You Don't Even Have to Be a Bride to Fall For Reformation's New Wedding Collection
If you're familiar with Reformation, than you probably know the cool-girl brand's subtly sexy wedding party dresses don't come with the ubiquitous "bridesmaids" look. They look more like beautiful, easy maxis you want to wear to a wedding, not the kind you get stuck wearing. The launch of its Fall '16 Bridal collection is much of the same, as in the same great, flowy dresses for your wedding party, as well as a small selection of wedding white slip dresses and floor-sweeping wrap dresses - even a two-piece jumpsuit - for the bride herself.
Truth is, any of the selection, which is the brand's biggest wedding lineup to date, would be fit for any number of occasions. So yes, if you're a bride looking to select dresses for your bridesmaids, this is undoubtedly the right place; but even if you have no wedding (yours or otherwise) on the calendar, you might just find a dress you love. And, dare we say, you'll likely wear it again - and again.

Here's How to Make Your Sluggish Workday Go (a Lot) Faster
How many times have you looked longingly out the window beside your office desk, wishing you were outside enjoying the fresh air - or taking a nap at home? We know you're raising your hand right now, and we understand 100 percent! Sometimes, the day feels like it's crawling by slower than a snail, and by the end of it, you're completely exhausted. Here's how to beat that workday rut and ensure that it flies by so quick, you won't know it hit you.
1. Find a job that you love or a project you enjoy within your current job.
Ideally, you want to seek a job that you'd look forward to every day - but all hope may not be lost for your current profession. "If finding a job you're passionate about is tough, then find a task or project area to become an expert in," recommends Jenn Dewall, a career and life coach for female professionals. "Find learning opportunities to enhance your understanding, set up touch-bases with people who know more, and practice it!"
2. Set up a snack drawer in your office.
Nothin' like a good old chocolate chip Clif Bar to boost your mood. "[Fill your drawer] with healthy snacks to keep your energy up and some of your favorite things you look forward to indulging in," suggests Hallie Crawford, career coach and founder of HallieCrawford.com.
3. Have a five-minute conversation with a co-worker.
Constant corporate jargon gets old, fast - and drags the day on. "We need to infuse fun into our workday, [because] it reduces stress and can increase team building," Dewall says. "Ask a question that is unrelated to work and start a conversation. In similar fashion, you can also pick a pop culture topic and talk about it for five minutes."
4. Take walks.
Don't be a bump on a log all day; get up and move! "Either walk during your lunch, or take short walks after accomplishing a bigger task," Dewall recommends. "Walking will give you energy and can also break up stressful work projects." Want to take it up a notch? "Schedule coffee walks with work colleagues so you can get some caffeine, fresh air, and positive conversation all at once," suggests Rebecca Dallek, a career and leadership coach for women.
5. Have a look at other businesses.
If you've got a little free time and you're feeling bored, "Research the competition," says Jill Jacinto, a millennial career expert for WORKS. It will give you a leg up on keeping your company sharp, and it may spark a few ideas. Plus, it's more interesting than repeatedly refreshing your email!
6. Work with people you like.
"This is critical to overall workplace enjoyment and to make each day fly by," Dallek says. Think about it. If you're sitting next to a co-worker who complains about everything from the temperature of his coffee to the new manager, your eyes are going to be glued to the clock.
7. Focus on your accomplishments, not your never-ending to-do list.
Don't allow your pending work tasks to submerge you in stress. "The more you focus on what has happened successfully during the course of your day, the faster it will go by, because you're less overwhelmed by the next thing on the list and enjoying a sense of accomplishment instead," Crawford says.
8. Jam to an inspiring song in between each task.
Whip out those headphones, stat. "Allow yourself to get lost in the music for a song, and once the song is completed, go back to work," Dewall recommends. "This is another mental break where the intention is to focus on how the song is making you feel - it's not just music to drown out your co-workers." She suggests starting out with coffee house favorites and then amping up to lively, high-energy music (think Carly Rae Jepsen) as the day comes to a close.
9. Buy fun office supplies and add items to your desk that make you smile.
Crawford suggests thinking along the lines of pictures of friends and family, colored folders, and supercute pens. "Keep things professional, of course, but if having fun stuff on your desk makes you smile, go for it," she says. "You can hide things when a client comes in if you need to."
10. Attend a presentation from your colleagues in a different department.
Jacinto recommends this, because seeing other departments in action provides a unique angle on your company and will maintain your focus. Better focus means faster workday!
11. Sit in another location.
If you have a flexible workplace design, this one is cake. "Sometimes a new location gives you a fresh perspective," Dallek says. And if your workspace isn't quite so accommodating or open? Simply transport your laptop to the kitchen for a half hour for a change of environment.
12. Set an end-of-the-week reward.
You already know how important work objectives are. "Each week, set up five goals that you want to accomplish and schedule time to work on them each day," Dewall suggests. "If you accomplish the goals and fill your day with productivity, reward yourself! This can enhance your confidence and give you a sense of accomplishment when you walk out the door on Friday." Not to mention, as you center yourself and work toward those goals throughout the week, the days will zip by. And in the end, that's what we all want.

The Surprising Things That Happen to Your Body When You Cut Sugar For 10 Days
If you need more convincing that refined sugars are wreaking havoc on your health, then look no further than this newest study, which shows that cutting added sugar for just a few days dramatically improves health.

The study, published in Obesity, followed 43 obese children with chronic metabolic conditions such as hypertension. The researchers changed their diets for nine days, substituting their normal snacks and drinks with ones that kept the calorie counts the same but restricted sugar - so instead of sugary yogurts, pastries, and cereals, the kids were fed hot dogs, bagels, fruit, and pizza. The results were "striking," says lead author and pediatric endocrinologist Robert Lustig, MD. Even though the children were eating the same amount of calories, just eliminating added sugar from their diets improved almost all areas of their metabolic health, such as lower blood pressure, LDL ("bad") cholesterol, blood sugar, and insulin levels, and improved liver function tests. Plus, even though the experiment was designed to maintain weight - the children were given more food whenever they started to lose weight - the kids told researchers that they felt fuller on the lower-sugar diet.
Lustig calls this finding "the strongest evidence to date that the negative effects of sugar are not because of calories or obesity." "This study definitively shows that sugar is metabolically harmful not because of its calories or its effects on weight; rather sugar is metabolically harmful because it's sugar," he says. The findings are also a clear indication that monitoring added sugars in your family's diet is extremely important for improving health and may affect how your body deals with cravings and satiety cues. Added sugars can show up as many different names on ingredient lists, so it pays to read nutrition labels and go for unprocessed foods whenever possible. Take it from Lustig, who explains that when it comes to what you put on your plate, a calorie is not just a calorie, and in fact, "sugar calories are the worst."

The Cool-Girl Designer Behind This Buzzy Swimwear Brand Is About to Spill All Her Styling Secrets
Since 2012, Gabby Sabharwal has led a double life - fashion publicist by day, designer by night - taking her own eco-conscious, cool-girl collection of suits from small, NYC-based label to reputable fashion favorite. The proof is in the pudding, or, in the style world, in the collaborators and retailers that have backed Gabby's Giejo label. So far this Summer alone, that includes a capsule collection for Madewell and a Gwyneth Paltrow endorsement in GOOP's shop, plus a collaboration with Rebecca Taylor last year and retail presence in the likes of Shopbop and Barneys. Did we mention that Gabby is barely 30 years old? Still, the young designer is practically an industry vet, and while her success grows, she remains humble and enthusiastic - as excited about her collection and the Giejo customer as she was when we first met. Four years later, that's what makes Gabby one of biggest girl crushes in the biz and a style setter we turn to on the regular for inspiration and advice.
With that in mind, we tapped the swimwear guru for the biggest trends of the season and how to get the most mileage out of the bathing suits you've got. Read on for all of Gabby's wisdom - and all the ways she's rocking her swimwear wardrobe right now.

25 Midnight-Blue Hair Ideas That Will Inspire Your Next Moody Look

And now, midnight-blue manes are inspiring us to take the plunge into rainbow hair. Depending on how a colorist translates the look into your strands, your strands can appear like anything from a stormy sea to a starry night sky.
The beauty of this color trend is that you can customize it to perfectly flatter your skin tone, though the more black that is in the mix, the more complementary it is to all complexions. Cool-skinned gals might want to add a bit more blue-based purple for a sultry indigo shade, while those with warmer complexions could add a bit of yellow-based green to suit their olive undertones. Learn more about your undertone here, then read on to see our favorite takes on midnight-blue hair.

James Rodriguez Shows Off His Sexy Muscles and Smirk in a New Calvin Klein Campaign
Soccer season might be done for Colombian footballer James Rodriguez, but the hunky athlete is far from resting. Joining the ranks of Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Kate Moss, and other soccer players like David Beckham, James can now add Calvin Klein model to his résumé.
In the new #MyCalvins Fall 2016 campaign, photographed by Tyrone Lebon and featuring Zoë Kravitz, Bella Hadid, and Margot Robbie being all sexy, too, James poses first in his CK jeans and white tank top next to the tagline, "I am a player in #mycalvins," giving the camera a moody and pouty look and showing off his full sleeve of tattoos. But it is the second photo of the campaign you must pay close attention to, because it features James's grin in all its glory - plus his chiseled abs - as he poses in black boxers.
The photos, taken before the soccer player opted to leave his natural dark hair behind in favor of a new platinum-blond look, solidifies James's spot as an international player and sets him up for more modeling gigs, following in the footsteps of his friend and teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Scroll ahead to check out more from the campaign, including a video of James talking about his first kiss.
TripAdvisor Is Launching an Airline Reviewing Platform That Will Change the Way You Travel
TripAdvisor just announced the launch of an airline reviews platform, and we predict it will totally change the way travelers book their flights. The site's base of 350 million users will now be able to review airlines. "Travelers now have a go-to resource for making more informed air travel decisions based not only on the price of the flight, but the total experience with the airline," the company explained.
The site will also now display a flyscore that gives a 1-10 out of 10 score for individual flights based on traveler reviews, the quality of the aircraft, in-flight amenities, and the duration of the itinerary. "The score helps travelers quickly scan for the best flight options before booking," TripAdvisor said.
Overall, TripAdvisor is helping to give customers more knowledge about their airline and flight options. They will even show more comprehensive information about in-flight amenities, like power ports and the type of in-flight WiFi that's available. There will be additional features added to the site's new service later in the year. We're excited to put this reviewing platform to good use!

Keep Your Kids Lice-Free With These Stylish Hairdo Ideas
The thought of their child coming home with lice has many parents immediately scratching their heads (and checking their kid!). But now, thanks to the new strain of super lice, these pesky bugs can be more problematic than ever before because some are more resistant to treatment.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 12 million heads of hair become infested with these unwanted guests. In order to prevent your child from bringing lice home, there are certain things you can do aside from having them avoid contact with an infected person or sharing belongings.
Some studies suggest that lice are more common in girls than boys, perhaps due to more frequent contact or longer hair. For both boys and girls, using gel or hairspray creates a protective layer that makes it harder for the lice to cling onto the hair. For children with longer hair, it's important to tie their hair back in braids, a bun, or a ponytail to make it harder for the pests to grab on to the strands and make their way to the scalp.
Get inspired by these creative 'dos to that will keep the lice away - in style!

21 Modern Mysteries You Won't Be Able to Put Down
It all began with an early obsession with Nancy Drew, then I moved on to Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie, and before I knew it I was devouring any book that promised thrills, intrigue, and murder. Is there a detective in it? I'll read it. Bonus points if the protagonist is a woman. And the cherry on top is if the author is British or Scandinavian (or Irish). That said, Gone Girl is one of my favorite books of all time, so if you feel the same, you'll probably love my other picks. Obviously, this isn't an exhaustive list - I've only included books I can vouch for (aka that I've read) - but here are 21 modern mysteries guaranteed to keep you up all night, in order of tame to terrifying.

10 Makeup Mistakes You Need to Stop Making at the Office
At the workplace, beauty gals face a tough challenge: expressing their individuality (and love of makeup!) while looking professional and sophisticated. Just like the outfit you wear to the office, the choices you make with your beauty routine can dramatically affect your colleagues' perspective of you.
In fact, it's the sad truth that your appearance could make you appear less competent. It was recently confirmed in a study that women who don't wear makeup make less money than those who do, and we predict that shoddy cosmetic application can also result in the same wage gap. So rather than let a fun hobby affect our salary, we consulted a pro for advice. Jerry Johnson, global makeup artist for Laura Mercier, schooled us on the biggest office beauty mistakes to ensure our makeup always looks polished and professional in the workplace.
- Not seeking out the best lighting in the office. If you put makeup on at work, this tip is essential. There's a good chance that you have fluorescent lightbulbs throughout your office. If that's the case, you already know that they're not particularly flattering and can make you look sickly.
"Fluorescent lighting can be terrible for makeup application," confirmed Johnson, who advised you head to the ladies' room for touch-ups instead of sticking at your desk. "Many office bathrooms have windows with natural light, or even just better lighting than the office." This will prevent you from overapplying foundation, blush, or bronzer to counteract the washed-out effects of the fluorescent bulbs.
If your bathroom's lighting is just as bleak, seek out a window elsewhere. Sun on a cloudy day is still an improvement over crummy indoor lighting!
- Using too much metallic formulas in your routine. "Just say no to shimmer!" Johnson declared. "When you wear shimmer and sparkle makeup, it reads like you're going out for the evening." If you opt to add a bit of luminosity to your appearance, focus on a bit of glimmer in your blush or strobing with a very light hand to give your complexion a healthy glow. Double-check your face in the office lighting to make sure you don't look too Vegas-ready overt - above all, you want to look like a professional at work, not a party girl.
- Not rocking a power lip for presentations. Even if a bold pout isn't usually in your beauty wheelhouse, consider it if you'll have a starring role at your next meeting. "When speaking in front of a crowd, you want people to pay attention to you and what you're saying," Johnson pointed out. "A bright shade draws attention and your colleagues will be more apt to listen to you." Try a confident, tomato-red shade like Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colour in Foreplay ($28).
- Wearing too much foundation. "Stick to a natural, reasonable amount of coverage," Johnson suggested. Excess cream foundation and setting powder can look especially heavy and chalky under fluorescent lights. Instead, try just covering dark circles, blemishes, and other imperfections with concealer, then evening out your skin tone with a sheer foundation or tinted moisturizer.
- Checking yourself out too frequently. Unless you're a fellow beauty editor, your boss probably won't appreciate if you test out your most recent lipstick purchases or dust on bronzer on company time - especially at your desk. Restrict your touch-ups to the ladies' room and save them for moments that matter, like before a meeting or happy hour.
- Forgetting to fill in your brows. By simply defining your arches, you'll look more groomed, polished, and professional. "I've seen many women put on an entire face of makeup and then forget about the eyebrows!" Johnson lamented. "Your eyebrows shape your face."
The finished result of a filled brow is also supersubtle, so those who don't want to wear a full face of makeup or work in environments that frown on cosmetics should definitely try it out. Lightly sketch in the sparse parts of your brows and improve their shape using a pencil like Laura Mercier Eyebrow Pencil ($24). Be wary of making them look too heavy; you don't want your new office nickname to be "Groucho Marx." Learn how to pick the right shade for your arches here, then master how to fill them in.
- Slicking on lip gloss. "Leave the shiny glosses for a night on the town," Johnson advised. Lacquered lips can look overly youthful or too casual, so opt for matte-, cream-, or balm-textured formulas instead. Consider stashing one of these innovative pout formulas in your bag.
- Aggressively contouring. "We all know that contouring is super popular, but be sure to do a soft contour," Johnson warned. He recommended sculpting with a product that is only one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone. "It doesn't matter if you use a cream or powder," he said, "just as long as it's not harsh looking!" Learn how to properly contour here (and save the aggressive cheekbone-carving for the 'gram).
- Skipping blush. "Many women think that if they contour, they won't need blush," Johnson shared. "This is such a huge mistake! Blush brings color into your face." And a little rouge can quickly counteract a sallow-looking complexion under fluorescent lights. Not sure which shade is best for your skin tone? Once you figure out your undertone (warm, cool, or neutral), you'll be better prepared to shop!
- Going through your entire beauty routine at your desk. Let us be clear: intermittent lipstick applications and dabs of powder are fine, but doing your whole 20-step regimen at your computer is not. "There's no need to overdo it! Just bring the necessities - lipstick, pressed powder, and mascara," Johnson pleaded. If you'd rather wear more makeup to work, apply it before you get to the office. You may have to set an earlier alarm (and forgo hitting snooze), but losing that extra 15 minutes is worth gaining a boost in professionalism.

3 Solid Minutes of Ridiculous Things Only Parents Say
Remember that Sh*t Girls Say meme that took YouTube by storm back in 2011? The one that inspired a host of other parody videos exploring social and gender stereotypes? Well, one demographic was somehow left untouched, and now, four years later, we can finally hear all of the sh*t, er poo-poo, that parents say.
Thanks to funny guys Tripp and Tyler (who were also behind one of our favorites, Sh*t Nobody Says), we have three solid minutes of all the priceless, ridiculous, hilarious things only moms and dads say to their kids. Some of our favorites:
"Don't make me count to three!"
"Do you have to tinkle?"
"Uh uh, that is a nice chair!"
"How do you know you don't like it?"
"What did I just say?!"
Are you ready to watch? OK, on the count of three: "1 . . . 2 . . . 2 and three-quarters . . . "
Michael B. Jordan on Police Brutality: "It Could Have Easily Been Myself"
In response to the tragic reports of police brutality this week, Michael B. Jordan took to Instagram on Friday evening to pen a powerful essay about the heartbreaking shootings. Michael - who famously played police brutality victim Oscar Grant III in 2013's Fruitvale Station - spoke out about the matter and emphasized that the news of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile's deaths "hits close to home" because "it could have easily been myself, my little brother, my dad, one of my friends, or any of us."
"I've been trying to process all that has occurred in the last few days and I'm still looking for the words to express my pain. The fact is Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were not unfortunate accidents. These are just a few of the countless incidents of violent neglect, poor training and lack of accountability that clearly illustrate one thing: Black people are being disproportionally dehumanized and murdered, this must stop!
I care about the safety of my black brothers and sisters and my blue ones too. There are no adequate words for the fallen officers in Dallas. From the bottom of my heart, I thank them for protecting the peaceful protestors, their courage and effort to support us is what we need more of.
This hits close to home. It could have easily been myself, my little brother, my dad, one of my friends, or any of us. When one of us is murdered because a police officer is "afraid for their life", it pains us - we feel it. In the wake of these senseless murders, our homes are forever broken; families are left to figure it out. I'm concerned about my mother, my sister, and all my magical black women that are left to pick up the pieces. Often they are not acknowledged or thanked for being on the front line fighting these battles for and with us, but know your continued strength, courage, and unwavering love and support gives us the strength to keep fighting. Finding solutions in these times of survival are seemingly hard to identify but we must continue to keep moving forward. Alternatively, violence is not the answer; it only begets more fear and violence. This is the time to unify; our communities, our churches and our homes. My mission is to channel my anger and energy - along with my love and hope for the future into actively finding solutions. Change will take all of us, we can no longer say or do . . . Nothing. 'Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.' -MLK"
Michael hasn't been the only star to speak out about the issue. Check out more statements from Beyoncé, John Legend, Kim Kardashian, and Barack Obama.
11 Love Tattoos in Spanish You're Going to Want to Get

But because we know you're looking for ink that'll be special and unique to you, we scoured Instagram to put together a list of photos featuring some of the most inspiring and empowering tattoos on love you'll ever see. The best part: they all nicely combine your connection to the Spanish language with your adoration for your significant other!
The Surprising Treatment That Cures Swollen, Itchy Mosquito Bites
Not too long ago, my boyfriend and I went to the Dominican Republic to visit his family. I was prepared for the humidity, the fast-paced Spanish, and the endless servings of plantains, but I wasn't ready for the hordes of mosquitoes. "They bite foreigners more than natives," my boyfriend warned, and he was right. After just one evening (despite sleeping under a netted canopy!), my legs were covered in huge, blotchy marks that were nearly impossible to resist itching.
After seeing all my bites, my boyfriend's mother passed me a tub of Vicks VapoRub ($5), swearing it would cure them. I was pretty apprehensive. I seem to be particularly sensitive to mosquitoes, because each of my bites turns into a quarter-sized welt that mars my skin for over a week. But I tried out the remedy on a few spots, mostly out of respect to my potential mother-in-law. To my great surprise, not only was the itching quickly soothed, but each bump faded in a few short days! Turns out the product is used for many ailments in DR, including headaches, fevers, toenail fungus, and more. (It reminded me a lot of Windex in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.)
According to NYC dermatologist Dr. Neal Schultz, host of DermTV.com and creator of BeautyRx by Dr. Schultz, there's some solid science behind this homeopathic remedy. "Three of the ingredients (menthol, camphor, and thymol) are topical analgesics," he explained. "They create a cooling sensation and stop the itching."
The VapoRub was also responsible for flatting each bite, thanks to the formula's nutmeg oil. This essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties, as well as pain-relieving and redness-reducing benefits. (That's why it makes such a good at-home acne treatment.) Finally, the cedarleaf oil in Vicks acts as a natural mosquito repellent! Sometimes moms really do know best - I'll never go on another tropical vacation without stashing a jar in my suitcase.

To celebrate 50 years of Slurpee!9 Ways to Take Fancy Fitness Classes For Virtually Nothing
It wasn't until I ditched my gym and quit running that I fully embraced my love of fitness. Before discovering intimate studio classes, exercise was forced agony, but these days you'll happily find me at SoulCycle, BurnSF, and my favorite local yoga studios. And despite how expensive boutique fitness can be, I've managed not to run up a huge credit card bill, in large part because I am thrifty - some friends may even call me cheap. Because of this, I've found some ways to save big time on what could be a pretty hefty financial commitment.

- Get connected on social: Grab your phone and start following the social media accounts of every studio you love. Besides getting a behind-the-scenes look at life there, you're privy to special deals and events. Fitness studios know that their followers on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram are loyalists, so it's a place where they'll share the love. I recently got a free SoulCycle class for wearing blue and yellow workout gear (Go Warriors!), based on a tip that my local studio shared on its Facebook account.
- Look for community classes: Whether it's a way to say thank you to the local 'hood or a way to introduce a new teacher, many studios (most often yoga) offer free community classes. Check a studio's weekly schedule to see when these pop up.
- Join a fitness class subscription service: If you're open to variety, think about joining a studio membership service like ClassPass or FitReserve, where you pay a flat monthly fee and get access to hundreds of local studios. Depending on the type of membership, you could be taking studio classes for as little as $10. Given that many of the classes offered on these services have drop-in rates of $30, you'll be getting a tremendous savings.
- Sign up for email: Yes, email can be annoying, but anyone who shops sales can tell you that newsletters are essential. Just as retail brands do, studios send out emails that often contain discounts, upcoming sales, or daily deals. I recently was able to buy a five-pack of yoga classes at my favorite studio for $50 thanks to a flash sale I learned about via email - that came out to be a 50 percent savings!
- Become a member: If you find that you're falling for a specific studio, stop the pay-as-you-go madness and pony up for a membership. The cost may seem steep at first, but you will save money in the long run. As an example, The Bar Method San Francisco charges $185 for a monthly membership, and its drop-in rate is $28. If you take more than six classes a month, you're much better off becoming a member. You'll also find that studios tend to offer a discounted rate for new clients. The same Bar Method offers a "New Client Intro Rate" of $99 for the first month of membership.
- Buy in bulk: Along the same lines of getting a membership, consider buying bundled class packs from your favorite studios. They usually end up giving you a 5- to 20-percent savings and often don't expire.
- Scan daily deals sites: Sites like Groupon, Living Social, and Gilt City are great resources for finding discounts at boutique fitness studios. You'll most often find discounted monthly memberships or bundled class packs here. Savings can run upwards of 30 percent.
- Check a studio's website: Fitness studios that are less connected on social media still tend to offer deals but will do so on their website. Peruse your favorite studios' sites often and always check out a studio's page before you go for the first time. Many offer students their first class as a freebie if you register online with them.
- Make friends with everyone who works there: Don't force it or fake a relationship, but you'll be surprised how far friendliness can get you. Studios love their regulars and smiling faces! Very often they'll gift you with a free class as a way to let you know how much you're appreciated.

Beyoncé and Jay Z Have the Most Fun Cheering On Pal Serena Williams at Wimbledon
The women's final of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships drew in thousands of fans, but Beyoncé and Jay Z might have had the most fun out of all of them. On Saturday, the couple showed their support for pal Serena Williams - who famously made a cameo in Beyoncé's Lemonade - from the stands at London's All England Lawn Tennis Club. Clad in matching white ensembles, the duo cheered Serena on from her box as they attentively watched her win her 22nd Grand Slam title.
Beyoncé is currently in Europe for her Formation world tour and earlier this week, the singer posted a powerful, moving statement in response to the recent tragic reports of police brutality. Along with her response, she also paid tribute to the victims who've lost their lives to police brutality during her show on Thursday night by projecting their names on a giant onstage screen as she sang "Freedom" a cappella. See more of Beyoncé and Jay Z's outing below; then check out her most inspiring quotes.
6 Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water
Water is the most essential nutrient for life. So, why are we always forgetting about it? New studies reveal that what you drink is as important for your health as what you eat, even though most people don't pay much attention to the calories they're slurping down. And this may turn out to be a costly move - consuming too many calories from beverages may increase your risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and weight gain, according to the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Check out these startling statistics from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES): beverages with added sweeteners - think soda, gourmet coffee drinks, and many alcoholic beverages - now account for half of all the added sugar in a typical diet. The average adult drinks 20 percent of her calories - significantly more than the recommended limit of up to 10-15 percent of total calories. That amounts to about 200-250 calories daily for most women.
But, fortunately there's some good news: turns out, we're skipping sugary sodas more than ever these days, while sales of bottled water have more than doubled (since 2000). In fact, water is on pace to become the top-selling beverage. That's encouraging, but we're still gulping down plenty of other sweetened drinks, including iced coffee and tea, energy drinks, and flavored waters. Here are six great reasons to make H20 your bevy of choice.
You'll Slash Your Sugar Intake
About half of all the sugars in our diet come from sugar-sweetened beverages like soda, energy drinks, sweet tea, and coffee drinks, according to the most recent national nutrition data from the NHANES. Replacing just one 12-ounce (140-calorie) soda with water each day is one of the healthiest swaps you can make - and it would cut more than 65 cups of sugar from your diet in a year. Now that's sweet!
You'll Sip Yourself Slim
Several well-designed studies indicate that a "water diet" is effective for weight loss. People who drink more water (and fewer calorie-containing beverages) have lower-calorie diets. Opting for water in place of a 150-calorie beverage each day would help you shave 1,000 calories per week, which adds up to a loss of about a pound per month. It's not just about replacing a calorie-containing beverage with a calorie-free sip. Drinking more water may also help you eat less. One study found that dieters who drank 16 ounces of water before their meals lost about five pounds more over 12 weeks than dieters who didn't sip before eating. Make sure you drink water for at least half of all your daily beverages (five or more servings) to limit liquid calories.
It Will Up Your Game
Water is the ultimate performance-enhancer. In fact, the ingredient in sports drinks that has the biggest effect on your workout is water - H2O helps regulate your core temperature and maintain blood volume. Without adequate water, your muscles will fatigue, your heart rate will increase, and your performance will suffer. To get the most out of your workouts, be sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercise. (If you're exercising for more than 90 minutes continuously, the carbohydrates and electrolytes in sports drinks are recommended.)
Your Overall Diet Will Improve
Experts don't know why healthier beverage choices translate to healthier food choices, but research does show that the connection exists. A recent study of more than 18,000 US adults found that drinking more water not only reduced calories, but it was also associated with a lower intake of total fat, saturated fat, sugar, sodium, and cholesterol.
You Skin Will Appear Healthier
Your skin is your largest organ, and it's made up of 72 percent water. So it's probably no surprise to hear that hydration is essential to keeping it healthy. While drinking more water won't erase wrinkles, being well hydrated may improve your skin's appearance. Even slight dehydration can make your skin appear dry and dull, and it will make wrinkles more prominent.
You'll Cut Your Risk for Diabetes and Heart Disease
Reams of research show conclusively that sugar-sweetened beverages boost your risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease. In one study, women who drank more than one sugar-sweetened beverage had an 83 percent increase in the risk for type 2 diabetes compared to women who drank the fewest sweetened beverages. Other studies reveal a link between sugary drinks and hypertension, high triglycerides, and inflammation associated with heart disease. Cheers to better health!
