Denzel Washington Has the Sweetest Reunion With His Childhood Librarian For Her 99th Birthday
When you think about celebrities who frequently make dreams come true, people like Denzel Washington don't usually come to mind. While we're used to seeing the likes of Chris Pratt and Justin Bieber grant wishes left and right, actors like Denzel are much more old school and private and stay under the radar, except when they make amazing movies. This simple fact is what made his recent reunion with his childhood librarian that much sweeter. Connie Mauro worked at Mount Vernon Public Library in New York for nearly 50 years, and while she must have come across hundreds of children throughout her career, she never forgot giving one special 7-year-old his very first library card: Denzel. While gearing up to celebrate her 99th birthday, staff members at Atria Johnson Ferry in Marietta, GA, the assisted living facility where Connie currently lives, decided to reach out to Denzel to see if they could organize a reunion.
Due to the Fences actor's busy schedule, he unfortunately wasn't able to make it to Connie's party, but he did call her to wish her a happy birthday. "You were the cutest kid! I loved you," Connie told him over the phone. "You were my special library boy." Denzel shared in her affections, responding, "You don't know how much you helped me. You helped me so much. I'm gonna come and see you. So, Connie, happy birthday to you - what are you now? 29? 30?" The star then kept his word, visiting "Miss Connie" at her home in early December. Brooke Munson, executive director of Atria Johnson Ferry, said, "It was like they never missed a beat. He was funny and endearing, constantly cracking jokes." The pair chatted for over an hour and a half, and Connie even gifted Denzel with a blue scarf she knit. Before parting ways, Denzel assured her he would be back to see her again. These two are our new favorite celebrity BFFs.
