Skip the Crunches: This Trainer Has a Way More Effective Exercise For You

We get it - you hate crunches. But as it turns out, you might be onto something; they might not be the most effective use of your gym time. Trainer and owner of LEKfit Lauren Kleban told us that crunches are totally overrated, and she has a supereffective alternative for you to do instead.

"Planks are safer and way more effective than crunches," Lauren said. "They work the entire core, engaging your legs, arms, and bum (via the glutes), which means you can burn more calories!"

That all sounds great, but why are crunches not as good? She explained that crunches only work two muscle groups - the obliques and the rectus abdominis ("your six-pack!"). They also put you at more risk for injury in your back or neck "from holding your head incorrectly in a crunch."

So crunches aren't bad for you - especially if you're doing them correctly - but to Lauren's point, if you want to make the most of your time, try planks instead. You'll work more muscle groups and burn more calories. You don't have to tell us twice! With that in mind, we'll be taking up this plank challenge . . . care to join us? You can also try our favorite crunchless ab workout, this on-the-floor, no-crunch ab workout, or a medicine-ball move.

This Special Ed Teacher Includes Her Entire Class in Her Wedding Party

When Kinsey French got engaged, her students at Louisville's Christian Academy were by her side – her now-husband proposed in the school's gym. So, when it came to her wedding day this past June, she made sure to share the experience with her class of six very special kids.

French, a special education teacher, works in a program designed for children with Down syndrome. They're in a regular classroom environment for most of the day but also receive speech and occupational therapy.

"They were like family to me," French told Kentucky's WLKY News. "They were my first class and they've been my only class and so I knew I couldn't have a special day without them."

Although the kids took part in pre-ceremony photos – beautifully documented by Lang Thomas photography – and walked down the aisle, their favorite part was, of course, the dancing. They particularly loved doing the "dab" and the "whip and nae-nae."

"It was so exciting," French said. "It was really special for Josh and myself just to have them a part of the day, and have them come with us and celebrate with us."

Read on, and try to keep a dry eye as you watch this incredibly special day unfold.

Walgreens's New Rewards Program Is a Blessing For Drugstore Beauty Lovers

As a beauty fanatic, it's hard to pass a drugstore without stopping in. You tell yourself that you'll just be a few seconds - and that you'll only get the bare necessities - but then you leave half an hour later with a basket full of mascaras, nail polishes, and lipsticks. And sure, they were all affordable, but after going HAM, it still stings to see the combined total of your haul printed on the receipt.

By now, you know it's essential to be a member of any and all drugstores' loyalty programs. Walgreens has always offered points through its Balance Rewards system, but the company now offers an all-new program exclusively for beauty addicts. Completely free to join, Beauty Enthusiast functions as an extension of Balance Rewards but provides exclusive benefits when you buy makeup, hair products, skin care, grooming items, and even oral care.

Once you spend $50 on beauty-related purchases (which is admittedly embarrassingly easy), you'll receive 5,000 points. Considering that members immediately receive a one-time-use digital coupon for 20 times everyday points on beauty, you'll achieve that goal even faster. 5,000 points gets you five dollars free to use anywhere at Walgreens (including on more makeup). You can also get exclusive promotions, samplings, and product recommendations.

Even if you may not be able to resist the siren song of the drugstore beauty aisle, you now have a reason to just embrace your weakness in the face of a good deal.

11 Times Alexis Bledel as Rory Gilmore Was All of Us Having a Bad Day

There's not one character American-Argentinean actress Alexis Bledel can play that we won't like - yes, we even liked her as a needy/weird housewife on Mad Men - but her portrayal of Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls will always have a special spot in our hearts. When we needed advice on love, we went to Rory and Lorelai, and when no one understood our coffee addiction, the Gilmore girls certainly did. Even now, 16 years after its premiere and nine years after its finale, Rory is still just like us on our best and definitely our worst days. While you wait for the Netflix reboot to premiere on Nov. 25, see all the times the bookworm was us on a day we woke up feeling grumpy, then remember the glorious day the entire cast reunited.

This Dad's Genius Hack to Keep His Triplets From Fighting in the Car Is Going Viral

Every mom and dad loves a good parenting hack, but one could argue that parents of multiples need hacks more than the rest of us - they're outnumbered, it's math. Jake White, father of triplets, was working on a one to three ratio with his two sons and daughter, when he got sick of them fighting in the backseat. His solution? DIY car seat dividers.

A photo of his genius triplet hack was posted to Facebook and has since gone viral to the sound of a slow clap from parents everywhere. "But they all look annoyed," one person commented. Jake's response? "I can't hear annoyed."

Touché, Jake. Touché.

Paris Fashion Week's Front Row Was Full of Icons, It Girls, and Today's Top Models

Paris may be known as the City of Light, full of spectacular sights and historical landmarks. But during the city's Fashion Week, all of that tends to take a back seat. Stars settle into the front row at runway shows, viewing designs from the likes of Chanel, Miu Miu, and Balmain, quickly adding each stunning piece to top of their future shopping lists.

This time around, models took a break, checking out what was coming down the catwalk rather than walking on it, while Kim Kardashian and her family had their fair share of daring looks. You also saw plenty of influencers and icons sitting pretty front and center, as ladies like Olivia Palermo and Diane Kruger broke out their Fashion Week best once again. Scroll through to see which stars really enjoyed themselves in ol' Paree, then check out all the amazing street style, which is a show in itself.

NYX Cosmetics Is Releasing an Eye Shadow Vault - and It's Seriously Affordable

Though the L'Oréal-owned company NYX Cosmetics can now be found in drugstore aisles nationwide, the brand's latest release is paying tribute to its beginnings in Los Angeles, where NYX is headquartered to this day. Said release, however, isn't confined to just one mere product. Instead, NYX is honoring Los Angeles with an eye shadow vault complete with 12 different shades, all named after famous areas including Beverly Hills, the Valley, and Malibu.

The collection's shadows range from laid-back and subtle to vibrant and electric, much like the cities they're inspired by. West Hollywood, for example, is a nearly neon pink while Santa Monica is a sandy beige. The entire vault is priced at $25, making it one of the most affordable sets of its kind. Sadly, it will only be available for a limited time, so make sure to scoop one up when it launches later this week on Ulta Beauty.

Look ahead for pictures of the entire Cali-inspired collection.

We Got the New Flavors of Halo Top's Healthy Ice Cream (Spoiler Alert: the Cookie Dough Is Insane)

The second batch of Halo Top flavors has debuted, and when the frosty shipment came to the POPSUGAR offices, we collectively lost our s***. Seeing as how the first time we tried Halo Top's original flavors we ended up with best taste test results ever, we've been craving this healthy ice cream ever since.

A quick refresher: Halo Top is high protein, low calorie, low carb, and low sugar. Not that we'd ever encourage you to polish off a pint solo, but if you accidentally happened to do so, it wouldn't be the worst thing to ever happen to you.

The new flavors we sampled were chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate almond crunch, salted caramel, pistachio, black cherry, peanut butter cup, red velvet, s'mores, and oatmeal cookie. They've also launched cookies n' cream, but that flavor was so good it just happened to uh . . . mysteriously disappear . . .

Here's what went down with the flavors, in our editors' own words, from "pretty good" to "HOLY S***."

Black Cherry

  • "Tastes like fake sugar."
  • "A bit fake tasting."
  • "Tastes like fake cherry candy."

Chocolate Almond Crunch

  • "Too much almond." (this was said about four times)
  • "Marzipany"
  • "I actually really like the amaretto flavor . . . tastes like amaretto hot chocolate, but frozen."
  • "I like this but it maybe needs more chocolate."

Sea Salt Caramel

  • "Not enough sea salt."
  • "Kinda tastes like diet ice cream."
  • "Too sweet, missing the salt"
  • "Don't taste the sea salt, but still good."

S'mores

  • "I don't even know what this tastes like but I love it."
  • "Why do I taste coffee?"
  • "Doesn't really taste like s'mores."
  • "Pass."
  • "Almost caramel in flavor, no hint of marshmallow."

Peanut Butter Cup

  • "I like it but I don't love it."
  • "Good PB flavor, but it's like a fro-yo that's trying to be an ice cream. Trying really hard."
  • "Needs more peanut butter cup."
  • "Eeeeh . . . this ain't cuttin' it."
  • "Tastes good, but where are the actual peanut butter cups?"
  • "Like the ribbons of peanut butter."

Pistachio

  • "Tastes like marzipan."
  • "YUM. Sweet but tasty."
  • "Very creamy, sweet . . . weird aftertaste."
  • "Very sweet and smooth, but lack of flavor notes (vanilla-like)."
  • "Meh."
  • "I like the pistachio flavor but there's a fake sweetness to it, much like my ex BF."
  • "Yes! Not too sweet and doesn't taste too healthy."

Red Velvet

  • "My favorite. Creamy and yummy."
  • "Love the chocolate pieces."
  • "Pretty good, especially for 360 calories a pint!"
  • "Like the chunks of chocolate."

Oatmeal Cookie

  • "Favorite! I love the real oats; nice texture and flavor."
  • "Has the oatmeal texture."
  • "Most on-point, flavor-wise. Has a good balance of sugar, flavor, and cream."
  • "Like if oatmeal cookies and ice cream had a delicious baby."
  • "YES! Not too sweet."

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

  • "This is DELICIOUS."
  • "HOLY S***."
  • "FAVORITE OF ALL HALO FLAVORS."
  • "This one is so so so so good!!!"
  • "SO yummy!!!"
  • "The best of the bunch!"

This Cop Failed to Recognize the Danger in Leaving Her Toddler in a Hot Patrol Car For 4 Hours

Many children who perish in hot cars were left because they were completely forgotten, but some infants and toddlers remain in their parent's vehicles on purpose, because their moms and dads fail to recognize the danger.

When Police Officer Cassie Barker visited a fellow cop at his home after they completed working night-duty together, she left her 3-year-old daughter in the patrol car with the engine running. Hours later, when Mississippi authorities discovered the toddler in the unattended car, young Chyenne Hyer was unresponsive.

The child was rushed to Hancock Medical Center as CPR was performed but was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Police estimate that the little girl was left for up to four hours, and even though the air conditioner was on when they arrived, they believe the toddler died from the heat. As investigators wait for autopsy results, Cassie and her friend, Sgt. Clark Ladner, have been placed on administrative leave with pay.

"Somebody is going to be accountable for the baby's death," Hancock County Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan said. "There isn't a reason so far that has happened that would indicate that Cassie wouldn't be held accountable in some way under the guidelines of Mississippi's criminal code. But it's our responsibility to look at all the information."

14 Facts You Didn't Know About Beauty Entrepreneur Huda Kattan

After reading beauty entrepreneur Huda Kattan's interview in Harper's Bazaar Arabia, we're even more obsessed with her than ever. As the cover star for the magazine's October 2016 issue, the makeup-artist-and-blogger-turned-business-owner spoke candidly about her life, discussing everything from her professional aspirations and facial fillers to religion and miscarriage.

Whether you are a devoted follower of her Instagram feed or have just become a fan through her lust-worthy longwear liquid lipsticks, read on. In addition to some stunning photographs from the spread, we've distilled 14 interesting facts from her profile that you likely didn't know. We're positive that you'll be absolutely inspired by her success (we were!). Then visit Harper's Bazaar Arabia to read the interview in full.

  1. Huda was born in the United States. Despite her enormous presence in the Middle East, she is from Tennessee by way of Oklahoma. She moved to Dubai in 2008.
  2. Being the family "ugly duckling" made Huda obsessed with beauty. Her baby sister Mona was always considered the "pageant princess" of the family, while their mother told Huda that she was "not the cutest." While she appreciates the honesty now, she considers this to be the reason she has always been so fascinated by beauty.
  3. Michael Jackson's death triggered her to start her beauty industry career. Until that moment in 2009, she had been working in finance. Huda was inspired by Jackson's passion for his work - and how he changed the world - she moved on to become a makeup artist and blogger.
  4. She started her brand in 2012 with her sisters' help. Alya and Mona Kattan joined Huda's start-up and helped her achieve her vision, which was first to create and distribute false eyelashes at Sephora in The Dubai Mall. This goal was reached in early 2013.
  5. Her brand came to Sephora in the United States in 2015. The company now carries Huda's lashes, lip pencils, and liquid lipsticks.
  6. Huda rarely shares sponsored posts on Instagram. She only posted two last year, explaining that "you don't make as much money, but long term you can make substantially more money because ultimately people will trust you."
  7. The makeup maven garners six-figure fees for personal appearances. She uses this money to fund her "out of control" Net-a-Porter habit.
  8. She wants to be the Mark Zuckerberg or Oprah of the beauty industry. "I promise I'm going to own the beauty world," Huda insisted. "My vision is that the beauty world will never be the same because of Huda Beauty."
  9. Huda finds it hard to strike the perfect work-life balance. The entrepreneur has a 5-year-old daughter (Nour) and feels intense remorse when she's not with her. "I grew up with my mom being at home, so I always feel this sense of guilt. Every single day my daughter's like, 'Please stay home today,' and it's really hard."
  10. She rejects comparisons of the Kattan sisters to the Kardashians. Huda believes that the way Kim flaunted her nudity on the cover of Paper was "basically objectifying women." "Maybe the sex thing gets you closer to fame faster," she remarked, "but this is not a sprint for me."
  11. She's gotten work done, and she isn't ashamed to admit it. Two years ago, Huda visited Dr. Marc Mani at the American British Surgical & Medical Centre in Dubai and underwent a very subtle nose job. "It was shortened a bit, my nose was twisted on the end and he did get rid of my hump, it's the Arab hump," she said of her plastic surgery. She also freely admitted to getting Botox and fillers in Los Angeles but looks to vitamins and red-light therapy for noninvasive antiaging results.
  12. Huda is a practicing Muslim. Though she faces judgment from fans for her decision to not cover, or wear hijab, she prays five times daily and hasn't missed a single prayer since she started in 2003.
  13. Her inspiration is Sheikh Mohammed. "He's a boss," Huda said of the vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates. "What he's done to Dubai is what I want to do to beauty."
  14. Cyberbullies don't scare her. "I might cry myself to sleep behind closed doors, but nobody is going to know," she said fiercely. "You are not going to make me stop blogging, you are not going to make me stop working hard. Nothing is going to stop me from doing that."

8 Major Things You Can Expect to See in Fifty Shades Darker

It's been more than a year since Fifty Shades of Grey hit theaters, leaving a massive hole in our lives because we didn't get to see Christian Grey chase after Anastasia Steele after she shouted "No!" before those elevator doors closed. And with less than a year until the franchise's second installment, Fifty Shades Darker, comes out, that satisfying feeling of seeing Jamie Dornan on the big screen again is getting closer by the day. While the first movie just scratched the surface of the complex emotions behind Christian's beautiful eyes (and controlling behavior), Darker will give new meaning to the phrase, "What the actual f*ck." We've already seen a handful of steamy set photos and a trailer, but just in case you need more to satisfy your "non-vanilla" craving until then, here are eight major things that you expect to see in Darker next February.

1. Ana and Christian's lives fall apart without each other. While the end of Fifty Shades of Grey left fans (who didn't read the books) with a little bit of hope that Christian might stop the elevator and make things right again, that's not at all what happens. Ana and Christian don't speak for days after she leaves, which causes both of their lives to slightly unravel. Ana starts her new job as a personal assistant to Jack Hyde, a big-time book publisher, but her grief causes her to stop eating, lose weight, and not properly function in everyday life.

2. They then get back together. After Ana and Christian both attend a photo gallery exhibit for her friend José (the one that has a massive crush on her), they kiss in an alleyway and pick up right where they left off.

3. Christian screws with Ana's career. Throughout their romance, Ana insists that she wants to make her own way in the publishing word without relying on Christian or his money. So when he buys the company that she currently works for because he doesn't trust Jack (he also freezes the company's accounts so Ana and Jack can't go on a business trip together), Ana is furious.

4. Christian's instincts about Jack turn out to be spot on. It becomes very clear very quickly that Jack is an inappropriate and dangerous boss. In addition to continuously asking Ana out for after-work drinks and making her uncomfortable by invading her personal space, he also ends up cornering her in their office one night to try and blackmail her. He presents her with her personal emails with Christian that she sent on her work computer and threatens to expose her if she doesn't give him sexual favors. He then assaults her before she manages to escape. Christian has him fired and confiscates his work computer.

5. We finally meet "Mrs. Robinson." Elena Lincoln, who will be played by Kim Basinger, comes face to face with Ana when they all attend a masquerade ball at the Grey's house together. When Elena finally realizes that Christian is in love with Ana and doesn't see her as just a submissive, she becomes short with Ana and tries to sabotage their romance out of jealousy.

6. A dangerous stalker is thrown into the mix. While Jack presents his own problems for Ana, it's one of Christian's former submissives, Leila Williams (played by Bella Heathcote), that really takes things up a notch in Darker. After Leila's boyfriend dies in a car crash, she has a mental breakdown and becomes obsessed with Ana and her former relationship with Christian. She begins to stalk Ana and eventually breaks into her apartment and threatens her at gunpoint. Christian shows up and talks her down, but the whole situation has Ana worried that Christian won't be satisfied with their "vanilla" relationship.

7. Christian proposes to Ana. When Christian fears Ana may be leaving him again, he quickly proposes to her. She says she needs time to think about it and he leaves on a business trip in his helicopter, Charlie Tango. The helicopter then disappears from radar and Christian is missing for several hours, but when he returns to his apartment safely, he tells his family that both the helicopter's engines failed and he thinks someone was trying to kill him. Because Ana thought he had died, she realizes she wants to be with him forever and accepts his proposal.

8. Jack Hyde is not done. After Ana accepts Christian's proposal, his family throws him a party for his 28th birthday at their home. Jack, however, is watching the entire thing from outside, and in addition to revealing he sabotaged the helicopter, he also swears revenge on Christian because they are connected in more ways than one.

Daniel Radcliffe Just Shared His Thoughts on Donald Trump and Voldemort

Back in December 2015, J.K. Rowling compared Donald Trump to Voldemort - if you can even call it a comparison. Rowling tweeted that not even Voldemort was as terrible as Donald Trump in response to Trump suggesting that Muslims be banned from entering the US. Now, another former cast member from Harry Potter has joined her in that sentiment - Daniel Radcliffe.

During an interview with Sky News, Radcliffe was asked about the tweet the Rowling sent out. Radcliffe shared that he didn't think Donald Trump was as "ideologically pure as Voldemort." He went on and said, "My thing on Trump is that he feels like more of an opportunist - like I don't know how much of this stuff he's saying he actually, really, really believes." You can watch the short segment below.

There you have it; yet another celebrity weighs i on Donald Trump and the person he is.

I Added This to My Smoothies and It Helped Me Lose Weight

When I started making smoothies instead of eating an enormous bowl of cereal for breakfast, it was the change I needed to start losing weight. But one ingredient in particular was the real game changer.

Liquid meals can feel less filling than you need them to be. In order to make a liquid meal that keeps hunger at bay for hours, you need to add fiber. I started adding one tablespoon of flaxmeal to my blender. With just 37 calories, it adds two grams of fiber and three grams of filling fat. What is so great about flaxmeal is that when it gets wet, it expands, which makes your belly feel more full and makes it take longer to digest.

Once I started adding this one simple ingredient, I didn't feel hungry until lunchtime, when normally I'd need to reach for a mid-morning snack. Skipping those 150 calories every day started to add up, and suddenly the scale started to budge. This would probably work with chia seeds, too. Try it tomorrow when you make your morning smoothie and see what a difference it makes.

I Added This to My Smoothies and It Helped Me Lose Weight

When I started making smoothies instead of eating an enormous bowl of cereal for breakfast, it was the change I needed to start losing weight. But one ingredient in particular was the real game changer.

Create Your Own Halloween "Masks" Using Makeup You Already Own

For some of us, Halloween is more of a hassle than anything. (Not for me - just saying.) Finding a costume can be daunting, especially when it requires picking up a dozen items from various stores. For anyone who doesn't relish putting together the perfect ensemble, I have something that might excite you: it's called an eyeliner mask, and it's really easy to create.

These masks require makeup that you probably have at home, focusing on your trusty liquid eyeliner. You can create a full-on mask, covering your entire face, or just focus on the eyes, like I did. But the point is that these webby looks took me less than five minutes to perfect, and I didn't have to buy anything to pull it off, either!

MAC Cosmetics Celebrates Diwali With Its Newest Colorful Launch

This holiday season, MAC Cosmetics is spotlighting an important celebration with a brand-new collection.

Diwali Light Festival, available now online, pays tribute to the five-day Hindu event via an edited selection of eye makeup essentials. Diwali is a happy holiday that marks the new year for many, as well as the triumph of good (light) over evil (darkness). For this occasion, fireworks are set off around the world to brighten the evening skies, people buy each other gifts, and some create rangoli, colorful decorative patterns often made on floors with rice, flour, sand, or flower petals.

The star of MAC's Diwali assortment seems to take a cue from the vibrancy of rangoli. The nine-pan, limited-edition eye shadow palette is packed with vibrant hues of gold, red, green, and blue. You can also snag eyeliners and brushes.

This year's festivities begin Sunday, Oct. 30, so read on to see and shop the collection. You can buy it as an awesome Diwali gift for a friend . . . or just keep everything for yourself.

  3. But, the camera is insanely good: The Pixel has the highest camera rating from DxOMark, at 89. The iPhone 7 comes in at 86. It also has "zero shutter lag," so you can take photos as soon as the moment is happening.

The Numbers Are in and This Is the Least You'll Weigh All Year

Winter is coming and so are the carbohydrate-loading holidays, but you'll actually weigh less than you have all year during the first weeks in October. According to a recent study by a Cornell University professor, you may see a drop in numbers on the scale, but it's not going to last very long thanks to our delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. "Anything that happens in these next 10 weeks, on average, takes about five months to come off," Professor Brian Wansink said.

The study began in August 2012 and measured weight loss and gain among adults in the United States, Japan, and Germany over the course of a year. While the results were different in the three countries, one thing remained the same - "waistlines tended to grow in the 10 or so days leading up to the holidays." This shouldn't be much of a surprise after those extra drinks at the office holiday party and those incredible pumpkin desserts, but there are ways to avoid falling victim to holiday weight gain.

"Instead of trying to come up with a New Year's resolution to lose weight, it's a whole lot better to maybe have an Oct. 1 resolution to gain less in the first place," Professor Wansink said, adding that it does help to step on the scale during the holiday season to monitor your weight. We suggest these 20-minute workouts to combat holiday weight gain, and of course, portion control for the heavy meals.

One Is Not Amused: A Guide to the Queen's Many Faces

Queen Elizabeth II is a shining example of British decorum, but she can't always hold that megawatt smile on her face. In fact, one of the queen's more dour-faced moments sparked a royal meme during the 2012 Olympics. With that in mind, we decided to round up the best of the queen's many facial expressions and help decode them for the common folk. Sure, the queen may not look completely regal all the time, but surely we can cut one a break?

An Eye-Opening Video Captures 1 Second From Each Day of This Preemie's First Year

When Lillian was born six weeks early, her family hoped for the best, but also mentally prepared for the worst.

While doctors reassured her worried parents that their tiny fighter would be okay, her dad, Brad Mitchell, didn't take any second with Lillian for granted. Despite her initial stay at the hospital, he decided to record videos each day that he and his wife had with their cherished baby, even as it became clearer that the days would turn into years.

"As the days went on, we kept recording, and we decided that no matter how things went, we wanted to be sure we had full documentation of her first year that we could look back on and enjoy, and maybe even one day share with her," Brad told Today.

After her first birthday, Brad compiled the video showing one second from each day of her first year. The video, called "365 Days in 365 Seconds," showcases her amazing transformation from her at the hospital to being surrounded by love on her first birthday. "As you look back, only 30 seconds of the video is being stuck in that hospital, and at the time, it felt just like an eternity," Brad said. "But now that we look back we see hundreds and hundreds of other seconds that followed, it just kind of washes that away."

Queen Letizia Wears the Only Coat You'll Want and Need This Fall

We're so happy Fall is here, not because we love the crisp weather or pumpkin spice lattes (though, we do), but because we love seeing stylish stars like Queen Letizia of Spain unearth their best coats from the backs of their closets.

To attend an event in Lugo, Spain, the royal sported her favorite flared Massimo Duti white pants with a pair of Magrit beige strappy pumps. But our eyes were laser focus on her incredible one-button beige cape coat - a favorite silhouette she has sported before. The wide sleeves and fit of the jacket were just relaxed enough for the queen's busy day kicking off the year at a high school, while highlighting her petite figure. Scroll ahead for more photos of her look and to find a few jacket options to add to your own collection.

Chanel's '90s-Inspired Runway Beauty Is Straight Out of Saved by the Bell

Chanel's Spring 2017 Paris Fashion Week show was a time warp, proving that '80s and '90s beauty trends are making a comeback. Instead of the grunge looks we've been seeing at past shows, the pros at Chanel showcased brighter looks of these decades - specifically hot pink blush, vibrant charm hair ties, and neon baseball caps. The show had a digital influence, which feels futuristic (with robot heads!) and also included throwback fads.

When it came to makeup, we learned that contouring, bronzer, and strobing are taking a backseat. We predicted this would be the case when we discovered the "baby face" look last Spring. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux accented the models' cheekbones with pink blush that extended up to the eyelids. This old-school blush technique of using pigment to accent features is called draping. In addition to Chanel, Marc Jacobs Beauty is deeming it the next major style. It reminded us of Madonna's "Material Girl" days or Cher's girlie makeup from Clueless.

When it came to hair, stylist Sam McKnight gave the girls low side ponytails, secured with bright elastics adorned with Chanel charms. Electric-hued baseball caps worn sideways completed the '90s hair look. For those who grew up in the decade, it brought up nostalgia for watching Saved by the Bell, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Clarissa Explains It All on TV (where characters wore similar styles).

In general, Spring beauty is looking optimistic and upbeat! Keep reading to see more images from the Chanel show.

A Stranger Didn't Just Shame This Mom For Her Toddler's Pacifier - She Took It From His Mouth

When Corissa Rieschieck's son was having a meltdown while they were grocery shopping, this mom quickly solved the problem the same way many parents do - she put a pacifier in his mouth. However, one stranger didn't approve of Corissa's parenting and took physical action to let her opinion be known.

According to Corissa, the woman approached 2-year-old Gizmo before "promptly plucking the [pacifier] out of the gremlin's unsuspecting mouth while scolding me about how he doesn't need it and I shouldn't be so bad a parent as to give it to him."

The stranger walked off, and her unwelcome actions took both Corissa and her child by such surprise that it left them both speechless.

Despite leaving with the toddler's pacifier, the stranger later returned to give it back - and further criticize Corissa's parenting.

"This time it was along the lines of 'What kind of parent did I think I was to be using a dummy?' and 'I should know better, it's no wonder he screams,'" Corissa wrote in a blog post.

What bothers me most about this entire situation is not actually that yet another person had the nerve to question my parenting. Being entirely unsure of myself in this aspect of my life, I frequently do just that anyway. No. What bothers me most of all is that the absolute shock of that situation stunned me into silence. What bothers me is that a complete stranger actually had the nerve to get so close to my son as to take something from him without any care for getting my permission . . . That anger at myself for not responding, for being so shocked by the situation that I didn't tell that woman to go f*ck herself still sits inside me to this day, months later. Though it generally no longer spills out as a rage of vile cursing that I can't control. Instead, it comes out in this form - a blog post about the situation itself (with perhaps just a hint of that vile cursing). Most of all though, it comes out as questions. Why do people feel the need to comment on the way those around them parent? Do they not remember how hard being a parent is? Have they never experienced moments of doing something as a parent just to get through? Or, if they're not parents themselves, did they never learn that it wasn't okay to be so rude?

How to Give Up Dairy When Cheese Is Your Everything

If you're giving up dairy because you're lactose intolerant in a major way, have decided to go Paleo, want to get rid of your bloated belly or acne, or are doing it for the animals, it's not easy, especially if you consider cheese to be its own food group. With these tips, you'll be able to stop eating dairy and actually feel happy about it.

Discover Amazing Alternatives

The plant-based food world is exploding right now, so there are dairy alternatives to just about everything you could think of. Here are some recommendations:

  • Milk: Take your pick between soy, almond, coconut, cashew, and blends of each. The one that most closely resembles cow's milk is soy milk and new plant milks made with pea protein such as Ripple. These companies also make coffee creamers.
  • Butter: This is an easy one as Earth Balance and Smart Balance both make tubs and sticks of dairy-free butter you can use on toast, to bake cookies, melt on popcorn, or make frosting. I'm a fan of the ones made with olive oil.
  • Yogurt: If this is your go-to breakfast or snack, try ones made by Silk, Daiya, or So Delicious.
  • Ice cream: Trader Joe's makes one of the best dairy-free ice creams I've ever tasted - try the Soy Creamy in Vanilla or Cherry Chocolate Chip. If you're avoiding soy, Ben and Jerry's makes four amazing chunk-filled ice creams made with almond milk. Some other noteworthy brands are So Delicious (amazing cashew milk ice cream), and DF Mavens.
  • Cheese: This is a toughie, as I have yet to find cheese alternatives that taste as good as the real thing. But, I've found a few brands that are pretty good. Follow Your Heart Mozzarella Shreds and Shredded Parmesan are always in my fridge for homemade pizza. For cream cheese, I'm a fan of the Trader Joe's plain version - I stir in some maple syrup and cinnamon for a sweeter flavor. For savory cream cheese that tastes great on crackers, Treeline Herb-Garlic Soft Cheese made from cashews is outstanding. If you crave American cheese, Go Veggie is not too shabby.
  • Condiments: Obsessed with ranch dressing? Daiya ranch dressing fooled my husband - it's that good.
  • Chocolate: Most dark chocolate is dairy-free, just double check the labels. Look for bars made by Endangered Species, Green & Black's, and Newman's Own. For baking, go for Enjoy Life or Trader Joes' Semi-Sweet chocolate chips. Craving M&Ms? Order some No Whey Choco No-No's.

Get Creative in the Kitchen

Sometimes you need to take matters into your own dairy-free hands and make the recipes you crave:

Find Something Even Better

If you have certain go-to meals like Greek yogurt for breakfast or Friday pizza night, find recipes that are even tastier. Try this chocolate coconut almond overnight oats recipes or a creamy high-protein smoothie. Cook up some chickpea coconut curry or bite into savory roasted sweet potato and black bean burritos. Discover foods you really look forward to, so you don't miss the old ones.

Avoid Temptations

Don't go to the same old places that serve your favorite non-dairy dishes. You'll just be reminded of the chocolate peanut butter pie you can't have and will either have a supersad meal or give in and order a slice. Explore new restaurants - Chinese and Mexican are good options - or try a new vegan restaurant.

Ease Into It

Ditching dairy completely and going cold turkey is a pretty daunting task. So if your health allows for it, try slowly transitioning your diet, and you might not be so depressed about it. Maybe start with one meal a day or by ditching one food like milk.

Remember Why You're Doing It

Keeping a higher purpose in mind can be all the motivation you need to stop eating dairy. If you know you'll be stuck in the bathroom for half an hour just because you put a pat of butter on your bread, then you'll probably think twice before grabbing that butter knife. If you're eating Paleo because you want to gain muscle, getting support from your swolemates (and recipe ideas) can make all the difference. And if you're doing it for health reasons or animal welfare, just keep a powerful image in your mind that will stop your hand from reaching for that piece of cheese. Be confident in your decision and know that the benefits will soon follow.

American Horror Story Has Been Renewed For Season 7!

Several weeks into American Horror Story: Roanoke, FX has announced it's renewing Ryan Murphy's scary series for a seventh season. "The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style.
