Dear White People, Please Take Notes on This Poignant, Timely New Netflix Show
Of all the new Netflix shows coming this year, Netflix's adaptation of Dear White People might be the most savage. This is to be expected, of course. Considering the new series is based on an already-existing movie of the same name, there's no mystery pertaining to what we're getting. Even so, the heat of the title itself suggests we're in for quite a ride when the latest iteration drops. Wondering what you're getting yourself into with this new original? We've pulled some of the most crucial details just for you.
1. The Premise
Dear White People began its journey as a comedic film in 2014. The story follows the lives of four black students at a predominantly white Ivy League university. The narrative examines different kinds of cultural unrest and racial discrimination.
2. The Cast
The main stars of the show are more up-and-coming than anything, but it seems like that might have been the showrunners' intention. In terms of lead characters, Logan Browning plays Samantha White, Brandon P. Bell plays Troy Fairbanks, and Antoinette Robertson plays Coco Conners.
3. The Trailer
A first look at the series is already going in on a pretty contentious issue: Halloween. The trailer advises white people on the acceptable things to dress as: "pirate, slutty nurse, and any of the first 43 presidents." It would be unacceptable, on the other hand, to dress as a black person . . . which, it seems, is exactly what happens. This is going to get intense.
4. The Premiere
As Netflix so smartly put it, classes begin on April 28.
Jonathan Simkhai Just Rolled Out a Collection For the Girl Who's Feminist AF
Since becoming a member of the CFDA in 2014, and then going on to win the Fashion Fund award the following year, Jonathan Simkhai has come a long way. You might say he started out as the designer who offered the perfect wedding guest dress - striking, different than all the rest, and recognizable thanks to custom lace (this season stitched to resemble cathedrals). But Jonathan Simkhai's Fall 2017 collection offers a girl her full wardrobe, from the casual "Feminist AF" tees Simkhai distributed to the front row to the glamorous gowns that closed his show.
Simkhai is not just making a statement with those giveaways. He's selling them on his website and donating all proceeds to Planned Parenthood. (Plus an extra contribution: five dollars for every seat filled at his presentation). It's no wonder then that Jonathan Simkhai's new line aims to put a woman's strength on display. He knows our voices are loud, now he's just giving us something to wear so that we're noticed before we say a word.
This season, the clothes benefit from more structure and more edge. But Simkhai's girl - walking down the street in her embellished suit sets - doesn't look like she's sporting armor. She's just firm in her strut, the front slits in her trousers making it easier for her to extend her legs. Victorian-inspired blouses with high necks speak to the fact that she's conscious of her past, while bejeweled denim, metallic grommets, and luxurious velvet demand attention in the here and now.
A jewel-tone magenta is a new shade for the brand, and it matched the models's lips perfectly. Fur stoles swing off the shoulders and one oversize coat is paired with leather thigh-highs and nothing else, confirming it's time we make our own dress code. And while Jonathan Simkhai offers up the swingy silhouette he's famous for (bell sleeves and a fluted skirt), the crystalized numbers that make up the finale are something else. These jumpsuits and gowns, one of them finished with ostrich feathers, we could picture on any of the designer's supermodel friends. But they were made for every woman; they'd make anyone look like a star.

The Horrifying Reason This Girl Ended Up in the Hospital After Using a Bath Bomb
A terrifying experience has proven that not all bath bombs lead to soothing relaxation. According to Cosmopolitan UK, a 10-year-old Welsh girl landed in the hospital after simply adding one of the fizzies to her tub.
Mother Leanne Keating purchased a passion fruit and watermelon bath bomb from her local Wilko's (a budget retail chain) for her daughter Tia. This was her child's first experience using a bath bomb. Just five days later, Tia had developed a rash that looked strikingly similar to meningitis. Concerned, Leanne brought her child to the hospital, where doctors cleared Tia of danger and sent her home, saying she had a severe skin reaction.
Leanne told news agency Caters that there has been no improvement for a month now and the rash has spread from Tia's stomach to her neck, face, arms, and thighs. "It just keeps getting worse. Her skin is really itchy. It's really affecting her self-esteem," she said. "She just won't come out of her bedroom, she's really low about it."
None of the prescription creams Tia has tried to soothe the infection have worked, and she has been missing school as a result. According to Leanne, there were no warnings on the bath bomb other than to "keep away from babies."
"I'd say people shouldn't use these bath bombs, even if you don't have sensitive skin," said Leanne. "The labeling should have a warning."
Cosmopolitan UK reported that a Wilko spokesperson said the product had passed a safety test and the company was investigating the complaint.
"We're really sorry to hear of Mrs. Keating and Tia's situation and customer safety is paramount at Wilko," said the spokesperson. "This is the first incident we've been made aware of but we have launched an immediate and rigorous investigation and continue to liaise with Mrs. Keating."
Visit Cosmopolitan UK to learn more, but be warned: the image of Tia's rash may make some readers uncomfortable. Here's hoping she gets better soon.
Christian Siriano's Show Had Plenty of Pretty Gowns, but This T-Shirt Got All the Cheers
Christian Siriano debuted his Fall 2017 collection with a total of 52 looks that one way or another left the audience completely breathless. Copper metallics, silvers, and pops of pink were the popular choices in the designer's selection of evening wear. However, the one look that emitted the loudest cheers and claps from the audience was a plain black tee that simply read, "People Are People." Given the current political climate, the designer just made one heck of a statement on the catwalk. Scroll on to take a closer look at the entire collection.

H&M is in the business of defying expectations on the regular with its affordable fashion, but it's the work the brand is doing with its latest Conscious collection that will blow you away. Take for instance this dreamy, blush-pink gown that seems to float on air, modeled here by supermodel Natalia Vodianova, the face of the label's 2017 collection. You'd never guess that it was manufactured from recycled plastic collected from the shoreline. The very same plastic that's polluting our beach ecosystems was put to use to create a new sustainable polyester, called Bionic, used throughout the newest Conscious lineup. Launching in stores and online April 20, you can expect a full assortment of men's and women's casual- and formalwear, as well as kids' clothes and fragrance, available for the first time.

This Imaginative Game of Thrones Theory Explains How Jon Snow Will Discover the Truth About His Parents
Spoilers for season six below!
Game of Thrones has a way of letting viewers get the tiniest bit comfortable before completely ripping the rug out from underneath them - and because we've grown so confident in our assumptions about Jon Snow's origins and how he'll find out about his parents (likely from Bran, who discovers the truth after warging back to the Tower of Joy in the season six finale), it would come as no surprise if the show decided to totally shatter our expectations.
An imaginative Redditor felt the same way, and came up with an interesting alternative to Bran filling Jon in on the secret. In a long, detailed explanation that provides 18 separate citations (including both proof within the series and iconic fantasy tropes that likely inspired the show's creators), Reddit user jamieandclaire theorizes that Jon will learn the truth when exploring the Stark family crypt after retaking Winterfell. We know now that it didn't happen this way in the finale, but as crazy as it sounds, there's still a chance that it might occur in season seven.
To start, the theory purports that Ned Stark, wanting to honor his sister Lyanna's memory without endangering her half-Targaryen son (Jon), had a tomb built for Jon within the Winterfell crypts. It is a Stark tradition to prepare these graves far in advance, and the crypt is huge - there are multiple levels, one of which was blocked off to regular visitors by rubble. Here's how the Redditor suggests the revelation would go down:
Jon, upon retaking Winterfell, decides to go down into the crypts to visit Eddard's grave, but finds that Ned's bones haven't come to Winterfell yet. He instead passes by the future resting places of his siblings . . .
He stops for a moment, sad with the new knowledge that there is no life everlasting for him or his siblings. Then, remembering his nightmares [about the crypt] (or perhaps finding some clue in Ned's empty grave), he continues down to the lower levels of the crypt in the growing darkness.
His finds his way is blocked by rocks and rubble from the collapse. He considers going back, but something catches his eye beyond the obstruction. He begins pulling at stones, and sees another tomb, prepared and empty.
Clambering over the debris, he walks to the tomb and holds out the torch in the darkness, wiping away the dust from the slab. And this is what he reads.
While much of this theory is sound, some of the most convincing points actually come from the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, not the HBO show. Here are some of our favorite indications that Jon might learn his own story among the dead of Winterfell.
- Jon Snow has dreams that bring him to the depths of Winterfell's crypt: "And then I find myself in front of the door to the crypts. It's black inside, and I can see the steps spiraling down. Somehow I know I have to go down there, but I don't want to. I'm afraid of what might be waiting for me," Jon describes in the first book. Additionally, the Redditor notes that "when Ned is killed, Bran and Rickon both dream of him in the crypts, sad, saying something about Jon."
- Parallels between Bael the Bard's tale and the R+L=J theory: The story of Bael the Bard comes up multiple times in the series. Bael, the king beyond the Wall far before Jon's time, infiltrated Winterfell disguised as a singer and wooed Lord Stark's daughter. He "stole her away" (much like Rhaegar Targaryen is accused of doing to Lyanna Stark) in the middle of the night, leaving a blue Winter rose (Lyanna's favorite flower) in her bed. Many months later, the daughter returned with a baby of her own - she had never left Winterfell, simply hidden in the crypt. That son, the bastard of Bael the Bard, went on to rule the North. Can you see the connection between this lore and the theory about Jon's parentage? And it all comes back to one place: the crypt of Winterfell.
- Foreshadowing from ancient Targaryen lore: Another story repeated in the series, points out the Redditor's theory, is that of Vermax the Targaryen dragon. Vermax supposedly laid eggs in the Winterfell crypt during a visit from Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, creating a theme of Targaryens/dragons being hidden in Winterfell's hall of the dead.
- Ned Stark could totally have prepared Jon's grave in secret: Because the lower level of the crypt is blocked off by rubble, none of the Stark children or visitors would stray into the closed-off parts . . . plus, Ned Stark could have commissioned a stonemason to design the tomb without anybody finding out. Tyrion mentions in season two that stonemasons typically can't read - "He was a well-read stonemason? Can't say I've ever met a literate stonemason!" - which means that the words inscribed on the tomb would reveal nothing to the tradesman who carved them.
- This theme would honor the fantasy tradition of Lancelot: The story of Lancelot (orphaned as a baby only to become one of Arthur's knights) is arguably one of the most famous in fantasy lore, time and again inspiring authors and filmmakers. "Sir Lancelot . . . conquers a keep called the Dolorous Gard where Queen Guinevere is being held. He renames it the Joyous Gard. In the graveyard is a tomb covered by a giant jeweled metal slab, engraved to indicate that only the man who conquers the keep will be able to lift it. He lifts the tomb's slab with ease, and beneath it is written 'Here will lie Lancelot of the Lake, the Son of King Ban.' He thus learns he is a prince inside a grave," the Redditor wrote. The similarities between Jon's storyline and Sir Lancelot's - including the variations of a "tower of joy" where a woman is being held hostage - could be a huge clue that this theory is accurate.
So, do you buy this insanely detailed theory? To be honest, we're fairly convinced. While only time will tell if Jon discovers his own truth in Winterfell's burial place next season, we'd be totally on board if it ended up happening this way in the show, the books, or both.
These Are the Sexiest Hairstyles to Wear If You're Hooking Up
If there was ever an appropriate time to encourage others to "get some," it's Valentine's Day. The holiday of love is the best excuse to splurge on some sexy lingerie, try out some new toys, or stretch into that position your partner's been wanting to try.
But if there's one thing that can instantly negate all the feels that Valentine's Day gives us, it's sweaty, sticky sex hair. No, we're not talking about the windblown sex hair of the movies - we mean the result of the majority of intimate encounters: a matted mess of tangled strands and lost styling. However, there are some hairdos that fare surprisingly well while getting down and dirty with a loved one. Read on to discover your next late-night look.

Fifty Shades Darker: Dakota Johnson's Subtle Tribute to Her Mom's Working Girl Role
Melanie Griffith may never have watched daughter Dakota Johnson in Fifty Shades of Grey, but there's one big reason she should check out the franchise's second film: Fifty Shades Darker pays tribute to Griffith's Oscar-nominated role in Working Girl. As Ana settles into a new job, she tells her co-worker, "I don't expect you to fetch me coffee unless you're getting some for yourself." That's a direct line from the end of Working Girl, when Griffith's character finally gets her own assistant.
Even Johnson loves the nod, crediting screenwriter Niall Leonard for the idea. "That's my favorite part," Johnson told USA Today. "I thought it was the sweetest thing ever. Because when has that ever happened in the history of film? And that's also such an iconic line from Working Girl. So it's so special."
Please use this as an opportunity to watch Working Girl for the millionth time.

7 Foods to Absolutely Avoid If You Want Clear, Glowing Skin
Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story included a photo of Amy's Kitchen soup, implying that the can contained BPA. Amy's Kitchen cans do not contain BPA. This is a corrected version of the story. POPSUGAR apologizes for the error.
Two weeks ago, I went to Whole Foods and stocked up on coconut milk, almond butter, frozen veggies, fresh berries, organic meats, wild salmon, and quinoa. My boyfriend could interpret what this meant: Lauren is back on another food detox.
It started last Summer when I completed Dr. Frank Lipman's two-week Be Well Cleanse. This is a 14-day program in which you eliminate the food groups that most people are sensitive to, including gluten, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, nightshade vegetables, and eggs, among other things, replacing them with a plant-based diet that includes select organic lean meats and fish. You also drink three shakes a day incorporating Dr. Lipman's special blend of powders and take supplements. I learned a ton about myself, my habits, and my skin.
Though I have yet to return to the official cleanse, I do repeat some of the guidelines from it when I feel off-balance, seem bloated, or have less-than-desirable skin (blochy, broken out, puffy under-eyes). Typically, I try to eliminate gluten, dairy, and sugar for about a week or two until I feel and look better. Within three days of sticking to this diet plan, my skin brightens, I fall asleep easier and earlier, and my jeans fit better. It's not about dieting or losing weight; it's about creating harmony within my body. A healthy gut undeniably yields more gorgeous skin.
According to Dr. Lipman, "Your skin is your largest organ and a window into what's going on inside your body. Poor food choices that cause inflammation can lead to numerous skin issues."
If a cleanse is a bit dramatic for you, no worries. You can still reap some of the benefits by making these seven food swaps. Dr. Lipman outlined which foods to avoid, why they are toxic for your skin, and what to replace them with.

High-Heel Nails Are the New Trend Guaranteed to Take Your Manicure to New Heights
When it comes to nail art, there is no trend too bold, especially for artists at the South Korean salon Unistella. The same trendsetting artists who brought us the stunning wire nails are back with something just as glamorous: high-heel nails. No, these don't have red-bottom spikes shooting off the nail, but we promise, they are equally as chic.
The concept behind high-heeled nails is actually simple, and there are so many ways that you can up the ante. They are made with a thick stripe in the center of the nail, usually with negative space on each side. Alternatively, you can create a block of negative space surrounded by color. The wide center stripe is supposed to replicate the look of a heel.
The artists at Unistella have even incorporated the wire nail trend into some of their high-heel designs by placing a small piece of wire under the "heel," seen above. You can try this on all of your nails or even just on a few nails to keep things unique.

Sofia Vergara Has No Idea What "Hold Your Horses" Means, Is Adorably Bad at This Game
Sofia Vergara is always a funny lady, but this clip of her on The Ellen DeGeneres Show has us in tears. In the video, Sofia plays a game with Ellen, where she has to guess what expressions are represented by a series of emoji. Unfortunately, the Modern Family actress doesn't guess a single one correctly, proving English phrases are totally confusing when you're bilingual.
Among her hysterical guesses are "a potato chip with a sexy man" for the expression, "a chip on your shoulder" and "horseback ride me" for "hold your horses." It's hilarious to watch Sofia invent her own clichés, and the whole thing just made us love her even more.
Every Mysterious Quote We Have About Stranger Things Season 2
Ever since the first season of Stranger Things dropped way back in August 2016, we've been itching to get any and all information about season two. Luckily for us, February has already yielded a rush of new and exciting developments. In addition to an exciting Super Bowl trailer, we've also got locked in on a release date. To sweeten the deal even more Entertainment Weekly has given us our first concrete plot details, so we can officially begin obsessing over every single word to try and figure out what's to come. Read all the quotes below.
- Co-creator Matt Duffer teased some emotional baggage for Will Byers: "He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down. The question is whether they're real or not. So it seems like he's having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder."
- Duffer hinted at another more human villain in the episodes to come: "Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that."
- Winona Ryder revealed that Joyce has a new love interest (a former classmate): "She's trying to mask a lot. I think she's made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons' lives."
- Co-creator Ross Duffer shared how Barb and Eleven's perceived deaths affect the Wheelers: "[Nancy] and Mike are both the most screwed-up because they're the ones who both lost someone. They're both grappling with that, and we see the effects."
- Gaten Matarazzo dished on Dustin's new extraterrestrial pet: "It's a little creature I get to bond with. It's obviously not from this planet or this dimension."
- David Harbour described receiving his first script for season two: "I got the first script of season two, and the first five minutes I was on my feet going, 'Yes! Yes!' Because they open up the world in such a new way," he told Vanity Fair. "And these characters that I feel like are so iconic, and that we love so deeply, get to really go on different arcs and different journeys and explore these little things that we touched on in their personalities and psychologies. And we get to really expand on that . . . I really do think it's going to be thrilling."
- Harbour explained how Hopper must protect the town's secrets: "It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, 'This did happen and this didn't happen.' He's struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up."
- Harbour insisted that Barb is gone, but not forgotten: "We do deal with the loose ends in season two, and we do deal with some of the internet rage over Barb's death," he said to IGN. "We will have justice for Barb's death in some sense."

La La Land: Is That Really Ryan Gosling Playing the Piano?!
La La Land is the most enchanting movie of 2016, but besides the singing and dancing, one particular element will dazzle you: Ryan Gosling's piano skills. He plays a struggling jazz purist in the film, and there are some musical scenes that may cause you to wonder if it's really Gosling playing or a body double. Shocking as it may be, it's definitely Gosling playing the whole time!
"In fact, there's not a single close-up shot of [the character] Sebastian's hands in the entire movie that's a piano double," director Damien Chazelle said at a press event for the movie. "It's all Ryan." Even John Legend, who has a smaller part in the film, was impressed: "I was jealous, man," he said. "Watching him play, I was like, 'Wow, this guy is really good and he just learned this in the last few months.' It's pretty amazing."
According to Gosling, it took him three months of lessons to learn to play jazz piano: "The director wanted to shoot all those sequences in one take so there was no opportunity to squeeze in, or sneak in, a proper piano player." How is one person this talented?

The Surprising Way Legion Is Connected to the X-Men Universe
FX's new series Legion is a bizarrely beautiful, action-packed love story - that also happens to feature a lesser-known member of the X-Men. The show premiered on Wednesday, and unless you're a comic book buff, you may not have even realized that it's connected to the popular franchise. "Legion" is actually the mutant name of the main character, David Haller (Dan Stevens), who we meet in the first episode. Currently residing in a mental institution, David doesn't understand how his powers work, or even what they are. The pilot establishes that David has uncontrollable telekinetic abilities (like in Steven King's Carrie) and he can easily absorb the powers and personalities of those around him, which is why doctors, ignorant to the existence of mutants, diagnose him as schizophrenic.
So, how does Legion's story fit into the larger X-Men world? It's kind of impossible to tell Legion's story without talking about the characters we're familiar with: Legion is Professor X's son. Charles Xavier meets Gabrielle Haller while he is visiting a group of Holocaust survivors and attempting to ease their psychological pain with his telepathic powers. He has an affair with Gabrielle, she becomes pregnant, but keeps the baby a secret from his biological father. Legion and the Professor meet much later.
In the comic books, Legion's turning point comes when he accidentally murders an assassin who had killed his stepfather. He remains psychologically linked to the killer, whose personality remained in the recesses of his mind. The assassin, Jemail Karami, is one of three personas who are constantly at war in his brain; the other two are adventurer Jack Wayne and teenage girl Cyndi. He's gained telepathy, telekinesis, and pyrokinesis through these individuals, respectively. It doesn't appear that FX's series is following Legion's story to the T, but it's possible that we may eventually see shades of these characters since Legion does already exhibit these powers in the show.
As producer Bryan Singer said last year, it is "part of the X-Men universe, but when you watched it, you wouldn't have to label it - it could exist completely on its own." He noted that it "will relate to future X-Men movies." Because Legion eventually joins forces with the X-Men, it makes sense that his story will eventually intertwine with the links of Professor X, Rogue, and Magneto.

If These Quotes Don't Get You Excited About OITNB Season 5, Nothing Will
This week, Netflix released an intense new trailer and a release date for season five of Orange Is the New Black. Suffice it to say, excitement ahead of the next chapter is at an all-time high, especially when you think of all the burning questions we had after the fourth season finale. Unfortunately for us, there's still plenty of mystery surrounding what's coming up next. We have some behind-the-scenes snaps, sure, but new details pertaining to the next season have reduced to a trickle. So to puzzle out the plot, we've decided to collect all the bits of information we've gathered about season five.
- Taylor Schilling explained how things will heat up: "I think the stakes are higher in this season than they have been in a while," Schilling told E! News at the SAG Awards, "just by virtue of the compressed time and seeing people in compressed circumstance really raises the stakes. It's exciting to watch, I think for all of us."
- Danielle Brooks unveiled the season's very short time period: "Season five is done over the course of three days," Brooks revealed to E! on the SAG Awards red carpet. "It will be very detailed, very intense."
- Laverne Cox described her first reading: "What I can tell you is that I was just as excited as all the fans were to see what happens next," Cox explained to E! News. "When I read it, it was incredible, when we shot it, it was . . . intense. It's really, really intense. It manages . . . as intense as it all is, it still manages to have an irreverence and a spin that is funny and thoughtful."
- Uzo Aduba dished on Jenji Kohan's influence: "You can expect Jenji will . . . she will answer a lot of unresolved questions that season four left you with," Aduba reassured E! at the SAG Awards.
- Lori Petty believed Lolly would be back: "They have a lot to deal with right now," Petty explained to The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm just waiting on the phone call to get back on the plane. I'm sure it will come, but we have 13 episodes and they've got a lot to take care of, so we'll see. . . . Here's what I assume - and this is because it's all about me, right? - we go into psych and Mr. Healy was there and I'm screaming and crying."
- The marketing even suggests a big shake-up: The caption for the official teaser on YouTube warned, "Things will never be the same." The Twitter account, on the other hand, said, "There's no turning back."
You Won't Believe These Lego Instructions From the 1970s
Update:
Lego sent us an email confirming the message's authenticity. "Yes, the text is from 1974 and was a part of a pamphlet showing a variety of LEGO doll house products targeted to girls aged four and up from the 1970s," said spokesperson Roar Rude Trangbæk, who added that the text remains relevant to this day across every LEGO product.
Original story:
Recently, a photo of a Lego message to parents in the 1970s went viral on Reddit. Mostly because it looks so different from Lego's gender marketing of today.

Inspiring, isn't it? Some commenters have questioned the letter's authenticity, blaming poor formatting and font choice, but the poster alleges that it's real, and we've reached out to Lego for verification.
The letter reminds us of a wonderful Lego ad from the early '80s. Can we please have more like this and less like the sexist Barbie programming book?
