20 Ways Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events Is Different From the Books

Avid readers generally remain steadfast in their belief that the book is always better than the movie or TV show, but this isn't to say that some adaptations can't be good. In fact, the Harry Potter film series and The Lord of the Rings trilogy are excellent. Even Game of Thrones fans seem to acknowledge the HBO series as a worthy adaptation. One of the reasons fans have doubts is because making a book into a movie or television show usually means that things get lost in translation. Favorite characters disappear, the sequence of events is shifted, and the setting is usually changed to a more cost-effective filming location. Fortunately, Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events is a tried-and-true replica of the books . . . except for these changes. Major spoiler warning!

The Bad Beginning (Episodes one and two)

  1. The Baudelaire parents are alive . . . or, so we thought. No bodies are recovered in the fire, so we assume that Mother (Colbie Smulders) and Father (Will Arnett) are the children's parents. They escape their kidnappers, fight off a drunken mob and angry refrigerator repairman, and survive a plane crash, all the while hoping to reunite with their children. Towards the end of episode seven, however, viewers learn that they are actually parents to the Quagmire children, not the orphaned Baudelaires. Despite this meaning that the Baudelaire parents most likely did perish in the fire (which is true to the books), the events surrounding the Quagmire parents are unique to the TV series.
  2. On the show, Mr. Poe introduces Eleanora as his wife. In the books, Eleanora is actually Mr. Poe's sister, and his wife is named Polly.
  3. On the show, Mr. Poe's secretary Jacqueline is a secret VFD member who tries to keep the children safe from Count Olaf's clutches. However, her character doesn't exist at all in the books.
  4. Unlike the books, the meaning of VFD and the secret society are hinted at almost immediately. When Lemony Snicket enters into the remains of the burnt Baudelaire mansion, he says, "Neither the official fire department nor the volunteer fire department arrived in time to stop the blaze." The reference was quick, but it was there.

The Reptile Room (Episodes three and four)

  1. In the TV series, when the Baudelaires arrive at Dr. Montgomery's house, they continue to share a room (though luckily not a bed!), despite each getting their own rooms in the books.
  2. Excluding the final reveal that Stephano is Count Olaf in disguise, the Baudelaire trio doesn't spend a lot of time in the Reptile Room in the TV series. In the books, each child is given a specific job to do. Violet is responsible for inventing new snake traps, Klaus must read up on the species, and Sunny has to bite rope into manageable sizes.
  3. When Uncle Monty receives the coded message at the movie theater, it reads: "Hello Monty. Danger! Take the children on the SS Prospero to Peru." In the books, not only does the Sebald code work differently, the message read: "Attention! Hidden in the snowman is a survivor of the fire. Meet us in the town where this film takes place. Bring the three children. Your new assistant is not one of us. Beware!"
  4. In the TV series, Uncle Monty doesn't plan a trip to Peru until he receives the secret message instructing him to do so. In the books, he had been planning on doing it all along as a fun trip for the family.
  5. In the books, Uncle Monty confronts Stephano and tears up the tickets so that no one will be able to go to Peru. In the series, the tickets remain intact, and when Stephano gets his hands on them, he plans to kidnap the children and take them away. Even though his plan fails, he boards the ship himself, but is confronted by Jacqueline . . . which is another thing missing from the books.
  6. In the TV series, Stephano blames the Incredibly Deadly Viper for Uncle Monty's murder and the Baudelaires use Sunny as bait to prove that the snake isn't dangerous at all. In the books, the children use Sunny's relationship with the Viper as a distraction, while Violet snoops for proof that Stephano is Count Olaf. Furthermore, in the TV series, the Viper slithers free, whereas in the books, he's captured along with the other snakes.

The Wide Window (Episodes five and six)

  1. In both iterations, Aunt Josephine gives all of the Baudelaires gifts when they arrive. However, Klaus receives an electric train in the books, unlike the deck of cards he receives (and later re-gifts to Sunny so that she can play poker) in the series.
  2. In the books, the children accompany Aunt Josephine to the market and are there when she first encounters Count Olaf disguised as Captain Sham. In the series, the children stay behind and Aunt Josephine later surprises them by bringing Captain Sham home.
  3. In the books, Captain Sham calls Aunt Josephine on the phone to make their date. Terrified of being electrocuted, Aunt Josephine refuses to answer the phone so Violet does so instead. Realizing it's Count Olaf on the phone, Violet pretends it's the wrong number and that he's reached the Hopalong Dance School by mistake. Aunt Josephine finds Violet's answering the phone to be very brave, which gives her courage to answer herself when Count Olaf calls back. This entire sequence is missing in the TV series.

  1. In the TV series, a waiter (and secret VFD member) at The Anxious Clown suggests that the children eat peppermints to induce an allergic reaction that will free them of Count Olaf. In the books, eating the peppermints is Violet's idea.
  2. In the books, the gates to the docks are locked and the keys are in the hands of Count Olaf's henchman, who is standing guard. The children concoct a plan and battle the henchman, barely escaping his grasp. This entire sequence is missing from the series, where the children get onto the docks and steal a sailboat with ease.
  3. In the TV series, Count Olaf rescues Aunt Josephine and the Baudelaires from their sinking sailboat by letting them board the ferry. When he threatens to throw Aunt Josephine overboard to the leeches, she finally becomes the fierce and formidable woman she once was and stands her ground to protect the children (but is thrown overboard anyway). In the books, Aunt Josephine is much more spineless. She eagerly lets Count Olaf have the children and even vows to change her appearance, switch identities, and leave town forever if he will spare her. He agrees, but then pushes her overboard when she corrects his grammar.
  4. In the books, after Captain Sham is exposed as Count Olaf, he locks Mr. Poe and the children behind a gate so that he and his henchman can escape. In the series, the children hide in the back of a truck when no one is looking, escaping from both Count Olaf and Mr. Poe.

The Miserable Mill (Episodes seven and eight)

  1. In the books, Dr. Georgina Orwell is killed when she falls into the buzz saw. Potentially too graphic for television, this is adapted so that she burns in a furnace.
  2. In the books, Violet and Sunny sneak into Sir's library to read a book that Dr. Orwell donated and discover that secret words are used to hypnotize and control subjects. In the series, all three Baudelaire children learn this when they sneak into Dr. Orwell's office and overhear her discussing secret words with Count Olaf (disguised as Shirley the secretary). Furthermore, Violet and Sunny sneak into the Mill's library to read up on the history of the town fire, not hypnotism.
  3. At the end of episode eight, Count Olaf and his henchman escape the Mill before Mr. Poe arrives, causing him to disbelieve the children when they tell him of Shirley and Dr. Orwell's evil plan. Even Sir escapes the angry, un-hypnotized mob, and his partner, Charles, leaves the Mill to find him. In the books, Shirley and Foreman Flacutono are locked in the library and the adults (including Sir and Charles, who never flee the Mill) discover the left ankle tattoo, exposing them to be Count Olaf and his henchman in disguise.

This Rule Could Be the Key to Losing Weight

The 80/20 principle is no diet - it's a lifestyle change that can lead to sustainable weight loss. Folks who have suffered on rigid, limiting diets in the past find that this new rule teaches them about balance and moderation, a concept that never exists in a fad diet. When you practice 80/20, you have the space to go out socially and enjoy a meal (or a cocktail!) with friends, but most importantly, it makes the whole clean-living thing feel doable for the long run.

The breakdown is simple: 80 percent of the time you focus on eating clean, good-for-you foods, and 20 percent of the time you have the freedom to indulge as you please. Don't be concerned about the math, but it's simple: if you eat three square meals a day, three of those meals every week are your 20 percent cheat meals; if you eat five small meals a day, then seven of those small meals are up for grabs.

If you're worried about loosening the reins, look to Hollywood for 80/20 success stories. When we spoke to Jessica Alba's trainer Yumi Lee, Yumi credited the 80/20 rule when it came to Jessica's ability to maintain her healthy weight. She explains, "You can't be 100 percent all of the time, but you can be 80 percent all of the time." Yumi recommends small, frequent meals throughout the day, aiming to make healthy choices 80 percent of the time.

Supermodel Miranda Kerr has also explained how the 80/20 rule has done wonders for her relationship with food. Without guilt or conditions placed on meal choices, Miranda says, "Food is my friend, and consistency is the key. I believe that everything in moderation is best." We could not agree more.

Surprise, We're Still Not Tired of Hearing Ed Sheeran Perform "Shape of You"

On Tuesday, Ed Sheeran turned up in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform one of his latest hit singles, "Shape of You." We've seen so many iterations of the song in the past handful of weeks. In addition to releasing an acoustic version and a music video, the singer has also performed the song more than half a dozen times. With all that in mind, we're still over the moon about this performance, because the song is just that damn good. Check Sheeran out above.

The Dos and Don'ts For Increasing Your Sex Drive

Many women complain that they just don't have a strong sex drive, even though they did at one time. As you can imagine, this can sometimes cause problems in their relationship with their partners; but beyond that, a healthy sex drive makes us feel vital, electric, and alive! That powerful feeling of "lightning in your veins" doesn't have to go away, even as you age. You don't want to give that up if you don't have to.

Sometimes we explain away a low sex drive by saying, "I just don't have enough me time," or, "We just haven't had a date night in so long," or, "I've just been so busy with my job, or the kids, or whatever . . . " But the truth is that some lifestyle choices can kill your sex drive because they put your body under stress. Your overall libido is more about your body health than it is anything else. Anything that causes stress is a big don't for improving sex drive, while anything that addresses the stress in your life is a big DO!

DON'T:

1. Don't eat a high-carb or sugary diet.

  • A big libido killer is sugar, and white flour products like bread, pasta, pizza, and pastries that turn immediately to sugar.
  • Sugar raises insulin levels and the "trickle down" effect to sex hormones is detrimental. It alters the metabolism of testosterone that women need for a good, strong libido.
  • Sugar increases stress and decreases energy. Period.
  • Replace many of your carbohydrates with healthy fats and protein and see the difference!

2. Don't drink alcohol and use tobacco products.

  • Although many people turn to alcohol to get in the mood, it's not the best idea since it also turns directly to sugar in your bloodstream.
  • Most alcohol products contain toxins that stress your endocrine system, and all tobacco products contain toxins that stress your hormones.

3. Not taking care of yourself.

  • Research out of Duke University shows that carrying extra weight can affect your sex hormones and lowers libido.
  • Excess weight impedes blood flow to your lady parts, making it hard to get satisfied. And if you're not getting satisfied, it decreases your desire for sex.
  • Eating a diet of real food will help your body produce healthy hormone levels. Eat phytonutrient-rich foods like leafy greens (spinach, collards, kale, etc.), cruciferous vegetables and healthy fats like grass-fed meats, wild-caught fatty fish and nuts and seeds. Bone broth and high-fiber foods like berries and lentils also provide libido-supporting nutrients.

DO:

1. Get regular exercise.

  • Regular exercise helps with maintaining a better body weight, but it also bumps up your endorphins ("happy hormones") that make you more attractive and more desirous of connection with your partner.
  • Research shows that any activity that increases blood flow to the large muscle groups in the thighs, buttocks, and pelvis like yoga, brisk walking, or cycling for 20 minutes three times a week bathes the genitals with good circulation. This results in more lubrication, better arousal, and better orgasmic function.

2. Heal your gut.

  • Since a great deal of your Serotonin is produced in the gut, a healthy gut is necessary for feeling good enough to connect.
  • A leaky gut will eventually lead to chronic inflammation in your body. This can cause chronic muscle and joint pain which is a mood killer.

3. Get enough sleep.

  • Sleep specialists claim that sleep deprivation causes lower libido and less interest in sex.
  • Depleted energy, brain fog, daytime sleepiness, increased insulin, increased cortisol, and increased nervous tension are all results of sleep deprivation, and they all deplete sex drive.

4. Use adaptogenic herbs to address the stress in your life.

  • Nothing kills your libido like stress.
  • Adaptogenic herbs address the stress in your life by communicating with the HPA axis where stress starts.
  • Adaptogenic herbs give you energy while helping you remain calm and focused.
  • Adaptogens like those found here have been shown scientifically to increase libido.

The Parent Company of Burger King Purchases Popeyes

It's possible you'll soon see a new crop of Burger King-Popeyes combination restaurants, because Restaurants Brand International Inc., the company that owns Burger King and the coffee chain Tim Hortons, purchased Popeyes for $1.8 billion. If you're hoping this will mean more Popeyes locations will pop up around the States, it's likely! The CEO of RBI, Daniel Schwartz, stated in a press release, "We look forward to taking an already very strong brand and accelerating its pace of growth and opening new restaurants in the U.S. and around the world." Those who dream of being able to pair their favorite burger and fries along their go-to fried chicken and biscuits, there's no mention of such a development in the release. RBI confirms that "Popeyes will continue to be managed independently in the U.S." This may be good news for Popeyes fans who are worried this merger may affect the quality and taste of Popeyes famous food offerings.

Lauren Conrad Reveals Her Secret For Mastering a Stylish Instagram Feed

When we talked to Lauren Conrad about her popular clothing line for Kohl's, we had to take a quick pause to grill her about her gorgeous Instagram feed. If you didn't already know that it looks like a dreamy, pink mood board, perhaps you picked up on Lauren's social media prowess when she announced her pregnancy, offering a first glimpse at her maternity style.

Lauren's baby bump fit right in with the rest of her style snaps, which are usually fashion focused, but also provide a taste of adventure, with plenty of BTS shots, food 'grams, and manicures included. So, what's the secret sauce?

"I think as far as taking photos that have a softer appearance, it's really important to have good lighting honestly. I take photos all day long, but I only post once or twice a week because I do like consistency throughout a feed. I think it's about not sharing everything. For me, if you go back a little further, I had some photos that I would take in the evening. But in the last year or two I kind of stopped doing that. Almost my entire feed is taken during the day in natural light," she revealed.

Scroll for a look at some of Lauren's best work, and find a few more tips we gleaned ourselves while studying her pictures.

What You Need to Know About Reward Systems For Kids on the Autism Spectrum

The following post was originally featured on We Know Stuff and written by Denine Anderson, who is part of POPSUGAR Collective.

Do Reward Systems For Kids On The Autism Spectrum really work? This mom's opinion? It depends so be open to new ideas to see what works best for your child.

Everywhere you shop there seems to be some sort of reward system to keep you coming back. Whether points, stars or virtual punch cards, there is no shortage of gimmicks to get you to spend in order to save. As moms and dads, our parenting style can be similar. Who hasn't promised a treat at any point during a grocery store visit in an effort to avoid a meltdown? Or a stop at a favorite place if we all behave at Grandpa's house? But when it comes to autism parenting, does this reward model truly work?

This mom's opinion? It depends.

Experts will wax poetic on both the value and ineffectiveness of such a system for these amazing kids. The truth, it appears, lies somewhere in between. Just like everyone else on this planet, no two kids on the Autism Spectrum are exactly alike, which means the use (or lack of use) of a reward system will vary.

So, let's look at both sides of the punch card, so to speak. When do rewards tend to work? When don't they?

In our experience, and from talking with other parents, reward systems work best when the customer (in this case, kid) understands the age-old concept, "What's in it for me?" If you have a lengthy visit with friends or family, and your child craves some quiet time, promising that quiet time as a reward can be beneficial and work. If your child believes your word is your bond, then they will utilize "trust" and will likely cooperate, knowing they will receive their reward (down time) at a set point. Of course, we can switch out "quiet time" for any number of rewards, just as we can switch out "visit" with anything from behaving appropriately during shopping to the doctor's office, etc.

One of the ways rewards work best is when they are used using the language your child speaks. For some, this means the reward is a treat, for others, it is more screen time, while for others it is together time with mom and dad. Understanding what types of things are enjoyable for your child will help create a successful system for both of you.

However, such systems don't always work. Some of the reasons can be in the system itself. For example, if you have a rewards card for a store, but you must make 200 separate purchases to reach Level 1, you have little incentive to keep shopping. Or you burn out before you are close to hitting that mark. The same goes with kids. If you are asking a lot from your child and it will be quite a while until they realize that reward, then that system is likely to fail. For example, if you are traveling to visit family for a week and offer a reward for good behavior once that week is over, it probably won't work. (However, small rewards along the way might.)

Another way these systems can fail will also sound familiar. Oft times, our kids are smarter than we give them credit for, and some will learn to game the system. They will learn that if I act up in public, mom (or dad) will give me something to keep me quiet. And, yes, that's manipulation and it can start at any age.

One other way rewards don't work is that for some kids, it's not something they have any interest in. (Think about it; you don't give a steak house gift card to a vegan.) Think about something you absolutely avoid and detest doing. For example, for some, it's a ginormous roller coaster ride. For that individual, there is no reward in the universe that will encourage him to get on that ride.

When you consider your family and each circumstance where using a reward system is tempting, as yourself these questions:

1.) Is this a reward or a bribe? (Yes, there is a gray line here, but you get the picture.)

2.) Am I offering a reward when the reality is my child is manipulating me?

3.) Am I clear with my child on what is necessary to achieve the reward? (Autism Spectrum kids need crystal clear expectations.)

4.) Are my expectations realistic? (Autism Spectrum kids often have a hard time processing more than one directive at a time.)

For our family, we have used reward systems and they have worked but a few have failed. Like most things in parenting, much of it comes down to trial and error. Many studies do show that reward systems tend to work very well for Autism Spectrum kids, so be open to experimenting to find what works best for your situation.

Have you used a reward system with your family? How has it worked out for you? I'd love to hear from you!

The Han Solo Spinoff Movie Has a Stellar Cast

It's been over a year since a Han Solo spinoff film was announced, and things are finally heating up. The latest addition to the Star Wars universe will be the second stand-alone film in the franchise, meaning it exists outside of the Luke Skywalker saga (Episode I through Episode IX). The first "rogue" film of this kind, of course, was Rogue One, which chronicled the rebel seizure of the Death Star plans and hit theaters this past December. As is pretty customary, we haven't gotten may details about the new Han Solo film; we don't even have a title yet! What we have received, though, is a handful of casting announcements that are giving us a better idea of what we're in for.

Star Wars: Everything We Know About the Han Solo Spinoff Movie

And if you don't want to get permanently inked, try temporary ones.

The 6 Biggest Differences Between the Big Little Lies Novel and TV Show

When news broke that HBO was taking the reins in adapting Liane Moriarty's beloved mystery novel Big Little Lies, many wondered how the resulting miniseries might turn out - would the casting be on point? Would it still take place in Australia? Would the story still end with a shocking, twisted death? After watching the first handful of episodes (provided to the press by HBO), we can confirm that the show is not only exceptionally entertaining, but mostly faithful to the book. There are some key differences, though, which range from fairly minor to pretty major. Check them out below, and watch the show when it premieres on Feb. 19.

1. It's no longer set in Australia.

Perhaps the biggest difference is that Big Little Lies has been uprooted from the small, coastal Australian town of Pirriwee to posh Monterey, CA, though the core story is still the same: Jane Chapman (Shailene Woodley) moves there with her son, Ziggy, from Santa Cruz to start a new life. Monterey is also a seaside town, and each episode is full of gorgeous ocean shots and lush, green and blue tones. Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman) might have been the only one with real wealth in the book, but in the TV show, everyone who lives in Monterey (with the exception of Jane) also seems to have boatloads of money, which you can't miss thanks to the reels and reels of house-porn footage we're treated to in each episode (seriously - everyone who lives there has an oceanfront mansion?!).

2. Pirriwee Public gets an update.

Pirriwee Public is the school at the root of all of the events that go down in the novel, but in the show, it's Otter Bay Public. Don't worry, though, because there's still just as much (if not more) drama between the kindergarten parents and teachers at the ritzy public school to keep you entertained. The only big thing to note is that the vicious "Blond Bobs" (a group of rude, gossipy kindergarten mothers with matching haircuts) didn't make it into the show (Harper is still there to cause trouble, only she does it with long, brown hair).

3. Madeline doesn't have a son.

Incredibly girlie and dramatic, Madeline Martha Mackenzie (Reese Witherspoon) makes for one of the book's most interesting main characters. She's married to Ed (played by Adam Scott in the miniseries), and on top of her daughters, Chloe and Abigail, she also has a mischievous son named Fred. Unfortunately for him, his character doesn't exist in the miniseries.

4. Fringe characters in the book are more fleshed out.

Renata Klein is a high-powered career woman and mother of a little girl in Ziggy's kindergarten class at Pirriwee Public and also Madeline's main nemesis throughout the book. We only ever view her through the eyes of the book's main three characters - Jane, Madeline, and Celeste - but she gets a big makeover in the show. Laura Dern plays her, and she's a major character with her own backstory and scenes that make her a much more sympathetic figure, cluing us into her motivations and family life. Ed, Nathan (Madeline's ex-husband, played by Revenge's James Tupper), and Bonnie (Nathan's chill, yogi wife, played by Zoë Kravitz) also get more time in the spotlight. This works to varying effect, since you might find yourself itching to get back to the main drama surrounding Jane, Madeline, and Celeste in the scenes focusing on the others. Overall, it gives us a much more well-rounded set of characters.

5. Madeline's job with the community theater is a big part of the show.

In the novel, Madeline references her part-time job helping out in the marketing department of the local theater a few times in passing, but we don't really get to see her in action. The show turns that small part of her life into its own full-blown storyline, with her fighting against fellow kindergarten mom Renata for the right to put on a controversial production of Avenue Q.

6. Ed and Madeline's relationship is much more strained.

Although Ed and Madeline seemed to be comfortable in their suburban family rut in the book, their marriage faces quite a few more ups and downs in the miniseries. Scott and Witherspoon work well together on screen and really sell the rougher, realistic bumps their relationship stumbles over, but any fans of their loving romance in the book might come away from the show disappointed.

10 Celebrities You Didn't Know Had Oscars

The Oscars are always filled with a few surprising moments, including the winners' circle. Even though this year's Academy Awards haven't taken place yet, there are quite a few winners from years past that you may have forgotten about. Did you know talk show host Oprah Winfrey has a humanitarian award? What about rapper Eminem's best original song? Here are 10 celebrities you didn't realize have Oscars.

This Is How All Your Favorite Chefs Make Scrambled Eggs

One of the most basic recipes everyone learns is scrambled eggs, but the truth is perfectly scrambled eggs are a lot trickier than they seem. Much like the classic omelet, scrambling eggs is one cooking method on which many chefs differ. To whisk in a bowl or in the pan? To add dairy or to not? Minor tweaks can make huge differences in something so basic, and we guarantee you'll want to change up your scrambled egg routine with tips from these experts - they know a thing or two about recipe developing. Here's how some of our favorite chefs scramble their eggs (we're not kidding when we say Gordon Ramsay's method is a game changer).

Alton Brown: Whisk With Whole Milk

Simple yet effective is the name of the game in Alton Brown's scrambled egg recipe. Adding whole milk isn't his only tip, though. "Odds are you're going to be serving these on a plate. If so, I strongly suggest you park an ovensafe one in a low oven or in hot water while you're cooking. Cold plates suck the heat right out of food," his recipe description reads.

Giada De Laurentiis: Frittata Cupcakes

Giada's preferred method of scrambling eggs involves a mini muffin tin - she likes to make frittata cupcakes. She told POPSUGAR in an interview, "I love making my little cupcakes - frittata cupcakes. I just stick whatever's left in the fridge. Whatever it is that was from the night before, whether it's leftover pasta, leftover meat, leftover vegetables . . . Another favorite is lox, scrambled eggs, and peas - for a little color. For a Sunday morning, it's one of my favorite go-to breakfasts."

Gordon Ramsay: Low and Slow (With a Secret Ingredient)

Gordon Ramsay's scrambled eggs recipe is one everyone must try at least once. The finished product looks more like custard, and thanks to his cooking method and a secret ingredient, they're melt-in-your-mouth good.

Chrissy Teigen: "Cheesy" Eggs, Hold the Cheese

Chrissy Teigen swears by her method of creating "cheesy" eggs without the cheese, thanks to her secret ingredient: heavy cream. Her tip for getting them as creamy as possible with no browned spots? "Don't stop gently stirring and scraping (edges and all) for more than a few seconds!"

The Pioneer Woman: Smoked Salmon and Chives

Like most Pioneer Woman recipes, this one sounds delightful. Calling them the "best scrambled eggs ever", Ree Drummond suggests sprinkling in chopped smoked salmon after the eggs are cooked and then garnishing with chopped fresh chives.

Mario Batali: Topped With Shaved Truffle

Leave it to Mario Batali to bring some serious culinary chops to such a basic recipe. To make scrambled eggs special, Mario suggests adding mascarpone or parmesan cheese, but to make them "spectacular," garnish with shaved truffle.

Why Princess Diana Always Ditched Her Hat on Hospital Visits

Ahead of the Princess Diana fashion exhibit that's opening at Kensington Palace this week, curator Eleri Lynn talked details with Vogue. Lynn discussed some of Diana's most memorable pieces and the occasions for which she'd wear them. While Diana wore plenty of glamorous gowns and stunning tiaras, there's a sweet story behind her modest floral "caring dress," which she frequently wore on hospital visits.

Princess Diana was photographed in the look at a São Paulo, Brazil, shelter in 1991, wearing no hat or gloves, but a gold choker, matching studs, and a long pendant. "You'll notice she is not wearing gloves. That's a royal protocol that she ditched because she liked to hold hands with people and make skin-to-skin contact," Lynn told Vogue, also explaining that she chose the costume jewelry for children to play with and nixed headwear because "you can't cuddle a child in a hat."

Scroll for a look at what was surely one of Princess Diana's most sentimental outfits.

The first photo from the set (filming began on Feb. 20) shows the lead, alongside cast members Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo (as Chewbacca!), and codirectors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. When a 10-Year-Old Was Stumped on Her Math Homework, She Asked Local Police For Help

When a fifth grader came across a difficult math homework problem, she treated it like an emergency - and enlisted help from local police to solve it. Ohio resident Lena Draper reached out to the Marion Police Department via Facebook message with her plea, and they quickly came to her aid.

The 10-year-old was having trouble finding a solution to the problem (8 + 29) x 15, and the person behind the department's Facebook account explained exactly how to find the answer: by adding the numbers in parentheses first and then multiplying by 15.

But then things got a bit more complicated, as Lena replied with yet another tricky problem: (90 + 27) + (29 + 15) x 2. Someone from the department replied, explaining, "Take the answer from the first parenthesis plus the answer from the second parenthesis and multiply that answer by two."

If you recall that trusty math abbreviation PEMDAS, which stands for parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction, you'll realize that whoever attempted to solve that second problem was actually incorrect. Lena should've added the numbers in the second parentheses first, multiplied that number by two, and then added it to the numbers in the first parentheses.

Lena's mom, Molly Draper, shared screenshots of her daughter's Facebook messages with the world, and the department shared her post, writing, "We do aim to be a full service police department after all." Even though the police department gave Lena the wrong answer, we still can't help but say "aww" at this adorable interaction. It's the thought that counts!

Halima Aden Wears Her Hijab For CR Fashion Book's 10th Edition Cover

Last year, Halima Aden's name started trending because she wore a burkini (a modest swimsuit) in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant. Fast-forward to 2017 and Halima, a first-generation Somali-American, not only signed with IMG Models - the same agency that represents Gigi and Bella Hadid - but also landed a photo shoot for CR Fashion Book, run by renowned stylist Carine Roitfeld, and made her runway debut in Kanye West's Yeezy Season 5 show at Fashion Week.

"Halima is breaking boundaries of beauty and perception by being herself," said Carine, who revealed the 19-year-old caught her eye. "I find this incredibly inspiring, and I know she will be an icon."

The 10th edition of the book will be out on March 2 and Halima graces one of the two covers in her hijab. When asked about her being called a hero, Halima said:

"I wish I could tell them, 'Hey, I'm not a perfect Muslim.' A lot of people had a misconception that I would be the perfect poster child for Islam. So I got a lot of Instagram comments like, 'Oh, you don't have your neck covered, you're not a Muslim!' My thing is, stop judging women, especially if you're a man, because you don't know the responsibility that comes with wearing a hijab."

Keep your eyes on on Halima, because this future top model is just getting started.

This Magical, Color-Changing Dye Turns Your Head Into a Mood Ring

If you're a hair-dye addict who can never settle on just one color, this new formula is about to cast a spell on you. Lauren Bowker, a visualization scientist and self-professed witch, has invented color-changing dye. Laura's company, THEUNSEEN, collaborated with Storm Models on this project, which is titled FIRE.

The dye she created for FIRE responds to changes in temperature (like a mood ring!) and changes to a drastically different hue. When temperature hits the hair, it changes the chemical bonds, creating a reaction, which transforms the color from red to blue. Other versions of her hair dye use chemistry and light refraction to create a shift in color similar to one you'd see in a prism. This creates a hair color that looks one shade indoors and another outdoors.

This isn't the first time Laura has created bewitching products. At the THEUNSEEN Emporium, you can shop Laura's amazing color-changing purses, phone cases, and backpacks. Celebrities like Mindy Kaling have showcased Laura's creations on the red carpet.

You might think this technology is dark magic, and if that's the case, Laura doesn't mind. She told Dazed she's totally down with the occult, has been mixing potions since childhood, and describes herself as alchemist and witch.

"Old school female chemists and doctors had a really bad time with the church and were depicted as witches," she says. "Now the occult has bad connotations of being a dark art and being taboo. When really it's just a spiritual way of living . . . To me, chemistry and science is witchcraft - and so it should be."

The dye hasn't been release to the public yet, but don't despair. According to Wired, the dye is already going through necessary testing for toxicology so it can be made available for salons. Read on to witness the mystifying hair colors.

7 Things People With Clean Kitchens Do Every Day

Do you hate to cook? Do you turn your nose when entering your kitchen and hurry out the door once your microwave beeps, signaling your frozen burrito is ready? And if we're really being honest, have you forgotten the last time you changed out your sponge or scrubbed the stove free of pasta-sauce splatters? It sounds like you have a messy kitchen. Marie Kondo, the New York Times bestselling author of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up sympathizes. That's why she developed a system, which is called the KonMari Method, that allows anyone, even the seemingly hopelessly messy, can take on successfully.

If you're curious about her unique purging technique, read about my experience of using the KonMari Method in my kitchen. After you've trashed all the dishware, cooking tools, and pantry items that don't "spark joy" - aka make you happy when you see, touch, and use them - it's time to take on these daily habits of people with clean kitchens to keep your own space neat without intense effort.

  • Keep Everything Off the Kitchen Counter
  • I know, this one seems like a tough one, yet your blender, sugar bowl, coffee maker, and other knickknacky things not only take up space on your counter, but they also actually make it impossible to clean. They gather dust and oily muck on and around them, and you ignore it. The person with a clean kitchen wipes down all appliances, etc. with a warm, damp sponge before storing the items in shelves or cabinets. Yes, even those things they use every day.

  • Wipe the Stove, Sink, and Counter With Each Use
  • Marie Kondo says, "Tidying your kitchen means wiping away any water or oil." If there's nothing on your stove, sink, or counter, it suddenly becomes really easy to run a sponge over these areas every day to clean up any splashes or spills. Ta-da! No crumbs or mysterious stains to be seen.

  • Keep Dish Soap and Sponges Under the Sink
  • Having tried this out myself, I can attest to its effectiveness. After washing dishes, simply squeeze out the sponge and keep it in a wire sponge holder under the sink along with your soap and rubber gloves. It's a surprising trick to keep your kitchen looking neat and inviting.

  • Store the Trash Can Under the Sink
  • There's something off-putting about having a trash can in the middle of the kitchen, even one with a sleek stainless steel design. Storing your trash can under the sink keeps it out of sight and out of mind. I also love taking the trash out more frequently so my kitchen never smells.

  • Wash and Dry Dishes Immediately
  • If you have a drying rack in your kitchen, get rid of it! It makes it all too easy to pile on the dishes without ever putting them away, plus the wet drippings pool and grow all sorts of gnarly things. Instead, do as the tidy person does and wash and dry the dishes immediately after a meal.

  • Keep About 30 Percent of Your Fridge Empty
  • Ever wonder where you are going to put your leftovers or newly bought groceries? If you always have a few clear spots in your fridge, it makes it easy to find a designated spot for new things.

  • Give Each Thing a Definite Home (Away From the Stove)
  • Though it's tempting to want to stash kitchen tools, spices, oils, etc. near the kitchen stove for easy access, this is a recipe for disaster. As things cook, the oil often splatters onto these items. In addition, the heat can drastically reduce the storage life of spices and oils, rendering them stale and rancid. Instead, store everything away from the stove. Before cooking, pull out all the equipment and food stuff you may need, and put each thing away, item by item, after its use. This makes cleanup way easier.

Read This Before You Order Starbucks's Limited-Edition Butterscotch Latte

Starbucks and Harry Potter fans, hold onto your sorting hats. If you're dying to try butterbeer but are just not going to take the time to make it at home, you're going to want to try Starbucks Smoked Butterscotch Latte. We were skeptical when we heard claims that the drink resembled butterbeer, so we turned to our resident Harry Potter World experts, and guess what they said? "Tastes like straight-up butterbeer."

The main difference, of course, is the coffee taste - real butterbeer is free of coffee, so if you want the closest thing to the Harry Potter drink without having to travel, order the latte with no espresso so it becomes steamed milk, smoked butterscotch syrup, and a sprinkle of smoky butterscotch sugar on top.

That's not to say the drink was well liked by everyone. Other co-workers' comments were "tastes like sweet milk," "doesn't taste like butterscotch," and "not sweet - too smoked." Obviously everyone's palates (and coffee preferences) are different, so there's no guaranteeing you'll like it or not, but the limited-edition drink is worth a try if you're a butterscotch (or butterbeer) fan.

This NSFW Song Dubbed Over Peppa Pig Is Absolutely Hilarious

Ahh, Peppa Pig, a show that kids collectively love and parents adamantly can't stand. Between the awkward and constant snorting, continuous offensive references to Daddy Pig's weight, and the annoying freakin' narrator who never hits a period, the show is a miss for most parents - but for whatever reason, kids are obsessed.

Luckily for all of us in the "Can't Stand Peppa" corner, someone on Twitter dubbed over a scene of the show with death metal band Bring Me the Horizon's NSFW song, "Antivist," and it's absolutely hilarious. In the scene, Peppa's friends are talking about what kind of music they like when one explains that they aren't fans of children's music (the one thing we've ever had in common with Peppa Pig characters). When he asks Peppa what kind of tunes she enjoys, the little piglet says: "I like this. It's very grown up."

As Peppa hits play on her cartoon boom box and "Antivist" starts blasting, she begins doing the dance to "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" (the song that actually plays in the scene), and we promise you won't be able to help laughing. Watch the video above - without your kids - and enjoy a brief moment of relief from the numbness that comes with watching episode after episode of this ridiculous kid's show.

8 Things You Never Knew About Starbucks, Straight From a Former Employee

I spoke to a former Starbucks employee who worked there for about three years, and she gave me all the insider details I wanted to know. What's it really like to work there? Do baristas really rip off customers by intentionally underfilling lattes? What's the deal with the secret menu? Behold, her tell-all responses:

You can ask for light ice in your iced drinks to get way more for your money.

"If you order an iced drink, ask for light ice and you will get way more of whatever was in your cup."

And to save money on hot drinks, order it in a bigger cup.

That's right. You can order a grande latte "in a venti cup," and you'll basically be getting the larger drink for the smaller price. "Most baristas will be lazy and just make a lot of steamed milk and fill the bigger cup up all the way to the top."

The one thing that drives baristas INSANE is . . .

Saying, "Actually, can I get that cold?" after you've already ordered a hot drink. It's an inconvenience and someone has probably already started making your drink the way it was ordered.

Baristas are NOT asked to "underfill" lattes.

Although Starbucks faced a lawsuit for underfilling its lattes, this barista assures us that is not a company-endorsed policy for saving money. If your drink is less than impressive, the problem might be . . . you. She elaborated, "No one has ever said anything about that. I always filled my cups to the brim like we were told. But the truth is, most of the time if your drink sucks, you were probably rude to the barista and they didn't like you. So be kind!"

Employees receive great benefits.

"If you're full-time, you get dental and health insurance options. The one amazing thing I got from working there was my stock in Starbucks: over three years, I made about $400 when I finally sold my share."

If you love coffee, it's the best job.

You don't even have to be a morning person to enjoy working at Starbucks. "Making coffee is soothing, especially at 4 a.m. when all you want to do is stick your nose in the grounds and wake up." You also get to drink unlimited drinks - for free! This woman loved her Starbucks job and highly recommends working there: "I loved it very much. We were more of a family there," she said.

You CAN order from the secret menu, but it's discouraged.

You're probably aware that a not-so-secret Starbucks secret menu exists, but it's not something the company endorses. "Most of the time our managers didn't want us to make them because technically they're not on the menu. I didn't care about making them really, except when people got mad because it 'didn't taste the same as the other Starbucks.' Well, that would be because it's made-up, and there's no real way to make those drinks." So order your secret menu Frappuccinos with caution.

Starbucks really does donate all unsold food.

Ever wonder what happens to all those unsold pastries at the end of the day? Starbucks recently announced its plans to donate 100 percent of all leftover food to feed the hungry, and this former employee confirmed that her location has practiced this all along. "I know a lot of people think that's fake, but I personally packed the food and have seen it get picked up by different organizations. If you're in need of food, try asking your local Starbucks when they close."
