Ring the Fire Alarm Because These Joan Smalls's Bikinigrams Are Smoking
Of course Joan Smalls's Instagram feed would be filled with sexy bikini photos. Whether she's beachside for a hot shoot for Victoria's Secret, vacationing by a pool with fellow supermodels, or enjoying time back home in Puerto Rico, Joan knows exactly how to show off her toned body in the skimpiest bikinis we have seen. She poses for sexy topless (and bottomless) snaps and in angles that highlight her, ahem, curves. Keep scrolling to see all her hotness in its full glory.
How a Stranger at Jo-Ann Fabric Taught 1 Tired Mom About the Power of Kindness
When Gina Murrow was standing in a long line at Jo-Ann Fabric, she was feeling rushed and tired. There were two people in front of her, plus many more behind, and she was less than pleased to be caught in line with a 4-year-old boy who was clearly completely done with this shopping trip.
"I'm ashamed to say I inwardly groaned; I was too tired to feel patient with whiney boys," she shared on Facebook. However, the woman standing in front of her didn't share the same sentiment and immediately smiled at the child and began chatting with him.
"'Gummy bears!' she exclaimed, pointing at the bag of sweets the boy was holding. 'I love the yellow ones! Which are your favorite?'" Gina recounted. "She was so warm, friendly, and inviting, immediately the boy smiled and responded. They carried on a lively conversation about candy bears and their cheerfulness began to spill over into the line."
Gina turned around and everyone who was in line behind her was also smiling. When it was this kind stranger's turn in line, she waved the mom and boy ahead of her. Gina commented how nice that was of her and the woman chuckled. "'Ah, well, it's the least I could do. He was doing well, but I could tell he was getting tired.'"
Gina then recalled how the stranger's face took on a wistful look as she watched them check out. "'My son passed,' she said softly. 'That could have been me . . . '" Gina recounted. "Then she gave herself a little shake and the conversation turned back to cheerful observations about adorable 4-year-old customers."
When the mom and child finished, the woman called goodbye to her new friend and reminded him to try her favorite yellow gummy bears. Again, Gina noticed that everyone waiting behind her was smiling due to the sweet exchange. "Here was a woman bearing a hidden pain, but she gave back joy, compassion, and kindness to everyone around her," Gina wrote. "We can learn from her example. As you go about your day look around and behind you, and see what simple kindness you can leave in your wake."
10 Images That Prove Crown Eye Shadow Is the Most Regal Beauty Trend Ever
If you have been a beauty girl your whole life, chances are you've been called a princess at least once or twice. Your love of makeup has likely been seen as a kind of vanity rather than a passion for product. It can be hard to ignore the haters, but that's why we love the new crown shadow trend: it acknowledges makeup shamers in a saucy, IDGAF way.
Crown shadow is just what it sounds like. Instagram makeup artists are painting tiny detailed tiaras on their eyelids, even bedazzling the tips with shimmer and rhinestones. It's flashy, of course, but true beauty girls don't do any trends halfway. We suggest pairing this style with a red lip or sparkling gloss to boost the glam factor! Read on to get a closer look at regal crown lids.

12 Outfits to Save For a Rainy Day
This Was the Last Item Bella Hadid Took From Sister Gigi’s Closet
In the Summer of 2016, we speculated that Gigi Hadid stole a lace crop top from her sister's closet. It wouldn't be far off - the supermodels do have similar figures and the same shoe size. While Gigi's style veers on the sporty side and Bella's is a touch more sexy, there's plenty of overlap. That means there are a handful of pieces the girls have exchanged. In an interview with Elle, Bella admitted to borrowing clothes from her sister, revealing she "just took a pair of striped Vans," but that Gigi doesn't always ask her for permission to take her clothes.
"This is what happens: She never tells me she's taking anything. But then I show up at her apartment and there's like a random t-shirt or a hoodie or something lying around, and it's mine," Bella said. "And Gigi did not ask me if she could take it! She's sneaking off with my stuff!"
For more proof they swap clothes, the sisters stepped out in New York amidst protests of Trump's Muslim ban, where Bella sported the striped flared pants Gigi wore only days before. And Bella's cable-knit turtleneck, a sweater from Gigi's first Tommy Hilfiger collaboration, was one Gigi styled in the same way - pulled high over her chin to keep warm.
We love that when it comes to fashion, the two can transition seamlessly into each other's wardrobes. We're sure that helps when they're traveling from coast to coast and want to pack light. Scroll for photographic proof the duo work their street outfits in the same way (they're both even wearing Elizabeth and James sunglasses), then shop some of their essentials.
Tracy Morgan Says His Daughter's First Steps Inspired Him to Walk Again After His Accident
Tracy Morgan has been one of the funniest people in show business for a handful of decades now, and despite a few major obstacles in recent years, the actor continues to prove that he will always spread joy wherever he goes. Tracy stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, where he opened up about everything from his family life to his slow and steady recovery following the June 2014 bus crash that nearly claimed his life. After getting emotional while talking about how he missed his daughter Maven's first steps when he was in a coma, things (of course) took a funnier turn when he opened up about his sex life with wife Megan Wollover to the host. Not only did Tracy tell Ellen that they are going to start trying for a baby boy "tonight," but he also said their next role-play characters in the bedroom are Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian. Never change, Tracy.
Drop Whatever You're Doing and Watch This Amazing Video of Barack Obama Kitesurfing
If you thought Barack Obama wearing a backwards baseball hat on vacation proved he'd reached peak relaxation, prepare to have your mind blown. The former POTUS recently flew down to Necker Island (in the United States Virgin Islands) along with wife and former First Lady Michelle, where they were seen grabbing lunch with British billionaire Richard Branson, who happens to own the island. The lunch apparently convinced Richard that Barack would make the perfect kitesurfing buddy and "challenged [him] to a kitesurf vs foilboard learning contest," according to a YouTube video he shared of the two. "We agreed to have a final day battle to see who could stay up the longest," Richard said, adding that Barack trained for two straight days in order to face off against the business magnate, "picking up the basics and flying a kite as if going back to being a child again." Suffice it to say, the video is pretty damn amazing. All of that sleep has clearly paid off!
The Cast of Jane the Virgin Reacts to the Show's Heartbreaking Surprise Death
MAJOR SPOILERS from Monday night's episode of Jane the Virgin below!
After a few seasons full of not-so-subtle hints from Jane the Virgin's narrator that Michael Cordero (Brett Dier) wouldn't make it out of the show alive, he was killed off in season three's 10th episode, "Chapter Fifty-Four." Despite all of the foreshadowing, it still came as quite a shock for tons of fans, but they weren't the only ones grieving. The cast shared a number of heartbreaking Instagram photos commemorating Dier's time on the show, both as an actor and as their real-life friend. Gina Rodriguez, who plays the show's titular Jane (and Michael's wife), posted a picture of her and Dier hugging with the caption, "You are my partner in artistic crime. We did two plus seasons together and I will never have the words to express how you changed my life. Thank you @brettdier #teamMichaelForever #janethevirgin #DreamComeTrueActingPartner." Rodriguez also shared a video Dier left on her phone in character as Michael, and it's safe to say that any loyal fan of the show will get a little teary-eyed after watching it.
Although Michael and Rafael were in constant competition on Jane the Virgin, Dier and Rafael's real-life counterpart - Justin Baldoni - are good friends IRL. Baldoni also took to Instagram to say how much he'll miss him. "It's so rare to meet someone who can instantly make a gloomy day feel so endlessly bright. There wasn't a day I didn't look forward to coming to set and laughing with you brother," he captioned his black-and-white group photo. "You were my first bromance and no one will ever replace you." Other costars like Yael Grobglas, Andrea Navedo, Jaime Camil, and Dier himself also reached out, so check them all out below (just make sure you have a box of tissues handy).
Bernie Sanders Had the Best Response to That Balenciaga Collection
Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia debuted his men's Fall 2017 collection last month in Paris, and with it came his signature styling. The boxy silhouettes, sophisticated tailoring, and layers seemed to mimic the pieces at his Spring 2017 women's show. But while that collection was decidedly '80s-inspired, Balenciaga's menswear spoke to the modern political activist.
Demna worked Senator Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign logo onto puffer scarves, t-shirts, bomber jackets, and vests so it was as if his models were campaigning down the runway - both for Balenciaga, an on-the-rise brand, and for a politician who continues to inspire many people post election. When Bernie Sanders got wind of what went down, he laughed and when asked if he would ever be "a fashion icon," Bernie said, "Of my many attributes, being a great dresser or a fashion maven is not one of them."

Matt Damon Finally Makes It on Jimmy Kimmel Live . . . Disguised as Tom Brady
After years of trying to be good enough to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Matt Damon finally achieved his dream on Monday night, but he wasn't exactly feeling like himself. The actor hilariously disguised himself as Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady so that he could get on stage. Even though he initially fooled his "longtime frenemy," his enthusiasm eventually got the best of him when he was forced to take off his helmet and reveal his true identity. Of course, that only made the audience applaud even more as he cheerfully exclaimed, "I did it! I did it!" This just goes to show that hard work and dedication really do pay off.

Despite how serious the movie will be, the set sure looked like fun! We're practically upon the next movie's Feb. 10 release date, so get your fix with these behind-the-scenes shots now.
What a Cashier at McDonald's Did For a Boy With Autism Will Melt Your Heart
When Bonnie Kandel's son, Leif, gets fixated on something, it's very hard for the young boy with autism to let that thing go. After weeks of hearing her son talk about Teen Titans toys that his friend got from McDonald's, Kandel knew that she was going to have to take Leif on a trip to get a Happy Meal containing one of the toys.
"So after a few weeks we ventured out in search of the much discussed Happy Meal," Kandel wrote in a post she shared on the Love What Matters Facebook page. "We ordered and asked about the coveted Teen Titans toys that were displayed on a kiosk. They had run out, no more left. They were now on to Batman. Leif was devastated."
After telling their cashier, TQ, a bit more about Leif and why the toys meant so much to him, the young woman asked her manager if she could break the rules this one time and dismantle the display full of the Teen Titan toys for Leif. "It took some convincing, I overheard, because this was not something they were supposed to do," Kandel wrote.
"TQ spent the next 15 to 20 minutes getting those toys for my son. He was overjoyed and has been playing with them for HOURS! McDonald's, I hope you know how lucky you are to have such a sweet woman on your staff. Someone who takes special care of their customers, someone who goes well above and beyond."
Kandel ended her post with a thank you directed at TQ, who appears smiling next to Leif in the post's photo. "Thank you, TQ . . . These simple Happy Meal toys mean so much! Your effort was an expression of love and made a difference."
The Special Reason You'll Want to Buy Kat Von D's 6 Newest Lipstick Shades
All the way back in April 2016, Kat Von D teased six tubes of her beloved Studded Kiss lipsticks. But instead of being wrapped in that classic glossy black packaging, each lipstick's case was meant to match the hue inside. "These new shades of Studded Kiss lipsticks are color-matched to their components and will be launching as a limited-edition set," Kat had explained. However, while they were supposed to launch at the end of last year, the lipsticks never hit shelves.
Fans hadn't forgotten about these prettily packaged products, though. "So annoyed," said Instagram user @kizzylola1. "They said these were out around Christmas and it was delayed for months." But now we can all rest easy knowing that the set - officially named Rock Candy - will be coming to Sephora.com on April 4.
According to the brand's Instagram feed, those six petite tubes all hold brand-new electric shades. Kat Von D's vice president of product development, Nancy McGuire, revealed swatches of the hues - and their names - on Instagram. She called Zero a "personal fav" that Kat dreamed up: "a non-traditional gray with a pinky lilac undertone that looks awesome on everyone." The remaining shades are Ozzy (lavender), Roxy (royal purple), Crush (neon pink), Babe (bright pastel pink), and Ziggy (coral-pink). Stay tuned for more updates on the collection as they become available!

The dress and shoes she wore while in NYC are from her Pre-Fall '17 collection, which is why they probably look a little familiar to you. Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn Kick Ass and Take Names in the Raunchy New Snatched Trailer
The second (slightly NSFW) trailer for Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn's highly anticipated mother-daughter comedy is here! The film, called Snatched, features a recently dumped young woman named Emily (Schumer) dragging her uptight mother, Linda (Hawn), on what seems like a picturesque vacation to South America. They're soon kidnapped, and, naturally, hijinks ensue. The costars have already gotten a bit of heat for the film thanks to a dance routine they performed to Beyoncé's "Formation," but hopefully this will be a fantastic return to the big screen for Hawn, who hasn't appeared on film since 2002's The Banger Sisters. Snatched also costars Ike Barinholtz, Wanda Sykes, and Joan Cusack and hits theaters on Mother's Day weekend.
This Insanely Talented Duo Perfectly Mashes Hit Songs to the Beat of Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You"
By now, you've probably memorized every word to Ed Sheeran's new hit "Shape of You." In addition to the catchy beat, the singer showed off a darker (and sexier) side to himself when he debuted the music video in late January. But the song was taken to a whole new level when British singer and YouTube star Conor Maynard had a sing-off to the tune against The Vamps in a Facebook video. The two quickly prove that so many other hit songs go perfectly with the song's beat, including ones from TLC, Shaggy, Beyoncé, Drake, and Sia. Get ready to wear out the repeat button on the video above.
Every Parents Needs to Read This Mom's Message About Rear-Facing Car Seats
With one graphic post-car-accident photo, Therese Gilbert is grabbing the attention of parents across the world.
This mom of three is passionate about car-seat safety and wants parents to understand what could happen if their toddlers are switched from a rear-facing car seat to a high-back booster seat too soon. "This is what a seat belt injury looks like on an adult - who was correctly secured in the car and had a frontal collision," she captioned the brutal photo on Facebook. "It looks very bad, doesn't it? This was an adult - imagine this type of an injury or worse on a child."
Therese blogs about car seat safety and came across this upsetting image while doing research for a post on extended use of rear-facing car seats. She explained that the difficult image shows trauma to the chest muscles and tissue as well as some minor lacerations to the neck from the seat belt burning into the skin on impact. She's hoping that this visual will serve as an important reminder to all parents. "Far too many jump to a HBB [high-back booster seat] the moment the child hits the minimum weight limit for example," she explained. "Turning forward-facing is not a milestone to look forward to. The differences in safety between forward facing and rear facing - are too great. Don't be in a hurry."
The concerned mom acknowledges that parents don't always have a choice, especially once their child has outgrown their current car seat, and isn't advising that children ever use a rear-facing car seat above the approved weight limit. "But when you have the option to rear-face your child - take it. And do it for as long as possible," she wrote.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children stay in rear-facing car seats as long as possible, at least until they are 2 years old. When a baby outgrows his or her infant seat, they should still sit in a rear-facing, convertible seat because it offers better protection to a child's head, neck, and spine during a car crash.
Signs Your Child Has Sensory Processing Disorder
Are you wondering whether your child could have Sensory Processing Disorder - or wondering what it even is? To help, we've rounded up some of the basics on the condition, as well as key signs of Sensory Processing Disorder in children of different ages.
Sensory Processing Disorder Basics
What is Sensory Processing Disorder?
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD, formerly called Sensory Integration Dysfunction) is a condition resulting when sensory signals are received but not interpreted normally by the nervous system. As Athena Y. shares: "My 5-year-old daughter's problem focuses mainly with touch...Her brain misinterprets certain feelings and temperature as pain or she just does not feel the pain. When she was two [her] clothing hurt her, she could not be touched; even brushing up on her just walking by would frustrate her to the point of tears. She could not stand the feeling or temperature of the water at bath time."
Children with SPD may be hypersensitive (overresponsive to sensory stimulation) or hyposensitive (underresponsive to sensory experiences), or both. As Amy L. explains: "It varies a lot from one child to the next; most have mixed reactions, oversensitive to some things and undersensitive to others."
How common is Sensory Processing Disorder?
Different studies have suggested that anywhere from 1 in 20 to 1 in 6 children experience sensory symptoms that could affect their everyday lives.
What is the treatment for Sensory Processing Disorder?
Occupational therapy is the main form of treatment for children with Sensory Processing Disorder. Often, the disorder is not treated until a child has reached at least age 4 and a half (and some contend diagnosis and treatment should be held off until age 6 or 7).

The Main Frustrations Plus-Size Models Still Have With the Fashion Industry
My first though upon seeing The Candice, a sleek club top with a cold shoulder on just one side, was, "Hot damn, I want that shirt." Then I reached out and touched it - it wasn't made from a flimsy, fast-wrinkling silk like so many of my going-out tees. It's actually a satin-back crepe material that's still got stretch. It felt comfortable and looked well made, and I could imagine it styled with so many different pieces in my wardrobe.
That is Universal Standard's goal: to make quality pieces for women sizes 10 through 28 who have felt limited and unacknowledged in fashion. The Candice was designed by Candice Huffine, which is a name that probably rings a bell since she's a supermodel with plenty of campaigns and a Pirelli calendar under her belt. Universal Standard asked Candice, Katy Syme (who's been working with the brand since its start), and Georgia Pratt to think up a staple they'd been missing. It turns out they're not the only ones in need of a chic top, a versatile shirtdress, and a forgiving yet flattering tunic.
When I sat down with Candice and Katy, they told me they barely had to think before they arrived at their dream creations. There's no doubt they're going to satisfy so many women across the US with their picks - preppy, professional, girlie, sporty, streamlined, you name it. But striving toward a more inclusive industry doesn't end with three new essentials, no matter how many outfits may come of them.
Read on to hear what standards Candice and Katy are still frustrated by, what personal achievements they're proud of, and what projects excite them most. Candice summarized a curvy girl's place in fashion perfectly: "It's really frustrating when curvy girls are just 'asked to the party.'" Can't we all agree that at this point, with the fact that the average woman's size is 16, they shouldn't need an invitation?
Ahead, see Candice, Katy, and Georgia star in the Universal Standard campaign, shop their personal looks, and then share how you wear them on Instagram with #Tria4Us.
Chocolate-Covered Strawberries in No Time at All
If there's one thing I could eat every day, it's chocolate and fruit. Chocolate-covered strawberries are one of those decadent desserts that people save for special, romantic occasions, but I don't really understand that. This technique for dipping your strawberries in melted chocolate is so simple, it can and should be enjoyed regularly. While many recipes tell you to melt chocolate and butter together, I find that the chocolate chips melt perfectly on their own, and I like to keep things as simple as possible. I use semisweet chocolate chips, but feel free to use whatever your taste buds prefer. Click through to follow along.

These Are Already Looking Like They'll Be the Trendiest Names of 2017
With every year comes new baby-naming trends - think nouns as names and unisex monikers in 2016 - and in 2017, it's looking like the hottest trends of the year include multicultural picks, pop-culture-inspired names (like Bowie), and options that are seemingly more gender-specific than in past years.
According to Nameberry's top name charts, there are quite a few names that saw over 100 percent growth from January 2016 to January 2017 (some even grew by over 1,000 percent - lookin' at you, Tatjana!). Although many of the names are unique enough that they likely won't make it into the coveted top slots of the year, these names are clearly on the rise and looking to make a splash on the year's trendy lists.

Valentine's Day preparenthood often involves dinner reservations made weeks in advance, overpaying for a prix-fixe menu, and the expectation of a dozen red roses. Now that you're a mom? This year, spice things up a bit. No need to blow your budget on an extravagant night on the town. We've got 20 romantic ways for parents to amp up the romance on V-Day - no babysitter required!

- Sneak little love notes in his/her bag.
- Stargaze in your backyard or on your rooftop.

- Go the opposite route and order a pizza - eat it on a blanket in front of the fireplace.
- Watch your wedding video.

- Flirt via text message throughout the entire day.

- Get into bed early (wink, wink).
- Pick up some fancy wine and chocolate and have a tasting for two.
- Play bartender and perfect a fancy cocktail recipe.
- Plan your next family (or parents-only) vacation.
- It may not sound romantic, but tackling a home-improvement project (especially painting) can be supersatisfying.
- Have breakfast in bed - for dinner (and after the kids are asleep).
- Put on some great background music, and just talk - no TV, no distractions - just the two of you.
- Slow dance!

Selena Gomez's Favorite Quote Is 1 You Should Repeat Every Single Day
In her first interview since taking a 3-month self-care break for Thrive Global, the singer talks all about getting healthy and gaining strength. Though Selena discussed all the small changes she's made to her life to feel less burnt out - perhaps we won't be seeing as many Instagrams posted to her account, since she's aiming to spend time away from her cell phone - what stuck the most with us was her favorite mantra:
"You are not what happened to you, you are what you chose to become after what happened to you."
Wow! Just like Selena, we'll be keeping that quote top of mind every day. Pin the graphic below as a constant reminder to give yourself a break.
Can You Make It Through 23 Shirtless Jason Momoa Photos Without Passing Out?
Jason Momoa is like something built in a laboratory - if there was a laboratory devoted to crafting the finest human specimens on the planet. He's so ridiculously gorgeous that he has trouble not ripping out of his t-shirts, yet he's also a charmingly down-to-earth family man who we'd love even if he wasn't so beautiful. (But luckily for us, Momoa is both ruggedly handsome and an extremely interesting guy, so we don't have to choose.)
Between bonding with his family and getting fit for his next role, Momoa occasionally graces social media with shirtless photos - a gesture that we don't take lightly. We've rounded up some of the sexiest snaps from this collection (and a few from his film career for good measure) for your enjoyment, because . . . why not? Just try not to pass out before you get to the end.
3 Ways to Keep Your Resolutions and Build Self-Confidence
Keeping with your resolutions a month into the new year can be challenging, but those who manage to stick it out after January have more success. Our friends at YourTango have shared ways to stay strong and build confidence through the year.
No more failures for you!
Keeping your New Year's resolutions builds self-confidence. Unfortunately, studies show only 8 percent of people succeed after the first few weeks.
Here are three excellent ways to set yourself up for success … even after you see your resolution enthusiasm fading.
1. Switch it up and dump the R-word.
If you are one of the 92 percent who consistently fail to keep their resolutions, you have unintentionally programmed your subconscious mind to believe that resolutions equal failure.
And here's something you need to know - your subconscious mind runs the show!
It stores your underlying beliefs and emotional baggage (it's okay, we all have it), which greatly influence your day-to-day life and future.
Simply replace the R-word with a word that is not wrapped in negative emotions.
"Intention" is a great alternative. It implies a combination of wanting and expecting, which are both positive and empowering.
2. Make your intention believable so you will stop sabotaging yourself.
Many people resolve to lose 20, 30, or 50 pounds in the new year. If that's not you, this example can be applied to anything, so stick with me here.
First of all, your subconscious mind probably doesn't believe you when you say you are going to lose 30 pounds. However, it WILL believe that you can donate or release THREE pounds.
When you weigh two pounds less, set a new intention to donate 3 more pounds. That is both believable and doable. Unless, of course, you're still calling it "losing weight," which will definitely sabotage your success and self-confidence.
Here's how that works ...
What do you do when you lose something?
You go and look for it to get it back, right? And here comes that weight again, except now there's extra because your subconscious mind wants to be prepared in case you lose it again. It's the same principle as getting a spare key made after you lock your keys in the car the first time.
If you want to get rid of something (including weight), call it "releasing" or "donating."
See how the picture in your mind is more empowering? You are giving it away ... for good.
A lot of people resolve to get in shape at the gym - when the only time they've ever stepped foot in one is to purchase a membership they never used. If this is you, plan to work out once per week. And then twice per week. And so on. Start slow and give yourself time to build up in a healthy way.
Those of us who work out regularly see crowds of people swarming the gym, hiking trails, yoga classes, etc. from January 1st to mid-February. After that, 92 percent of these "resolutioners" disappear because they have burned themselves out by taking on too much at once, reducing their self-confidence.
This goes for anything from writing a book you've had in your head for decades to finding your soulmate.
Take it slow. Make it doable.
You deserve to succeed and feel healthy - mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
3. Empower yourself by starting over instead of quitting.
Obviously, the beginning of a year is a compelling time to start something new, but you can push the restart, refresh, or reboot button at the beginning of any month, week, day, or hour!
Just pick one, create a new intention, and start over.
Once I started my entire day over at 5 pm because I felt completely unproductive. Playing "beat-the-clock" made it a fun game, and I got more accomplished in the next four hours than I would have on any normal day. I felt clear, confident, and successful, and slept very peacefully that night.
You can do the same. In fact, you DESERVE to do the same!
Set your believable intention and start again where you left off as many times as you need to.
It's about personal progress and self-confidence, not perfection.
Have fun with it!

9 Nonnegotiable Rules of Visiting a Newborn
Newborns are delicate creatures. Their moms even more so. Visiting the pair, no matter how closely related or emotionally tight you are with the new mom, requires sensitivity, planning, and adherence to a specific set of rules. This is not the time to show up unannounced, apologize for your coughing toddler, and request a cup of coffee. If you want to maintain your friendship or family bond - and ever be invited back again - follow these guidelines.
And if you're a new mom wondering worried about your loved ones' historic lack of boundaries, send them this list today!
- Schedule your visit in advance, and don't push if Mom's not ready for visitors. Every new mom is different, but most need some one-on-one time with their new addition before they are ready to introduce him or her to the masses. Respect that timeline, whatever it may be, and simply ask if they're ready for visitors. If not, check back a few days or a week later. When the answer's yes, suggest a few times that will work for you and let Mom decide what will work best for her.
- Work around Mom's schedule and be on time. New motherhood is an exhausting, sleep-deprived, overwhelming time. If you've been given the green light on a specific time to visit, it's important to remember that time was probably chosen carefully to fit in both Mom and baby's schedule, so be punctual. Not early, not late.
- Don't stay too long. Smart moms tell visitors in advance that they are only up for a short visit, but even if you're not given a specific window, you should plan on keeping your visit short and sweet. An hour is probably about right, unless Mom begs you to stay longer.
- Bring food. As a new mom, it feels almost impossible to shop, cook, or even feed yourself, so bringing along a meal - home cooked is fine, but a bag of sandwiches from her favorite takeout spot is equally acceptable - is a must. Just make it easy on her by not sending pans or Tupperware that need to be returned.
- Wash your hands and ask before you pick up the baby. No matter how irresistible that baby is or how recently you washed your hands before your arrival, just lather up when you get to her house. Also, remember that the baby literally lived inside Mom's body just days before and she's probably still feeling a bit possessive. Be respectful and ask if you can hold the baby. If after a few minutes Mom is looking uncomfortable and itchy to get her back, pass her back immediately.
- Offer to let Mom take a shower or nap. If you're close enough to Mom that she'd feel comfortable leaving you unsupervised with the baby, offer to take over for a while. A quick shower or nap can create a world of difference for a new mom. If she declines, however, don't push it.
- Just say "no" if Mom asks if you want anything to drink or eat. You are there to help and check in, not to be served. If you're really dying of thirst, get up and get that water yourself.
- Don't bring your kids, unless they're healthy and you asked in advance. You'll probably enjoy your visit a lot more if you don't bring your kids and can focus on Mom and baby, but if that's not a possibility, make sure you ask in advance. And if your kid wakes up with a fever or a wicked cough on the morning of your visit, reschedule. Also, remember that while you might be totally comfortable with your 6-year-old holding a newborn, that newborn's mom probably is not. Make sure your kids know and respect boundaries as well.
- Don't offer unsolicited advice. If Mom asks questions about breastfeeding, sleep schedules, or postpartum healing, of course, answer with your own experiences and advice, but if not, zip it. This time is about her, not you, so no matter how much her swaddle sucks, keep it to yourself.
Who Is Isabelle Huppert? Get to Know the "Meryl Streep of France"
Call it the battle of two Meryls. In one corner, there's the record-breaking queen of American cinema, Meryl Streep. Her opponent? The so-called "Meryl Streep of France," Isabelle Huppert. And on Feb. 26, the two will battle it out for the Best Actress honor at the 89th annual Academy Awards.
But who is Isabelle Huppert, and how did she seemingly become an overnight film sensation in her 60s? (Spoiler alert: there was nothing "overnight" about it.) Here are eight things you need to know about the actress.
- She's been in the acting game for a long time. Although the current buzz around Huppert is regarding her Oscar nominated turn in Elle as a businesswoman on the hunt for her rapist, the 63-year old made her silver screen debut 40 years ago, starring in the French film, La Dentellière.
- You might be saying her name wrong. Fight the urge to rely on American English phonetics. It's pronounced: "EE-zah-bell EU-pair."
- She works. A lot. Since getting her start, Huppert has appeared in more than 100 films, and has worked with industry legends including Claude Chabrol and Curtis Hanson. Elle wasn't her only movie last year - she also appeared in Things to Come from French director Mia Hansen-Love.
- She's no stranger to awards. This may be her first Academy Award nomination, but she's been nominated for France's equivalent award, the César, 16 times (with one win for 1995's La Cérémonie). She also has the distinct honor of being the actress who has had the most films (18 as of last year) compete in the Cannes Film Festival, and she's won that festival's prestigious Best Interpretation Award twice - something only four actresses have ever done.
-
She's repping France hard. Huppert is one of 13 French actresses to ever receive an Oscar nomination, and she's one of just seven to be nominated for a French-language performance.
- She's famous for her work on stage and screen. Not only does Huppert have a fruitful career on screen; she's also a veteran stage actress, earning six nominations for the Molière Award, France's equivalent of the Tony. Makes sense: she studied theater at the Versailles Conservatoire, and later spent time at the Rue Blanche theater school and the Conservatoire National d'Art Dramatique.
- She has a busy family life, too. Huppert has been married to writer, director, and producer Ronald-Ariel Chammah since 1982, and he directed her in the 1987 film, Le Milan Noir (Black Milan). The cinematic duo have three children together: Lolita, Lorenzo, and Angelo. At least one of them caught the acting bug (or gene): Lolita has appeared in three films with her mom.
- She's busier than ever. She's currently filming the Benoît Jacquot film, Eva, and has six other films set to premiere this year (including Madame Hyde, which is loosely based on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
The Star-Studded Video For the Reggaeton Remake of Selena's "Si Una Vez" Has Arrived
In late 2016, producer duo Play-N-Skillz enlisted Wisin, Frankie J, and Leslie Grace for a reggaeton remix of Selena Quintanilla's emotional "Si Una Vez." Now all of the aforementioned artists have teamed up for a captivating music video with all of the visuals and drama one might expect. Despite its star power, we couldn't take our eyes off Leslie Grace, who manages to encapsulate both Selena's vulnerability in the original song and the remix's lively energy. Watch the exciting video above.
The 3 Things Your Trainer Wishes They Could Tell You
Your trainer is there to help motivate you, support you, guide you, and to help you perform each exercise that you are taught, safely and effectively. They're good folks who try hard to match or elevate your enthusiasm to be your fittest. They want you to succeed and be your best, but sometimes they wish they could tell you things that you may not always want to hear.
Think about it: your trainer is the one person who can give you the best plan to help you meet your fitness goals. No matter what, your trainer will keep you engaged, answer your questions, and always be positive toward you.
If your trainer lacks any of the above qualities, and you'd really like to tell them so, you might feel bad about it, right? Well trainers feel the same way - if you have certain shortcomings or quirks about you that may get under your trainer's skin, they would not feel good about telling you, either for fear of hurting your feelings or maybe even losing their jobs!
Luckily, we spoke to a lot of trainers for this story to compile a list of the three major things that they wish they could tell you. You may not love hearing all of this, but maybe it'll help you get a better workout as well.
1. Don't Make Excuses
Sure, everybody has an excuse here and there as to why they've missed a workout or why they're not quite eating the way they should for their goals. However, when a client if full of nonstop excuses, it can get really tiring for your trainer. One trainer told me that when a client gives them two excuses in as many days, he sets them free and tells them to reconnect when they're serious about their health.
Let's get real: telling your trainer you don't have time to work out is the number one excuse they hear all the time. It's like saying you don't have time to eat or use the bathroom. You do have time and you're paying for their time. Use it wisely.
2. Don't Go to Your Session Late (Even Worse: Not Showing Up at All)
A trainer sets aside their time specifically for you. When you don't show up, they can't just pick up another session with someone else. If you know you have a workout planned on a specific day that you won't be able to make, let your trainer know ahead of time so that they can fill that spot or make other arrangements. Repeat offenders in this category become a big thorn in the backside of a lot of trainers. One trainer told me that he has a 24-hour cancellation policy; if you don't tell her you're not making a session at least a day in advance, you're going to get charged the full rate.
The same goes for being late. When you show up even 10 minutes after your session was supposed to begin, that can mess up your trainer's schedule for the rest of the day if they have to push every other session back to accommodate you. If you have a trainer who's not so tolerant of your tardiness, they will cut your session short as to not mess up the rest of their schedule, so you're losing out on workout time and not getting all the benefits of your session.
3. Don't Blame Your Trainer For Lack of Results
It's one thing if you're doing everything by the books and your trainer has you on a plan that is either too easy or not effective at all. But that's hardly the case as most trainers assess their client's fitness levels, talk about nutrition, and try to get them on the right plan to meet their specific goals. Blaming your trainer is a little like a bad musician blaming their guitar for a ruined set. You are the reason you fail or succeed. Think of a trainer as a secret weapon. But no weapon wins a war on itself. You need to do the work.
No excuses. If you aren't following the given plan, skipping workouts, and cheating on your diet, don't blame the trainer when you don't get results. One trainer told us that if they start hearing the blame for lacking results, they refer the client to someone else before the relationship becomes toxic.
