8 Foolproof Ways to Get Better Skin in 2017

Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Benjamine Stone

Make 2017 the year you get a clean slate - and by that, we mean a flawless face and the perfect canvas for makeup. Here, we have rounded up the products POPSUGAR beauty editors truly love and exactly how we use them.

1. Eat your way to clear skin. Your skin is technically your largest organ, so if you're eating something that is making it inflamed, it will show via acne, redness, or other irritations. Following a clean, balanced diet (like this one!) can change everything from your face's texture to the appearance (or disappearance) of fine lines and pimples.

2. Sleep on a silk pillowcase. Not only will it make your blow-dry last longer, but it also helps reduce the chance of forming wrinkles. Since your face is less smushed and roughed up by a scratchy pillowcase, everything stays smoother for those hours of slumber. Try Slip Silk Pillowcase ($79) - Jen Atkin is a fan!

3. Use face oil. It doesn't matter if you have oily skin, because oil fights oil. And if you have dry skin, even better. Choose a face oil that feels and smells amazing to you (we like this holistic one from Tata Harper ($48)), and make it part of your nightly routine. The aromatherapy benefits are just a bonus.

4. Speaking of oil, try double cleansing. This ritual is the best way to ensure you go to bed with a clean yet hydrated face. Start by massaging a cleansing oil, such as Shu Uemura Anti-Oxi Cleansing Oil ($77), into dry skin. Add water and rise. Follow with a milky face wash, such as Chanel Lait Confort Creamy Cleansing Milk ($45). After, your skin will feel like butter, and there will be zero traces of smudged eyeliner or mascara.

5. Do a Korean beauty eye mask. K-beauty innovations tend to be ahead of the curve when it comes to unique textures - like gels or under-eye patches. We tested six of them to report back on the ones that actually work. Find the best one for you as well as concealer, and start loving your eye area again.

6. Try an at-home peel. One of the most effective ways to get rid of dull skin is a glycolic peel. There is no actual peeling involved. It's more like a clear "mask" that stings a bit, and then you wash it off. These are often done during facials, but as long as you test the product on a place like your arm to make sure you are not allergic, they are safe to do while you're watching Netflix in sweats. We like these Cane and Austin peel pads, which instantly give you a smoother face.

7. Wear SPF every day, even in the Winter. But actually do it! UV rays make skin more sensitive, according to top NYC dermatologist Dr. Amy Wechsler. And the sun can damage your skin, even when it's cold outside. Protect your skin now, and it will age better. Try Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 ($68), which doesn't have that telltale sunscreen scent and acts like a primer for makeup.

8. Stop picking your face! You are likely getting scars, and we bet this was also your resolution last year. Make it work in 2017 by following this guide, which breaks down the psychology behind why we pick our faces and offers actionable techniques on how to stop. Now, back away from that magnifying mirror.

With Just 2 Words, Christian Siriano Will Convince You to Wear More Color

If you've followed Christian Siriano's career, you know his designs aren't subtle. Feathered dresses frequently grace his runway, jumpsuits feature eye-catching prints, and his first-ever bridal collection? Of course it included a splash of pink. Even for his holiday window display - which can be seen at Hershey's Chocolate World in Times Square - Christian's creations are once again glam, as sketches of billowing dresses dance down the street.

Chatting with Christian about his new, festive gig, we couldn't help but ask about another big one on the horizon: award season. It's this time of year when his stuff steals the spotlight, so, naturally, we pressed him for any inside scoop.

"This season, stylists are requesting - for any actress that they [work with] - a lot of color and a lot of white," he said. "Nobody wants black. So, we'll see."

Color and white are two things Christian does exceptionally well - so much so, he even shared advice on how noncelebs can pull off vibrant hues.

"If you don't wear color, it's one of those things like, why not?" Christian asked. "What's holding you back? I think one of the biggest things in fashion is that you have to play and have fun. It should never be too serious."

So the next time you debate wearing color, just repeat Christian's two wise words: why not? For now, though, scroll through to see the Spring and Fall '17 we hope to see on the red carpet.

These Peeks of Jason Momoa as Aquaman Prove That He's the Perfect Casting Choice

In case his crazy Justice League workout regimen or the first look behind the scenes didn't convince you that Jason Momoa is perfect for the role of DC Comics' Aquaman (a trident-wielding half-god also known as Arthur Curry), we've rounded up all the peeks we've gotten at the highly anticipated Atlantian hero. Momoa's hulking stature, no-nonsense gaze, and ability to rock tattoos lend him the perfect look for embodying director Zack Snyder's new take on the beloved hero, and the actor's pioneering attitude and respect for the sea mean that he's inwardly suited for the role also.

Both interviews with Momoa and social media snaps about about his new role reveal that he's ridiculously excited to pick up Aquaman's trident - especially because he'll be able to portray his Polynesian heritage in the role. Check out these incredible moments from the filming of Justice League: Part One and Aquaman's brief appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Once you see how powerful, passionate, and intimidating Momoa appears in the role, you'll barely be able to wait for next year's Justice League premiere! (If that is indeed the case, then here are all the shots you need of him from the Justice League trailer.)

The Story of This Dog Rescued From a Meat Farm Will Absolutely Stun You

Image Source: Facebook user The San Francisco SPCA

In mid-February 2016, Humane Society International was able to shut down a Korean dog-meat farm - cold, exposed to the elements, and stuck in cages for their entire lives, the dogs who were rescued had never experienced human kindness. Sixty-four of them were transported to the San Francisco SPCA to begin anew, but what happened when they arrived stateside was unlike anything rescuers had ever expected.

From Cage To Couch: Casey's Story

One of the rescues, a Golden Retriever named Casey, had a much different reaction to her newfound freedom than any of the other meat farm rescues. While her furry peers were frightened and unsure about life outside a tiny cage, Casey responded well to humans, leashed walks, and even a regimented bathroom schedule. Rescuers at the SFSPCA realized that Casey had likely been somebody's pet before ending up at the Korean meat farm. They weren't sure how she ended up being raised for slaughter, but Casey's new handlers were completely stunned - and so are we - by her sweet temperament and playful attitude despite everything she'd been through.

You can read Casey's full (mostly happy!) story in the above Imgur gallery, then keep up with the rest of the Korean pups and their rehabilitation journey on the SPCA's Facebook page.

How This Brave 5-Year-Old Battling Leukemia Became a Superhero For a Day

Kaheem, a 5-year-old boy from Maryland who is currently battling leukemia, wanted to help people just like his favorite superheros. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic helped make his superhero wish come true by setting up a special day for Kaheem to use his superpowers for good.

On Dec. 16, Fox 5 news was there to capture #SuperKaheem's heroic day as he went around the nation's capital completing missions, which included: saving Santa Claus, who was stuck on a Ferris wheel, preventing the Grinch from stealing all the presents at The National Theater, and, finally, rescuing the DC sports mascots from a second floor balcony with the help of DC firefighters.

Kaheem's courageous spirit earned him a shout-out from Vice President Joe Biden, Speaker Paul Ryan, and even The Rock. Keep reading to check out what they each had to say, and then watch Kaheem's heartwarming journey to save DC ahead.

9 Fashion Phrases to Ban From Your Vocabulary Before the New Year

You likely took the SATs, are well-read, and know full definitions for plenty of "big" words. Yet you find yourself relying on the same old sayings - chic, statement-making, stylish, etc. - when describing an item or outfit. Admittedly, the fashion world has addicting little go-tos, and while editors are guilty as well, we're on a mission to leave 'em all in 2016. Read on for the full list of words and phrases to (at least try to) ban, then brush up on style terms to know before the New Year.

5 Things I Absolutely Love About My "Mom Bod"

There's a lot about my body that makes it look like it's straight out of a science-fiction movie. Despite working out four days a week and eating healthy(ish), having three kids has wreaked a havoc that is going to require a scalpel, a chainsaw, and a fairy godmother to undo.

I keep waiting for my prebaby body to bounce back, but my youngest is now five and all that's been bouncing is my belly, like a bowl full of very fleshy jelly. My stomach will forever be frozen in an 18-weeks-pregnant position, though now hanging over a C-section scar. Stretch marks have claimed more territory on my torso than I ever dreamed possible. When I put on my spandex workout pants, it appears as though I'm smuggling an upside-down double stuffed chalupa between my thighs.

But . . . for better or for worse, this mom bod has endured the abuse of carrying and nurturing three children (and OK, maybe some Mexican takeout here and there) as well as 40 years of significant gravitational pull. It's been tattered and torn, and I'm actually pretty proud of what's been capable of, despite what society deems acceptable if not impossible.

So here is a list of my five favorite things about my body because, to borrow one of my favorite quotes, "Mother Teresa didn't walk around complaining about her thighs. She had sh*t to do."

1. My Booty

I challenge you to find a better way to make that backside burn than pushing a double stroller - usually filled with three kids who've just eaten a lot of lunch - here, there, and everywhere. The big cat exhibit at our zoo is at the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. The hill to our neighborhood park is so steep that I see visions of my dead grandma calling me home by the time I reach the top. Beyoncé I am not, but this booty got some bounce.

2. My Biceps

The majority of the world was not built at a child's eye level, but that doesn't stop them from wanting to see it. Picking up my kids to see what's on the top shelf of the pantry, hoisting them off the ground when they fall, carrying them for what seems like days at a time (sometimes two at a time) when they're too tired to walk, rescuing them from the top of the monkey bars . . . the line forms to the left to buy tickets to this gun show.

3. My Boobs

I've always been on the more endowed side of the fence, but after three kids, my John F. Kennedys command some serious respect - well, with a little help, that is, from a supersupportive bra. Let 'em fly free and innocent bystanders could easily be knocked unconscious lest I startle. But the other day I put on my old push-up bra and as I looked straight forward, I could literally see them in the bottom of my peripheral vision. I'm like Jessica Rabbit's older, more conservative sister that prefers yoga pants and a sensible shoe.

4. My Stomach

As I mentioned earlier, I'm a long way from throwing on a two-piece and frolicking around our neighborhood pool. I'm deep in the tankini game and I've come to accept the fact that there's no turning back. However, my stomach makes an amazing pillow and it's my kids' favorite place to rest their sweet heads, which I love. Also, the top pooch makes a handy little resting shelf for when I'm at a party and my arm gets tired from holding my wine glass.

5. My Laugh Lines

Kids are funny, man. I mean . . . REALLY funny. I have never laughed like I have with my kids. I wish I could bottle it up and take it with me everywhere. But for now I'll just have to settle for the deep crinkles on either side of my eyes to constantly remind me, and the rest of the world, that while my body is not model-perfect, I have laughed and loved way more than my fair share.

Fantastic Beasts Gives the Sweetest Nod to Ron and Hermione's Love Story

The following post contains minor spoilers for the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film.

In theaters worldwide, diehard Harry Potter fans couldn't help but count the ways that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them references the original series . . . but one supersweet nod slipped right past many of the most passionate Potterheads. In case you missed it, here's a hint: Newt and Tina's first meeting is extremely similar to Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger's fateful first encounter on the Hogwarts Express.

Did you catch the reference? Just like Hermione introduces herself as "Hermione Granger, and you are?," Newt Scamander introduces himself to Tina in the same fashion. Then, as Hermione points out the dirt smudge on Ron's nose, Newt tries to help Tina with a smudge of mustard on her lip.

So sweet, right? There's no way this connection was an accident! Perhaps helping a new friend with an embarrassing problem is the way all soul mates are destined to meet in the wizarding world.

15 of the Easiest Mexican and Tex-Mex Recipes on the Internet

We get it, you're busy, but that doesn't mean the only way to get your Mexican fix is by standing in line at Chipotle. (Not that we have anything against Chipotle.) If you're in possession of a slow cooker - and really, if you're not, get on it - you're half the way to a satisfying south-of-the-border meal. These 15 recipes, ranging from carnitas to barbacoa to tortilla soup, will get you through your craving and then some.

31 Celebrity Godparents You Had No Idea About

When it comes to choosing godparents, people often pick those closest to them to inspire and provide guidance to their child. So it's no surprise that most celebrity kids end up with very big stars influencing their upbringing. Steven Spielberg is godfather to a pair of huge stars, Drew Barrymore and Gwyneth Paltrow, and Nicole Richie's got two superstar goddads of her own. Michelle Williams's little girl, Matilda Ledger, calls Jake Gyllenhaal and Busy Philipps her honorary parents, while Courteney Cox looked to BFF Jennifer Aniston to take the role of godmother to her daughter, Coco Arquette. See more sets of surprising celebrity godparents, including Elton John, Hugh Grant, and Lady Gaga, when you scroll through now.

5 Throwback '90s Hairstyles You Can DIY With a Modern 2016 Twist

When you look at the Fall 2016 runways - the place countless trends are born - you may feel nostalgic for your middle-school days. Styles from the '90s such as Topsy Turvy ponytails, teased '80s hair, and girlish pigtails are making a comeback.

These old-school trends were reimagined in modern ways. For instance, Preen made us want to embrace scarf headbands, while Prabal Gurung sent his models down the runway with inverted ponytails (re: the Topsy Tail). And Michael Kors showed us pigtails that you'll want to wear IRL.

"As always, everything old is new," said Kerastase consulting hairstylist Matt Fugate. "Everything gets done again in time, but with a new modern-day twist. This is mainly due to social media and the access that people have to get themselves out there. You can play with so many looks from so many eras. My best advice is to have fun with it. Add your own spin on the trends!"

To help you do that, Matt broke down simple steps to take to re-create some of your favorite throwback styles with a modern twist.

This Woman Looks EXACTLY Like Elsa Come to Life

Even though Frozen came out in 2013 (yes . . . really), we're still obsessed with everything about it. It's not just the incredible soundtrack; we can't get enough of the intricate braids and the wintry makeup. We knew we weren't the only ones to have a serious case of Frozen fever (sorry, had to!), but we're really impressed by Brazilian veterinarian Andressa Damiani, who took her love of cartoons - and Elsa in particular - to the next level.

According to The Mirror, Andressa grew up being teased for her doll-like appearance, but once she reached her 20s, she embraced her looks. She now plays up her delicate features and enormous eyes with subtle makeup and contact lenses and almost exclusively wears pastel colors. This has led to complete strangers calling her Elsa in passing.

"I love when people compare me to dolls or Disney's Elsa on the street now," she said. "I really identify with her character."

While you may think this is a little bizarre, Andressa believes that by ditching society's beauty expectations, she's become a stronger person. "Looking like a human doll has helped my self-esteem," she explained. "Feeling pretty and confident is important and not as futile as some may think. I feel pretty this way." Read on to see more photos of her!

These Are the Hot Toys That Sold Out at Every Christmas Since the 1980s

Remember back in the '80s when all you wanted for Christmas was a Cabbage Patch Kid or a talking Teddy Ruxpin, but stinkin' Santa didn't come through for you? Consider it one of the timeless traditions of the holiday season. Every year, there's a toy so popular that Christmas supply and demand renders it impossible for most kids to actually get it under the tree. From Tickle Me Elmo to Tamagotchis, Xbox 360s to the Pokémon craze, there will always be the one that got away.

Check out the most popular toys by year from the early 1980s until now, and before you get too nostalgic, remember that you probably have a kid begging for the two items (one of which is currently going for triple the price on eBay) on the 2016 list. Our hearts go out to you.

Turmeric Is the Hottest Ingredient to Add Into Your DIY Skin Care Routine

If rubbing a bright orange substance on your face makes you feel like Donald Trump, don't worry - what we're about to tell you has nothing to do with politics. The formula we're referring to is the turmeric spice, and it's a buzzy term in the holistic health community right now. The spice hails from India and has traditionally been used in cooking (it's part of the ginger root family). But these days, people are adding it to everything from their smoothies to face masks. We're going to explore the latter since turmeric has many amazing beauty uses.

"Turmeric is an age-old ingredient used for its internal as well as external health-and-beauty-promoting properties," explained Sheetal Rawal, a scientist and founder of brand Apsara. "It has been used in the Indian subcontinent for thousands of years for its natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and color-balancing properties. Currently, it is also gaining quite some fame in the West for its significant antioxidant properties."

This ability to bring down inflammation translates to skin care by minimizing acne or bringing down a rosacea flare-up. You can also rely on it for antiaging benefits. "It is loaded with key vitamins that facilitate important skin renewal processes, such as the creation of collagen," added Adina Grigore, the founder of S.W. Basics.

Barbara Close, founder and CEO of Naturopathica, explained the science behind this: "Extracts from turmeric, known as tetrahydrocurcuminoids, efficiently quench free radicals on the surface of the skin due to their antioxidant properties. This protects against damage from ultraviolet radiation and environmental irritants."

In fact, it is even incorporated into prebridal Indian rituals, during which the bride and groom are massaged with a turmeric-infused, homemade herbal concoction. "Turmeric in this age-old concoction is supposed to bring out the 'hidden glow' of the skin," Rawal shared.

Those with sensitive skin should not fear turmeric just because it's spicy. "It's wonderful for anyone who has supersensitive skin, but even for normal skin types, it really makes the skin look flawless," said Joanna Vargas, celebrity facialist and owner of her eponymous brand. "Make sure you are using pure organic turmeric. Some generic store-bought options contain dyes that can stain your skin after application. This is one ingredient where you must go organic."

If you're still hung up on having an Oompa Loompa face, Grigore has more to add on the matter. "And no, to answer your burning question, it won't dye your skin yellow," she mused. "If you're using it in powder form, just be sure to rinse it off thoroughly!"

This Might Be the Best Way to Tell Your Kids About Santa - and You've Never Heard of It Before

It's never easy, but there are a few poignant ways to tell your curious children the truth about Santa Claus. There's the classic, sweet "Santa is all around us" message about how he's more of an embodiment of the Christmas spirit than a jolly man from the North Pole, but we just discovered a new twist on such a conversation. It's started to circulate on Facebook, it's utter genius, and it's likely a method you've never even considered before. But trust us when we say, that when your kids reach that fateful age, you'll have this conversation ready to go:

In our family, we have a special way of transitioning the kids from receiving from Santa . . . to becoming a Santa. This way, the Santa construct is not a lie that gets discovered, but an unfolding series of good deeds and Christmas spirit.

When they are 6 or 7, whenever you see that dawning suspicion that Santa may not be a material being, that means the child is ready.

I take them out "for coffee" at the local wherever. We get a booth, order our drinks, and the following pronouncement is made:

"You sure have grown an awful lot this year. Not only are you taller, but I can see that your heart has grown, too [point out two to three examples of empathetic behavior, consideration of people's feelings, or good deeds the kid has done in the past year]. In fact, your heart has grown so much that I think you are ready to become a Santa Claus. You probably have noticed that most of the Santas you see are people dressed up like him. Some of your friends might have even told you that there is no Santa. A lot of children think that, because they aren't ready to BE a Santa yet, but YOU ARE."

Then, have your kids tell you the best things about Santa and what he gets for all his trouble [lead the kid from "cookies" to the good feeling of having done something for someone else].

Make sure you maintain the proper conspiratorial tone.

We then have the child choose someone they know – a neighbor, usually. The child's mission is to secretly, deviously, find out something that the person needs, and then provide it, wrap it, deliver it – and never reveal to the target where it came from. Being a Santa isn't about getting credit, you see. It's unselfish giving.

Pretty incredible, right? Not only does this keep the magic of Santa alive without kids feeling as if they've been told a lie, but it has the added benefit of giving them a practical way to encapsulate the same values of generosity and selflessness. Plus, it rather neatly clears up all those pesky rumors they likely hear at school or on social media.

Read the whole concept here, which includes a pretty touching example of how one kid's first mission as a Santa was to give a pair of slippers to the "horrible witch lady" around the corner. It also explains how older siblings can help "induct" younger kids into the secret of being Santa.

Nicole Kidman on How Keith Urban Helped Her After Her Father's Sudden Death: "He Literally Picked Me Up"

Nicole Kidman opened up about life, love, and family during a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning. In the segment, the Lion actress recalled how her husband, Keith Urban, helped her through her father Dr. Antony Kidman's sudden death in 2014. "I called him screaming and crying," she explained. "And he was about to go on stage. And he walked off stage and he got on a plane - he had just gotten there. He flew six hours and he was right back there. And he literally picked me up and pretty much carried me through the next two weeks." She also added that Keith and their daughters, Faith Margaret, 5, and Sunday Rose, 8, were a huge support system during that difficult time. "I had my children going, 'It's gonna be all right, Momma,'" she said. "It's interesting the way children view things, 'cause they're like, 'You still got your mommy.'"

On the topic of motherhood, the 49-year-old actress couldn't help but get emotional when the reporter, Tracy Smith, asked her what impression she would like to leave on the world. "I would just like to - it makes me sad - I would just like to be here long enough to have my children grow up and for me to see them thriving," she said through teary eyes. "That's all I ask. And that my husband and I are with each other. I'm an older mother, so, you know . . . It's that prayer of, 'Gosh, let me be here.'"

30 Moms Who Don't Care What You Think About Them Kissing Their Child on the Lips

A few months ago, Victoria Beckham was deemed "inappropriate" for kissing her daughter Harper on the lips. Next was Hilary Duff, who was reamed in the comments of her sweet Instagram photo with her son Luca for sharing a smooch on the lips at Disneyland. Regardless of your personal feelings on the matter, there are plenty of moms and kids out there who choose to show affection and love by kissing on the lips - whatever's right for you is right for you, but for these moms and their little ones, a peck on the mouth is exactly right.

Scroll through for 30 moms who really don't care what you think about them choosing to kiss their child on the lips (because honestly, it's none of your damn business what they do).

How to Eat If You're Trying to Lose Weight, According to a Dietitian

Like most people trying to lose weight, I listened to the experts. Instead of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I started scheduling meals and snacks so I was eating five or six times a day. This worked out to noshing on something every couple hours - 7 a.m. breakfast, 9 a.m. snack, 12 p.m. lunch, 3 p.m. snack, 5:30 p.m. dinner, and sometimes a late-night snack. The purpose was to ensure my hunger was satiated to prevent feeling so famished at each meal that I'd overeat. But then I realized I was eating all day long and never feeling hungry. I was also not losing weight. I was watching the clock instead of listening to my body. So which is better?

When I asked certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD of Whole Health Nutrition to answer that question, she said, "It's better to eat when you are hungry. This is the concept of mindful eating." Every time you go to put something in your mouth, ask yourself if you are hungry.

She also adds that it's important to know what hunger is, since feeling hungry is important for weight loss. "Some people have stomach growling, some have salivation and increased food thought." Being aware of the hunger scale will help you decide when it's time to eat. You want to eat when you're at about a three on the hunger scale, feeling hungry with a growling belly. And the important thing here is to eat enough until you're at about a six on the hunger scale, where you feel satisfied but not stuffed or tired from eating too much.

Eating when you're hungry and eating just enough to feel satiated is the key. So instead of watching the clock and eating exactly at certain times of the day, eat when your body tells you it's ready to eat. That might mean eating three times a day, and that might mean eating six times a day.

Leslie does say that, "I think if you are a person who is a meal skipper or someone who doesn't really feel that hungry, setting times is a good idea." Some people forget to eat because they're so busy, or their work schedule only allows them to take breaks at certain times, so for these instances, it's important to schedule snacks and meals. But overall, if you're schedule allows for it, "go for the hunger/mindful eating approach."

Denzel Washington Dramatically Reading Greeting Cards Is the Cherry on Top of a Stupid Year

Everyone is getting ready to put 2016 behind them, but there are still a few days left to save what was otherwise a bumpy 12 months. And that's exactly what Denzel Washington did when he stopped by The Tonight Show on Dec. 19. In addition to opening up about his recent reunion with his childhood librarian for her 99th birthday, the Fences actor did a dramatic reading of greeting cards. Not only did he cry and lay out in his chair, but he also couldn't stop giggling. He's just the best.

How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes With Household Ingredients

We all know that it's bad for us to use dirty makeup brushes on our skin - come on, you wash your face twice a day, but how often do you actually give your tools the same kind of love? If you've been skipping because you're worried about hurting your brushes, we've got an easy DIY way to clean them all up safely. And don't forget to find the makeup brush that's right for you too!

Ingredients:

Olive oil
Antibacterial soap

Steps:

Step 1: Mix two parts antibacterial dish soap to one part of the extra-virgin olive oil on a clean plate (don't use paper plate, as the oil will seep through).

Step 2: Grab your first brush and wet it slightly with lukewarm water. Make sure the brush stays bristle-side down throughout the entire process. If water gets into the ferrule (the middle tube part that holds everything together) of the brush, it can loosen the glue, causing the bristles to fall out.

Step 3: Dip the damp brush into the soap mixture and coat it thoroughly. Next, work the mixture into the bristles using the palm of your hand and fingers. Continue until the soapy residue is makeup free.

Step 4: Rinse the brushes under lukewarm water until no soap runs from the bristles.

Step 5: Roll a dish towel like you would a yoga mat, and drape a paper towel over it so that most of the paper towel hangs off. (The paper towel should look like a slide coming down from the dish towel). Next, arrange the brush so the top of the handle sits on top of the towel, pitching the rest of the brush down onto the paper towel. This will allow your brushes to dry on a slant, while keeping moisture away from the ferrule.

Repeat with remaining brushes. Some make take two washings to get completely clean, depending on the amount of residue left behind. Allow them to dry overnight, and repeat about once a month.

17 Reasons I Am an Eternal Slave to My Long Hair

You all know the hashtag #LongHairDontCare. Well, for me, the saying is so much more than a fun rhyme to say and tweet - it's a life motto. There was a time in my life when my mane was just another thing to experiment with, as inconsequential as painting your toenails a different color every week. However, as I grew older, it became startlingly clear that my hair is not a plaything, but more like another limb - as consequential as trimming your arm for a "new look"!

I've generally had long hair throughout my whole life. There were a few periods here and there when I decided to switch it up, fleeting moments of curiosity that were immediately followed by deep regret. My senior year of high school - a very important year in one's life - I cut it so short that my shoulders would get breezy. Believe me, that was the least of my agony. The worst was feeling like a human mushroom for at least four months of my life.

Then there was that time during my punk phase when I tried out the rock 'n' roll mullet. Hey, Scarlett Johansson made the same mistake once, so I'm in good company. And just like any momentous life lesson, a mullet taught me to never go down that road ever again.

But then, just two years ago, I did it again. I felt the urge to subject myself to that rotating chair and have some grown man with better eyebrows than me chop it off. This time, it was only a few inches, and afterward, my length was still technically considered medium-long, but I still felt that excruciating pang of regret, and that's when it was solidified. I have to have long hair. And I mean a mermaid mane that goes way past my chest, Miley Cyrus's look from her "Party in the U.S.A" days.

I don't care if it's 104 degrees and humid out. I don't care that my strands regularly get caught on things - dress zippers, random cracks in the wall, underneath my purse straps. I don't care that it takes an inordinate amount of time to dry. I don't care that having the same hairstyle is undeniably boring. I am a slave to my long locks, and I will do whatever it takes to make my master happy.

On the upside, having long hair has its benefits. Here are 17 reasons why I'll always live by #LongHairDontCare.

Here's How Much You Need to Exercise If You Sit at a Desk All Day, According to Science

The perils of sitting all day aren't good. Researchers have shown that remaining stationary for extended periods of time (like at your 9-to-5 desk job) can be detrimental to your health. While exercise is a big part of offsetting the harmful effects of sitting, it was unclear how many gym sessions were needed to help - until now.

A new study, published in The Lancet, shows the ideal formula for counteracting the negative effects of a sedentary job. Instead of a fixed number of hours spent exercising, the ratio depends on how much you sit: people who work a typical eight-hour day should spend at least one hour each day moving; if you sit six hours a day, you should spend half an hour exercising. The research also indicated that the exercise doesn't have to be all at once - or rigorous. It can be spread throughout the day and be as simple as walking.

The team behind the study analyzed data from a pool of a million adults over the age of 45 in Western Europe, the United States, and Australia. Using previous data, the researchers examined data from 16 published studies and used it to determine how much exercise is required to compensate for sitting. Their recommended daily exercise goal is higher than previous advice but not necessarily less attainable, given it can be completed throughout the day.

Fitting in an hour of exercise a day sounds especially daunting if you have a desk job, but there are plenty of workouts you can complete before and after work. Even if it means taking a 10-minute walk during lunch, your body will thank you in the long run.

Liam Neeson Takes On His Most Intense, Terrifying Role Yet: Santa Claus

There are a few lyrics in "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" that have always been vaguely creepy ("He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake"), but we never realized their full potential for freaking us out until Liam Neeson came along. The Northern Irish actor is known for his roles in terrifying thrillers like Taken and Love Actually (hey, it depends on who you ask), so he decided to put his particular set of skills to good use during an audition for a mall Santa Claus on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Between his trademark growl and sinister frown, Liam turns Santa (aka "an eye in the sky bringing swift judgment") into Krampus-approved nightmare material. Watch at your own risk, Christmas-lovers.
