23 Texts That Prove Women Are Ready to Fight and Support Each Other
As the election results came in, it was hard to navigate the heavy feelings and emotions that arose in my mind. To me, the results were not what I expected, and the beacon of inspiration I had during this election was slowly diminishing. The historic moment people like me - young women - were hoping to see quickly slipped away that night.
I felt small as I watched more and more states appear red on the TV. But, hundred of miles away, my mom reminded me that this was not the end of our fight. "Women will still be able to push forward," she said. "We have definitely been making progress. We need to keep pushing through this."
Within minutes of the final election results, my cherished friends from across the country also reached out. They were prepared more than ever to keep that inspiration we all had (and surely still do) alive. Our text messages were both coming to terms with what the results meant - and what we would need to do next.
This is a tough time for many people. But, knowing that friends and family will be by our side and are willing to work towards a better future is surely the most inspiring catalyst yet. These supportive messages got friends out of bed and into the office. It made both younger and older generations realize that we are not done fighting. And most importantly, these texts extended love to those who have been marginalized most.
These messages (literally) re-illuminated the inspiration that felt dimmed down. We are women and we are here to make our mark. Stand tall and proud with your friends, and always remember, as Hillary Clinton said in her concession speech, to "never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it."
