5 Things You Should Try to Say to Your Child Every Single Day
There are no doubt hundreds of exchanges between you and your child each day including everything from morning routine encouragement, yelling at them to pick up their toys, praising the art they brought home from school, and reading bedtime stories together. With each day, the exchanges will change slightly, but there is one routine exchange you should strive to have with your child every single day - a positive one that will remind them how appreciated, admired, and loved they are, always.
These are five things you should say to your child every single day, whether they be scattered throughout or said in one fell swoop before bed:
- Something they did that you're proud of.
- Something you know they tried their best at.
- Something you loved doing with them.
- Something they said that made you laugh.
- And no matter how you choose to say it: "I love you."
At first you may want to present each item one after another as more of a checklist, or even tweak a few to better fit your relationship with them. Either way, as time goes on it will become habit to communicate these positive thoughts to your children every day, and it's something they'll remember you doing for the rest of their lives.

Ryan Reynolds in Dad Mode Will Make You Even More Attracted to Him
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's adorable daughters made their first official public appearance on Dec. 15 when their dad was honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in LA. Even though the Deadpool actor has been pretty open (sometimes too open) about parenting on social media, the ceremony was the first time we've actually seen him in dad mode - and let's just say, we're loving it. Aside from sharing some loving glances with his wife, he also gave a shout-out to his sweet little family in his speech, telling Blake, "You've given me two of the most incredible children I've ever hoped to have. . . . You made me the father of my dreams when I thought I only had fun uncle potential." Here's hoping the two will share more sweet family photos in the future, because their daughters are just too precious! See some of the doting dad's best moments from the event here.

Tyler Florence's Hack Will Forever Change the Way You Make Mashed Potatoes
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Nicole Perry
Food Network chef Tyler Florence shared his mashed potatoes recipe with us, and I immediately had to try it. Traditionally, potatoes are cooked in water before being mashed together with butter and cream (or milk). However, Tyler suggests cooking the potatoes in the cream itself, so no potato-y flavor is lost. He explains, "Potatoes have a really delicate, beautiful minerality to their flavor profile, and when you cook potatoes in water and you pour that water down the drain, you've extracted all the flavor of the potato. So what I do with mashed potatoes - because you finish them with cream and butter anyway, right? - is I'll take that same cream and butter and add that to the potatoes and cook the potatoes in cream and butter." Would that actually work? Would it actually taste good? I had to find out.

As Tyler instructed, I added "cold, peeled, chopped potatoes, cream, butter, and olive oil" to a pan. He also told us, "I like garlic. I like sage and rosemary flavor combinations, and a little bit of thyme." To my pot of 3 pounds of potatoes, I added enough half and half to just barely cover the potatoes. Frankly, I was scared about using straight cream, which is why I deviated slightly from his instruction. I then added about 3 tablespoons of salted butter and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. I added a few cloves of peeled garlic and half a bunch each of sage, rosemary, and thyme. I also included a significant amount of salt (at least a teaspoon) so the potatoes could absorb some of the flavor while cooking. I covered the pot and allowed it to simmer on medium until the potatoes became fork tender, about 20 minutes. The aroma in my kitchen was unbelievable.

Here's what Tyler told us to do next: "When the potatoes are tender, I put a bowl on the counter and a colander inside that bowl. I pour the potatoes through the colander, and the cream will collect on the bottom. Then I'll put the potatoes back into the pot and take the potato-infused garlic cream and fold that back into the potatoes, and it's the most incredible flavor profile. It's the best mashed potato you'll ever taste in your entire life." And so, I did just that. I drained the potatoes, collecting the rich liquid while discarding the herb stems. I then mashed the potatoes, adding back in the liquid until I created velvety smooth mashed potatoes with little specks of garlic and herbs. I salted and peppered to taste and served up with my lemon-garlic-parsley roast turkey and gravy. These mashed potatoes are pure heaven. I can now agree with Tyler's affirmation; they really are the best mashed potatoes I've ever tasted in my entire life. And even though I was scared it would be a huge flop, I'm never going back to any other method again.

Gina Rodriguez proclaimed her love for her boyfriend, actor and model Joe LoCicero, on Twitter a few days after their first public appearance at the Women's Honors gala. The happy couple looked stunning together on the red carpet, and the Tweet confirms that the actors have been dating for almost five months.

You might recognize Joe from Gina's show Jane the Virgin, where he plays the hilarious Don Quijote stripper that shows up to Gina's classroom while she's teaching in Chapter Thirty-Nine. It's unclear if the popular show is how the sweet couple met, but we're thrilled to see Gina so happy.
These Peeks of Jason Momoa as Aquaman Prove That He's the Perfect Casting Choice
In case his crazy Justice League workout regimen or the first look behind the scenes didn't convince you that Jason Momoa is perfect for the role of DC Comics' Aquaman (a trident-wielding half-god also known as Arthur Curry), we've rounded up all the peeks we've gotten at the highly anticipated Atlantian hero. Momoa's hulking stature, no-nonsense gaze, and ability to rock tattoos lend him the perfect look for embodying director Zack Snyder's new take on the beloved hero, and the actor's pioneering attitude and respect for the sea mean that he's inwardly suited for the role also.
Both interviews with Momoa and social media snaps about about his new role reveal that he's ridiculously excited to pick up Aquaman's trident - especially because he'll be able to portray his Polynesian heritage in the role. Check out these incredible moments from the filming of Justice League: Part One and Aquaman's brief appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Try Solving This Math Puzzle That Is Making People Go Crazy on Facebook
Ever wanted to tear your hair out and question everything you've ever learned about math? Well, thanks to the website Brain Dare, you can. The company recently posted a math puzzle to its Facebook page that's made the internet divide into two categories based on answers.
Take a look at the puzzle below and determine your own answer.
Did you get 40? Or 96? Though Brain Dare states that 96 is the correct answer, other users are claiming that both can be correct. Brain Dare figured out its answer with multiplication. To begin, you multiply the first number by the second number. For example, 1 x 4 = 4. Then, add that result to the first number and you'll arrive at the answer after the equal sign; for the first line it's 5.
But some people arrived at the answer 40 sans multiplication. Instead, they just added the answer of the first line (5) to the next one. So, 5 + 2 = 7. Add the 5 in the previous answer and you'll get to the answer 12. If you follow it all the way through, you'll arrive at 40.
People in the comments are arguing about which answer is actually right. Some just want Brain Dare to acknowledge that math puzzles such as these can have two answers. The puzzle is clearly extremely popular, considering the post has more than 2,000 reactions, 7,000 comments, and 2,000 shares. At the POPSUGAR offices, we're also torn and finding these two answers as well.
If you want to drive yourself crazy with another brain teaser, try this one involving fruit from a few months ago.

Hands Off! Are You Overtouched?
Before becoming a mom, I was never much of a cuddler. I like my personal space, and I really appreciate alone time. Of course, both of those things are pretty much out the window now that I have two small children, both of whom seem to prefer to have some part of their bodies touching me at all times (my investment in a huge sectional couch and king-sized bed obviously didn't make an impression on the little wallowers).
Truth be told, most of the time, despite my natural aversion to extended physical contact, I love cuddling with my kids as much as they do. Now that they're 2 and 5, I know that the days of rocking a wet-haired, sweet-smelling little one to sleep are limited. Before I know it, they'll be asking me to leave their rooms and shut the doors behind me at night, telling me to move to the other side of the couch during family movie night. Most of the time, I'm happy to soak up every minute of this physically overwhelming stage. But, at the end of the day, I'd also prefer if my husband kept his hands off me. Thanks to our adorable children, I'm totally touched out.
The phenomenon of moms being touched out or overtouched seems to be fairly common among my friends, all of whom love their spouses but just can't stand to cuddle with them after a day of carrying infants and toddlers around, changing kiddie clothes and diapers, and offering up our laps as the most comfortable seat in the house. The feeling can be recognized fairly easily: when your husband comes near you for a kiss, a hug, or an extended snuggle, even though your mind says yes, your body? It says hell no, closed for business.
Because my husband, like most men, shows love through physical touch, my post-motherhood distaste for it hasn't always been easy on our marriage. He understands that after a full day with our kids, my touch limit has been way exceeded, but who wants a wife who prefers a pillow barrier to a spooning session before bed? Of course it hurts his feelings, and it frustrates us both that me being touched so much and him being touched so little means that neither of our physical needs are being met.
We've found a few ways to deal with the conflict between his desire for closeness and my desire to put a impenetrable plastic bubble around my body. He'll take the kids when he gets home from work and let me hide in our room for an hour to recenter myself. He'll take bedtime duty with our little guy, who still prefers an extended cuddle session before he'll submit to sleep, while I put our older, less physically demanding daughter to bed. We try to schedule a few hours of alone time together each week, no kids allowed, to reconnect. We talk it out and remind each other that our relationship is strong, even if our cuddle game is not.

The Most Shocking Beauty Makeover of the Year Unexpectedly Came From Leo Messi - and His Blond Hair
No, this wasn't a prank. And no, it wasn't a wig. Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi actually went blond back in July 2016. After his devastating loss in the Copa America Centenario in June, a few legal issues, and a subsequent much-needed vacation with his longtime girlfriend in Ibiza, the forward for FC Barcelona showed up for the team's training in England sporting a totally different look - he looked so different, we wondered if he had trouble getting through security.
Leo was not the first celebrity to go blond after Copa America wrapped up. In June, James Rodriguez stepped out in Miami with platinum strands that didn't even make it to his birthday just a few weeks later. Though Leo changed his mind about his new look pretty quickly, too, we will never forget his sudden 2016 makeover. Keep reading to see more photos of Leo's blond hair.
Denzel Washington Has the Sweetest Reunion With His Childhood Librarian For Her 99th Birthday
When you think about celebrities who frequently make dreams come true, people like Denzel Washington don't usually come to mind. While we're used to seeing the likes of Chris Pratt and Justin Bieber grant wishes left and right, actors like Denzel are much more old school and private and stay under the radar, except when they make amazing movies. This simple fact is what made his recent reunion with his childhood librarian that much sweeter. Connie Mauro worked at Mount Vernon Public Library in New York for nearly 50 years, and while she must have come across hundreds of children throughout her career, she never forgot giving one special 7-year-old his very first library card: Denzel. While gearing up to celebrate her 99th birthday, staff members at Atria Johnson Ferry in Marietta, GA, the assisted living facility where Connie currently lives, decided to reach out to Denzel to see if they could organize a reunion.
Due to the Fences actor's busy schedule, he unfortunately wasn't able to make it to Connie's party, but he did call her to wish her a happy birthday. "You were the cutest kid! I loved you," Connie told him over the phone. "You were my special library boy." Denzel shared in her affections, responding, "You don't know how much you helped me. You helped me so much. I'm gonna come and see you. So, Connie, happy birthday to you - what are you now? 29? 30?" The star then kept his word, visiting "Miss Connie" at her home in early December. Brooke Munson, executive director of Atria Johnson Ferry, said, "It was like they never missed a beat. He was funny and endearing, constantly cracking jokes." The pair chatted for over an hour and a half, and Connie even gifted Denzel with a blue scarf she knit. Before parting ways, Denzel assured her he would be back to see her again. These two are our new favorite celebrity BFFs.

This Is Exactly What You Need to Eat For Breakfast to Lose Weight
Did you know you can use the first meal of the day as a tool to lose weight? Want to know how? We've enlisted the expertise of two nutritionists - Stephanie Clarke, RD, and Willow Jarosh, RD, of C&J Nutrition - to share the perfect equation for how to make a scrumptious and satisfying breakfast that will help you lose weight. Follow their advice below to start seeing results.
Calories
Aim for a range between 300 and 400 calories. If you're trying to lose weight, stick with the 300 to 350 range, and if you're trying to maintain weight, especially if you're working out, shoot closer to 350 to 400 calories.
Carbs
About 45 to 55 percent of your breakfast calories should be devoted to carbs, which is about 40 to 55 grams of carbs. Skip sugary and overly processed foods or those made with enriched white flour, and choose whole grains, fruits, and veggies.
Protein
About 15 to 20 percent of your breakfast calorie amount should be protein, which works out to about 13 to 20 grams. Getting enough protein at breakfast is important for keeping you satisfied throughout the morning. And studies have shown that getting at least 20 grams of protein at breakfast may help you lose weight as well. Eggs, dairy products, soy milk, protein powder in smoothies, nuts and seeds, and whole grains are great sources of protein.
29 Hacks For Weight-Loss Success
Fats
Shoot for about 10 to 15 grams, which is about 30 to 35 percent of your total breakfast calories. Instead of saturated fats like bacon and cheese, go for monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) like olive oil, nuts and seeds and the butters made from them, and avocado.
Fiber
Aim for about 25 percent of your recommended daily total of 25 grams per day. That works out to about six grams, but it's OK to go above that, as long as it doesn't bother your digestive system. Berries, pears, apples, greens and other veggies, nuts, seeds, and whole grains can help you reach that goal.
Sugars
If you follow the equation for carbs above, then you won't have to worry about going overboard on sugars, especially if you're eating a combination of foods like fruits, whole grains, and dairy products. But for a ballpark number to keep in mind, stick to 36 grams or fewer. And when it comes to added sugar, try not to exceed six grams - that's about 1.5 teaspoons' worth of any sweetener (white sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, or agave).
Timing
Ideally you should eat breakfast within 30 to 60 minutes of waking up. If you're not keen on eating anything big first thing, split this meal up into two parts, having something light close to waking up and the other half about an hour and a half later. This also works well if you're a morning exerciser and prefer not to have a full stomach while you work out. If you're exercising, you can aim to have the more carbohydrate-based portion of your breakfast (fruit, toast, etc.) prior to working out and the more protein-centric portion afterward.
A Few Examples of Perfect Breakfasts
- Steel Cut Oats With Fruit and Nuts: Steel cut oats not only have more fiber than an equal amount of rolled oats, but they also have more protein since you're eating more of the original grain. Cook one-half cup steel cut oats in a mixture of one-half cup water and one-half cup unsweetened soy milk. Top with one-half cup blueberries, one tablespoon chopped walnuts, and one teaspoon drizzle of maple syrup.

Breakfast Mistakes to Avoid
- Skipping out: When you sleep, your body slows down while you're not eating. So when you wake up, if you don't break the fast (yup, that's where the name comes from), your body will burn calories slowly. To jump-start your metabolism and get your body burning calories, you need to eat. Not fueling up also deprives your brain of glucose, which is why you feel foggy-headed and cranky. Think of breakfast as an opportunity to get your fill of valuable nutrients such as calcium, iron, and vitamin C.
- Skimping: You know skipping breakfast entirely is a no-no, but not eating enough will also backfire. It'll leave you feeling hungry soon after eating, which will cause you to need more food and can translate to more calories consumed over the course of the entire day. Stick to the formula above, and you'll not only feel satisfied longer, but you'll also have more energy for the workouts that can make you drop pounds even faster.
- Imbalanced meal: Leaving out a key component of the breakfast formula such as avoiding all carbs or going too heavy, such as having an all-protein meal, means you're not going to get enough satisfaction or nutrition from this first meal. Following the formula above will allow you to eat a balanced meal while also helping you see weight-loss results.

30 of the Hottest Songs From the Early '00s
Back in the early 2000s, we found out about the latest music from MTV's TRL, posted whatever song we were listening to on our AIM away message, and would spend hours trying to re-create the latest looks from Britney Spears's or Christina Aguilera's music videos. Of course, no party in those days was complete without someone bringing over a burned CD of pop and hip-hop jams that they may or may not have downloaded via Napster. Just because we're feeling nostalgic for the early days of the 2000s, we've rounded up some of the biggest party songs from 1999 to 2004. Keep scrolling for the full list, and click the videos to listen!
These Photos Serve No Purpose Other Than to Remind You How Cute John Legend and Baby Luna Are
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen welcomed their beautiful daughter Luna in April, and even though the tiny tot is only 8 months old, she's already managed to destroy hearts everywhere. Between their sweet smiles and their similar facial features, John and Luna are basically twins. Wouldn't you agree?
You Will Love This Rescue Dog's Reaction to His Very First Bed

Facebook's Year-in-Review Video Will Make You Cry in Under a Minute
Facebook just shared its annual video that looks back on the year's many triumphant, funny, and disheartening moments - and how they played out on the social media platform. Facebook debuted the 2016 year-in-review video with a caption that read, "Today, we remember what was on our minds in 2016 and the moments we shared together." The video includes highlights like history being made at the Summer Olympics, Pokémon Go, and NASA's unprecedented look at Jupiter. Many low points, however, also come to mind - namely the Orlando nightclub shooting, the Syrian refugee crisis, the entire United States presidential election, and the loss of many icons like Muhammad Ali, David Bowie, and Prince.
It was an emotional roller coaster of a year, one that Facebook parsed through with grace. Watch the video above.
10 1-Season Wonders That Should Be Brought Back From the Dead
There's nothing worse than getting attached to a TV series only to have it ripped away prematurely. Thanks to reboots like Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and Fuller House, we have renewed hope for some of our favorite shows that were canceled too soon, specifically the poor ones that only got one season. Now that so many shows are being revived in different ways, we feel inclined to make some polite suggestions about how we'd like to see other shows brought back from the graveyard. Ready? Let's do this.

"Bun Dropping" Was the Most Mesmerizing Hair Trend of 2016
We've always envied women who have the ability to grow their hair to seemingly impossible lengths without sacrificing its health, shine, or density. It seems like we're not the only ones. These fortunate women have been catering to legions of fans, showcasing their thick, glossy manes with oddly sexy "bun drop" videos.
The concept is simple: the star of the video is filmed from the back. You see them holding their hair, which has been twisted up into a haphazard chignon. Then, they let go of their updo. In slow motion, we see the coiled bun unfurl, cascading down the model's back until the hair is completely loose and free.
Sometimes the movies are set to music (so the bass drops when the bun does), sometimes not, but no matter what, they're always completely mesmerizing. See for yourself.
Get Stronger Every Day With This 100-Burpee Challenge
I was shocked when I walked into CrossFit and the WOD (workout of the day) said "100 Burpees." I had never done that many in my life at one time, and it did not sound fun. I wasn't even sure I'd be able to do it.
But after having been going to CF five times a week for three months, I was in pretty good shape. And guess what? It didn't suck as much as I thought and only took me about 10 minutes. The coach said this is a great workout to do in your hotel room while traveling or if you're short on time. My heart was pumping, I was dripping sweat, and my muscles felt worked! Now I'm kind of loving the 100-burpee workout!
I realize this isn't something anyone would want to just jump right into, so here is a four-week plan to get you up to the full 100. Aim to do 25 by the end of the first week, 50 by the second week, and so on until you make it all the way to 100. Follow the plan below.
How to Do a Basic Burpee
- Begin standing with the feet hip-distance apart.
- Lower into a crouching squat with your hands on the floor.
- Do a squat thrust by jumping your feet back into a plank position.
- Do one basic push-up, bending the elbows, touching the chest to the floor, and then straightening back to plank.
- Step or jump the feet forward to the hands and come into a squat.
- Do an explosive jump straight up, getting as much height as you can.

7 Interactions With Mall Santas That Have Warmed the Internet's Hearts
The magic of Christmas, though wonderful, unfortunately slips from the grasp of most adults over time. Sure, once you have children of your own the magic comes back in waves, but the hustle and bustle of the holiday season paired with the insane consumerism definitely makes it feel a bit less special than when you were a child. However, there is one person who strives to keep the Christmas cheer alive year after year, and his identity gets taken on by many men with white beards in fuzzy red suits - Santa Claus.
Although many men who dress up as Saint Nick likely experience two months of simply taking one-after-the-other, run-of-the-mill Christmas photos with screaming babies and listening to kids unleash their wish list on them, some Santas go above and beyond the call of duty to be something truly special for the parents and children who visit them.
Read through for the seven mall Santa interactions that made everyone on the internet believe in the magic of Christmas all over again.

It's Not Adriana Lima's Sexiest Dresses That'll Catch Your Eye - It's the Way She Poses in Them
Brazilian model Adriana Lima might have walked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show wearing tiny lingerie for the past 16 years, but in real life, she doesn't always go all out, choosing instead to show off a calculated amount of skin at red carpets, parties, and TV appearances.
More times than none, she opts to show off her muscular legs with a high slit - and we mean high, the kind that involves wearing no undergarments. Other times, she chooses to reveal her rock-hard abs with crop tops and bralettes. And in a few instances, she has walked the red carpet in low-back numbers that show a little more skin as she walks away. Whatever it is, Adriana nails the right balance, still looking elegant. See for yourself by scrolling through her sexiest looks through the past 11 years.

This Will Be the Most Popular Designer Dress of the 2017 Award Season
It's not uncommon for stars to start plucking dresses from the runway as soon as they're debuted. But there has been no collection so exciting to choose from as Dior's Spring 2017 line. Jennifer Lawrence and Bella Hadid have already selected more than one look from designer Maria Grazia Chiuri's debut show for the fashion house. Perhaps it's because these stylish, sensible celebrities like what the clothes stand for: a marriage of feminist phrases on graphic tees with pretty tulle skirts. Every outfit proved that a lady can look girlie, but be strong as hell in her ways.
In 2016 alone, 16 of these Dior ensembles have been shown off twice - once on the catwalk, and later on the red carpet. Though some have seen minor tweaks in colorway, straps, or embroidery patterns, these designs are clearly causing a craze. We predict it will extend far into award season, so don't be surprised when the actors gather at the upcoming ceremonies, and Dior dresses are all over the place. Scroll for all the proof.
