, no sensible type of rationalization is going to change my mind. (And I will not tell you that you were right when I then spit the grapes out all over the clean kitchen floor.)
  5. Thou shalt provide me with a snack no matter what time it is, when I've last eaten, or where in the world we are. If you do not have the exact snack that I ask for, when I ask for it, there will be hell to pay in the form of a blood-curdling scream and an on-the-floor, limbs-flying tantrum.
  6. Thou shalt not attempt to hide vegetables inside bites of my macaroni and cheese. I will notice, and I will develop trust issues, thus refusing to eat another bite of anything you prepare for me.
  7. Thou shalt not develop a false sense of security by believing I'll continue to eat my favorite food from day to day. If today's the day I hate pizza - the meal I ate my tiny body's weight in last night - deal with it.
  8. Thou shalt not assume that just because I ask for my milk in the red cup, that I really mean the red cup. I might actually want it in the green cup, but I'm not actually paying attention to you. Basically, read my mind.
  9. Thou shalt accept the fact that if I see something slightly different from usual (read: wrong) with my food - i.e. a burnt corner of my grilled cheese - that the whole meal is ruined. There's no coming back from something like that.
  10. Thou shalt adhere to the binding contract set forward from my birth that any food that sits upon your plate actually belongs to me in every way, shape, and form. Even if it's the exact same meal. Oh, and it doesn't work the other way around, either - my plate is mine, too.

May the odds be ever in your favor (but probably not).

What You Never Knew About Procrastination and How to Cure It

Some people may wonder why procrastination advice seems to never work for them and if there is a deeper issue at hand. Well, for 20 percent of the population who are chronic procrastinators, it is a serious problem that needs to be addressed, according to Joseph Ferrari, a psychology professor at DePaul University and a leading expert in the study of procrastination. For those 20 percent, telling them to just "do it" is like "telling a clinically depressed person to cheer up," says Ferrari, author of the book Still Procrastinating?.

It's a serious problem if . . .

So how do you know if you're a chronic procrastinator? "You find that you procrastinate at home, at school, at work, in relationships. You don't pay your bills on time . . . You miss sporting events, concerts because you never got the ticket," says Ferrari. "You're late for any social gathering, you'll miss doctor's appointments because you're never there on time, the refrigerator is empty because you never restock it in time, food goes bad because you never eat it on time. If you do all those kind of things, you probably are a chronic procrastinator."

How people become chronic procrastinators:

There are several factors that can lead one to becoming a chronic procrastinator. Here are a couple of them, according to the procrastination expert:

  • Your dad: "It's typically cold, demanding stern fathers that cause boys and girls to be procrastinators," Ferrari says. Children with strict dads use procrastination as a way to cope because they can't rebel.
  • You care too much about what others think of you: Some people procrastinate because they care too much about public perception. The pressure to seem perfect is particularly strong for these people. The chronic procrastinators prefer people to see them as procrastinators that don't get around to doing tasks rather than simply being incompetent.
  • Society: We live in a world where society doesn't reward punctuality. Instead, we're penalized for being late, which doesn't give any of us incentive to complete tasks ahead of time. "We punish people if they file their taxes late. We give them a bill. If we pay off our credit card late, we charge them a late fee. But what if you pay your card on time and what if you've paid your mortgage off? There's no gift here."

The cure for procrastination:

For those who have deep-rooted issues with procrastination, it seems that cognitive behavioral therapy, a type of mental health counseling, is the most effective method. This kind of psychotherapy attempts to reroute inaccurate, harmful, or negative thoughts.

Ferrari suggests a couple more ways that might help chronic procrastinators:

  • Surround yourself with doers: It's healthy for a chronic procrastinator to surround herself with people who are likely to do things. It'll be a good influence on those with a tendency to delay tasks.
  • Just start somewhere: Just take a small step at a time. For example, if you're supposed to write an essay, start with a few paragraphs, and if that's too much for you, resolve to write just one. If that's still overwhelming, stick to a couple of sentences or even a few words.
  • Set up a reward system: "People like to do things they enjoy doing," says Ferrari. He recommends rewarding yourself with something you enjoy after you complete something that you've been dreading to do. For example, reward yourself with half an hour of Desperate Housewives after doing laundry.
  • Public posting: Because procrastinators care so much about how others view them, they are more likely to do tasks when they publicly announce it. Take to Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media outlet and state the task you're going to do. Then when you've completed it, let everyone know that you've done what you set out to do. The "likes" and congratulatory tweets will feel very satisfying.

So what if I am one?

If you feel like you fit the profile of a chronic procrastinator, you may think that it's not a big deal to be one. Your life might be functioning fine, and you've made it through many of the setbacks caused by your procrastination. However, keep in mind that it may catch up with you one day, and it can get to a point where it disrupts your life and negatively impacts other people's opinion of your character. Further, it's not exactly comfortable living as a chronic procrastinator. In fact, Ferrari found that procrastinators have more regrets than nonprocrastinators for things that they didn't do. "Stop stressing yourself over it. Life is short - leave a legacy," says Ferrari. "There are too many places to see and too many things to do in life to just procrastinate and wait and living in a bubble of fear of getting it done."

The Lazy Girl's Guide to a Clean Home

If you don't enjoy cleaning, tidying up your place may feel like a time-consuming and mind-numbing task. However, there are little tricks you can do to lessen your load and expend less effort but still have a sparkling-clean residence. Here are some ways to have a clean place without cleaning:

Everything has its place: Remember that each item has its place in your home, and if it doesn't, find a spot for it. Organize your things and make sure that every time you take something from its rightful place, you always return it to where it belongs when you're done using it. You'll prevent clutter from building.

Reduce your stuff: If you have fewer possessions, you'll have less clutter to deal with. Check out our recommendations of things you should throw away today. Be mindful when shopping, and don't buy things you don't need, even if you're tempted.

Take off your shoes: Taking off your shoes before going into your home may feel strange, but it actually helps minimize cleaning time. You won't have to vacuum up and mop away all the dirt and grime that you've been stepping on all day. It goes without saying that you should also clean your pets' paws before letting them enter your home.

Have a welcome mat: Get a welcome mat so people can wipe their shoes before entering. Even if they are planning on taking off their shoes before coming in, you'll have less to clean if everyone is wiping off their shoes before placing them in your entryway.

Don't leave your windows open for too long: When airing your room, make sure that you're not leaving your windows open for too long, or dust will start to collect.

Invest in a hand vacuum: This handy piece of equipment will help cut down on cleaning time. Have a few stray hairs lying around or spilled some glitter from your DIY project? Just suck them up with a hand vacuum, and the mess will be clean in a few seconds. The hand vacuum is an investment that will pay for itself over time.

Cover your furniture: You can protect your furniture with covers so that it'll be protected from any spills or dirt on your clothing. For example, find a nice waterproof tablecloth for your table or invest in a slipcover for your couch that will be easy to throw in the wash.

Buy disinfectant wipes: Buy some disinfectant wipes so you can quickly clean up spills or maintain the cleanliness of an area. Using these wipes won't feel like you're cleaning, because it takes minimal effort.

Eat in the rightful place: Don't eat snacks all around the house, or you'll find yourself with crumbs and smears on your bed, sofa, or floor. Eat your meal properly while sitting at a table. Don't try to multitask when you're eating, or you'll end up spilling on your clothes.

Carefully consider pets: Before you jump into a long-term commitment to a furry friend, make sure that you're accounting for all the messes you'll have to clean up. If you're not keen on continually vacuuming up fur, perhaps consider breeds that don't shed much or ones that are hairless. You could also opt for a lower-maintenance pet, such as a fish.

Split up chores: Dislike cleaning? Try to trade or split up chores with your roommate or partner. Perhaps you can do the cooking instead of washing the dishes, or grocery shopping instead of vacuuming. Offer to take up other household duties in exchange for getting off scot-free when it comes to cleaning obligations.

Do you have any other tricks that help lessen your cleaning time? Share them in the comments!

NASA Just Discovered 1 of the Biggest Black Holes Ever - See the Incredible GIFs

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope recently discovered one of the most massive black holes ever. Don't fret, though - it's nowhere near us so it won't be sucking you or me into its depths.

Located in Galaxy NGC 4889, which is around 300 million light years away, this black hole is 21 billion times larger than the sun. The black hole's event horizon, which the Hubble Space Telescope website defines as "the surface at which even light cannot escape its gravitational grasp," has a diameter of 130 billion kilometers.

Let's put those numbers into perspective, shall we? In our galaxy, the Milky Way's largest black hole is only 4 million times the mass of the sun, according to the Hubble Space Telescope website - meaning it doesn't come anywhere close to the one in Galaxy NGC 4889.

This black hole is also currently taking a pretty well-deserved nap. It's dormant as of now and it remains unclear when exactly it will come alive again. When it was active, an accretion disc constantly fed the black hole space items like gas and dust to give it immense energy. Yum.

Check out photos, GIFs, and videos of the black hole ahead. Take note these aren't exact photos of the black hole, since its event horizon prevents any light from escaping. These are, however, photos and videos that reveal the area in which the black hole lives. By observing how fast stars were moving (the velocity) in this area, astronomers were able to determine the very existence of the black hole. Get ready to be amazed and then check out equally incredible GIFs of Saturn and black holes merging.

Alessandra Ambrosio Just Went Blond For the Balmain Paris Fashion Show

Attention: Alessandra Ambrosio is a blonde. But of all the shocking transformations brought by this fashion show, Alessandra's was definetely the best.

After seeing pictures of the Brazilian supermodel walking in a gorgeous powdery pink long-sleeved bodysuit and sheer lacy pants, both filled with ruffles, we're convinced Alessandra needs to keep this new hair color, which we're hoping is not a wig. It takes just a quick comparison to the dark hairstyle she sported a few days ago at the Vanity Fair Oscars red carpet to see Alessandra looks shockingly different but just as incredibly beautiful. The Cast of Full House Gets the Christopher Nolan Treatment in This Dark, Gritty Cop Show Parody

Still riding the high of finding out that Fuller House was renewed for a second season? Well, so are John Stamos, Bob Saget, and Dave Coulier. The three men stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night to debut their "more updated, gritty Full House reboot," called Full House Nights. "The basic premise, Stephen, is that after the Tanner kids go to sleep, the Full House daddies go out on the mean streets of San Francisco, and we solve crimes," Stamos told the host. Luckily for everyone watching, the gang had a clip, which featured a hilarious cameo by Colbert as a Russian criminal. Watch the video above, and then check out the one hidden reference you probably missed in Fuller House!

Finally, You Can Use Different Reactions on Facebook

Your Facebook news feed is about to change - drastically. Facebook is rolling out "Reactions," five brand-new emoji to use instead of just the "like" button. It's an alternative to a "dislike" button that people have been wanting for years.

This includes a "Love," "Haha," "Wow," "Sad," and "Angry" emoji that will work across all types of Facebook posts, including pages and advertisements. To use it on mobile, the emoji will pop up as you hold down the "like" button, and on desktop, just hover your mouse over the "like" button.

To get these "reactions" on your phone, you need to update your current Facebook app to the latest version. Once you do, you will begin to see it on iOS, Android, and any mobile browser.

Watch a video of how it works below.

Though it's not a dislike button, it's pretty exciting to finally get a new way of reacting to posts. Zuckerberg echoed these sentiments in a Facebook post when the company was first testing the product. "Reactions gives you new ways to express love, awe, humor and sadness," he wrote. "It's not a dislike button, but it does give you the power to easily express sorrow and empathy - in addition to delight and warmth."

Keep reading to see photos of how it will look like on a variety of posts.
