Shh! 5 Websites to Start Your Secret Santa Gift Exchange

Too soon? Never! Secret Santa is arguably one of the best holiday traditions, but if your friends aren't meeting in advance to pick a name out of a hat, get help from a tool that promises to keep the names a secret. Here are the best ones on the web.

  • Elfster will organize your party and gift exchange. As the organizer you set up the exchange, input money limits, sign up and exchange dates, and create an invite to send to guests. Once they accept and all guests are accounted for, Elfster "draws" names and then emails your guests letting them know who they need to shop for.
  • Secret Santa Random Name Generator selects names for a Secret Santa group and automatically sends participants an email. All you need to share are email addresses, the number of presents for each participant, and names of the participants.
  • Sneaky Santa delivers more than a cute name. The site lets you virtually draw names for your group, set up gift rules, and send an anonymous message to the participants. The design is a little old school, but you can customize your site with a picture.
  • Draw Names saves group information, so you can draw from the same group of people again and again. There is also an option to input your wish list and view the wish list of the person you've selected.
  • Secret Santa Generator lets you add rules (like person A can't pick person B), which is useful when two people live in the same household or your group doesn't want to pick the same people as last year.

A New Apple Rumor Suggests a Jet White Option Is Coming to the iPhone

If the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are the top of your holiday wish list, you might want to reconsider it. A new rumor is suggesting that Apple will add a "Jet White" color to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

The rumor comes from Japanese blog Macotakara, a source that's usually reliable on Apple leaks and rumors. However, in this case, the post is short and does not include any other details other than saying the jet white option information comes from "supplier parties." The addition of a new color would also not "follow the traditional cycle of Apple product releases," reports 9to5Mac.

Like all Apple rumors, take this one lightly and decide for yourself whether it's worth waiting to see if it rumor comes true.

Why You Should Ditch Your Dermatologist For Acupuncture

I suffered from debilitating migraines for years, and after experiencing countless negative side effects (and little relief) from powerful medications, I had just about given up on treatment. That is until a close friend of mine recommended her acupuncturist. She had been seeing him for about a month for her headaches, anxiety, and hormone imbalances and had nothing but glowing reviews. I quickly booked an appointment, and after regular treatments, I found that my migraines had considerably subsided, leaving me with only one or two painful days a month instead of the 15-plus days I was used to.

That's when I decided to do some digging. What couldn't acupuncture treat? Nearly nothing, as it turns out. Acupuncture is shockingly versatile, even for skin care. It's a great alternative method for aging skin and breakouts in lieu of more-invasive procedures like Botox and heavy-duty acne medications. So far, I've been blessed with clear, firm skin, but when the time comes to get more serious about my complexion, I'd rather go with preventative options over corrective ones. I sat down with my acupuncturist, Dr. Min Zhang, a practitioner for over 25 years, to get the skin care scoop.

Glitter Eyeliner Is the Prettiest Way to Wear Sparkle For the Holidays

So, you've mastered the smoky eye, the winged liner, and a seductive red lip . . . unfortunately, by holiday party season, so has everyone else. If you're looking for a way to stand out this year, you're going to need a secret weapon. And for 2016, the technique you should have in your arsenal is glitter eyeliner.

Various takes on sparkly and sophisticated glitter eyeliner are sweeping across social media, dazzling Instagram beauty gurus. Even the experts are taking notice. According to Make Up For Ever's Executive Director of Education and Artistry Patrick Eichler, it's a must-try style for Winter. "The holiday season is all about shimmer, so there's no better time to turn up the sparkle in your makeup."

One of the best things about this technique is the various ways it can be customized, making it a pretty pick for less experienced gals and makeup maestros alike. For a more dramatic finish, layer the glitter liner just above a black base, add it to a smoky eye, or show off your skills with a wing worthy of Cleopatra herself.

For those seeking a more subdued style, Eichler recommends Make Up For Ever's Aqua Liners ($23), especially those with diamond finishes: "[These products] give a beautiful metallic sparkle, require no mixing, and are easy to apply. Perfect for the glitter 'newbie.'"

The finished effect can also vary due to the product chosen. Those who want a bit more sparkle can mix a glitter shadow or powder - Eichler suggests Make Up For Ever Diamond Powder ($25) - with a liquid liner or adhesive like Make Up For Ever's Aqua Seal ($21). If you really want to gleam, try the same method with loose glitter, which comes in a variety of sizes. Eichler notes that depending on whether you choose small flecks or larger chunks, "the looks [will be] different, from fairy-dust sparkle to disco-ball reflective."

The Naked Peruvian Chef Made His Debut Ellen Show Appearance - and Things Got Steamy

Despite owning a popular restaurant in NYC's Lower East Side, Franco Noriega is primarily known for his Instagram where he frequently poses wearing nothing but underwear. Often referred to as the "naked Peruvian chef," Franco just made his debut appearance on The Ellen Show and it was hilarious.

During the cooking segment, Franco showed Ellen how to make a vegan take on the Peruvian tacu tacu dish, as well as a colorful salad. At one point, Ellen asked Franco if he ever worries about burning himself, to which he replied, "No, I'm really comfortable. Worst case, you can burn yourself a little bit but that's fine."

The Sweetest Way to Tell Your Kids the Truth About Santa

Santa is everywhere you look during the holiday season, and that can be confusing for children. Seeing so many Santas inevitably brings up the question, "Is Santa real? And if Santa is real, which Santa is real?" No parent wants to lie to his or her child. And no parent wants to burst the magical bubble that makes the holiday season so precious.

Chantel R., who is considering what to do, remarks that some parents refrain from telling their kids the Santa myth at all "because they don't want to lie."

Where do you stand? How do you explain Santa to your children?

What if you had a wonderful explanation of who Santa really is? An explanation that doesn't lie or destroy the magic of the season? Would that be helpful? If so, then you're in luck.

Several years ago, I read a New York Times piece that answered the Santa question perfectly. I knew in my bones this was destined to become the classic answer. I contacted the writer, Martha Brockenbrough, and got permission to republish her piece. First, let me set this up: Martha's daughter has figured out the truth about Santa, which "left her mother grappling with how to explain that belief." She did it with this letter:

If You're Trying to Lose Weight and Failing, Read This

Whether it's the Freshman 15, breakup weight, baby weight, or can't-stay-away-from-the-dessert-cart weight, losing those extra pounds is not as easy as putting them on. It doesn't matter if you have five or 105 pounds to lose, here are the top reasons most people abandon their weight-loss goals, and what you can do to prevent it from happening.

It's Taking Too Long

Just as those pounds seemed to slowly creep on, it also takes time to slowly shake them off; coming to terms with this will make it easier to stick with your plan. Know that to safely lose weight and keep it off, you'll only drop one to two pounds a week, so do the math and you'll have an idea of how much time it'll be before you're near your goal weight. Find ways to celebrate your smaller goals and it'll help keep you on track.

I'm Hungry

Weight loss comes down to simple math: calories in cannot exceed the amount of calories out. If you choose high-calorie foods, you'll only be able to have a few bites, which will leave your belly empty and unsatisfied. Eat smarter by choosing low-calorie foods like vegetables, high-fiber foods like whole grains, and foods with high water content like fruit. These foods will keep you feeling full, preventing hunger pangs.

I Miss My Favorite Foods

French fries, pizza, burgers, chocolate cake, ice cream - it's hard not to spend every minute thinking about the foods you shouldn't eat. Plain and simple: diets don't work. You can't sustain an eating plan that is too restrictive. Of course, you won't lose weight on a diet of doughnuts alone, so eat healthy most of the time and allow yourself a little splurging to prevent feeling deprived; or find healthier ways to enjoy the foods you crave, like with this pizza quinoa polenta instead of a regular slice from the pizzeria, or this three-ingredient chocolate ice cream that's completely dairy-free.

I Hate Exercising

If you don't love it, find something you do. Maybe running on the treadmill isn't for you, but try giving that indoor cycling class a shot. Maybe you can't stand working out alone, and need to join a gym to get involved in some group classes. Or maybe exercise can't seem like exercise at all, and you'd rather go for an adventurous hike or mountain bike ride. If you look forward to your workouts, they're more likely to happen. Also be sure to mix up your workouts, because even though you're obsessed with Zumba, you don't want to go so often that you get burnt out.

I've Tried Everything and Nothing Works

When you're eating right and exercising and the scale isn't budging, it's understandable why that frustration would make a person give up. There are many reasons why what you're doing may not offer results, such as not doing the right kind of exercise, not exercising enough, overdoing it on healthy foods that are high in calories, or miscounting calories. Seek out the help of a professional like a nutritionist or a personal trainer, or sign up for a weight-loss program that offers support. Experts in weight loss can offer tips and shed some light about what mistakes you might unknowingly be making that are sabotaging your weight-loss goals.

This Advice From a Pro Marathon Runner Will Make Any Workout Better

It's a little otherwordly watching elite runners compete in the NYC Marathon. Take Sally Kipyego, for instance. Kipyego, a runner from Kenya, placed second in this year's 2016 TCS NYC Marathon. With a finish time of 2 hours and 28 minutes, Kipyego ran a marathon in less time than most people need to run a half-marathon. I couldn't even come close to sustaining Kipyego's marathon pace (5:39/mile) for even a single solitary mile. Despite how different Kipyego is to someone like you and I, her formula for success is applicable to just about anyone.

Last year, during Kipyego's debut at the 2015 NYC Marathon, things didn't go as planned. After a promising start, Kipyego would drop out after the midway point. At this year's post-race press conference, Kipyego said she was grateful for last year's "disappointing experience."

"The biggest lesson that I learned [last year] was that the marathon is definitely not a sprint," said Kipyego. "Just because you feel good for 20 miles doesn't really mean much in a marathon. You need to be able to survive the entire 26.2."

To succeed this time around, Kipyego decided to listen to herself instead of getting too caught up with what was happening around her. "I decided to run my own pace today and not get carried away with the leaders," she said. This resulted in a comfortable, loose race, and one that Kipyego called a "good experience."

I know all to well how easy it is to ignore your inner voice during a workout and get caught up in what everyone else is doing. Am I running faster that the person on the treadmill next me? Why is everyone in this yoga class more flexible than I am? There's no way I am doing the least amount of squats in this class! While a little healthy competition can be great at motivating yourself, be careful to not fall down a hole. In doing so, you ignore the most important person in the equation - yourself. And, much like Kipyego did in 2015, you also risk pushing yourself past your max to the point of no return.

You Won't Believe These Lego Instructions From the 1970s

Update:

Lego sent us an email confirming the message's authenticity. "Yes, the text is from 1974 and was a part of a pamphlet showing a variety of LEGO doll house products targeted to girls aged four and up from the 1970s," said spokesperson Roar Rude Trangbæk, who added that the text remains relevant to this day across every LEGO product.

Original story:

Recently, a photo of a Lego message to parents in the 1970s went viral on Reddit. Mostly because it looks so different from Lego's gender marketing of today.

Source: Reddit user fryd_

Inspiring, isn't it? Some commenters have questioned the letter's authenticity, blaming poor formatting and font choice, but the poster alleges that it's real, and we've reached out to Lego for verification.

The letter reminds us of a wonderful Lego ad from the early '80s. Can we please have more like this and less like the sexist Barbie programming book?

Every Parent Who Owns a Car Needs to See This Now

Some might call it a miracle, but the fact that two children in the back seat of this car survived - with only minor injuries, no less - is more than luck: it's responsible car seat safety at work.

A multivehicle accident in Wakulla County, FL, last year left a car completely pummeled and nearly smashed flat. At first glance, the damage is so severe that it's hard to imagine anyone in that car - particularly in the back seats, which received the brunt of the impact - survived. Thankfully, the driver, an unnamed mother, had taken the time to properly secure her two children into backseat car seats, and, according to the Wakulla County Fire Rescue Facebook page, which covered the accident, all three family members walked away with only minor injuries.

The images of the aftermath are shocking, but it's worth looking closely - they are an important reminder of the life-saving power of proper child restraint in motor vehicles.

This Mom's Hilarious Cartoons About Pregnancy Problems Will Be the Funniest Thing You See All Day

Nobody ever said that being a mom is glamorous. And although there's plenty of talk about that wonderful pregnancy glow, most moms can relate to the less seductive side effects that everyone experiences but few talk about. You get sick, you get hairy, and you get big.

Illustrator and mother of two Line Severinsen can't help but laugh at these "joys" of motherhood and started making hysterical cartoons of her real-life pregnancy problems. From pining over a glass of wine to judgmental strangers staring when you breastfeed in public, her relatable illustrations have developed with her motherhood experiences.

"I thought to myself that there is no way that no other people felt and looked like I did," she wrote. "So I wanted to create a counterpoint to help people like me to understand that they weren't alone and that it is OK to feel and act less than perfect sometimes."

While we don't know whether to laugh or cry at how spot-on some of these illustrations are, we're just glad to see that we aren't the only ones who've been there!

Katy Perry's Hillary Jacket Will Go Down in History, Just Like Her Dress From 4 Years Ago

For months now, Katy Perry has proudly shown her support for Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail, typically wearing a cheeky graphic tee or flag-inspired dress. But her latest look - a ruffled, mullet style jacket, emblazoned with the words "I'm With Madam President" - will surely be the piece that goes down in history. That was Prabal Gurung's plan, after all, when he collaborated with Katy and her stylist, Karla Welch, on the full navy suit, which Katy then wore during a Get Out the Vote concert in Philadelphia.

"This is the last rally before the election on Tuesday," the top designer told Vogue when speaking about the process. "It was crucial that we create an unforgettable piece to inspire people across the country."

Although this particular outfit was nod toward Hillary's pantsuits, we couldn't help but be reminded of a tight white mini Katy wore back in 2012, showing support for President Obama. The dress looked just like a ballot and the box for Obama was checked - aka a prediction for what was to come. Will Katy be right the second time around? Scroll to see both looks, then stay tuned for the results come Election Night.

Why Saying "Just One Kid" to a Mom With an Only Child Is a Hideous Crime

Whether it's innocent or not, it's not uncommon to hear these words uttered to me as a mom of an only child:

"You have just one kid?"

Yes, just one kid.

There's something damning and almost insulting about this statement. "Just," to me, signifies that one child is not enough. It suggests that everyone should indeed be having multiple children or at the very least two. "Just" screams, "Oh, you only have one kid. That's nothing. I have a lot of kids. Now THAT'S a lot of work!"

I'm here to tell the world that "just one" is enough. It's enough kids. It's enough work. It's a completely legitimate choice. I chose to have one kid, and when I considered having another, it didn't work out for me due to health reasons and a divorce. At this point, I cherish and love having an only child. Why I chose to have one child, whether it was for a health issue or simply because I only wanted one child, is no one's business. No woman needs to account for why she has no kids, 10 kids, or two kids. Our reproductive plans are our own to carve out. We can only hope that if people have children, whether two or 10, they care for them as active mothers and fathers.

And what really gets me fired up is the insinuation that "just one child" is not work. Granted, I am certain that running a household of multiple children is pretty much akin to running free in a psych ward, but "one child" is still work. Besides, it's not my problem as a mom of an only child that someone else chose to add on work by having more kids and I - or any other mom of an only child - didn't, no matter our reason for having an only child. I never put a gun to anyone's head and asked her to have many kids. So when you tell me "just one kid" as if I am having personal spa days every day of my life, I would like to remind you that your comment is insulting, not supportive of mothers, and assumptive in so many ways. One woman could have two healthy children, and another could have one who is not healthy. Which do you think is more work? Another mother could be a single parent of one, and a mom of three could have a comfortable lifestyle and active dad and partner. Who is to say what is easier or harder?

And furthermore, why are we as mothers so insistent on claiming martyr's status? Ladies, instead of pointing out who has it the worst - single parents vs. married, working mothers vs. stay-at-home mothers, etc. - let's instead acknowledge that in each home and family, every mom has her own unique battles; it doesn't matter how many children she has, whether she works or not, and if she's married, divorced and coparenting, or parenting alone 24/7. By fighting this invisible battle and mommy war of "Who has it the worst," we are creating an unsupportive and weak atmosphere for ourselves and for our daughters. So put down your metaphorical crosses and try to see each unique situation as it is.

When you see a mother of one, don't assume that it's easy. To be honest? Sometimes it's more work to entertain one child because we can't simply say, "Go play with your brother," but for me thankfully, my daughter is independent. Quite frankly, the idea of having more than one child makes me a little nutty. I have loads of respect for mothers holding down the fort with more than one child, especially those who raise three or more. Kudos to you ladies! But for this mama, one kid is enough work, enough love, enough joy, enough pain, and enough in my heart to keep me over-the-moon happy that I get to call myself a mom.

Last but not least, let's not forget the pain you could be inflicting on a mother when you say those insensitive words: "Just one kid." Many moms I know with only children had one child because another was not in the cards for health, financial, or fertility reasons. When you open your mouth and spill out, "Oh, just one kid," you are ignorant of the potential heartache lying underneath your comment. Maybe that mom didn't want it to be "just one kid," but that's what she got and she is grateful for that child.

Ladies, if you're rocking one, two, or five kids, let's all be here for each other as women and mothers virtually, in person, and in spirit. If only we banded together as a unit - mothers of all races, classes, and identities - we would be a most powerful group.

3 Things That Help Reduce Belly Fat

If you're constantly doing crunches to get a six-pack, you may be going about things the wrong way. Along with fat-burning cardio, the best way to lose belly fat is through these three diet changes.

Eat These

Proven to reduce abdominal fat, MUFAs (monounsaturated fatty acids) should be a part of your daily diet, and you can find them in avocado, nuts and nut butters, seeds, and olive oil. Just be mindful of how much you eat since these are also high in calories. Blueberries are also proven to diminish belly fat, so make a point to throw them in your salads and smoothies. Some foods like pineapple contain an enzyme that helps ease digestion and banish bloat, making your belly look and feel flatter. High-fiber foods like pears, berries, veggies, beans, and whole grains have the same effect - plus they keep you feeling full longer, just like healthy fats. Feeling full keeps hunger at bay, so you crave less and eat less, reducing your total daily calorie intake which will reduce your overall body fat, including that extra bit around your middle.

Ditch These

Trans fat is a big no-no for your health in general, but also for your belly. It's found in many processed foods like granola bars, crackers, cookies, some peanut butter, and breads. If the list of ingredients includes partially hydrogenated oil, put it back on the shelf. Avoid processed foods, soda, and meats that are high in saturated fat. Try to limit sugar, simple carbs like bagels, and alcohol since these won't fill you up, so you'll end up eating extra calories you don't need. Also, steer clear of foods that personally cause you bloating like dairy products, sweeteners, or bread.

The Trifecta

You don't need to give up carbs and go all crazy with a protein-only diet. Instead, CrossFit competitor Christmas Abbott told us to embrace the macronutrient trifecta of proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats to help reduce overall body fat, which will aid in reducing stubborn belly fat. Including all three in your meals will make you feel more satisfied so you end up consuming smaller portions. Plus, you'll feel fuller longer which helps you consume fewer total calories.

He Thinks He's Doing a Taste Test, but She's Surprising Him With an Epic Pregnancy Announcement!

When Cory Williams's wife asked him to take part in a live taste test, he didn't even flinch - the popular YouTube star documents most of his life on video, after all.

But when he was blindfolded and instructed to eat three different foods from glass jars - ice cream with honey, mashed avocado, and one of his childhood favorites, banana baby food - he had no idea that it was all a ruse for Kristen to announce some big news, first in the form of handwritten signs that she held up for viewers while Cory took spoonfuls of mystery bites and then, after he correctly identified the baby puree, with a question: "Anyone else who might like that?"

As clever as the taste-test decoy was, Cory's tearful, ecstatic reaction to the news that they are having a baby was what truly stole the show.

"This is how my wife told me we're having a baby. I can't watch this video without crying," Williams wrote in the caption of his YouTube video. "We're so happy! We're going to have a baby!"

20 Snaps That Prove Style Is in the Olsen Family's DNA

There's no doubt the Olsen twins are known for their success in fashion, wearing and designing their own covetable labels like The Row and Elizabeth and James. When the duo steps out, we always take note of their outfits and lately, we've counted one more Olsen sister, Elizabeth, into the mix.

The youngest the trio has appeared in editorial spreads for Nylon and blockbuster hits like Captain America: Civil War. Like Mary-Kate and Ashley, Elizabeth not only has acting chops, but she's also a full-fledged fashion girl. She sits front row at Fashion Week, attends the MET Gala annually, and like her sisters, has a similarly chic aesthetic - though Elizabeth's style is more playful and feminine. While she does coordinate with her sisters, usually in black, on the red carpet (it's more fun!), when she's on her own, her personal style shines through.

Read on for 20 snaps of Elizabeth that prove excellent style runs in the Olsen family.

Rare GIF of a Dying Star Will Make You Rethink Your Existence

The Hubble Telescope recently celebrated its 26th birthday, and in those years it has given us an incredible look at the vast world we live in. Case in point: a rare peek at a dying star.

From 2002 to 2006, Hubble captured close-up images of an enormous star named V838 Moncerotis, which sits 20,000 light-years away from Earth. Back then, the star emitted a powerful flash of light that illuminated the dust and gas that surrounded it.

"Hubble's exceptionally sharp focus of V838 Mon offered a ring-side seat at the slow death of the star and excited astrophysicists with the chance to study the physics of the light, matter and microscopic dust of the interstellar medium," writes The Conversation, which offers more details about the life of the star and the cause of that light flash.

Below you can see a time-lapse video of the photos taken by the Hubble. Looks fake, doesn't it?

9 Outfits That Never Go Out of Style

With every runway and every new trend, I'm less enthused with what's in my own closet. The answer I'm finding isn't always in stocking your closet with new stuff but in remembering the value of great essentials - and how to work them time and time again. So I'm going back to basics with nine timeless outfits you can rework and rewear any way you like. It starts here with a few easy formulas; just add and subtract to make them your own.

How Having a (Much) Younger Sibling Changed My Life

When we were kids, my little sister Madison and I were the M&Ms - my parents' duo of daughters. We were the only kids among friends and family since my parents got married and had the two of us before age 30. As sisters we received a lot of attention, and we liked it that way. So it was quite a surprise when my mom and dad sat us down to let us know that baby number three was on the way; I was 10 years old. To say the least, my sister and I were a little perplexed at the thought of some new baby coming to town and turning our world upside down. Little did I know that this new baby would change my life forever.

As soon as my brother Mac was born, he completely stole my heart. Even at almost 11 years old, I created a bond with this tiny little baby that most people don't get to experience until they are much older. It's been almost 12 years since Mac was born, so I've learned a few things from having a young brother. Here's my case for spread-out siblings:

  1. You learn about responsibility early on. Having an infant in your life means watching your parents endlessly change diapers, make bottles, and wipe spit-up. Every once in awhile, I was allowed to do those things (under parental supervision), and I learned just how important it was to take care of this little life before I even hit middle school. Needless to say, I was an excellent babysitter.
  2. You watch a child grow up. I remember the first time Mac crawled, walked, and said my name. I remember how excited my family was when we discovered how fast of a reader he was in kindergarten. I'll never forget telling him bedtime stories before he went to sleep at night, and I especially won't forget when he told me about his first "girlfriend" last year when he started middle school. I'm watching this kid grow up into a man - well, more like a prepubescent tween - but you get the picture. It's cool to think about the entirety of his life and how far he has come. I have been able to experience that.
  3. You stay in the know. Most 20-somethings don't know what the heck Minecraft is. I didn't, either, until my hip, tech-savvy brother told me about the video game. And that's not the first thing he's told me about. I work in a trend-driven editorial environment, and my brother still manages to find out things before me. Good thing he has no problem telling me that I actually don't know about anything cool at all.
  4. You teach your sibling life lessons. From a young age, my brother watched my sister and me overcome personal challenges, go to high school, and, worst of all, get our hearts broken. Nothing makes Mac more upset than a mean guy who hurts a girl's feelings. We joke that Mac is going to be the best husband ever when he grows up, but he really will be. Watching his sisters go through life's tribulations has taught him how he should act when he gets older.
  5. You create an incredible bond. I have no shame in telling people that one of my best friends is an 11-year-old boy. Now that I don't live with my family anymore, I feel this incredible guilt if I go too long without seeing my siblings. When the three of us are together, it's pretty much the best time ever. Even though Mac and I are aged so far apart, we have this assurance of trust and understanding between us. He looks up to me and knows he can tell me everything; I look to him for comic relief and a really good hug when I arrive back home.

So if that doesn't convince you that siblings with big age gaps are a good thing, I don't know what will. All I can say is that my family wouldn't be the same without Mac. In fact, our family without him is unimaginable. So thanks, Mom and Dad, for turning the M&Ms into the Three Musketeers.

3 Ways the "Magical Fruit" Can Help You Lose Weight

Beans may be known mostly for their unpleasant odiferous side effect when eaten, but beans are actually nutritious little gems. If you follow these tips, you can eat beans without the bloat, which means you can reap these weight-loss benefits. Here are three reasons to plate-up with beans.

Hello, Fiber!

While the fiber content of beans helps keep things moving, it also gives you that "I'm full" feeling. Satiating your hunger is the key to preventing overeating and consuming too many calories for the day. But you don't just need to eat a plate of plain beans; in fact, you can add beans to smoothies - you won't be able to taste them at all. Or throw them in your scrambled eggs, add them to soups, pasta dishes, or as a topping on homemade pizza.

Protein Punch

Beans aren't just for vegetarians. Omnivores can soak up bean protein as well. High-protein beans help keep energy and blood-sugar levels stable, which helps prevent cravings for sugary pick-me-ups that tend to be high in calories and void of nutrition. Since a couple hours between meals tends to be common crash times, including beans for breakfast and lunch will keep you peppy until your next meal. Whip up a sweet potato, chickpea, and quinoa veggie burger, a plate of polenta with beans, or a satisfying bowl of slow cooker chickpea coconut curry.

Smart Snacking

When trying to beat the scale, you need to make sure that you're eating quality foods low in calories and high in nutrition. Beans make perfect snacks too, so look beyond the typical carrot sticks and hummus pick-me-up and try pairing your fruit with this chocolate hummus. You can snack on honey-roasted cinnamon chickpeas, veggies with creamy white-bean dip, or these delicious edamame pear crostinis. You can also enjoy a low-cal dessert with fortified with beans, like these peanut butter oatmeal raisin cookies or black bean brownies.
