Kat Von D's Newest Product Is Like a Double Espresso For Your Dark Circles
Around mid-January, our dark circles start to rival those of a raccoon's. Late nights partying, scant hours of daylight, and indulging in too much Champagne takes a toll on the thin skin under our eyes, making us look more tired than ever. This year, however, Kat Von D is launching a brand-new product to make our undereyes appear bright and fresh: Lock-It Brightening Powder.
Some lucky fans have already tried the product - it was briefly available during Sephora's Black Friday sale. For the rest of us that missed out, though, we'll have another chance to snap up Lock-It Brightening Powder on Sephora.com Jan. 10.
The formula appears to be an ultralightweight setting powder with brightening properties. The official brand disclosed on Instagram that it "brightens and smooths undereyes to look younger and more awake," so we'd also guess that it fills in and blurs fine lines to make you look ageless. Lock-It Brightening Powder will be available in three shades: Golden (a pale yellow), Peach (a soft bisque), and Petal (a light rose) to suit a variety of skin tones. Keep reading to get a closer look, then stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
This Insane Harry Potter Theory About Santa Claus Will Make You Rethink Everything
Have you ever questioned the magic of Santa? It's a pretty amazing feat for him to travel all over the world, delivering presents in a flash. To one Reddit user, it became perfectly obvious why Santa can do all that he does: he must be a wizard, just like Harry Potter!
Reddit user Arumple created a thread discussing why Santa is a wizard. Several users, including TheSortingSombrero, chimed in with great reasons proving that Santa is definitely not a Muggle.
How else is Mr. Claus able to fit all of those wonderful gifts into one bag without it tearing apart? And what about his undetectable house in the North Pole? Sounds familiar to Hogwarts, doesn't it? And the only explanation for Santa being able to deliver all the toys in one night has to be because he uses a Time Turner!
Keep reading to see the mind-blowing theory that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about Santa Claus ahead. It all makes perfect sense when you really think about it.
Wait Until You See All of the Epic Christmas Gifts 1 Lucky Person Received From Bill Gates
Bill Gates just made this Christmas very special for Reddit user Aerrix. As a participant of the RedditGifts Secret Santa Christmas exchange, Bill Gates sent the unsuspecting woman a delivery with tons of epic gifts inside to make up for her horrible gift exchange experience last year when she was left hanging after another Reddit user never sent her any gifts.
Aerrix says she arrived home after shipping off her Secret Santa gift this year and found a FedEx delivery tag left on her door. She called the delivery service and asked if the delivery could be reshipped and to her surprise, 15 minutes later the "giant box" was back at her doorstep. She explained,
"So then I get the box open and there's just bubble wrap EVERYWHERE, but under the first layer I see a picture . . . and my jaw. Just. Drops. I will let the picture speak for itself! I immediately call my husband at work, I normally text him first to make sure it's ok if I call but I couldn't wait...he answered and I spoke very quietly because I knew if I didn't I would just yell, and I said something like 'dear, please tell me you can talk right now,' and he sounded worried and he's like 'yes? What's going on?' And I said BILL GATES IS MY FREAKIN SANTA!!!!!!!! I worried him too much, it took a second for it to sink in but oh MAN I was excited and flipping out! He had to get back to work so I called my mom and talked to her and sent pics the whole time I was opening presents!"
Inside the Secret Santa gift box included matching Zelda mittens for Aerrix and her dog, a Minecraft edition XBox One, three special edition XBOX One controllers, Ravenclaw slippers from Hot Topic, the limited edition Halo 5 Guardians, and the new Tomb Raider video game, among other things!
Look through the gallery ahead to see all of the epic gifts.
Aerrix says the most generous component of it all, aside from the awesome gifts, was Bill Gates's charitable donation to code.org in her name which will give students the opportunity to learn computer coding. "It's something near and dear to my heart as my husband is a programmer and my brother has a degree in computer science!" she wrote.
"Thank you SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO much Mr. Gates! I'll never EVAR forget this Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Move Over, Brisket, This Latke Burger Will Become Your New Favorite Hanukkah Meal
When it comes to a festive Hanukkah meal, you're probably used to seeing the same menu each year: brisket, latkes, a green vegetable, and doughnuts. The holiday, which commemorates the miracle of a night's worth of oil from an ancient temple lasting a full eight days, is celebrated with fried food. But who says it must be celebrated with brisket?
Not Schnippers, a mini chain of comfort food joints located around New York City. In celebration of the festival of lights - and grease - the chefs there are launching what must be a first of it's kind: a latke burger. The all-beef patty is topped with a homemade potato latke and then finished off with caramelized onions and horseradish sour cream before being placed on an onion roll. It's a modern take on the traditional meat and potatoes found on a Hanukkah table.
But if you want to try it for yourself, you have to head to NYC before the end of the year, because much like the oil that inspired Hanukkah, when the holiday ends (Dec. 31), the latke burger will disappear from the menu.
9 Iconic First Lady Gowns Worth Talking About
Traveling to Washington DC two days after what will surely be the most important election of my lifetime was scary. I'm not going to lie. I heard rallies outside my hotel room all night and passed angry mobs holding signs outside the Trump hotel. But during the day, while Barack Obama met with President-elect Donald Trump inside the White House, the streets were quiet.
I traveled with a small group of editors to the first ladies inaugural dress exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum, and it was only there, in that small, dimly lit room, that I could feel myself starting to relax. The first sign was a poster on the wall that featured a Q&A series: "How will the first ladies collection change when a woman is elected president?" Using the term "when," not "if," instilled hope. Then I veered off, where a short film of Michelle Obama donating her Jason Wu gown to the museum was playing.
So Much More Than a Dress
"This gown is one of the most tangible things I have left to remember that day. At the end of the day today is about much more than this gown. It's also about how with enough focus and determination someone in this room can be the next Jason Wu. Someone can be the next Barack Obama . . . Something you create today can help teach the next generation in a way that nothing else can," Michelle said at the podium.
Her dress was absolutely one of the most intricate on display, what with its Swarovski crystal embellishments and impeccably organized beading. But these dresses I was admiring, some of which dated back to the 1800s, were not made to make the first ladies feel pretty. Each one signified a new beginning.
"Inaugurations are times of optimism . . . In addition to attending ceremonies and balls, incoming first ladies announce the agendas and special projects they intend to pursue. Some projects are ambitious. Some are traditional. Some may be controversial," read a sign on the wall.
Just like the fashion choices they make. And it's true: every first lady was scrutinized for her style, even if she wasn't viewed as an icon. But it was the choices she made in that suit, the momentous speech she gave in that ballgown, that we'll remember. If a floor-sweeping dress is one way to preserve these memories, why not learn everything we can about it? Why not try to understand why Michelle wore white or Lady Bird Johnson chose a simple yellow sheath?
The Legacy, The Future
As I traveled around the exhibit, reading about each gown and the woman who wore it, I passed a very young girl staring up at a picture of Michelle and Barack Obama on Inauguration Day. "Who's that?" her mother asked her, pointing up at a glowing Michelle. "It's the president! They're both presidents!" she screamed.
The first female president will not be sworn in on Jan. 20. In fact, the Smithsonian Museum will make space for one more dress when Melania Trump accepts her role as FLOTUS. But until then, let's consider the takeaways I learned about the first ladies who stood before her.
Each of the facts ahead is proof that these strong women, from Lady Bird Johnson and Jackie Kennedy to Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, were compassionate. They thought of function first, then fashion. They embraced the spotlight, not because of what they were wearing, but because of the confidence they felt when wearing it. All of the women I learned about were leaders. They had what it takes to lead a nation, and one day, a lady as determined as them will. When you're finished reading, I think you'll agree.
What a Time to Be Alive: McDonald's Is Starting Delivery in 2017!
The hangover gods are shining down upon us: McDonald's will start testing out delivery service in January 2017. The fast-food chain plans to introduce the delivery option to nearly 200 restaurants in Orlando, Tampa, and Miami, according to USA Today. Those darn lucky Floridians . . .
Any Big Mac enthusiasts interested in ordering a juicy burger to their doorstep will simply have to order their meal through the UberEATS app or website. Then they can track the order's progress and delivery through the app until their precious cargo of hash browns and Egg McMuffins is delivered. You don't even have to step foot outside your house (or put pants on, for that matter) to enjoy the salty, greasy glory that is McDonald's french fries. What a time to be alive, ladies and gentlemen.
The restaurant will be deciding on future expansion to different cities outside of the Sunshine State after seeking feedback from Floridian customers. Our fingers are crossed! This exciting announcement comes after the fast-food chain revealed its plans to revamp its McCafé brand. Next year is shaping up to be quite the year for Mickey D's, and we can't contain our excitement.

This Hack Will Forever Change the Way You Cut and Juice a Lime
If you're struggling to get a decent amount of liquid out of a lime, turns out you might be cutting it all wrong. Here's an easy hack to get almost triple the amount of juice. Instead of cutting the lime in half, you can make cuts on all four sides of the lime, leaving the center untouched, and you'll be able to squeeze so much more juice out of the sides, according to an image posted by Reddit user regularoldballoon. I wanted to see if it really worked, and spoiler: it 100 percent does. I'm never going back to the old way. Here's how to perfectly cut a lime to get the maximum amount of juice every time, because limes are expensive.
Stand the lime up vertically on a cutting board. You might want to carefully cut off the bottom tip to make this easier (and safer!). In a similar way that you would slice around the core of an apple, use a sharp knife to cut all four sides (or cheeks) of the lime, coming close to the stem. You'll be able to squeeze out all the juice from the cheeks with little effort, and you can even get a few more drops from the core.
You can clearly see the difference! When I sliced a lime in half, I got less than a tablespoon of juice, and the other lime yielded more than double that amount. Your guac and margaritas are about to be better than ever.
This Is the Diet to Go On If You Want to Lose Weight (According to Harvard Researchers)
If you want to lose weight, what's on your plate is often more important than the minutes you spend in the gym. And if you want to see the most change, a 2015 study from Harvard says you should be cutting carbs, not fat.
For the study, published in PLoS One, researchers from Harvard and Brigham and Women's Hospital reviewed 53 randomized trials of over 68,000 patients who had been assigned to either low-fat or low-carb diets. They found that low-carb diets were consistently better at helping patients lose weight than low-fat diets; the participants on the low-carb diets lost 2.5 pounds more than those on low-fat diets, with the average weight loss among all groups at about six pounds.
This latest study on the weight-loss benefits of a low-carb diet adds further evidence that if you want to lose weight, ditching bread - not olive oil - can help you see success. Another recent study, for example, showed that dieters who ate fewer than 40 grams of carbohydrates per day lost about eight pounds more than dieters who were put on a low-fat diet. Other studies have shown that high-carb diets may be the real heart-disease culprit, not saturated fat. All in all, this new review is a good reminder that if you want to lose weight, you should choose a diet rich in healthy fats, lean proteins, and fresh produce. Of course, not all fats are created equal - find out which healthy fats you should be incorporating into your diet here.
Putting a Baby to Bed in 75 Consistent Steps
Sleep experts say a consistent bedtime routine is the key to getting your baby to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. These routines can be as simple as telling them the same story each night, putting on their pajamas in a particular room, or singing a familiar lullaby.
However, in my home, we have a much more elaborate ceremony for creating just the right environment and circumstances to help our little darlings drift off to sleep so everyone can wake up the next day feeling rested and ready to go.
Here are 75 simple steps to creating a bedtime routine you can rely on, night after night:
- Decide that tonight is the night you get your free evenings back.
- Draw a warm, relaxing bath for yourself and baby.
- Cuddle baby close right as he decides to mustard-bomb the bathwater.
- Pick yellow curds from your skin and baby's hair.
- Wrap baby in a snuggly towel.
- Lay out clean pajamas.
- Place naked baby on top of the clean clothes and reach for a diaper.
- Turn back just in time to watch a fountain of pee gurgling from between your child's legs and onto previously dry pajamas.
- Fetch another pair of clean pajamas, but this time put on the diaper before laying out the clothes.
- Check the clock and see that it's now already 10 minutes past bedtime.
- Carry drowsy baby into his bedroom and sit down in the rocking chair.
- Nurse baby or offer him a bottle.
- Close your eyes and sing to baby, preferably the same song as the last 50 times.
- Catch yourself nodding off, but refuse to go to bed at the same time as the baby again.
- Check for baby's eyeballs.
- Realize it's too dark to distinguish between eyeballs and eyelids.
- Turn on phone and shine the light on baby's face.
- Stare into the now-wide-awake eyes of your baby.
- Sing again.
- Take a chance that the baby is asleep and stand slowly from the chair.
- Freeze in midsquat when baby stirs in your arms.
- Hold your breath until he quiets back down.
- Inch your way to the crib while swinging your arms to replicate the rocking of the chair.
- Lower sound-asleep baby into the crib an inch at a time so he doesn't notice the change in altitude.
- Approximately one second later, retrieve screaming baby from bed.
- Dance with baby.
- Lay baby back in bed, but this time keep your hand pressed firmly against his chest.
- Slump over crib until you lose circulation to your arm.
- Remove your hand from baby, one finger at a time.
- Pause with your hand hovering above baby to make sure he's really asleep.
- Back away from the crib.
- Avoid the squeaky floorboard by the dresser.
- Close nursery door behind you.
- Perform a victory dance in the hallway outside baby's room.
- Reach for your phone to brag to your spouse that you are The Baby Whisperer.
- Realize you've left your phone by the rocking chair in baby's room.
- Face-palm.
- Fall to your knees.
- Open the door just far enough to slip into the nursery.
- Crawl on all fours to the rocking chair and fumble around in the dark.
- Find phone on the floor under the chair and cram it into your back pocket.
- Hear baby shift in his crib.
- Close your eyes because if you can't see him, then he can't see you.
- Army-crawl out of the room so baby can't see you through the bars of his crib.
- Close the door too loudly in your haste and wake baby.
- Check the time. Decide to wait five minutes before rescuing baby this time.
- Cover your ears and watch the seconds tick by on your phone.
- After five minutes, realize the baby has gone quiet.
- Creep downstairs and flop onto the sofa.
- Turn on the television.
- Check the baby monitor. Still no sound from baby's room.
- Mute the television and turn up the volume on the monitor.
- Spend 10 minutes imagining all the possible reasons your baby might have stopped crying: a head injury, he stopped breathing, he gave up on life after you horribly abandoned him, etc.
- Press your ear against the monitor and listen for signs of breathing.
- Forget about television.
- Obsess for 10 more minutes in total silence.
- Assume the worst.
- Sneak back upstairs and stand outside baby's door, debating about whether or not to go in and make sure he's breathing.
- Argue with your spouse about whether or not you should go in and make sure baby is breathing.
- Go in anyway.
- Stand over the crib and watch baby sleeping like an angel, and wonder what you did to get so lucky.
- Notice the fluttering of his eyelashes and hit the deck like it's an air raid.
- Realize it's too late and you've been busted.
- Retrieve crying baby from crib and curse yourself for being so paranoid.
- Sniff baby's bottom and realize he's pooped.
- Change baby's diaper.
- Promise baby ponies, candy, a trip to Disneyland, or a million dollars to go back to sleep.
- Dance with baby.
- Sing to baby.
- Finally lay lightly sleeping baby back in his crib.
- Run from the room.
- Check your phone and realize it's after 9 p.m.
- Figure you have about two hours before baby is awake again and wanting to eat.
- Abandon all plans for an adults-only evening and fall gracelessly into bed.
- Promise yourself that tomorrow will be the night you get your free evenings back.
Sure, these steps aren't perfect. They certainly aren't pretty. But they are tried and true and work every time . . . eventually.

It features a brand-new powder formula for the brand in four shades: Throttle (cool-toned silvery ivory in a Satin finish), Harley (a light muted gray in a Matte finish), Chopper (a deep smoky plum in a Matte finish), and Burnout (a rich deep indigo in a Matte finish).
"People have been asking for pressed powders from us for a long time, like most of new launches, it was based on fan feedback!" cofounder and president of ColourPop Laura Nelson told POPSUGAR via email. "Going into creating powders we stuck with our roots - amazing products at a great price. ColourPop has always been about amazing formulas, using high end pearls and pigments with high payout, all for a price everyone can afford."
According to Nelson, the best way to apply the powders is with brushes "for optimal blending." And her favorite colors right now are Throttle and Harley. "I've been wearing a combo of the four shades almost every day," she added. "It's a new take on a smokey eye and it's a way for me to do something a little outside of my comfort zone with color while still remaining neutral."

The 1 Hack That Makes Rolling Out Your Cookie Dough Even Easier
Cookbook extraordinaire Dorie Greenspan just saved Christmas with the ultimate cookie-rolling hack. Rather than rolling your cookie dough out with a pin after letting it chill in the fridge, as most recipes suggest, she recommends rolling your dough before chilling, doing so between two sheets of parchment paper instead of on a flour-covered surface. This totally eliminates the all-too-familiar issue of having your dough stick to either the rolling pin or kitchen countertop. Plus, it gives your arms a break from having to roll out cold, hard dough. Pure genius! Once you've flattened the dough out to your preferred thickness, pop it - parchment paper included! - in the fridge for about an hour. After the dough has sufficiently chilled, let the cutting begin!
This helpful trick originally hailed from Greenspan when Food52 shared the details on how to roll out cookie dough easier. We're beyond glad we came across her life-changing tip and can't wait to test it out ourselves. In the meantime, you can find us stocking up on parchment paper and sprinkles to quench our holiday baking obsession.

Giada De Laurentiis Reveals 1 Crucial Tip For Having a Successful Holiday Party
Giada De Laurentiis recently launched a new website: Giadzy, a place for her to publish recipes that she makes on the fly and shoots with her iPhone as well as cooking tips and restaurant recommendations, among other lifestyle stories. Her reps tell us she has been "quietly working on the content for the past six months. Her goal was for it to be a much more raw and real experience than anything she's done, and timely in a way that isn't possible with TV."
Since we're quickly approaching the holidays, Giada had this exclusive tidbit to share with POPSUGAR along with a few go-to appetizers from her new site: "When hosting a holiday cocktail party, be sure to spread the food around the room so a little nosh is always within arm's reach. It keeps people moving around the room to mingle and to see what's on the platter over there . . . I like to go for apps that are bite-size, like my braised short rib crostini, bacon onion dip, or tangerine and fennel focaccia."
5 Things You Should Try to Say to Your Child Every Single Day
There are no doubt hundreds of exchanges between you and your child each day including everything from morning routine encouragement, yelling at them to pick up their toys, praising the art they brought home from school, and reading bedtime stories together. With each day, the exchanges will change slightly, but there is one routine exchange you should strive to have with your child every single day - a positive one that will remind them how appreciated, admired, and loved they are, always.
These are five things you should say to your child every single day, whether they be scattered throughout or said in one fell swoop before bed:
- Something they did that you're proud of.
- Something you know they tried their best at.
- Something you loved doing with them.
- Something they said that made you laugh.
- And no matter how you choose to say it: "I love you."
At first you may want to present each item one after another as more of a checklist, or even tweak a few to better fit your relationship with them. Either way, as time goes on it will become habit to communicate these positive thoughts to your children every day, and it's something they'll remember you doing for the rest of their lives.
Victoria Beckham's Favorite Pair of Pants Will Make You Re-Think Your Classic Jeans
While plaid trousers might not be pants you think to wear every day, Victoria Beckham slips into hers as often as we do our standard skinny jeans. The designer makes a great case for keeping this style in steady rotation during the holiday season. The pattern is subtly festive, its shades are neutral, so they match perfectly with Victoria's of-the-moment glove pumps, and she created a matching coat to achieve a sophisticated suit look.
While Victoria first debuted her tartan slacks in New York, now she's wearing them in London, proving they're a versatile addition to any woman's wardrobe - no matter where she lives or where she is going. Scroll to see Victoria's two latest moments in plaid, then shop similar silhouettes.

Going Halfsies: Half Marathon
When you're ready for the challenge of running 13.1 miles, the half marathon begins to call your name. Upping your mileage to cover this much ground requires careful planning.
- This 16-week half-marathon training schedule for beginners starts with weekly mileage of just under 10 and builds up to 25 miles in seven days, before tapering before the race. If you already run on a regular basis, this six-week half-marathon plan should get you to the finish line. - When training for a marathon, it's important to build mileage up gradually. Give yourself 18 weeks to complete this training schedule for your first marathon, and be sure to make these running stretches a part of your training routine.
- Running 26.2 miles is no joke; you'll need to make sure that your body is fueled properly every step of the way. Follow Olympic marathoner Ryan Hall's tips on what to eat when running a marathon.
- It's hard to anticipate what the course will be like, but these insider tips will have you running like a pro. For instance, did you know you should stay off your feet in the days leading up to the race?
- Because this may be the biggest race you ever do, follow these tips on how to enjoy running 26.2 miles, while avoiding the biggest race-day mistakes runners make.
Trying It All: Sprint Triathlon

- If biking or swimming is new to you, then definitely check out why you should pick up a cycling habit, as well as our tips for swimming your first mile.

No Star Has Ever Pulled a Style Switch-Up Like Selena Gomez
It takes a lot of confidence to completely revamp your look, especially when you're in the public eye. Selena Gomez knows a thing or two about that. The performer has managed to successfully define her style from the street to the red carpet to the stage, but as they say, "it takes a village." Selena credits much of her transformation to stylist Kate Young, who she began working with in 2015 while promoting her Revival tour.
Before that, she developed a relationship with Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière, and he's dressed her for many events. Selena has become a face of the brand, repping her favorite fashion house at the Met Gala and beyond. In 22 photos, you can see how she's held onto her sex appeal but embraced sophistication, all while managing to keep her feet firmly planted on the ground. Of course, it helps when you're rocking Louis Vuitton's sturdy platform boots.
J.K. Rowling Says This Theory About Draco Malfoy Isn't True but We're Skeptical
Most Harry Potter fans can agree that Draco Malfoy is a bully who deserves zero sympathy from anyone. While most of his behavior is inexcusable, one theory about the sixth and seventh books might make you reconsider your thoughts on Draco and the Malfoy family. The theory suggests that as a form of punishment ordered by Voldemort, Draco was bitten and became a werewolf.
This isn't a new theory, but recently resurfaced in an Imgur post and still exists on the website Draco Malfoy Is a Werewolf. It states that Draco was bitten by Fenrir Greyback after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix takes place because of Lucius' mistakes. Lucius failed to retrieve the prophecy and previously let one of Voldemort's horcruxes get destroyed in the second book. As Remus Lupin shares in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Greyback is often used by Voldemort to punish his enemies by letting him bite children and turn them into werewolves. In the same book, Harry starts to notice how pale and different Draco acts. He presumes to think it's because Draco is now a death eater, but with the theory in mind, it's actually because he's a werewolf. It's also why Draco has a close relationship with Severus Snape, as only he could brew the Wolfsbane potion for Draco.
Since Draco was no longer a true pure-blood, it also explains why the Malfoy's end up betraying Voldemort in the last book and leaving him behind. They could no longer abide by and fight for pure-bloods because of Draco, so they saw no reason to continue supporting Voldemort.
Though this theory is severely convincing, J.K. Rowling took to Twitter to dispel it in 2015. Someone tweeted at Rowling the question of whether Draco was a werewolf and Rowling said she hadn't seen it - and that it wasn't true. You can see it below.
I've never seen that one before. Draco definitely isn't a werewolf (and Snape's not a vampire). https://t.co/TSliADJvyi
- J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) October 2, 2015
Even though Rowling has essentially shut down this theory, we're still hoping it was true. It would make up for Draco's attitude towards Harry and everyone else.
A Ton of Ready-to-Eat Chicken Was Just Recalled - 2 Million Pounds, to Be Exact
You might want to check your food labels before relying on one of your tried-and-true chicken recipes for dinner tonight. National Steak and Poultry just issued a recall on nearly 2 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken that have the potential to be undercooked. The recall originally included 17,439 pounds of chicken per its initial release on Nov. 23, 2016, but the most recent update expanded that total to include an additional 1.9 million pounds of product.
This recall includes a variety of ready-made meat products, from boneless, skinless chicken strips and breasts to diced and cubed chicken goods from popular brands like Hormel. Any of these items that were produced between Aug. 20 and Nov. 30, 2016, should be immediately thrown away. It has officially been labeled as a Class-1 recall, meaning that it is "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."
Check out the full list of affected products on the USDA website, and be sure to chuck your ready-made chicken in the garbage if there's a chance it is part of the recall.
