This Clever Baby Shower Paired Food With Classic Children's Books in the Best Way Possible
Even though this mom had a classic storybook-inspired baby shower, nothing about her bash was typical. To celebrate their family's newest arrival, Kristen's sister focused on the small details from a variety of beloved children's books to create a memorable affair.
After making a list of must-read stories for the little one, she took ideas from each story to create the afternoon's menu. From caprese salad skewers in honor of I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato and meatballs from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs to dessert including moon pies as a nod to Goodnight Moon, each dish and drink served enhanced the day's feel. For another special touch, guests were asked to sign a copy of Curious George in lieu of a traditional guestbook (which will be something the baby will grow to cherish). Check out the inspirational DIY details ahead!

Barack Obama Sings Christmas Carols With Chance the Rapper Like Nobody's Listening
Barack Obama got into the festive spirit on Thursday night when he attended his last National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony as president. Barack, his wife Michelle, and their youngest daughter Sasha were all on hand at the fun event, which was held at the Ellipse in President's Park in Washington DC. Not only did stars like Eva Longoria, Marc Anthony, and Kelly Clarkson get in on this year's fun, but the president also couldn't hold back when it came to belting out a few Christmas carols. In an adorable moment that probably made Sasha say, "OMG, please stop," Barack sang "Jingle Bells" alongside Santa Claus and Chance the Rapper (or should we say Wrapper?). Michelle also made sure to participate, as she read The Night Before Christmas for a group of young children. Watch all the holiday fun in the video above, but fast-forward to the 11:25 mark if you want to get straight to Barack's singing skills.

Live Somewhere Cold and Own a Gadget? You Gotta Read This
You may not realize it, but freezing temps can be just as dangerous to gadgets - if not more so - as the Summer heat. That's because there are hidden dangers you can't see. Check out these six Winter weather tips that will help ensure your gadgets see the light of Spring this year.
- Keep them out of the trunk - Keep your laptops, cell phones, and tablets out of the trunk for extended periods during cold days to prevent damage to screens and to keep your hard drive from freezing.
- If you must trunk it, keep it bundled up - If you absolutely must leave your gear in your car in freezing temps, wrap it up in layers - like a jacket or sweater - to keep it warm. You can also find laptop warmers (which are specifically made for laptops) to keep them from getting icy if you live in cold conditions.
- Turn them off - Letting your laptop or tablet remain in sleep mode may keep it warmer (since it is still working), but it also increases your chances of damage if you're on the move. Be sure to power down all the way to keep your data safe.
- Warm up before booting up - If your machine is on the cold side, let it warm up to room temps slowly before turning it on. This will prevent condensation and dew, which can ruin your computer's sensitive guts.
- Carry a charger - Cold weather sucks the life out of your batteries, so be sure to carry extra chargers in your car for emergencies.
- Watch out for sensitive screens - Cold weather makes a smartphone screen extra sensitive, so be sure to keep it close to your bod if you're out in the snow or consider a warm accessory - like a smartphone wallet, sock, or sleeve - to keep it cozy.
How Often Do You Really Need to Clean Your Makeup Brushes?
We're true makeup fanatics, but there's one part of our routine that we actively detest - washing our brushes. We know we have to, but not only does it take up a lot of our time (which we could be using for Netflix binge-watching!), it could actually damage our favorite tools if we do it wrong. We reached out to Jenny Patinkin, celebrity makeup artist and founder of luxury brush line Lazy Perfection to get her top tips on brush care, cleansing, and more.
If you're more of a skimmer, let this be the one fact you learn: do not share your brushes with anyone else. "Coming in contact with your own oils and germs is one thing, but being exposed to someone else's bacteria is entirely another," Jenny warned. Once you know the danger of a dirty brush, you'll want to clean your tools daily! Here's how to get the job done.

The Tasteful Way Gilmore Girls Handles Edward Herrmann's Death
Edward Herrmann died on Dec. 31, 2014, but his beloved presence is felt throughout the four episodes of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Hermann played Rory's grandfather, Richard, on the original series, and ahead of the premiere of the new episodes on Netflix, creator Amy Sherman-Palladino promised us that they would address the death of his character. Not only is he mentioned, Richard plays a big part in the revival.
In the first installment, "Winter," there's a flashback to four months before. It's Richard's funeral, and we see the three Gilmore girls sitting in the front row. Later, Rory and Lorelai are comforting each other while Emily looks at the coffin and "Time" by Tom Waits plays. Up on the table of memories is Chuck Berry: Live at the Fillmore Auditorium, the album that Rory gives him for his birthday in the first season.
After the service, friends and family - including Lorelai's former beau, Jason Stiles - convene at Emily's house. Luke leaves to drive Rory to the airport, and Lorelai gets hammered and tells a few stories from her childhood about her father abandoning her. It's rough, and she and Emily get into a huge fight.
Once "Spring" rolls around, Lorelai and Emily are attending therapy together and we finally get the rest of the story. Emily stands Lorelai up for a session, and Lorelai opens up to their therapist about her father's death. He had a major heart attack (a "stunner," as she puts it), and never made it out of the ICU. She says he got angry at the end, and that his last words were, "Get the hell away from me," aimed at the nurses.
Even if you haven't watched the series, you can see the gigantic portrait of Richard that Emily orders in the trailer. She does eventually admit that she mistakenly ordered the wrong dimensions, and when she retires to Nantucket, she puts up the regular-sized picture on her wall.
In the "Fall" segment, we also get closure from Lorelai when she tells her mother a beautiful story about how Richard comforted her when a boy broke her heart when she was 13 years old. He found her at the mall on a school day, and when he saw how hurt she was, he took her to the movies, bought her popcorn and candy, and never told Emily. That's the Richard Gilmore we'll remember, too.
Everything the Cast of Gilmore Girls Has Said About a Possible Season 2
As soon as we zipped through Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, we had one question. OK, we had several questions, but the biggest one is: will there be more episodes, or is this truly the end? After all, the "Fall" episode leaves us with a huge cliffhanger! Will creator Amy Sherman-Palladino leave us to speculate about all those open-ended storylines? The cast and creators are appearing very neutral in interviews, but we've combed through and found all the tidbits that could indicate a second season . . . or not. But maybe. Take a look!

How to Transform Your Coffee Into a Morning-Appropriate Hot Cocoa
On particularly chilly 6 a.m. wakeup calls, my morning joe needs to be a little richer than usual to motivate me to get my move on. The special treat that gets me going is what I call "hot chocolate café au lait." Here's how I make it: I start with half a mug full of piping hot coffee, then stir in a heaping tablespoon worth of hot cocoa mix (Guittard Grand Cacao Drinking Chocolate Powder ($7) is my favorite). Next, I whirl up whole milk, half-and-half, or Califia Better Half (almond-coconut milk creamer) into my milk frother (I have a Nespresso Aeroccino ($100)). I fill the remaining space in the mug with the warm, foamy cream and top it with a few marshmallows (Dandies are my pantry staple). I find this to be better than any store-bought mocha. It's slightly indulgent yet won't send me into a sugar coma at the start of the day.

This Encounter Between Santa and a Little Girl Will Bring You to Tears
For parents, mall Santa Clauses are a mixed bag depending on how their child reacts to them - some kids break down into tears because they're terrified of the bearded stranger, while others try to stay on Santa's lap all day to talk (read: dream) about Legos, Barbies, and more. This mall Santa likely seemed pretty typical - that is, until a little girl who is hard of hearing and doesn't speak much got plopped onto his lap.
In the beginning of the video, the little one seems a bit unsure - she waves to her mom and dad off-camera and looks ready to hop off Santa's lap - but then her mom lets Saint Nick know that she doesn't speak very well, and he asks if she can sign. Once she tells him that her daughter understands a bit, he immediately starts using sign language to speak to the girl, and her whole demeanor changes - she starts chatting back and looks totally overjoyed.
We think it's safe to say that this is the sweetest mall Santa ever. Either that, or perhaps he's the real deal?
The Walking Dead: Oceanside Might Be the Only Thing That Saves Alexandria From Negan
I don't think I'm alone in saying that the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, "Swear," is more than a bit frustrating. Like previous episodes this season, it centers around one story and one story only, resulting in the plot inching forward slower than the legless zombie from season one. After that devastating premiere, we can understand what they're going for, but it's still incredibly annoying to check in with only one or two main characters at a time. The only redeeming factor in "Swear," which features an update on supporting characters Tara and Heath, is that it introduces a new community, one that might be the deciding factor of who wins the war between Rick and Negan.
After Tara and Heath get separated when she falls off a bridge in the middle of a surprise walker attack, she washes up on the shore of a beach patrolled by the gunslinging women of the Oceanside Cabin Motor Court community, and later stumbles into their camp after being spared by one of its members. The camp is made up entirely of women (prompting Tara to hilariously ask at one point, "I never thought I'd be asking this, but where are all the men?"), most of whom want to shoot Tara on the spot. Thankfully the community's leader, Nanette, intervenes, and offers her a chance to tell them the truth about her origins and the opportunity to become a part of Oceanside. Tara rejects the offer, saying that she wants to get back to Alexandria to see her girlfriend, whom she doesn't yet know is dead (RIP, Dr. Denise). Nanette says that's fine, and sends Tara on her way with two escorts to ensure her safety. Of course (of course) they try to kill Tara, but not before she learns an important piece of information: there aren't any men in Oceanside because the Saviors brutally murdered any male older than 10.
Is any of this surprising information? No. Negan and his merry band of murderers aren't exactly stand-up dudes. The important thing to remember is that this is yet another group that has the potential and the motivation to be mobilized in the battle against Negan. As much as I've been questioning The Walking Dead's storytelling abilities as of late, I find it hard to believe that they'd dedicate nearly an entire episode to introducing a new community (one that barely appears in the comics, no less), only to never revisit them in the future. It's starting to look more and more like Maggie will become the official leader of Hilltop, which she'll then unite with Alexandria and Ezekiel's Kingdom to try and destroy the Saviors. Just when you think that all hope is gone and that Negan is primed for victory, Tara will ride in at the last minute with the help of Oceanside, like some kind of zombie apocalypse version of Rohan saving Gondor.
Or Negan will just kill everyone. Who knows?

This Hack Will Forever Change the Way You Cut and Juice a Lime
If you're struggling to get a decent amount of liquid out of a lime, turns out you might be cutting it all wrong. Here's an easy hack to get almost triple the amount of juice. Instead of cutting the lime in half, you can make cuts on all four sides of the lime, leaving the center untouched, and you'll be able to squeeze so much more juice out of the sides, according to an image posted by Reddit user regularoldballoon. I wanted to see if it really worked, and spoiler: it 100 percent does. I'm never going back to the old way. Here's how to perfectly cut a lime to get the maximum amount of juice every time, because limes are expensive.
Stand the lime up vertically on a cutting board. You might want to carefully cut off the bottom tip to make this easier (and safer!). In a similar way that you would slice around the core of an apple, use a sharp knife to cut all four sides (or cheeks) of the lime, coming close to the stem. You'll be able to squeeze out all the juice from the cheeks with little effort, and you can even get a few more drops from the core.
You can clearly see the difference! When I sliced a lime in half, I got less than a tablespoon of juice, and the other lime yielded more than double that amount. Your guac and margaritas are about to be better than ever.
How to Keep Lemons Fresh For up to 3 Months
This tip for storing lemons is so easy. Accoring to Food.com, if you refrigerate lemons in a bowl of water, they will keep for up to three months! It sounds insane, but I'd be willing to give it a try. And if you want to extend the life of a lemon even futher, freeze the zest and the juice separately.

The Best Holiday Gift: Martha and Snoop's Show Is Picked Up For a Second Season
Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg are arguably TV's most unlikely yet most unstoppable duo - so unstoppable that VH1 decided to renew their joint cooking show, Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party, for a second season. And man, are we excited!
In this season's first four episodes, we've witnessed some wacky shenanigans. The premiere was exactly as epic as we'd hoped it would be, as Seth Rogen, Ice Cube, and Wiz Khalifa joined the hosts in a battle to see whose fried chicken recipe reigns supreme. The next three episodes have included a slew of other specials guests - Ashley Graham, DJ Khaled, Chris Bosh, and Naya Rivera, to name a few. Thanksgiving turkeys have been cooked, lobsters have been steamed, and the laughs have been plentiful, as Snoop and Martha demonstrate week after week just how oddly perfect the two are together in front of the cameras.
The duo's series garnered enough buzz to name them cable's top new unscripted franchise of 2016 with 3 million total viewers. And it looks like Snoop and Martha are thrilled to have another season in the works. "That's right, me and my homegirl Martha will be back for another season and we can't wait," Snoop Dogg said to VH1. "Thanks to all the fans who tuned into season one. If ya'll thought this season was fun, wait 'til you see what we have cookin' up next for ya."
We're already looking forward to another season of hilarious yet hunger-inducing episodes. Until then, you can catch us cracking up at Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner every Monday at 10 p.m.
Why Your Favorite Nestlé Chocolates Are About to Have a Lot Less Sugar in Them
Nestlé has invented a new way to make your favorite chocolates taste even sweeter with less sugar. Dr. Stefan Catsicas, Nestlé's chief technology officer, explained how the company's improved sugar crystals will affect the amount of sugar inside of Nestlé products by comparing the process to a shoe box.
During an interview with The New York Times, Dr. Catsicas "compared a normal crystal of sugar to a shoe box, where the box is made of sugar and everything inside it is also made of sugar. The new sugar, he said, will be processed to have the same sugar exterior - though it may be a globe instead of a box - to dissolve in the mouth. Because less sugar is inside, less goes to the stomach."
Nestlé announced its plans to gradually roll out its distribution of "sugar lite" candies beginning in 2018. Dr. Catsicas says the goal is to reduce the amount of sugar in Nestlé products by up to 40 percent while not losing its sweetness.
We're on board with candy that has less sugar, but aside from wondering whether this new sugar is safe, the most important question is, obviously, will it taste the same?!

This Wine Advent Calendar Is The Best Gift You Could Give Yourself
When my co-worker shared this idea for a wine advent calendar, I knew I had to re-create it with my own spin. The idea is simple: countdown to Christmas by opening a bottle each night. I included ornaments with numbers that you can hang on your Christmas tree if you so desire (PS - it's totally legit to save them for future seasons too). Even though a traditional advent calendar is only 24 days, I included a special bottle of Champagne for Christmas Day with a bright Santa ornament.
Before you begin this DIY, here's what you'll need:
- 25 bottles of your favorite wine (white, red, Rosé, and sparkling); consider using half bottles or even beer too
- 24 craft tags
- Red, green, silver, and gold pens (Sharpies work great)
- 24 Mini multicolored ornaments
- 1 special Christmas ornament (I found the Santa at Target)
Now for the procedure:
- Write 1 through 24 in different colored ink on the craft tags.
- Then string different colored ornaments through the craft tags.
- Tie craft tags around the neck of each bottle. Reserve the nicest bottle for Christmas and tie your special ornament around its neck.
- Store the bottles in a wine rack (with the tags facing outward) or design in a tree-like pattern on a table.
- Each night, drink a bottle! For bottles that require chilling, put them in the fridge in the morning so they are ready to go that night.
Let the countdown begin!

To give his fans what they want, the New York City-based restaurateur, who owns a spot on the Lower East Side called Baby Brasa, recently started a YouTube channel, where he demonstrates how to re-create his best healthy recipes - naked, of course.
Though Franco's initial cooking videos were in his native Spanish, following his steamy appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at the end of October, he has started filming them in English. From the classic açai bowl to a vegan aloe ceviche, keep scrolling to watch Franco whip up your new favorite dishes over and over again.
Who Needs a Hatchimal When You Can Fight the Empire With a Star Wars Drone
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know that the toughest toy to get your hands on this season has been a toy egg that hatches a stuffed animal. Well, the Hatchimal is about to be dethroned by a big-kid toy that just may be the coolest thing to hit the market this holiday season. Everyone's favorite Star Wars vehicles can now actually take off, fly, and battle thanks to Propel's Star Wars Battle Quads ($240) - essentially Star Wars drones.
The quadcopters, currently available in three versions - a T-65 X-wing fighter, Darth Vader's Tie Advanced X1, and a 74-Z Speeder Bike from Return of the Jedi (a Millennium Falcon version will be available next year) - are approximately the size of your hand and fly up to 200 feet away and up to 35 miles per hour. Unlike similar quadcopters, each of the four propellers is clear and placed under the body of the devices so the vehicles actually appear to be flying through the air on their own. Each quad comes equipped with two batteries that provide approximately eight minutes of fly time.
Though the box provides a suggested age of 14+ for the devices, Propel must know that younger kids are going to want to try their hands at flying an X-wing Fighter because it's created three levels of play that take novices into account. The beginner level (highly recommended as I immediately crashed one upon taking over the controls this week) maintains an even altitude during flight so the pilot can work on mastering the steering function. Each quadcopter also comes with a training cradle that protects the device should it crash into a wall or perhaps a tree on Christmas morning. Intermediate play makes the quad a bit more responsive to the controls, while level three play is full-force, 35-mile-per-hour play.
But much like the ones in the movies, these quads do more than fly - they actually engage in multiplayer battles via lasers (red for the rebel forces and green for the imperial forces). Pit two or more against each other and feel on the control each time your quad is hit. After three direct hits, your drone will fall into a flat spin and slowly drift to the ground. Battle points will be tallied in a soon-to-be-released app, which will also be used for flight simulations and worldwide competition.
The quads are beautifully designed, each hand-painted with detailing that even the most ardent Star Wars fan will appreciate. But there is more to it than just the quads that come in the box - the box itself is something to behold. More of a presentation case than a box, lift off the top and prepare to be amazed as it illuminates and begins playing Star Wars theme music tied to the model inside. The case can be charged via USB cable so it can be repeated time after time.
So what's the catch? The Star Wars Battle Quads are going to be tough to get your hands on. Though the website allowed people to reserve the opportunity to purchase one, they are entering a limited release tomorrow that will only see them distributed at Bed Bath & Beyond, Brookstone, and Best Buy. A more widespread release is planned for later next year.
Read on for images of each of the three quads being released, and good luck getting your hands on one before the holidays!
6 Fascinating and Haunting Facts About the JonBenét Ramsey Murder Case
This year marks 20 years since 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered in her family home, and the cold case is still just as captivating as it was in December 1996. JonBenét's father, John, was the one who found her body on Christmas Day in the basement of their Boulder, CO, home roughly eight hours after her parents reported her missing after they found a ransom note. An autopsy of JonBenét's body later revealed that she was struck in the head and strangled to death.
Because the 20-year anniversary is approaching and interest in the case is once again picking up steam, there are a number of TV specials currently in the works. While The Killing of JonBenét: The Truth Uncovered and JonBenét: An American Murder Mystery already aired on A&E Investigation Discovery, respectively, The Case Of: JonBenét Ramsey will air on CBS on Sept. 18, and Who Killed JonBenét? will air on Lifetime on a yet to be announced date in November. Here are six facts about one of the most haunting and heartbreaking murders in recent history:
1. JonBenét suffered a horrific death.
The stunning little girl was found wrapped in her white blanket with a nylon cord around her neck, her wrists tied above her head, and duct tape over her mouth. Evidence later showed that she was hit over the head with a blunt object, which knocked her unconscious. Sometime between 45 minutes to two hours after she was knocked out, she was strangled to death with a piece of cord and the handle from a broken paintbrush. Police also later confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.
2. The ransom note posed more questions than answers.
JonBenét's mother, Patsy, told police that she realized her daughter was missing after she found a two-and-a-half-page ransom note in their home. The letter demanded the Ramseys pay $118,000 for their daughter's safe return, which was also almost the exact amount her father, John, had recently received as a work bonus. Police later determined that the note was written on a piece of paper from a notebook inside the Ramsey home. Both John and Patsy then underwent handwriting tests, and while police were able to say that John didn't write it, Patsy's test results were labeled "inconclusive."
3. There was no sign of a break-in.
Police found no signs of forced entry in or around the Ramsey home. The only people known to have been in the house on the night of the murder were Patsy, John, and JonBenét's older brother, Burke, who was 9 years old at the time.
4. Police were criticized for making crucial mistakes.
Shortly after police arrived, they failed to completely seal off the crime scene, allowing family members and friends to enter and leave the house. Critics of the case also claim that investigators failed to gather sufficient forensic evidence before and after JonBenét's body was found. Many people believe this is because they had already made up their minds that the Ramseys were guilty and didn't feel the need to gather evidence proving otherwise.
5. Both of JonBenét's parents as well as her older brother, Burke, were considered suspects.
Because it seemed so unlikely that kidnappers would kill their victim, leave the body in their own home, and still leave behind a ransom note, police were quick to turn their suspicions to John, Patsy, and Burke. Boulder police believed for many years that on the night of the murder, Patsy injured JonBenét in a fit of rage and either killed her while still angry or killed her to cover up the injury. In 1999, a Colorado grand jury voted to indict Patsy and John because they believed they were abusive toward their daughter, which eventually led to murder. In 2008, two years after Patsy died of ovarian cancer, prosecutors officially cleared the family of any wrongdoing. Burke also recently sat down for an interview with Dr. Phil about the case, which will air in mid-September.
6. There is still unexplained DNA evidence.
In December 2003, investigators retested a blood sample found on JonBenét's underwear, which was revealed to belong to an unidentified male who was not related to the Ramsey family. To this day, investigators have not been able to identify who the DNA belongs to, and the case remains open.
This Early Christmas Gift After His Dad's Death Is Exactly What 1 Toddler Needed
While responding to a disturbance call, Blake Snyder was shot and killed.
At the time of his death, this St. Louis officer left behind a wife and 2-year-old son, Malachi. Although it has been two months since Blake's tragic passing, Malachi doesn't understand yet that his father won't be coming home. "Malachi has been asking for his daddy a lot which is hard," his wife, Elizabeth Snyder, told KTVI. "I don't know how to respond to him yet. Every time I look at him, I'm also reminded of my husband not coming home."
But during this difficult time, Malachi receives some comfort in an unexpected way from his dad. The child now has two new teddy bears that were made out of Blake's uniforms to cuddle whenever he needs a hug. The meaningful stuffed animals were given to the little boy as an early Christmas present from a family friend and include special messages of "love you always" and "always with you" stitched into each bear's foot.
"He wasn't perfect, (no one is), but he WAS a perfect father. He loved Chi with every fiber of his being and wanted the world for him," Elizabeth wrote in a separate post on Facebook. "These two boys mean everything to me, and I'm thankful I have a bit of Blake still here with me."

Revisit Adam Sandler's Chanukah Song, Because It's the Greatest Part of the Holiday Season
Back when Adam Sandler was kind of an up-and-comer, one of his first claims to fame was the holiday song "The Chanukah Song," giving a festive jam to the Jewish holiday. Sandler has never turned his back on the song, updating it periodically, and we're revisiting the 2015 version. This time, stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Adam Levine, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt all made the list, along with some fictional characters like Harry Potter and Olaf. Guess what? Still fun to hear Sandler belt the names out after all these years.

Why The Santa Clause Perfectly Depicts Your Childhood Image of the North Pole
The holidays are officially upon us, and one of the best things about the festive season is getting nostalgic about how you used to celebrate as a kid. In between sledding with your friends, writing those carefully thought-out Christmas lists for Santa, and baking cookies with your mom, you probably spent a lot of time dreaming about the North Pole. What was it like? How many elves lived there? Could you apply to be an elf? If so, what experience did that entail? Many Christmas movies brought the mysterious and magical place to life, but in my opinion, none did it better than The Santa Clause.
Nothing can ever really compare to the 1994 film starring Tim Allen, but the film's two sequels, The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, still held true to their original North Pole vision. The quaint buildings were decorated with candy canes, there was a Ball Room, and Santa got to collapse in a gigantic bed with comfortable sheets at the end of his long night. From the endless amount of toys to the constant hustle and bustle of the working elves to the grand kitchen constantly cooking up gingerbread houses, it was as if the movie took my wildest dreams of what the North Pole could be and made them real. Even if you're all grown up now, keep reading for further proof that seeing isn't believing, believing is seeing.
