New Balance Comes Under Fire For What Many Perceive As the Company's Full Support of Trump

In light of recent comments showing support for President-elect Trump's opposition of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), New Balance is quite literally coming under fire from sneakerheads everywhere. The controversy started yesterday after Wall Street Journal reporter Sara Germano tweeted out the following statement from New Balance's VP of public affairs.

After Sole Collector shared the news on its Twitter feed, followers started to tweet photos of themselves burning their New Balance sneakers in protest.

It's important to note that Sole Collector's initial tweet on the issue may have led many to believe that New Balance was taking a wholly supportive stance on President-elect Trump. The company's comments were specifically about TPP, a proposed trade deal between the U.S. and 11 Pacific Rim nations, negotiated by the Obama administration. If passed, it would be the largest regional trade agreement in history and would strengthen ties between the strategic countries and, most notably, lower tariffs between them. Opponents of the TPP, who include President-elect Trump, Bernie Sanders, and Hillary Clinton, say the TPP would result in the loss of thousands of jobs in the manufacturing industry here in the US, amongst other concerns.

Of all the big-name sneaker brands, New Balance is the last to carry a "Made In USA" label, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the company would have a position on the TPP. While a majority of New Balance shoes are made abroad, 25 percent of New Balance shoes sold in the U.S. are made in one of the company's New England factories, where more than 1,300 people are employed. This results in about four million pairs of New Balance sneakers being made stateside on a yearly basis.

When asked to clarify its position, New Balance issued the following statement to POPSUGAR:

As the only major company that still makes athletic shoes in the United States, New Balance has a unique perspective on trade in that we want to make more shoes in the United States, not less. New Balance publicly supported the trade positions of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Donald Trump prior to Election Day that focused on American manufacturing job creation and we continue to support them today.

We believe in community. We believe in humanity. From the people who make our shoes to the people who wear them, we believe in acting with the utmost integrity and we welcome all walks of life. Since 1906, we have carved our own path in being passionately committed to making things at our five factories in New England, even when nobody else did. New Balance and our thousands of employees around the world constantly strive to better our local communities. We always have and we always will.

When pressed further, New Balance declined to comment, but told Buzzfeed that is not interested in "getting involved in the politics of presidential elections," and that the comments previously reported were only in relation to TPP.

Instagram's New Update Lets You Finally Tag Friends in Your Stories

Sorry, Snapchat, but your new World Lenses might not stop people from continuing to use Instagram Stories, especially with the new features the company is adding. You can now use Boomerang, tag friends, and, if you're a verified user, add links to your Instagram Story.

The features, out today on iOS and Android, are easy enough to use and find. Want to use Boomerang? Tap the "+" icon at the top right corner of your screen. If you swipe right, you'll see a new Boomerang option. Unlike the Boomerang app, you can switch between the rear and front-facing cameras.

If you love tagging your friends in your photos and videos on Instagram, that option is now available on Stories. Use the text tool to write the username of your friend with the @ sign. Once the Story is live, Instagram will send a direct message to your friend to let them know they were tagged.

For verified users, Instagram is now letting them add links to their Stories. This is perfect if you follow a brand you love and want to shop the clothes in its Story or read an article from a media outlet. For now, regular users can't access the feature, but we wouldn't be surprised if it was opened up to everyone soon enough.

Take a look ahead to see what the features look like and download the update as soon as you can.

Gigi Hadid Turned the Sidewalk Into a Runway With This 1 Outfit Detail

We were all ears when Gigi Hadid sat down with Jimmy Kimmel last night to talk about her career and that brand-new Stuart Weitzman collab of hers, but we were sure to tune in after the show, too. When Gigi left the studio, she hit the sidewalk looking like the supermodel she is. While we'll admit that part of that is just in her genes, the outfit had a lot to do with this major street style moment, and one piece in particular.

Gigi's curve-hugging dress is surely the sexiest part of her outfit, and those strappy heels don't hurt either. But the real wow factor comes from that Roberto Cavalli duster coat, soaring like a superhero's cape behind her as it catches the wind. A look at the pictures, and you'll surely agree - it's this drama-inducing piece that makes all the difference for Gigi, and for any of your outfits, too.

Why the Name of Hillary Clinton's Lipstick Could Be a Sign That She's Not Done Fighting

Intense feelings washed over women around the world as they watched Hillary Clinton give her concession speech earlier this week. Many felt grief, others felt frustration and disappointment, but a very select few felt a specific kind of curiosity: what lipstick is she wearing?

Though it may be a little short-sighted to focus on Hillary's looks, many beauty-lovers seek to emulate their heroines by copying their makeup choices. Refinery29 reports that Secretary Clinton's makeup artist used Votré Vu Champs Elipsee Lip Crayon in Spark ($24), a midtone rose.

Considering there was a beautiful hidden meaning in the purple color of Hillary's lapels, we wouldn't be surprised if the name of this lip color was symbolic, too. After all, what has likely kept this powerful woman going in the face of adversity throughout her entire life is a spark - of hope, of determination, or of idealism. If using the same lipstick as Hillary can inspire us to accomplish even the smallest positive change in our communities, then sign us up. She may not have won the election, but we know that she's not done changing the world.

Don't Ditch Your Skinny Jeans Just Yet - They're Totally Making a Comeback

While my personal relationships are all pretty healthy, the one I have with jeans is anything but. Last year, I broke up with skinny styles, ridding my closet of anything too binding. I'm a creature of comfort, after all. I love boyfriend cuts, cropped options, and will even ditch denim for track pants. But here's my confession: for 2017, I'm ready to take skinnies back.

When we first parted ways, I considered my skinny jeans the opposite of flattering. On my body, they seemed to highlight what I didn't want highlighted (my hip area), and a looser fit was definitely comfier. Recently, however, my boyfriend jeans have lost their thrill. They've started to feel shlumpy and lazy, and weigh down my petite frame if I'm not wearing heels (and I rarely wear heels).

I've started to realize skinnies actually do create flattering proportions, especially if they hit right above the ankle. Anyone of any size can pull 'em off, too, and it doesn't matter if you're wearing a tank, tee, or bulky sweater - they'll always look great, putting curves on display (and hugging your booty).

Even boyfriend jeans are being phased out, with tighter "girlfriend" and "mom" styles taking their place. The move towards slimmer cuts have convinced me skinnies are climbing their way back to the top, but don't just take my word for it. Scroll for the proof - and some shopping, too!

23 Texts That Prove Women Are Ready to Fight and Support Each Other

As the election results came in, it was hard to navigate the heavy feelings and emotions that arose in my mind. To me, the results were not what I expected, and the beacon of inspiration I had during this election was slowly diminishing. The historic moment people like me - young women - were hoping to see quickly slipped away that night.

I felt small as I watched more and more states appear red on the TV. But, hundred of miles away, my mom reminded me that this was not the end of our fight. "Women will still be able to push forward," she said. "We have definitely been making progress. We need to keep pushing through this."

Within minutes of the final election results, my cherished friends from across the country also reached out. They were prepared more than ever to keep that inspiration we all had (and surely still do) alive. Our text messages were both coming to terms with what the results meant - and what we would need to do next.

This is a tough time for many people. But, knowing that friends and family will be by our side and are willing to work towards a better future is surely the most inspiring catalyst yet. These supportive messages got friends out of bed and into the office. It made both younger and older generations realize that we are not done fighting. And most importantly, these texts extended love to those who have been marginalized most.

These messages (literally) re-illuminated the inspiration that felt dimmed down. We are women and we are here to make our mark. Stand tall and proud with your friends, and always remember, as Hillary Clinton said in her concession speech, to "never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it."

Can Pimples in the "Danger Triangle" Really Kill You? An Investigation

As much as I am ashamed to admit it, I still compulsively pick at my skin. Nothing - from Post-it notes to throwing out our magnifying mirror - has stopped me from clawing at my complexion. That is, until I heard about "the danger triangle" from YourTango.

Look at your face in the mirror. Imagine there is a dot on the bridge of your nose and one at either corner of your mouth, then mentally connect them to form a triangle. According to YourTango, you should never pick at pimples in this patch of skin. Supposedly, should you incur an infection in this area, it could kill you.

Shaken up by the very thought of this (could I have a deadly infection right now?!), I sought the intel of three dermatologists: Dr. Julie Russak, founder of Russak Dermatology Clinic; Cane + Austin founder Dr. Craig Austin; and Sadick Dermatology owner Dr. Neil Sadick.

While she admitted an infection of this magnitude would be very rare, Dr. Russak acknowledged that this is a dangerous location for a blemish to appear.

"It is a very vascular area with a lot of blood vessels that connect to the cavernous sinus," she explained. "Cysts and pimples contain bacteria, and if we pop them or if they rupture, there is a small possibility that the bacteria can get into the bloodstream, leading to an infection in the brain."

Dr. Austin agreed, adding, "Theoretically, an infection from a cyst or abscess could possibly spread and lead to cavernous sinus thrombosis."

Cavernous sinus thrombosis is a very serious condition that is characterized by a blood clot that blocks a vein behind the eye sockets. Symptoms include fever, severe headache, and blurred vision. This could lead to a retrograde infection, complicating your ailment and making you even sicker. That said, the initial diagnosis of cavernous sinus thrombosis should be something that should terrify you, as it causes death in 30 percent of cases.

However, Dr. Sadick disagreed, declaring the "danger triangle" nothing to worry about. "Although there are many blood vessels located in this zone and there is a potential risk of infection, squeezing acne lesions in this area to cause an infection to enter the bloodstream is a very minor and insignificant concern," he said.

In this day and age, where powerful antibiotics are readily available, you should not be paranoid that a pimple in the middle of your face will put you in peril. Instead, you should be troubled by a less deadly (and more cosmetic) issue.

"Ultimately, you really shouldn't be popping anything on your face because it could lead to scarring, which is really the problem to be more concerned about," Dr. Austin said. Your picking could also cause dark marks on your skin. "This area is prone to postinflammatory hyperpigmentation," Dr. Russak warned. "If more inflammation is created by popping at home, one can be left with a brown spot for months to come."

However, all three dermatologists do agree that if your pimple becomes more significant than a common whitehead, you should visit a doctor for treatment.

"The size of the pimple - as opposed to the location - is really what you want to be aware of," Dr. Austin remarked. "If you have anything larger than a whitehead or lasting over a week, you should always consult your dermatologist." A typical whitehead is about one to two millimeters, so if your spot is bigger, it's worth getting it checked out.

Dr. Russak added, "If it is very red or the redness is spreading, or you are observing tenderness or drainage, then it could be a sign of a localized infection."

If you begin to experience chills or night sweats or are suffering from a fever, you could have a bloodstream infection. In this case, you should absolutely visit a doctor. Otherwise, leave it alone and stop picking!

Snapchat's Spectacles Are Here, but You Can Only Buy Them at Certain Locations

Snap Inc.'s Spectacles, a pair of sunglasses that can record video to send to Snapchat, are finally here. The company announced the product's arrival with a quirky video showcasing the vending machine that will sell Spectacles.

Spectacles will only be available through Snapbots, which are vending machines that will dispense the product for $130 (plus tax). The location of the bots isn't known; instead you need to click "Find a Bot" on the Spectacles website, where you'll be redirected to a map. Before a Snapbot arrives somewhere, the website will post where it is 24 hours in advance. Or you can also stumble across one if you open Snapchat and see a Spectacles geofilter.

You can buy Spectacles using a debit or credit card and in three colors: black, coral, and teal. Unsure about whether you'll like them? The Snapbots will let you virtually try one on. Below is a tweet of what the buying process looks like.

The #1 Reason You Should Be Adding Beans to Smoothies

If you're addicted to smoothies in the morning because they're quick and a delicious way to get a ton of healthy foods into your body, you'll definitely want to get on board with adding this nutrient-dense ingredient to your blender. Beans!

I know it sounds weird, but because they're virtually flavorless, you'll never even realize they're there. They not only add a wonderful creamy texture, but they're chock-full of fiber and protein, two must haves to make your smoothie extra filling. The longer your hunger is satiated, the less food you'll need to eat, which is why adding beans to your smoothie can help you lose weight.

Depending on the beans you choose - cannellini, pinto, or black - for around 50 calories, one-quarter cup adds three grams of fiber and three grams of protein. But if you choose kidney beans, one-quarter cup offers five grams of fiber and four grams of protein.

Here are three smoothies that are made with beans:

If you don't have time to cook dry beans in the crockpot, open up a can of beans (I like Eden and Westbrae Natural because the cans are BPA-free), rinse and drain them, and store them in a glass container in the fridge so they're easy to grab in the morning. Or you can freeze pureed beans, so when you're ready to make your smoothie, just throw two cubes in your blender.

The 1 Piece That Will Keep Your Wardrobe on Trend All Season

I have a theory: more than anything else a woman is wearing, her jeans totally give her away. More than an It bag or the season's biggest shoe craze, denim trends quickly reveal how much you pay attention to current fashion. You could tell in 2008 who was staying up on what's in vogue when women started wearing skinny jeans and left their flares in the back of their closets, and you can tell now just as easily looking at the distressed, cropped hems, straight legs, and high rises characteristic of the new mom jeans that were popularized all over the streets during Fashion Week.

They're essentially a fashion girl calling card each season, an everyday sign of the times that puts a modern stamp on your outfit, regardless of whether you're wearing them with Fall's biggest blouse trends or your favorite years-old t-shirt. So you don't have to invest in all the trendy gear to give your look a contemporary twist - just a pair of good jeans. Read on to see the silhouette that's dominating Fall '16, then shop the styles for yourself. It's undoubtedly the easiest way to update your outfit for the whole season.

13 Stress-Relieving Beauty Products That Will Help You Find Your Zen

It seems unfair to name "Fall" after crisp, cascading leaves, because for many of us, this is a time when everything from blood pressure to stress levels is surging to an all-time high. There's the impending holiday season (which requires intensive shopping, cooking, and cleaning), constant spreading of illnesses, and inclement weather. 1 Move For a Perkier Bust and Stronger Arms

Image source: POPSUGAR Photography / Rima Brindamour

Is it any wonder we fawn over Michelle Obama's triceps and Ellie Goulding's strong silhouette? What if I told you there was one exercise that you're overlooking that will give you that boost in both your arms and chest? It will take some work, but we think you're ready to put in the effort.

Why Do Breasts Get Saggy in the First Place?

First things first: Why do breasts sag? As women age, gravity naturally does its job of pulling down on us. The Cooper's ligaments - the connective tissue in the breast that help them keep their shape - will slowly stretch out with age, which causes sagging.

Another reason breasts may sag is from weight loss. If you've ever gained a lot of weight and then lost it quickly, it may seem as if your breasts have deflated. Weight gain will cause the skin to stretch, and as we lose the weight over time, it may not go back to its normal state, causing breasts to look saggy.

Can You Actually Lift Breasts Without Surgery?

The short answer is yes! By performing exercises that target the pectoral (chest) muscles you will definitely have a positive impact on your bust. Even though the ligaments that keep the breast upward and shapely are slowly stretching out, it's always possible to build muscle, tighten, and tone the chest.

What's the Exercise Already?

The diamond push-up may not be the easiest exercise in the world, but if it were easy, it wouldn't be so effective, right? This variation of a regular push-up will help you reach your goal of having sexy arms and a lifted chest.

We asked personal trainer, Heather Neff for the breakdown of how to do the move properly and here are her tips to see the best results!

How to Perform the Diamond Push-Up

  • Step 1: Begin by getting into a regular push-up position. Make sure your body is in a straight line and your hips are not sagging or pushed up towards the ceiling.
  • Step 2: Place your hands flat on the floor directly under your chest to where both index fingers are touching, and both thumbs are touching. This makes the shape of a diamond out of your hands.
  • Step 3: Slowly lower yourself towards the ground by bending at the elbows. Be sure to keep your back straight, hands in place, and core tight.
  • Step 4: Once you are a couple of inches from the ground, raise yourself back up to the starting position and repeat for at least 10 reps.

If you can't quite perform this variation of the push-up, start on your knees instead of your toes. Do a few sets of 10 reps about three times per week from the knees until you gain strength, then transition to the toes.

The best part is that you can do this push-up variation from the comfort of your own home, and you don't need any costly equipment. Give it a try and be sure to take some progress pictures so you can see how much this exercise is working for you.

1 Move For a Perkier Bust and Stronger Arms

These are 10 important tips that will help you to stop hovering over your child before they become too dependent.

I Tried 13 Mascaras to See Which One Works Best on Asian Lashes

When a quick Google search informed me that CoverGirl's Lashblast Length mascara had been discontinued (#RIP), I was devastated. Like most Asian women, I have naturally thin and short lashes, and that particular CoverGirl formula was the most effective at making them seem longer and fuller. An eyelash-extension expert once told me my lashes were about 8mm long (less than an inch!), and since then I have vowed to have lashes 10mm or longer. But getting lash extensions every two weeks for the rest of my life wasn't really practical.

The next best solution: finding a new mascara I can be 100 percent committed to. I sourced friends, co-workers, and the internet to research which mascaras work best, specifically for Asian lashes. I was on the hunt for a mascara that would deliver both volume and length in one easy-to-use tube, and I realized: isn't that what most people want? Just more so if you have fine eyelashes. After trying 13 different mascaras, I can safely say I found some formulas that make saying goodbye to my old CoverGirl standby a lot easier.

5 Reasons to Adopt a Senior Pet and 5 Ways to Make Them Feel at Home

Puppies, kittens, and other young animals tend to be adopted first because they are just so darned cute. But this means that shelters often overflow with older animals who can make even better companions than their baby-faced counterparts. As the parent of a 14-year-old Jack Russell whom I raised from a pup, I can tell you that I look fondly on her wild and wacky days at the dog park, but I appreciate these last few golden years of mellow neighborhood walks and long afternoon naps.

Because there are so many older ladies and gents who still need a loving home, I'm providing a handful of reasons why you should consider adopting an aging pal and a few ways you can make them feel right at home.

We Live in a Stressful, Harsh World: Here's How to Feel More Joy

When I was in high school and feeling overwhelmed or down, I'd force myself to make a list of things I was grateful for. If bad feelings progressed, I'd continue to write this list every night before bed. I'd just get out my little journal or a piece of paper and write down every single thing in my life that brought me joy.

I set out to reshift my focus; I had the opportunity to be bogged down in suffering and sadness or to refocus on the beautiful, wonderful gifts my life had to offer me. Little did I know that this simple practice I began implementing as a teenager is actually rooted in science. Yes, there's a neuroscience of gratitude!

As Psychology Today reported, "Gratitude, particularly if practiced regularly, can keep you healthier and happier." It also analyzed a Chinese study from 2012 that showed "higher levels of gratitude were associated with better sleep, and with lower anxiety and depression."

Today, I still keep a gratitude journal; a study published in Clinical Psychology Review noted that "gratitude diaries are an effective technique that can be useful for clinical practice." Said study also reinforced the conclusion that gratitude is an effective way to treat depression and anxiety and improve sleep.

I've also added the concept of practicing gratitude into my daily meditation practice. I take 10 minutes out of my day to recenter myself and focus on the present moment; I recount a few things in my life that I'm particularly grateful for each day.

Now more than ever, this practice is so important. When it seems like there's more violence on the news, nonstop shootings, ceaseless terrorism - we must shift our focus back to the positive, to the millions of joyful, beautiful things we have in this world and in our lives. Also, it's been shown that gratitude does, in fact, reduce violence. So that helps, too!

It can be as simple as "I'm healthy. I'm alive. I have both my legs! I've got people who love me. There's a roof over my head. I can read. I can see." There are so many incredible things we take for granted every day; good things become the "normal," and that makes bad things feel worse. Remember that our "normal" is actually very, very good! And if we shifted our focus just a little, we'd realize just how good we have it.

It's easy to focus our attention on the horrible things happening around the world - and I am by no means marginalizing the gravity of these events. They're awful, and there's no way around that. But painting the world with a broad brush and saying we live in a terrible time will not serve you in any way.

Find strength and joy in gratitude. Choose to be grateful. We're stronger when we're armed with that power, and let's be honest, the world could use a little more happiness.

TV Reporters Share 10 Hair and Makeup Hacks For Getting Ready Fast

TV reporters get a bad rap for just being pretty faces. But imagine doing your normal workload on a tight deadline and then, at the end of the day, also having to get dolled up for the camera.

I've worked in television for nearly seven years in Bend, Oregon for two different TV stations. My roles have included reporter, anchor, and weathercaster, and I can't even count the number of times I've had to go from midday makeup to camera-ready in a matter of minutes. Most people don't have to worry about the way they look by the end of a stressful workday, but because TV is a visual medium, it's crucial. Anything out of place is a distraction, and I only have one chance to get the audience to listen and care about my story.

Three of my closest friends also work in TV across the country, and between the four of us, we've learned some seriously slick tricks to help make the magic happen. We've done it all from using activated charcoal as a dry shampoo to stealing toilet seat covers from the office bathroom to blot oil off our face. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the top hair and makeup hacks we use, so that you can benefit from them, too!
