NYC's Cookie Dough Shop Is What Your Childhood Dreams Are Made Of

Remember being young and wanting to eat all the cookie dough that your mom was trying to bake into cookies? And your mom would tell you you shouldn't do that because of the eggs but you did it anyway, because cookie dough is God's gift to our stomachs? Yeah, Do Cookie Dough Confections creator Kristen Tomlan absolutely understands that, which is why she created a cookie dough that can be eaten raw. Her recipes use a pasteurized egg product and heat-treated flour, so you can rest assured that they're fully safe to eat by the scoopful.

I popped into Do's brand-new storefront in New York to check out this cookie dough that's taking over Instagram to see what all the hype is about, and you guys: I get it. Do is an experience. The employees are all upbeat and friendly and really passionate about the sweet treats they're handing over to you, and let me tell you, those sweet treats are amazing. The cookie dough menu contains 16 flavors, including gluten-free and vegan options, and I tried every last one. You can't go wrong with selecting the Signature Chocolate Chip option, which Kristen credits as being the most popular. "We easily sell three times as much of the Signature than any of the other flavors. Easily," she said.

All the dough is made on site, and you can even peek into the kitchen through the large glass windows while you're waiting in line for your dough creation. The shop goes through more than 1,000 pounds of dough in a day, which is no surprise considering the fact that the shop constantly has a line across the street to get in. I wondered if there was a magical time to show up to find the shortest line, and guess what? There isn't. It's always at least an hour long, but it's so worth the wait.

Once you've made it inside the shop, here is exactly what you should do: go to the fridge and get a container of the Signature Chocolate Chip for later. When you get to the counter, you have two ideal options: if you're into peanut butter, go with Fluffernutter (peanut butter base with dark chocolate chips and marshmallow fluff) and Nuts For Nuts (peanut butter base with peanut butter cups and candies) in a chocolate chip cone; if you're not into peanut butter, do Heavenly (sugar cookie base with Nutella, chocolate chips, caramel bits, and sea salt) with Brownie Batter (brownie batter base with chocolate chips) in a chocolate chip cone. Obviously add sprinkles on top no matter what you get, because everything is better with sprinkles.

Your container of the Signature Chocolate Chip will last in the fridge for up to three weeks or in the freezer for up to three months and can even be baked into real cookies, but let's be real, nothing is lasting more than three hours or ever making it into an oven.

Look through for a sneak peek at Do's shop and make sure you check it out for yourself if you're in the area. Your taste buds and your stomach will thank you.

You're Going to Wish These Mermaid Macarons Were Part of Your World

We really and truly can't get enough macarons, and the more magical the better. Enter the mermaid macaron. We first saw them in this hipster Little Mermaid wedding shoot. Then, Instagram jumped ship and started decorating oyster-style cookies that are decorated more figuratively like mermaids than literally like mermaids. They're effortlessly elegant for an under-the-sea-themed party or soiree. The sandwich tops are tilted so a pearl can peek through, and the cookies are dusted in shimmer for that extra hint of whimsy. Look through to get inspired for your next mermaid-themed get-together.

The 1 Cooking Tool That You Just Might Love More Than the Instant Pot

You might still be getting up to speed with the Instant Pot, but there's another cooking tool that just might become even more popular: the Fagor Lux Multi Cooker. Both tools are multicookers, meaning they can function as both a slow cooker and a pressure cooker, and each offers additional features like rice cooking and sautéing. So what's the real difference between the two, and which one is ultimately better? Take a look ahead to compare some of the main differences, and decide which one might be a better fit for you.

The Prices

Instant Pot: $100 on Amazon
Fagor Lux Multi Cooker: $130 on Amazon

The Settings

While there are similarities (both can sauté, cook rice, slow cook, steam, and pressure cook), there are a few differences in the display settings.

Instant Pot: soup/broth, meat/stew, cake, eggs, multigrain, and porridge
Fagor Lux: brown, yogurt, simmer, and risotto

The Reviews

Instant Pot: When we made chicken soup in the Instant Pot, we were amazed by the efficiency - the pot cooked chicken breasts in less than 10 minutes. With the ability to sauté garlic, cook chicken, and make soup all in one pot in 20 minutes, we were officially convinced of the Instant Pot's legitimacy. On Amazon, the Instant Pot has a rating of four and a half out of five stars, based on more than 16,000 customer reviews. One reviewer wrote, "My go-to appliance in the kitchen. Cooks beautifully in just minutes. I've cooked everything from pulled pork and beef stew to a whole spaghetti squash and broccoli cheddar soup." Others claim it has a short lifespan and that it "quit working after four months."

Fagor Lux: When Good Housekeeping editors tested the Fagor Lux, they found plenty of pros, like the fact that it came up to pressure quickly, was great at pressure-cooking and slow-cooking beef stew, and had intuitive, easy-to-read controls. With a rating of four-and-a-half stars out of five, their Fagor Lux review beat out the Instant Pot, whose review received four stars. On Amazon, however, the reviews are slightly lower than the Instant Pot's: an average rating of four stars out of fewer than 200 reviews. "It's the most practical/convenient cooking appliance you'll ever have," one reviewer wrote, while others are offering one-star reviews because of the tool's inability to last. "It worked great but only for a little over a month," one person said, while another said hers died after five uses.

Ultimately, it might take a little trial and error to decide which appliance you like best. Are you willing to try these out, or are you a slow-cooker fan for life?

George Clooney Encourages Us "Not to Let Hate Win" in His Anti-Trump Césars Speech

George Clooney was given an honorary award at the César Awards in Paris on Friday, and used his time on stage to address the "hate" and "fear" being propagated by US President Donald Trump. After making a stunning arrival on the red carpet with his pregnant wife, Amal, George was joined onstage by The Artist star Jean Dujardin, who translated his words to French (the César Awards are the French equivalent of the Oscars). He urged the audience "not to confuse dissent with disloyalty," adding, "As citizens of the world, we're going to have to work harder and harder not to let hate win." George told the crowd to "love Trump's hate, courage Trump's fear, and always right Trump's wrongs."

Also during his speech, George alluded to Amal's pregnancy with twins - his mom recently spilled the beans that they're having a boy and a girl - saying that he is "excited about the years, and especially the months, to come," and telling the audience how proud he was to be the civil rights attorney's husband.

7 of the Best Foods to Fight Inflammation

Whether it's aches and pains, stiffness, headaches, indigestion, stomachaches, yeast imbalances, viruses, low energy, weight gain, or free-radical damage, it often goes back to two things: acidity and inflammation.

To understand how acidity plays a role in producing bodily inflammation, you first have to understand pH, or the measure of a solution's acidity or alkalinity from 0 to 14, 0 being the most acidic, and 14 being the most alkaline. Our bodies need a very specific pH balance to function and maintain homeostasis. Even slight changes to the pH of our blood, for instance, can be extremely problematic.

Our grocery stores and diets are overrun with highly acidic foods. Caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, sugars, refined flours, pasteurized dairy, and animal protein are all highly acidic forming in the body, and if you are eating these on a regular basis, chances are you may experience at least some sort of chronic symptom of inflammation. Even natural processes of the body produce acidic byproducts. Stress also contributes greatly to an acidic environment.

So what can we do? How do we reverse the effects of these highly acidic foods and actions? Just as food plays a role in producing an acidic environment, it can be transformative and healing to the body, reducing inflammation and creating an environment that supports health.

The goal should be to consume 80 percent alkaline foods and 20 percent acidic foods. Not all acidic foods are unhealthy necessarily; however, extremely acidic foods like those stated above should be greatly minimized. Fresh fruits and vegetables that have been lightly seasoned and cooked should be the focus of your diet.

Below is a list of some of the most anti-inflammatory foods your should be adding to your diet daily to restore alkalinity and relieve inflammation. Fight inflammation in the kitchen, not the pharmacy, with:

Green Leafy Vegetables

Leafy greens are full of nutrition, loaded with alkalizing minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory omega 3 fatty acids. Load up on kale, chard, spinach, lettuces, bok choy, etc, daily. In addition, fruits and vegetables in general should make up most of your plate at every meal.

Turmeric

This South Asian rhizome has long been used and prized for its anti-inflammatory properties. Today, you can find it just about anywhere - in juices and smoothies to supplements and teas. The main compound responsible for its anti-inflammatory benefits, curcumin, has been used to fight simple colds and flus, Alzheimer's disease, liver damage, prevent cancer, and of course relieve inflammation.

Fish Oils

By now most of us know the importance of omega-3 fatty acids and their role in relieving inflammation. The best source for these fatty acids is fish; however, some sources are better than others. Top of the food chain, large ocean fish can contain high levels of mercury and other heavy metals. Stick to wild salmon, or smaller, oilier fish such as sardines and anchovies. Fish oils can also be taken as a supplement. I recommend taking fermented cod liver oil. In addition to omega 3 fatty acids, it also supplies necessary D and A vitamins in a more bioavailable form.

Berries

Berries in general are lower in sugar than most fruit and contain large quantities in inflammation-reducing antioxidants. Blueberries and dark-colored berries especially, due to their high levels of the antioxidant quercetin, and are especially anti-inflammatory.

Walnuts

Walnuts are not only an excellent source of protein, they are also a source of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E. Consuming walnuts regularly may help to support brain health and function and reduce inflammation throughout the body.

Bone Broth

There is plenty of reason to get behind bone broth. Full of core and essential nutrients and alkalizing vitamins and minerals, bone broth supplies a healthy dose of easily assimilated nutrients from calcium, magnesium, silicon, and phosphorus, as well as collagen, hyaluronic acid, protein, and connective tissues to aid in reducing inflammation and supporting the joints, skin, and bones.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a highly anti-inflammatory fat that is made up of mostly MCFAs, or medium-chain fatty acids, which are easier to digest and not readily stored as fat. In addition, coconut oil contains antimicrobial and antifungal properties from caprylic, lauric, and capric acids, aiding in reducing inflammation, lowering high blood pressure, improving energy, and boosting the immune system.

The Vampire Diaries: Who Is Most Likely to Die in the Finale?

There are a few episodes left of The Vampire Diaries, and we can already tell that the final goodbye is going to be a tough one. Not only are a handful of old cast members returning, but we recently learned that the finale will also feature a major character death. While we definitely know that Elena Gilbert will be one of the attendees at the funeral, the fate of the rest of the characters is still up in the air. Since we love theorizing about the show, we're breaking down the five most likely suspects for that HUGE plot twist. Read at your own risk.

5. Matt

Could Matt's family have even more dark secrets? It's possible that Maxwell hell bell had some lingering magic left in it that could lead to his death. Although, if we're being completely honest here, Matt has managed to stay alive, and human for that matter, for eight seasons, so we don't really think Julie Plec would decide to kill him off now.

4. Caroline

Caroline's death would certainly be the most unexpected. Maybe she decides to take the cure to be human with Stefan and something goes wrong? Although, out of all the characters, Caroline has always been the most content with her vampirism. We can't see her compromising that for a guy, even if it is Stefan Salvatore.

3. Bonnie

Unless Kai breaks his spell, Elena's life is still linked to Bonnie's. And seeing that Nina Dobrev is officially returning for the finale, we can't help but wonder if that means BonBon will meet an untimely demise. Although, the way Plec has talked about how emotional the finale will be, her death seems a bit too on-the-nose.

2. Damon

This death would definitely be a blow to the heart. Not only is the final scene set at the Salvatore house, but Entertainment Weekly did say that Elena would be the last person to say goodbye at the funeral. Perhaps she was having one final moment with her true love? While we can only imagine the water works this scene would cause Delena fans, Plec did confirm that Elena and Damon will come face to face in the finale.

1. Stefan

Ever since Stefan took the cure and become mortal, he has been fixated on making up for his past sins. Could the final key to redemption and making up for turning Damon into a vampire be reuniting him with his true love? Perhaps, instead of Bonnie dying, Stefan finds a way to link his life with Elena's instead. Not only did Paul Wesley admit to tearing up over his final script, but he also revealed that his final scene is with Dobrev. What if the finale teaser is actually Stefan saying his last goodbye?

Darth Maul as Supreme Leader Snoke? It's More Likely Than You Think

Going into all the madness surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we've got quite a few mysteries to figure out. Not only are we trying to unpack the meaning of "the last Jedi" and uncover the identity of Rey's parents, but we've also got one big question to answer on the dark side: who the hell is Supreme Leader Snoke? We came up with a few theories of our own, but we couldn't help but notice the kind of fodder elsewhere on the internet. That's when we happened upon one truly crazy theory: that Snoke is actually a villain we've seen before - Darth Maul. Let's go over how it could prove true.

1. Darth Maul Is Not Dead

We all remember how Obi Wan Kenobi brutally cuts Darth Maul in half in The Phantom Menace and lets him fall to his death. It seems pretty definitive. But, well, Darth Maul goes on to appear in the TV shows The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. While many reject these TV series as official parts of the Star Wars canon, it's worth noting that Disney has begun producing them. This would mean that all creative decisions made pertaining to the TV shows are likely made with the events of the films in mind. Plus, if Darth Vader can lose half his body from lava burns and survive, there's a chance Darth Maul could too. Even his official bio on StarWars.com corroborates the fact that he did not die.

2. It Would Explain One of Snoke's Most Telling Comments

The whole reason we're attempting to trace Snoke back to a Star Wars character we've already met is because he says one very crucial thing in The Force Awakens. Snoke reveals that he witnessed the rise and fall of the Galactic Empire. Considering how the rise of the Empire happens in the first trilogy (Episode I to Episode III) and the fall happens at the end of the second trilogy (Episode IV to Episode VI), we're potentially looking for a character who's been around since the very beginning. If you accept the TV shows as canon and believe Darth Maul survived, he certainly fits in here. As for the second trilogy, just because we didn't see him doesn't mean he wasn't around. He could have been in hiding.

3. His Powerful Origins

Darth Maul was an apprentice of the evil Darth Sidious, one of the most terrifying and powerful Sith Lords on the dark side. It's also clear that he possessed great agility and combat skills. Perhaps his hatred for Obi Wan fueled him and made him hungry for more power and even revenge. With such powerful desires lighting his way, it would make sense that he would strive to rise in the ranks of the dark side. This might explain how he eventually came to be the leader of the sinister First Order.

4. They Sound the Same

If you go back and listen to the handful of lines uttered by Darth Maul and compare them to Snoke's voice in The Force Awakens, it's pretty clear that they sound quite similar. It's not just the gravelly quality of their respective voices, either. They share the same accent, tone, and basic inflection. That's pretty hard to write off.

5. But What About the Horns and the Face Tattoos?

Obviously, the biggest hole in this theory is Darth Maul's unmistakable face tattoos and skull horns. But, I mean, come on! Look at Snoke. It's clear he's been pretty badly deformed by some kind of accident. It stands to reason that Darth Maul could have endured some extensive, brutal body trauma that left his face and head permanently changed. It's also worth noting that Darth Maul's mother, Talzin, is a powerful Force witch. It's possible she found a way to transfer her son's consciousness into a vessel that could better handle him. With Darth Maul inhabiting a different body, his tattoos and horns would obviously be gone.

We're not going to take credit for this pretty out-there theory, though. If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty, it's all outlined in the video below.

Maybe it's time to put those tinfoil hats back in the closet for now.

22 Photos That Prove Moonlight's Andre Holland Deserves Your Gaze

While Moonlight is inspiring many newly discovered crushes on actor Trevante Rhodes, I was delighted to discover that The Knick's Andre Holland also stars in the Oscar-nominated movie.

Holland plays surgeon Algernon Edwards in the Cinemax series The Knick, set at a 1900 New York hospital, and he pretty much steals the show. In Moonlight, we're treated to several scenes of Rhodes and Holland together. Though Holland tends toward period pieces, he looks great in any historical era. Here are 22 photos that prove it.

50+ Famous, Sexy Silver Foxes

Yes, yes, we're all familiar with Christian Grey, but now it's time to talk about some other hot gray guys who have major sex appeal. Whether they have just a smattering of silver in their facial hair, like Brad Pitt, Idris Elba, and Javier Bardem, or have let their whole heads go gray (we're looking at you, John Slattery), these men prove that you don't have to live by the dye to be seriously sexy.

I Tried 13 Mascaras to See Which One Works Best on Asian Lashes

When a quick Google search informed me that CoverGirl's Lashblast Length mascara had been discontinued (#RIP), I was devastated. Like most Asian women, I have naturally thin and short lashes, and that particular CoverGirl formula was the most effective at making them seem longer and fuller. An eyelash-extension expert once told me my lashes were about 8mm long (less than an inch!), and since then I have vowed to have lashes 10mm or longer. But getting lash extensions every two weeks for the rest of my life wasn't really practical.

The next best solution: finding a new mascara I can be 100 percent committed to. I sourced friends, co-workers, and the internet to research which mascaras work best, specifically for Asian lashes. I was on the hunt for a mascara that would deliver both volume and length in one easy-to-use tube, and I realized: isn't that what most people want? Just more so if you have fine eyelashes. After trying 13 different mascaras, I can safely say I found some formulas that make saying goodbye to my old CoverGirl standby a lot easier.

15 Photos of Mahershala Ali That Will Make You Question Everything You've Ever Known

When it comes to celebrity crushes, there are the Hemsworth-lovers, the royal worshippers, and the Pratt fanatics. You know who there should be? Mahershala Ali mavens. Mahershala Ali maniacs? Whatever. The bottom line is that the supremely talented actor, who you probably know for his memorable role as Remy Danton in House of Cards, is not only one of Hollywood's biggest up-and-coming stars, but also a total smokeshow. We're going to be seeing a lot of his gorgeous face come award season thanks to his work in Moonlight, so there's no better time to reacquaint yourself (or get acquainted, period). The 42-year-old is happily married to artist and composer Amatus Sami-Karim, but there's no harm in drooling just a little bit over a few photos of him, right? Right.

How to Hack the Caffeinated Coffee Butter That's Launching in Japan

Coffee butter has arrived to help you become a morning person, and no, we're not talking about bulletproof coffee, which is coffee made with butter. We're talking about butter made with coffee grounds, otherwise known as spreadable caffeine made for putting on your morning toast. The internet is buzzing about the coffee butter launching in Japan, and people are lucky enough to be able to buy it in stores there starting in March.

The spread, pictured above, is called Snow Brand Coffee Soft and is made by the Japanese company Megmilk Snow Brand Company. The company is known for its popular coffee, and to celebrate the milestone of selling the coffee for 55 years now, it's debuting this unusual butter. "The milky coffee will now be making its debut as a spread, designed to be used on bread and toast just like butter or margarine," according to Japan's Rocket News.

While we're sure this particular brand tastes uniquely awesome, there's a way to make coffee butter for yourself at home if you're hoping to re-create it. According to this recipe for homemade coffee butter from Get in My Mouf, all you need is heavy cream, ground coffee, powdered sugar, salt, and a cheese cloth. We have a feeling this buttery spread would be perfect with Japanese chocolate slices on toast. Here's to having a new coffee-related reason to hop out of bed!

Your Eczema-Prone Skin Will Thank You After Trying These Soothing Makeup Products

If you suffer from eczema, you know how frustrating one of the itch fests it causes can be. Combine that with redness, dry patches, and flaky skin, and you'll probably wish you had a dermatologist on-call 24/7. While treating the issue can be tricky, there are a few makeup tips that can help ease your frustration.

Before we jump in, New York-based dermatologist Dr. Amy Wechsler, who is also a consultant for Chanel's skin care range, suggests being smart when shopping for new items. "Use makeup from a reputable company, where you can go to a counter, sample things, and ask questions," Wechsler says. "And always do a test spot when trying new products."

With that said, ahead are several makeup goodies - from a color-corrector infused with superfruits to a hydrating foundation - to consider adding to your arsenal if you battle eczema.

Just Admit it, First Birthday Parties Aren't For Babies

You've planned the perfect first birthday party with that adorable theme that you found on Pinterest and the personalized banner with the matching napkins you ordered. You spent all night baking the smash cake and then trying to get the frosting just right because it has to look exactly like the picture you pinned before your baby was even conceived.

The food is set on a multi-level buffet of trays, platters, and cake stands with the giant metallic "1" balloon tied to the back of the high chair. Your baby is dressed in the outfit you ordered five months ago and even though you keep saying you have no idea how this happened so fast, you are ready to celebrate.

You're so excited to see your baby's baby "friends," your new mom friends, your family, and your other friends who you were close with long before you became a mom. But really you can't wait to catch up with your other friends because it's been 100 years (aka 12 months) since you've even seen them. You start chatting with your girlfriend who drove all the way out from the city to come, but your baby starts crying and you bend down to pick them up and get so distracted that you never return to the conversation. You never even say goodbye because you were too busy trying to capture the frosting mess on your baby's face during the cake smash.

And while you're trying to get the perfect picture for Instagram, your phone runs out of storage and you think maybe the baby has had too much sugar anyway. So, you go to take them out of the high chair but they loved that first taste of sugar so much that they start screaming hysterically when you rip them away from the remnants. And everyone that was gathered around commenting about how cute your baby was with all that frosting all over their face has now walked away to refill their drinks.

Now your baby is wiping colored frosting all over the shirt that finally fits you again and you glance at the clock and notice that they should have gone down for a nap an hour ago but you were trying to be the fun, carefree mom and not worry about it because it's their first birthday after all. But they clearly need a nap to the point that you can't deny them that 45 minute slumber any longer. So you put the Sleep Sheep on the loudest possible setting to drown out the noise and finally get the baby down.

You return to the fizzling party to say goodbye to the people you never even had a chance to say hi to and then start cleaning up the mess that was made by that one older sibling that wasn't really invited. You start sponging food particles from the crevices of the high chair for the 13,872,481 time in your life. You wipe up cake and crushed Goldfish from the floor and realize that there's a giant stack of gift bags and brightly wrapped boxes by the front door even though you specifically said no gifts on the invitation.

As you're going through toys that you know you'll lose the parts to, books you already have, and cards that your baby can't even read, you realize that first birthdays are not actually for the baby who was either asleep or crying during the entire event. Instead, they are for the parents to bask in their success at keeping said baby, and themselves, alive for 12 whole months. To parade their cute offspring in front of family and friends who you haven't seen since the baby was born and declare that you have succeeded in the most difficult year of your life thus far and - look! - you even managed to pull off a party.

Which makes you think that if you really wanted to celebrate you should have gone somewhere far, far away from your baby with your partner who you're pretty sure you still love - but could really use some time alone with just to make sure!

15 Reasons Moonlight Star Trevante Rhodes Should Be Your New Celebrity Crush

I'm Puerto Rican and I Don't Speak Spanish

If you're like most people, I know exactly the look on your face right now. It's one filled with confusion and a little judgment - what kind of Latina doesn't speak Spanish? Are you even really Latina if you don't?

You might have noticed that I said I don't speak Spanish, instead of I can't speak Spanish. I can speak the language, although it's a bit broken. A little backstory: I'm biracial. My mother is Puerto Rican, and my father is black. Growing up in white suburban Maryland, my mother didn't have much of a need to speak Spanish around my siblings and me. But over time, I picked it up from her and my Nuyorican family when we visited. (Plus, eavesdropping on my mom's phone conversations with my grandmother and aunt ensured that I understood it better than any of them thought.) I eventually minored in Spanish in college; now, it slips out fluently from time to time - while ordering at the bodega, while visiting Mexico, while having a few cocktails and feeling my reservations melt away.

The real reason I don't speak Spanish? I'm nervous. Any time I tried to speak Spanish to my family when I was younger, I got teased about my accent. When I opened my mouth to Latino friends, they'd giggle or call me names they thought I didn't understand. So after awhile, I stopped trying. The sad truth is that I'd rather speak Spanish around perfect strangers who don't know my backstory than the people I actually know, all because I'm afraid of "that look."

Coming from two cultures, one of my biggest anxieties has always been being seen as "not enough." I was teased by the black kids in high school for being so light-skinned and talking like a white girl and teased by my Latino friends in college for not speaking Spanish and talking like a white girl. For a long time, my "otherness" left me in a permanent middle ground of uncertainty - of feeling like I didn't belong because my hair, my looks, and my language skills weren't "enough" for either of my backgrounds.

But then, I grew up. And now I've realized that speaking Spanish does not have to define my Latino heritage and pride. Maybe I fumble over my r's and mix up tenses, but I can still fly my Puerto Rican flag high. I eat my Spanish-speaking grandmother's pasteles on Sundays, sing "Vivir Mi Vida" in the shower with all my might, and support Latinos every chance I get, whether it's at work or in my personal life. (I own every Jennifer Lopez album, for goodness sake - even Como Ama Una Mujer!)

But because I do feel like speaking better Spanish is a missing puzzle piece of my identity, I'm working on it. When I find the time, I take Skype classes through Let's Go Spanish (practicing conjugations in your pj's can be awkward but very convenient), and listening to Spanish podcasts helps keep me sharp. The cleaning woman at my day job is from Puerto Rico, the same town as my grandmother; late at night, when the overhead lights have dimmed and everyone else is gone but the two of us, she helps me practice by chatting about our days in Spanish. And as I speak, she smiles encouragingly; there's no giggling at my accent or judgment that I'm not Latino enough. We're just two women, generations apart, with a shared heritage and respect.

The 1 Reason Android Users Might Not Want to Date Someone With an iPhone

If you're wondering when your days of #foreveralone are going to go away, you might want to get rid of your Android phone or at least fix the cracked screen. These two reasons might be why you're single, at least according to a new study from Match.com and Research Now.

The study, called Singles in America, was conducted in 2016 and surveyed more than 5,000 single people. It also revealed that your single status might be because of your choices with tech.

Get Rid of Your Android Phone

Among iPhone users, it's pretty common to see a romance quickly die if someone in the relationship is using an Android phone. No iMessage? Please, some people would rather prioritize the blue message bubbles than ever see a green one. It's a fact that showed up in the study; iPhone owners are 21 times more likely to "negatively judge" someone with an Android. That doesn't mean Android owners are flexible angels either; they are 15 times more likely to also "negatively judge" a romantic interest who owns an iPhone.

Stop Complaining on Facebook

There are plenty more tech reasons as to why you're eating a jar of Nutella every night. Fifty-eight percent of people find it a turn-off if you're always complaining about your life on Facebook. That's right - it's time to take your whining off your status updates.

Don't Check Your Phone on a First Date

Oh and if you're on a first date, please don't answer your phone! Seventy-five of single people think it's a turn-off, which makes sense because if you really need to escape a date, just go to the bathroom and have your friend call you.

Fix Your Cracked Phone

Dudes, this last piece of advice is for you: fix your cracked screen. It's unprofessional, could cut your finger, and could be another reason you're still single. Eighty-six percent of women "negatively judge" a man for a cracked screen, because if you can put yourself together for a date, you can fix your phone.

We can't guarantee you'll find the love of your life as soon as these "problems" are fixed, but everyone's gotta start somewhere, right?

5 Theories That Could Explain Who Rey's Parents Are in Star Wars

We came away from watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens with more questions than we can count, but the one that hasn't ceased to stop itching our brains since we left the movie theater is the matter of Rey's parents. While the character, played by Daisy Ridley, is unquestionably the hero of Episode VII, much of her past and familial lineage is shrouded in mystery. J.J. Abrams shed some light on the topic during an appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2016 that seems to have ruled out the biggest theories about Rey's parents, saying, "Rey's parents are not in Episode VII, so I can't possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too." Is Abrams just trying to throw fans off the scent of Rey's real parents? Now that the title of Episode VIII has been revealed, we're revisiting our major theories. major spoilers below!

Adrienne's Dramatic Before and After Is a Total "Eff You" to the Scale

We've said it before: a number on a scale doesn't mean anything. More proof of this? Adrienne Osuna's two-pound weight loss, and her total body transformation.

Adrienne: Before (182 Pounds)

As a mom of four boys, Adrienne had struggled with yo-yo dieting and weight gain after her pregnancies. "After I had my babies I had lost and gained again about 80 pounds," Adrienne told POPSUGAR via email. "I was tired of dieting and always only caring what the scale said. I was tired, often sick, and very unhappy with how I looked and felt."

"I finally decided I was going to focus on what my body could do and what it's capable of instead of what it weighed - and I started heavy lifting."

Not only was she feeling terrible, but her relationship with the scale was also extremely unhealthy. "After baby number four I lost 62 of the pounds and reached 182, at which point my body was done. I was not eating enough. My metabolism was shot. I was training for my third half-marathon, breastfeeding, and barely eating 1200 to 1400 calories a day. If I messed up one day on my diet or the scale wouldn't move, I'd binge."

Six months post-pregnancy, Adrienne made a decision to change her focus, and it changed her life. Her lightbulb idea? Weightlifting. "I had wanted to start powerlifting but was scared I would gain a bunch of muscle and look bulky and manly, but I finally decided I was going to focus on what my body could do and what it's capable of instead of what it weighed - and I started heavy lifting."

Adrienne: After (180 Pounds)

Weightlifting is what transformed Adrienne's body. Her fears of looking "manly" proved to be unfounded, but she was still put off by the number on the scale. "After a few months friends and family kept telling me I was shrinking and losing weight, but I kept saying 'I wish! The scale hasn't moved!'" Then it dawned on her - her body was changing, regardless of her weight.

"Finally I realized all my clothes were too big! I compared pictures and couldn't believe my eyes." (Another reason to take those before and progress pictures!) Adrienne realized that she was "almost the same weight but dramatically different" in shape and appearance. "Then I realized what was happening, and it fueled me. It also made me want to share with other ladies the scale is not the ultimate factor in your success."

Adrienne: Before and After

Adrienne had mentioned on Instagram that she didn't diet to get her transformation (she attributes it all to weight lifting) but told POPSUGAR that she does "generally eat pretty healthy." She doesn't follow a strict diet, but has been dabbling in intermittent fasting.

"I eat a lot protein and veggies, but I also enjoy treats and don't restrict myself," she said. "A key part of me is I do intermittent fasting. It helps me to not have late night snacks, and to keep the amount of food I consume in check without having to meticulously track every item I eat." She told us she started this plan six months into her weight lifting journey, and credits intermittent fasting and her lifting regimen as "an amazing combination to burn fat."

"The scale is not the ultimate factor in your success."

"I currently fast overnight 15 hours," she said. "Usually from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m., six nights a week - I do have coffee with a little heavy cream in the morning during my fasted state." She also told POPSUGAR that her exercise routine consists of lifting four days a week, and doing cardio exercises two days a week, with one rest day. "I currently do a combination of powerlifting training and bodybuilding," she said.

And the best part of this whole thing? She says "I feel so amazing. I am happy, healthy, and comfortable in my own skin. I love seeing how much more I can lift, it's so empowering to me." That's a much better mark of success than a smaller number on the scale, in our book. And she agrees - "I really want women to know that the scale should not be the only factor they go off of," she said. "They should take measurements and pictures and go based on how they feel and look! Freedom from the scale is so liberating!"
