Kim Kardashian's Terrifying Robbery: Police Have Arrested 16 Suspects
This post has been updated with new information.
Kim Kardashian experienced her own (and everyone else's) worst nightmare on Oct. 2 when she was robbed and held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room while in town for the Paris Fashion Week shows. Thankfully, the reality star survived the incident unscathed, although the details that continue to emerge about what happened to her are each more disturbing than the last. Here is everything that you need to know about the situation thus far:
- Kanye West ends his concert early due to a "family emergency." The rapper was in the midst of performing at the Meadows Festival in Queens, NY, on Oct. 2 when he stopped singing and apologized to the audience that he had to cut his set short because of a family emergency, shocking the crowd.
- News leaks that the family emergency in question is Kim being robbed in Paris. At around 3 a.m. in Paris, Kim was held hostage and robbed at gunpoint in her luxury apartment at the No Address Hotel - a private mansion where her husband has owned a space since 2011 - where she had been staying all week. Although popular with celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, the residence's only security measures are a receptionist at the door and "a nightman."
- Kim's representatives release a statement about the incident. "Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening by two armed masked men dressed as police officers," her reps told The Hollywood Reporter on Oct. 2. "She is badly shaken but physically unharmed."
- The French Interior Ministry speaks out. The security organization said that five men were involved; they wore ski masks and forced the concierge to give them access to Kim's private apartment, where two of the men then entered. After the robbery, the attackers fled on bicycles, and according to Us Weekly, officials believe the robbery was committed by a "highly organized" gang.
- The Paris prosecutor's office reveals how much Kim lost in the robbery. On the Today show, it was confirmed that the reality star's wedding ring (though not her engagement ring) and her jewelry box, worth over $10 million, were stolen. Two smartphones were also among the items lost.
- A source comes forward to shed chilling details about the nature of the robbery. According to one of E!'s sources, Kim was bound and gagged during the incident, before being handcuffed and threatened with a gun. "She begged for them to let her live and [said] she has babies at home. Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub," they said. "She thought they were for sure going to kill her."
- Kim leaves Paris aboard her private jet. TMZ reports that an understandably upset Kim left Paris in a hurry after what she called "the worst moment in my life."
- Kim lands safely in NYC. Though missing her wedding ring, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star landed safely in NYC on Monday morning, where she was spotted walking into her apartment building in Manhattan with Kanye by her side. Upon landing, she reportedly traveled with a security-heavy entourage of 10 vehicles and 15-20 bodyguards.
- A source says Kim has been worried about this for a long time. "This was one of Kim's biggest fears," a source told People, adding that she was hysterical while relaying the details of what happened to Kanye. "She's always known the threats are out there, but for something to happen, it's almost unimaginable. It's going to take her a very long time to feel safe again."
- A suspect is called in for questioning, while the apartment Kim was robbed in is investigated by forensic officers. Us Weekly discovered that a photographer had been obsessively following the Kardashians around Paris Fashion Week days earlier and was even able to get inside the restaurant they were dining in by dressing up as a policeman (the same method the thieves later used to gain access to her building). French police also have the residence surrounded and are thoroughly investigating the space for traces to nail the perpetrators with the help of a forensic officer.
- Kanye reschedules his tour dates. On Oct. 3, Live Nation released a statement on the singer's behalf, saying, "Due to family concerns, this week's Philadelphia and Detroit dates on the Saint Pablo tour have been rescheduled." The two shows will now take place on Dec. 13 and Dec. 22, respectively, and the tour will officially resume on Oct. 7.
- Kim feared she was going to be raped. "The reports of her fear of being raped are real," a source told People. "She really did think she was going to be raped. She had a gun to her head the whole time."
- Kim might have been followed while in Paris. Us Weekly reported that the perpetrators might have been tailing Kim all week dressed as a detective and a photographer. The Daily Mail also posted footage of an unidentified man driving a gray Fiat 500 weaving through traffic in an attempt to follow the car Kim was riding in after attending a fitting with Kanye and Kourtney. He reportedly followed them to a restaurant, where he was denied entrance to even after telling people there that he was a police officer, which lines up with allegations saying she was robbed by people dressed as law enforcement.
- Paris police search for a mysterious black limo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, police have recovered surveillance footage from a shoe store across the street from where Kim was staying, which shows a black limo with tinted windows circling the area around the time that she was robbed.
- Filming for Keeping Up With the Kardashians gets put on hold. On Oct. 6, news broke that the popular E! reality series has been placed "on hold indefinitely". New episodes from the 12th season that have already been filmed will resume on Oct. 23.
- The robbers may have chosen Kim as their target because of Kanye. It was revealed on Oct. 7 that after breaking into the apartment building, the men asked the concierge in French, "Where's the rapper's wife?" This could possibly mean that the suspects, who reportedly arrived and left the scene on bicycles, may not have known Kim by name, but rather through Kanye and his fame.
- The men knew what they were doing. A source told People that it was "a very well-coordinated robbery" and that they left essentially no DNA evidence.
- Kanye resumes his Saint Pablo Tour. On Oct. 7, the rapper returned to the stage in his hometown of Chicago and told the crowd, "It's good to be home." Kim was also spotted arriving back in LA earlier in the day.
- Kim's diamond cross necklace is found. After one of Kim's platinum-mounted jewelry pieces was found outside of her Paris hotel on Monday, Us Weekly reported that the robbers deliberately dropped the necklace in an attempt to con the police into thinking they were amateurs. The burglars reportedly set up a "double bluff" escape ruse in which one of the men fell off his bicycle, while another pretended to accidentally drop a piece of jewelry as they fled. Paris police told the publication, "They wanted us to believe that they were amateurs, but all the real clues point to them being extremely sophisticated professionals. There is no way a gang like this would drop stuff and fall off bicycles. All that was done for any cameras that might be in the area. It is far more likely that they played around on bikes for a few minutes after stealing the jewels and when they still had their masks on, before they all got into a van and disappeared."
- Kim is a no-show at the Keeping Up With the Kardashians season 12 wrap party. The Kardashian-Jenner family celebrated the end of the show's 12th season with a party on Oct.11, and naturally, the family shared photos from the event on Instagram. Noticeably missing from the pictures was Kim, who's been keeping a low profile since the robbery.
- Kim cancels her Las Vegas club appearance. On Oct. 12, E! News revealed that Kim had canceled her annual birthday appearance at Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas. A rep for the club told the news outlet, "Given recent circumstances, Kim Kardashian will be unable to make her previously scheduled appearance at Hakkasan Las Vegas Nightclub."
- Kim receives an apology from a website that claimed she lied about the robbery. After suing MediaTakeOut.com for saying Kim lied about her Paris incident, the site released an apology, stating, "We can understand how reports questioning if the robbery in fact took place can be hurtful, and so we apologize. No one deserves to go through such a traumatic experience. Kim is not just celebrity, she is a person, a wife and a mother - who in no way deserved what happened to her."
- Kim's assistant says the reality TV star is taking some time off. On Oct. 17, Stephanie Sheppard shared a handwritten letter on Kim's website announcing that "Keeks is taking some much needed time off." She continued, "But not to worry we've called upon Kim's closest friends, fam and yours truly to save up some exclusives. Stay tuned for new posts and app takeovers!! Thank you so much for your support for my girl. Love you mean it."
- Hotel de Pourtalès's concierge blames lack of security for the robbery. The concierge on duty during Kim's robbery, known only as Abdulrahman, opened up about the whole ordeal during an interview with the Daily Mail. "There was no real security at all," he said. "It's a choice. The hotel doesn't mind about security. We told them years and years before, you have to make a camera, you have to put [in place] a security process, about keys. Nothing was locked, there was no proper security there. Everyone knew it." He also said that even though he emailed his bosses about getting better security in 2010, the security codes had not been changed in six years and there were no functioning security cameras in place. Following the incident, Abdulrahman said that he plans to take legal action against the hotel.
- The hotel concierge reveals more horrifying details about Kim's robbery. During an interview with the Daily Mail, Abdulrahman revealed that he was forced to unlock the door to Kim's room with a spare key and he was there with the star when she was robbed. While Kim pleaded with the robbers to spare her life, Abdulrahman said he tried his best to keep her calm. "She began to scream again," he said. "That's why he put the tape on her mouth. A long piece of tape, all the way round her head." He added that the robbers left right away when they saw that Kim's bodyguard was calling her phone.
- Kourtney breaks her silence on Kim's terrifying robbery. During a video interview with Australia's Today Extra on Oct. 19, Kourtney opened up about how Kim is doing, revealing, "She's not doing great. I think we're all really still shaken up and I just - you know, I think she has a big, supportive family and I know that all the traumatic things that we've been through, we get through them together as a family, and that's what family's all about."
- Security footage of Kim's robbers surfaces. The five alleged robbers were captured on video by street-side cameras obtained by France's M6 news as they made their getaway on bicycles and foot. They are seen approaching the hotel at 2:19 a.m. and leaving 49 minutes later. According to M6 news, Paris police currently have no leads on their identities.
- The hotel concierge reveals that the robbers weren't after jewels. During an interview with ET, Abdulrahman reveals that the robbers continued to demand money even after taking Kim's wedding ring. "She believed that they were there for her ring," he explained. "She showed her hand . . . there is no ring, and the guy is like, 'Where is the ring?' At that moment she gave him her ring -- it was on a table close to the floor -- she gave her ring to the guy ... and he put it in his pocket. For him, it was just a ring, I think ... he didn't stop asking for money. They weren't there for jewels at first, they were there for money."
- Kim returns to social media and then deletes her posts. On Oct. 31, the reality star shared three posts on Facebook before quickly deleting them all. An Us Weekly insider adds that the posts were actually an error. "She's still figuring out when is the right time for her to come back."
- Kim and Kanye fire their longtime bodyguard. Entertainment Tonight reports that the power couple has terminated their relationship with bodyguard Pascal Duvier. Pascal first came in contact with the family when he started working with Kanye in 2012, and a year later he began working with Kim. A source told ET that "Pascal, along with a couple other security members of their team, were recently let go by Kim and Kanye. It's a pretty tough situation overall and they love Pascal, but they couldn't take any more chances."
- Police arrest suspects who may be connected to her robbery. According to several French reports, police have arrested 16 suspects, and several are reportedly still being held for questioning in France.

Brad Pitt Pulls a Golden Globes Sneak Attack, and We Couldn't Have Been More Excited to See Him
Brad Pitt introduces a clip from @moonlightmov, nominated for Best Motion Picture - Drama tonight! #GoldenGlobes http://pic.twitter.com/mqaHCdsyvz
- Golden Globe Awards (@goldenglobes) January 9, 2017
The Golden Globes was flooded with some of Hollywood's biggest stars on Sunday night, but one celebrity we weren't expecting to see was Brad Pitt. During the show, the actor popped up on stage to introduce a clip from Moonlight, which he produced. The surprise appearance comes on the heels of his recent split from Angelina Jolie. Since she filed for divorce, the actor has been keeping a very low profile, only attending a few events for his film, Allied, in November. Let's just say, we've definitely missed seeing his gorgeous face.
Is This New Silicone Sponge the World's First Perfect Makeup Blender?
Silicone blending sponges are having a moment right now thanks to the Silisponge, an applicator that looks similar to a breast push-up pad and is designed to flawlessly blend in makeup. However, for some, the flat tool can be a little unwieldy, while others long for a textured surface similar to that of a true sponge.
A Kickstarter campaign for Evie Blender has taken the original silicone tool concept and claims to have perfected it. Its creator, makeup artist Angie Johnson, came up with the concept when working behind the scenes on television shows like Documentary Now!. For these programs, she put her special effects skills to use, and her experimentation with different silicone materials while creating prosthetics inspired Evie's creation.
Its squishy, teardrop shape makes it easy to grip, and it features both a large end for buffing and a pointed end to get into small areas like under the eye and around the nose. It has a textured surface just like a real sponge but doesn't hold on to makeup, making it easy to wash off (it doesn't stain either). The hypoallergenic tool can even be boiled or wiped with rubbing alcohol to sanitize it - a major selling point for professional artists. Bonus: it's sparkly!
Though the tool isn't available for purchase yet, you can donate $28 to the Kickstarter campaign, which will secure your very own Evie for March delivery (should the campaign make its goal). Read on to see more shots of the Evie Blender, then give to the Kickstarter if you're interested in trying it out!
Sean Penn Turns His Annual Gala Into a Lovely Family Affair
Sean Penn hosted his sixth annual Haiti gala in Beverly Hills on Saturday night. In addition to the star-studded guest list, Sean's kids, 25-year-old daughter Dylan and 23-year-old son Hopper, who he shares with ex-wife Robin Wright, also made lovely appearances. Dylan and Hopper dressed to the nines and proudly stood by their dad's side on the red carpet. The gala raised a record $37 million with donations from the French government, the Parker Foundation, and the World Bank. The last time Sean and his kids hit a red carpet together was at the premiere of The Last Face at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2016.
Guess Which Bitter Reality Star Called Meryl Streep the "Most Over-Rated Actress in Hollywood"?
Meryl Streep was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, where she used her searing, passionate acceptance speech as an opportunity to highlight some of the country's most pressing issues. After touching on the importance of diversity in both Hollywood and in America, she didn't hold back while explaining why Donald Trump, the former reality star who is days away from running our country, must be held accountable for his actions. She specifically brought up an incident that happened at a South Carolina campaign rally, when he openly mocked a reporter with a disability. "There was nothing good about it, but it did its job," she said of the moment. "It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can't get it out my head because it wasn't in a movie; it was in real life. That instinct to humiliate when it's modeled by someone in a public platform, it filters down into everyone's life because it gives permission for others to do the same."
While you might think America's president-elect would have better things to do than tweet about the Golden Globes, you'd be wrong. He took to the social media platform on Monday morning to express his displeasure about Meryl's acting caliber and to deny that he ever made fun of the disabled reporter (despite the fact that it 100 percent did happen and was caught on video).
Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a.....

Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never "mocked" a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him.......

"groveling" when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!

Although we wish his reaction was one of the many hilarious political jokes that the Golden Globes had to offer, it's simply yet another reminder of our uncertain future.
Sienna Miller Is Wearing the Newest Chanel Lip Product - and You're Going to Be Obsessed
As a bride-to-be, my first thought when I saw Sienna Miller's soft and romantic makeup at the 2017 Golden Globes was, "I want to wear that down the aisle." Her makeup artist, Kate Lee, who has been working with Sienna since the '90s and exclusively used Chanel products, flawlessly played up Sienna's features with lush lashes, clean eyeliner, and a medley of rosy nudes.
When we chatted exclusively with Lee via email after the red carpet, we learned two key things about Sienna's look. The first is that Lee was inspired by 1960s Hollywood beauty to craft the soft palette and timeless style.
Lee said: "Sienna's Look for the Golden Globes 2017 was inspired by Brigitte Bardot and Jean Seberg and that very specific brand of beauty that was born of the 1960s. Beautiful, classic, but effortless. We took what we wanted from the references, and then made it our own. It was a collaborative process which included Sienna, myself, and Earl Simms, who is her long time hairdresser."
FYI, Sienna wore an elegant black ribbon tied around her ponytail, a nod to accessories seen on both Bardot and Seberg.
The second key piece of information we discovered is that Sienna is one of the first celebrities to rock Chanel's new Crayon de Couleur Jumbo Longwear Lip Crayon (available in 11 shades for $37 each). As early testers of the lip crayon, we can confirm its creamy formula. The finish is more of a glossy matte than a dry one.
To choose Sienna's hue for the evening, Lee swatched out the shades (and you can see an exclusive photo ahead). "When I receive a new range of lip color, I like to test it first as it gives me an idea of how much pigment and emollience is in the product," Lee told us. "By understanding the texture and pigment, I find it helps me to figure out how to achieve different looks by blotting, layering etc."
She selected No.1 Nude option to go with Sienna's '60s style. "Because we were pretty much set on our references, I knew that I would use a nude blush shade, and it just happened to be perfect," Lee explained. "I had a few other matte shades on hand but because Sienna was quite tanned, I felt that a moist lip would look more modern."
Though lip crayons are generally pretty easy to use, we wanted to get Lee's advice on how to apply this buzzy launch. "Lip Crayons are the best of the bunch when it comes to ease-of-use and portability," she noted. "They impart great color and moisture, which you can then blot and layer or use over contrasting or corresponding shades to build depth and intensity. My favorite way to use them is to apply from the pencil and then gently dab with my ring finger to work the color into the lip and soften the lip line."
And of course we had to know what it's like to get ready with Sienna! Lee said, "Sienna and I have worked together for over 15 years, and it's always such fun and so inspiring for me to work with her. She is truly a beautiful person, inside and out. Today we listened to David Bowie in honor of his birthday and there was a champagne toast just before she left!"
Keep reading to see exclusive photos of Lee's kit, those aforementioned swatches, and a photo of Lee and Sienna. There are also close-up shots of Sienna's look in case you, too, want to pin this to your "wedding" Pinterest board!
"Tiger Eye" Hair Color Is Going to Be the It Dye Trend For 2017
When it comes to subtle ombré fades and highlights on the hair, we've seen everything from balayage to tortoiseshell and ecaille take off. Recently, we learned about the a technique called "tiger eye," which is inspired by the tiger eye stone. The pretty pebble is thought to have healing powers, so choosing it as a Winter hair color means you'll start the new year off with good vibes.
Honey Artists hairstylist Corey Tuttle told Byrdie, "A tiger eye is an ancient stone worn for protection and confidence - it's known for its rich browns and golds." These colors are seen blended through strands using a technique that is similar to balayage. Tuttle advises to ask your colorist for "hand-painted caramel highlights paired with a warm or dark chocolate base." And like balayage, it grows out seamlessly, since the roots are not necessarily dyed.
Celebrities like Jessica Alba (pictured) and Jennifer Lopez have rocked tiger eye hair, and as the fad grows, we predict it will be a hot salon staple at the start of 2017.

Michael Keaton Makes a Huge Flub at the Golden Globes and People Are NOT Happy
Michael Keaton made a huge mistake during the Golden Globes on Sunday night and people are already voicing their opinions about it on social media. When announcing the nominees for best supporting actress he accidentally referred to Hidden Figures as Hidden Fences, combining the title of the former film and Fences. Sadly, this wasn't the only time this happened during the night. Earlier in the evening on the red carpet, NBC News correspondent Jenna Bush asked Pharrell Williams about his nomination for Hidden Fences, when he's actually nominated for Hidden Figures. Yikes. See the best reactions to Michael's flub below.

10 Thoughts Kate Middleton Probably Has on a Daily Basis
Image Source: Getty / Chris Jackson
Kate Middleton really is the people's princess. The 34-year-old, who was born a simple commoner in Reading, England, didn't catch the public's attention until she started dating Prince William in 2003. The couple eventually married in 2011 and are now parents to their two adorable kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. But while Kate has shown us her relatable side with her awkward interactions with Queen Elizabeth II and her athletic abilities, we also can't help but think that her life must be pretty similar to Mia Thermopolis's in The Princess Diaries. In between all the tiaras, etiquette lessons, and fancy galas, we wonder when she has time to binge on junk food and watch trashy reality TV. Here are 10 thoughts the Duchess of Cambridge probably ponders over on a daily basis:
1. Am I allowed to just go into the kitchen and make breakfast? I wonder if they have Cocoa Puffs.
2. What's that noise? Oh, all the queen's corgis . . .
3. Should I take my ripped Backstreet Boys tour t-shirt off and pretend I slept in those plaid, button-down pajamas all night?
4. Should I let George and Charlotte color all over these walls?
5. Should I bring up the Game of Thrones finale with the queen? She might think I'm trying to make a bad joke.
6. Will William ever utter a swear word? I mean, for f*ck's sake . . .
7. I hate myself for asking this, but which tiara should I wear tonight?
8. How many more boring people do I need to meet?
9. I wonder if my face can actually get stuck from holding a smile for so long?
10. Am I living a dream? I am, aren't I?
Mom Reveals the Bittersweet Struggles of Being Pregnant After Miscarriages
As the mother to a little girl, Allie Boss already knows that it's hard being pregnant. However, after suffering two miscarriages before this new pregnancy, she quickly realized just how much more difficult it is to be expecting a baby after enduring such devastating losses.
Instead of keeping her fears to herself, this brave mom opened up and shared her experience on Facebook. "Pregnancy after miscarriage(s) can be a hard/weird thing," Allie wrote along with a sweet snapshot of her little girl and growing baby bump. "I think it's common to questions symptoms but it's 100 times worse after loss."
At times, Allie gets anxiety over the thought of losing another baby or lets herself get caught up in questioning whether this baby is going to make it to full term. Yet despite these unrelenting concerns, Allie didn't let them keep her from sharing her exciting news from the start. Allie decided to announce her pregnancy before even making it to her second trimester because this mama knows firsthand the importance of not taking life for granted.
I questioned if we shared too early because what if something happened again? But here I am 8 weeks 5 days and I'm not going to hide it. You should never feel you have to hide a baby - a precious life - until after the first trimester. I want to celebrate everyday I carry this baby. Heaven forbid something happens. I'm going to celebrate, share and savor every single day. Because this baby deserves it. Because I'm growing a precious longed for, prayed for and wanted life inside of me and that deserves to be celebrated from day one.
Meet the Royal With Better Bling Than Kate Middleton
In 10 years, the woman who was christened Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano went from news anchor to queen of Spain, and just one of the ways in which her life has changed can be charted by the contents of her jewelry box.
As she inched into royal life on the arm of her boyfriend and then fiancé, Prince Felipe VI, she gradually flashed some of her new baubles, along with some subtle pieces borrowed from her mother-in-law, Queen Sofía. As soon as she became princess of Asturias on her wedding day, it was all about the tiaras, suites of vintage jewels, and lavish designer gifts. However, since her husband became king in June 2014, the newly minted Queen Letizia has moved forward with increasingly quirky and colorful pieces that include elements like brass mesh and semiprecious insects. Here we take a look at some of her most important, impressive, and interesting items.
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling Clearly Have Nothing but Crazy, Stupid, Love For Each Other
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have graced the big screen together three times, and their latest project, the musical romantic comedy La La Land, is already making an award season splash. With eight Critics' Choice Awards wins already, seven Golden Globes wins, and Oscar glory likely on the way, the longtime friends and co-workers are racking up career milestones left and right - they even cemented their place in Hollywood history (literally) at a recent hand and footprint ceremony. And yes, we know that they are not (and will likely never be) a couple, but we'll never stop swooning over their sweet moments together.
Pippa Middleton Wore a Winter Coat We're Betting Even Kate Would Want to Borrow
Pippa Middleton just made the case for why every woman should own a brown coat for Winter. During Sunday's church service at St. Mary Magdalene, where sister Kate Middleton was also present, Pippa wore a double-breasted brown coat dress and coordinated with a matching fedora. While she could have gone with a number of more colorful coats, we love the understated hue of her outerwear choice. It's the one item you can count on to match with everything in your closet. And, it's a piece we're betting Pippa can rewear on multiple occasions - a style trick she no doubt learned from Kate. Scroll on to see Pippa's coat from all angles before scooping up a similar one yourself.

The Way Harry and Dumbledore Come Full Circle in Half-Blood Prince Will Make You Cry
Want to have a little salt rubbed in your open wound today? Cool, I'm here to help with that. It's been years, but the pain of Dumbledore's death still hasn't really faded (at all), and these Half-Blood Prince quotes will remind you (or enlighten you in case you missed it!) how Dumbledore and Harry's entire relationship came full circle in the end.
In chapter four of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore takes Harry to meet Horace Slughorn in hopes that Harry's "Chosen One" status can sway him to come back and teach at Hogwarts. As you'll remember, good old Horace was a bit hesitant because, as he puts it, "taking up a post at Hogwarts just now would be tantamount to declaring my public allegiance to the Order of the Phoenix!"
On the way to see Horace, Dumbledore tells Harry to keep his wand at the ready, just in case something happens (they were living in dark times, after all). But, he assures Harry that he need not worry about being attacked. "Why not, sir?" Harry asks. "You are with me," Dumbledore answers. What seems like a simple reply - very Dumbledore-esque in nature, of course - comes completely back around again toward the end of the novel. A recent Reddit thread put two portions of the book together - the section from chapter four and one from the very end of chapter 26, after Dumbledore is forced to drink the poisonous draught in Voldemort's cave:
The touching moment brings not just the beginning and ending of the book together, but it ties together Dumbledore and Harry's entire relationship in a beautiful and simple way. Harry, once the child and the student, has now become a man - and someone Dumbledore considers his equal. One Redditor made a great point, saying that "in all instances, the basic theme is that Harry has taken on the role of the man, the adult, the guardian: Dumbledore knows he's taught Harry everything he can, and that Harry is ready to step into his own to fight Voldemort."
Dumbledore knew at this point for quite some time that he was dying, and with these words, he is passing the torch to Harry and giving him the confidence he needs to go forward and destroy the Horcruxes and ultimately Voldemort himself. It's a pretty fitting way to say goodbye, I'd say.
12 Photos of the iPhone Through the Years That Will Make You So Nostalgic
10 years ago, on Jan. 9, Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone to the world. No one knew just how much the iPhone would change our lives.
The iPhone was first introduced at the Macworld 2007 expo by Steve Jobs, and described as "a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone and a breakthrough internet communications device." When it first came out, people thought the iPhone wouldn't last but here we are ten years later, arguing about AirPods and still waiting in line to get the newest phone.
Most people can't imagine living without their iPhone - something Tim Cook, Apple's CEO definitely agrees with. "iPhone is an essential part of our customers' lives, and today more than ever it is redefining the way we communicate, entertain, work and live," said Cook in an Apple press release. "iPhone set the standard for mobile computing in its first decade and we are just getting started. The best is yet to come."
I can still remember upgrading my flip phone to an iPhone 3G and feeling totally weird to be carrying around what I thought was a glorified iPod that could make phone calls. Take a trip down nostalgia road and see all the different generations of the iPhone.
6 Places Kate Middleton Lived Before Becoming a Princess
Kate Middleton hasn't always resided in a 10-bedroom country estate or 21-room apartment at Kensington Palace. Long before meeting and marrying Prince William, Kate was just a regular girl who moved around with her family, studied abroad, lived in college dorms, and even shared a flat with her little sister. Here are all the places Kate lived before her life became a royal one.
- Berkshire, England: Kate was born to parents Michael and Carole Middleton at the ironically named Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. The upper-middle-class family lived in a modest, brick Victorian "with a cramped kitchen" in Bradfield Southend. They later purchased at Oak Acre, a five-bedroom Tudor-style country house in nearby Bucklebury, Berkshire.
- Amman, Jordan: While working as a flight dispatcher for British Airways, Michael and his family were relocated to Jordan. Kate lived there from 1984 to 1987.
- Wiltshire, England: Kate studied at Marlborough College, a coed boarding school, in 1996.
- Florence, Italy: After finishing her studies at Marlborough, 18-year-old Kate headed to Florence to study Italian and art history. She completed a three-month course at the British Institute of Florence in Palazzo dello Strozzino.
- Fife, Scotland: In 2001, Kate moved to Scotland to study at the University of St. Andrews and lived in three areas of on-campus student housing. It was at one of them, St Salvator's Hall, that she met Prince William. She went on to graduate with a master's degree in art history.
- London, England: Postcollege, Kate accepted a position as an accessory buyer with British retailer Jigsaw and moved into a flat in London's exclusive Chelsea neighborhood with her sister Pippa; Carole and Michael Middleton purchased the apartment in 2002 for all three of their children to live in. Pippa continued to reside there with their brother James well after Kate married Will and moved to a four-bedroom farmhouse on the Welsh island of Anglesey.

Ever since Kate Middleton stepped into the spotlight as Prince William's chosen one, she's been the one we all want to look like. But if you take away the glitz and glamour of royalty, she's kind of basic: simple brunette hair color, soft brown eyeliner, nude lips, and a typical salon blowout. Heck, she doesn't even wear nail colors! Yet Kate's still the one whose pictures we pin or copy at the hair salon. She makes that classic romantic look feel fresh. But there's an art to her beauty style (you can't just wake up like that). Here, we've broken down 10 tips to help you get there!
How Kate Middleton Has Celebrated Her Birthday For the Past 10 Years

No sooner have the party poppers and champagne corks been cleared away from New Year celebrations than it's time for more merriment over at Anmer Hall. The Duchess of Cambridge turns 35 on Jan. 9, and Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte are sure to have big plans on how to make her big day special. So how has Kate celebrated in previous years? As she evolved from girl about town to princess-in-waiting and mum of two, the way she's chosen to mark her day is an indication of what else was happening in her life at that time, as well as giving insight into what makes her tick.
2006
On her 24th birthday - around two years into her relationship with William - Kate celebrated with her family, but her prince was nowhere to be seen. William had enrolled at Sandhurst military academy two days earlier, however, the pair had just returned from a ski break in the Swiss resort of Klosters with Pippa and some friends. Since William and Kate usually took their ski breaks in March and April it's likely this was a little pre-birthday break for Kate.
2007
Again Kate spent her birthday without William by her side, as he had recently joined his first regiment. There had been increasing speculation that William was about to propose on Kate's 25th birthday, and when she left her flat in the morning she was swarmed by paparazzi. An impending proposal was at that time far from the truth, as this was just a couple of months before the couple's breakup, but William was furious and released a statement. "Miss Middleton should, like any other private individual, be able to go about her every day business without this kind of intrusion. The situation is proving unbearable for all those concerned," it read.
2008
Once again, William was not around on Kate's birthday (as he'd recently enrolled in further military training), but the pair were in a much happier place and committed to a future together. Kate piled into a taxi with her mom and sister, and they all went out for the evening in London together.
2009
William was certainly by Kate's side when she turned 27 - much was made of the fact his car was parked in the driveway of her parents' home, marking the first time he'd publicly stayed over with his future in-laws. Kate celebrated at the Middleton's home with her family and boyfriend of five years.
2010
Once again, Kate celebrated her big day at her parents' home with William.
2011
The last birthday Kate celebrated before she got married was a low-key affair. She and William had just returned from the wedding of their friends Sarah Louise Stourton and Harry Aubrey-Fletcher in Yorkshire.

2012
The night before Kate's 30th birthday, she spent the evening with Steven Spielberg, Tom Hiddleston, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Not bad for a rainy day in January! She and William attended the royal gala premiere of War Horse, and it was reported that Spielberg's wife Kate Capshaw passed her a tissue when she noticed Kate was feeling the emotion of the film. The following day, Kate elaborated with dinner in the private dining room of a Kensington restaurant with friends and family.
2013
The following year, when she was pregnant with Prince George, Kate took in the Cirque du Soleil show Kooza at the Royal Albert Hall with William, friends, and family. It was only the second time she'd been seen in public after being hospitalized with hyperemisis gravidarum.
2014
Her first birthday with Prince George was a relaxed one. William was studying agriculture at Cambridge University, so she spent the day with her mother and sister.
2015
Kate was approaching the last trimester of her pregnancy with Princess Charlotte, and spent her birthday quietly at home with William and George.

There Is a Beauty and the Beast Nail Polish Collection Launching - And It's Enchanting
Here's a tale as old as time: a Disney remake movie is released and multiple beauty brands create collections inspired by it. On March 17, the much-anticipated Beauty and the Beast live-action movie opens, and you can bet beauty companies are feeding the obsession.
To kick it off, we have an exclusive first look at a seven-shade, Beauty and the Beast-themed collection. The line hails from sister brands Gelish Gel Polish ($13) and Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer ($9), featuring some seriously dreamy hues.
There is Be Our Guest (creamy pink), The Last Petal (pearly red), Gaston and On (baby blue), Days in the Sun (bright yellow), and Pots of Tea (alabaster). The most standout of all is Enchanted Patina, a specialty overlay coat that changes the color beneath it to look more "antique." It gives a nod to the Baroque details seen in the film set, and it can also be worn on its own.
As early testers, we tried Be Our Guest topped with an Enchanted Patina nail art design, and the results (which you can see here) were spectacular. It created a rose-copper finish, and we can't wait to play with more combinations!
Though the offering does not launch until February 2017 at gelish.com and morgantaylorlacquer.com, you can get a sneak peek right here, right now (spills included!).

5 Easy Tips For Achieving Kate Middleton's Enviable Blowout
Someone close to Kate Middleton is spilling all of her secrets - her hairstylist! Richard Ward is the owner of his own eponymous salon in London. It's been nearly a decade since he first met the Duchess of Cambridge at that same location. In a recent interview with People, Ward sweetly noted, "She's the same person that first came into the salon 10 years ago."
After working with Kate for quite some time, Ward dubbed her simultaneously bouncy and sleek style the "Chelsea Blow Dry" - a creation that he has since trademarked. Though Ward has a pretty amazing canvas to work with, he insists that the Chelsea Blow Dry can be achieved by anyone. He told People, "It's not just about Kate's hair - it is beautifully finished, frizz-free, shiny hair."
We experienced this legendary blowout from Ward not too long ago, and he generously gave us the lowdown on his entire process. Using that salon visit and his tutorial for People, we've determined the major tips and tricks to getting a mane fit for a duchess. Read on!
42 of Kate Middleton's Least Princess-y Facial Expressions
The Duchess of Cambridge usually looks elegant and composed when she's performing her royal duties, but, like every human, she does occasionally drop her picture-perfect grin to reveal deeper emotions. Indeed, Kate Middleton tends to show off her least "princess-y" expressions when she's doing one of her favorite things - watching sports. Since the duchess isn't too princess-y to play sports, it's only natural that some of her funniest moments would come while she is watching athletes do their thing! Keep reading to see Kate's funniest faces from over the years.

Hitting the Gym but Not Losing Weight? Here's Why
Have you been working out, eating right, losing weight - then suddenly you hit a wall? Perhaps you've been doing all the right things and still not seeing any results. This plateau might feel like a dead end in your weight-loss journey, but there's hope in the form of new research.
Last week, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) published a 13-week study with new research about subjects they call "non-responders." The conclusion: you need a personalized balance of cardio and strength training to see results.
If you suspect you are a "non-responder" and your body isn't budging despite your healthier choices, you're not alone. A separate study from the Cooper Institute found that many people - "20 to 45 percent of some populations," according to a press release - are in the same boat. ACE's study suggested that "considerable heterogeneity" in exercise can lead to "adverse effects."
Think back to your exercise schedule. Is there enough variety? Is it personal to you? If the entirety of your fitness routine is purely group cardio classes, it's time to break the cycling cycle! ACE's research showed that "a unique combination of functional fitness, resistance training, and cardio workouts eliminates the non-responder phenomenon." This means the only way to break through a rut, wall, or plateau in your fitness journey is to mix it up; individualized programs are imperative if you're not seeing progress.
Here's how the study went: exercises were split into two groups of exercisers (it was a small group - 46 subjects in total). One group was put into an "individualized training" group, while the others were in a "traditional exercise" group. "Between two groups, 100 percent of participants with individualized training saw positive results, while 35 percent of the traditional exercise group showed no significant health improvements."
The "traditional exercise group" was the control group; they were "not instructed to not do any formal exercise." The individualized group received more instruction, which was a balance of functional movement, resistance training, and cardio. We've heard before that a combo of cardio and weight training is the best way to lose weight via exercise, and this is more evidence.
"The individualized group saw more significant health improvements in almost every metric," ACE said in a press release. This included an improvement to "VO2 max" (your lung capacity and performance ability), as well as "muscular fitness and key cardiometabolic risk factors."
It's important to note that in addition to a balanced routine, each participant in the individualized group received a plan that was specific to their bodies and abilities in order to optimize their results. While movement of any kind is important for your health, if you've got fitness goals and seem to be hitting a roadblock, it's time to consider a plan that is more tailored to you. At the very least, start mixing up your workouts with both cardio and resistance training.

Proof That Princess Charlotte Is the Spitting Image of Queen Elizabeth
The past year has been full of milestones for Princess Charlotte. Since becoming fourth in line to succeed the throne in May 2015, Charlotte has experienced her christening and first public appearance at Trooping the Colour, and most recently, she embarked on her very first royal tour with older brother Prince George and her parents, Kate Middleton and Prince William. As we got a glimpse of Charlotte during her time in Canada - waving to fans, playing with balloons, and smelling a bouquet of flowers - we couldn't help but notice how similar the adorable 1-year-old looks to her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. The striking resemblance is evident in their round cheeks, wide smiles, and big, bright blue eyes. Days after Charlotte's birth, the queen said of her fifth great-grandchild, "We love to have another girl," while Kate revealed that Charlotte is "very cute" but "has got quite a feisty side." Sounds like she and the queen have more in common than looks.
35 of the Most Beautiful, Fun, and Glamorous Photos From the Golden Globes
The Golden Globe Awards took over LA on Sunday night, bringing along a bevy of Hollywood's biggest stars and some truly memorable moments. Along with heartfelt speeches from the night's winners and some hilarious (and awkward) onstage occurrences, there were also a handful of amazing things that happened offscreen (and backstage, and at the afterparties!). Scroll through to see the best photos from the Golden Globes.
We Didn't Get That Heathers Reunion We Wanted, but Winona Ryder Still Looked Stunning at the Globes
Winona Ryder may have been so busy ducking her ex-boyfriend Matt Damon at the Golden Globes on Sunday that she forgot to reunite with her Heathers costar Christian Slater, too. The actress was on hand for the big show on Sunday night and though she didn't take home the best actress in a TV drama series for her role in Stranger Things, she did look absolutely stunning on the red carpet in a black Viktor & Rolf gown. For the record, it's her first time attending the Globes since 2000 (with Matt Damon!), and somehow she's managed to look the same.
She and Christian didn't come together during the event, but Winona still made time to gush about her former costar with E!'s Giuliana Rancic on the red carpet. "I have not seen him in a long time, but I adore him," she said. "I'm so happy for him. I could not be more happy for him. I love him so much. . . he's the best." She also revealed that she reached out to the Mr. Robot star after his Golden Globe win in 2016: "When he won I just imagined he was getting flooded with e-mails, and so I was like, 'You don't have to write me back, but congratulations.'" She went on: "And then he wrote me back. And I was like, 'Oh. . . friends forever.'" While we are very, very sad that our dream Heathers reunion didn't come to fruition, we're still thrilled to see Winona at big Hollywood events again - including her recent meetup with Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands director Tim Burton.
It's No Lie, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon Were So Cute at This Golden Globes Bash
Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon were as cute as can be when they popped up at HBO's Golden Globes afterparty on Sunday night. The duo - who costar in HBO's upcoming show Big Little Lies – played up their offscreen chemistry on the red carpet as they held hands and shared a few laughs. Their outing got even cuter when they linked up with pal Sarah Jessica Parker, who gave us major Carrie Bradshaw vibes in her white Vera Wang gown. If this is any indication of what their show will be like, we're in for a real treat.
28 of the Cutest Candid Moments From Inside the Golden Globes
Between all the red carpet glamour and fun onstage moments, the Golden Globes were quite an event to take in on Sunday. Keep reading to see all the Golden Globes moments you didn't catch on screen, from costar reunions and PDA to celebrity guests generally fanning out over each other.
Kendall Jenner's Globes Gown Isn't What You Were Expecting - and That's Why You'll Love It
As a supermodel, Kendall Jenner uses fashion to make a statement, and her Globes look said, "I'm a movie star." No, she's not, but she's absolutely a chameleon. Trading her typically high-fashion, trend-driven looks for a bright colored strapless gown by Paule Ka, Kendall pulled off the kind of look that's more classically sexy and glamorous than her usual of-the-moment ensembles. Complete with layered necklaces and an elegant up-do, it's a look that's more Hollywood A-lister than fashion girl. Read on to see the aferparty gown we weren't expecting from Kendall.
Lola Kirke's Pink Pin Comes With a Bold Message
It might have been lost in a sea of glitzy Globes gowns and million-dollar jewelry, but there in plain sight, pinned right to her pretty pink Andrew Gn gown, Lola Kirke had a powerful message to share: "F*ck Paul Ryan."
In light of Ryan's push to defund Planned Parenthood, Lola's accessory is an important call to action, she told Elle:
"I'm wearing a F*ck Paul Ryan pin. Paul Ryan is talking about defunding Planned Parenthood. I think that, along with a number of other decisions that are being talked about being made by the new administration, is atrocious. As a person with a platform, no matter what size it is, I think it's important to share your views."
We couldn't agree more with the actress and the message. Now, we have to ask Lola, where can we get one?
The Show Is Over, Now Let's Talk About the Globes Afterparty Dresses
Right after getting a glamorous dose of red carpet gowns at the 2017 Golden Globes, we're hit with some pretty fantastic afterparty looks. In Hollywood, the fun doesn't start until there is an outfit change, so you best be ready for some more eye-catching dresses and jumpsuits. Read on to see which afterparty ensembles were the crème de la crème.
