Ways to Find Out How Your Kids' School Day Really Was
Every day after school, it's the same thing. I meet my 5-year-old daughter at the bus, give her a big hug, and ask her how school was. I get the same answer, every single day: "Good." And that's it. No matter how many follow-up questions I ask, I always get stonewalled, and it sucks.
This is the first year I've ever had a child in full-day school, and I'm desperate for information about what she does in the seven hours she's away from me every day. Are her classmates all nice to her? Is she developing any special friendships? Did she eat her lunch or just toss it? Does she feel excited about all she's learning? Overwhelmed? For the much of first half of her kindergarten year, I had no idea. It was time for a plan.
Through personal trial and error, getting advice from friends with older kids, and some good old-fashioned perseverance, I've learned that there are ways to find out how your kid's school day actually was. Although "how was your day?" probably won't get you the intel you want, these strategies just might.
- Instead of asking the generic "How was school today," get specific. Every parent has gotten the dreaded "fine," as a reply to questioning how their child's school day was. It just doesn't inspire an interesting conversation. Instead, check out this list of 30 better questions, like "What was the nicest thing you did for someone today?" and "If aliens came to school and beamed up three kids, who do you wish they would take and why?" and find some that you think will resonate with your child.
- Get familiar with their school-day schedule. If your child's teacher hasn't given you a general schedule, ask for one. That way, you'll know to ask what your child created in art class or what games she played during P.E. that day. Having basic information about what your kid actually did at school is a great tool for starting a conversation.
- Be ready to listen when your child is ready to talk. When my daughter walks in from school, she usually wants two things: a snack and some downtime. I've learned that trying to talk to her about her day then is a lost cause. But before bed, she's always eager to tell me stories about school, so I make sure we have extra time to chat then.
- Read the signs they're giving you. If your child comes home from school sad, grumpy, or angry, it could very well mean that something happened at school to make them that way. Don't push, but when the time is right, ask about what caused the bad mood.
- Put down your phone. Our kids know when we're only half listening to them, so be sure you're focusing when they're ready to talk. Put down the phone, let the laundry wait until later, and give them your complete attention.
- Don't be a stranger to the teacher. Don't wait for your parent-teacher conference to get on a first-name basis with your child's teacher. (Though that conference is important, too.) Developing a good relationship means you'll feel comfortable reaching out to ask how your child is interacting with peers, progressing academically, and behaving. Great teachers want their students to excel in all areas of school life and will be happy to enlist you as a partner in ensuring that success.
- Make friends with parents of classmates. If you have a child who is notoriously tight-lipped, befriending their classmates' parents can help you learn more about school life, assuming their children are chattier. Ask a couple of moms out for coffee after drop-off, and you might be surprised at what you can learn from them.

The 1 Ingredient That Will Instantly Uplift Any Salad, Sandwich, or Pasta
Roasted red bell peppers are a great addition to salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and antipasto platters. I love to make my own at home, jar them and have them on hand for whenever one strikes my fancy. Large red bell peppers are sweet, not spicy and can be found in grocery stores year-round - although their peak season (when they are the cheapest) is from May until August. Here how to roast them:
- Start by washing the peppers and removing the stickers. Next you can either char them on high heat on a gas range stove by placing them directly onto the grates, or roast them in the oven (which is what I like to do). Use tongs to turn the pepper to blacken on all sides. Cook on the grill the same way.
- If roasting in the oven, preheat to 450°F. Arrange the peppers on a cookie sheet and roast in the oven, turning every 15 minutes until done (about 30 minutes).
- Whatever technique you use to blacken the peppers, once they are done, place in a covered bowl or brown paper bag. As the steam from the peppers condenses, the skin becomes easier to peel off.
- Once the peppers have cooled, carefully peel off the blackened skin and discard. You can do this with your fingers or a sharp paring knife. Pull or cut off the top of the pepper and squeeze gently to remove the seeds.
Never rinse or wash the peppers, as the water will diminish the smoky flavor. When the skins and seeds have been removed, cover the peppers in oil, adding garlic slices or herbs if desired, and refrigerate for up to two weeks.
3 Things That Help Reduce Belly Fat
If you're constantly doing crunches to get a six-pack, you may be going about things the wrong way. Along with fat-burning cardio, the best way to lose belly fat is through these three diet changes.
Eat These
Proven to reduce abdominal fat, MUFAs (monounsaturated fatty acids) should be a part of your daily diet, and you can find them in avocado, nuts and nut butters, seeds, and olive oil. Just be mindful of how much you eat since these are also high in calories. Blueberries are also proven to diminish belly fat, so make a point to throw them in your salads and smoothies. Some foods like pineapple contain an enzyme that helps ease digestion and banish bloat, making your belly look and feel flatter. High-fiber foods like pears, berries, veggies, beans, and whole grains have the same effect - plus they keep you feeling full longer, just like healthy fats. Feeling full keeps hunger at bay, so you crave less and eat less, reducing your total daily calorie intake which will reduce your overall body fat, including that extra bit around your middle.
Ditch These
Trans fat is a big no-no for your health in general, but also for your belly. It's found in many processed foods like granola bars, crackers, cookies, some peanut butter, and breads. If the list of ingredients includes partially hydrogenated oil, put it back on the shelf. Avoid processed foods, soda, and meats that are high in saturated fat. Try to limit sugar, simple carbs like bagels, and alcohol since these won't fill you up, so you'll end up eating extra calories you don't need. Also, steer clear of foods that personally cause you bloating like dairy products, sweeteners, or bread.
The Trifecta
You don't need to give up carbs and go all crazy with a protein-only diet. Instead, CrossFit competitor Christmas Abbott told us to embrace the macronutrient trifecta of proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats to help reduce overall body fat, which will aid in reducing stubborn belly fat. Including all three in your meals will make you feel more satisfied so you end up consuming smaller portions. Plus, you'll feel fuller longer which helps you consume fewer total calories.

12 Things That Organized Moms Make a Habit Of
We all have a mom in our lives whose level of "togetherness" we secretly (or not so secretly) envy. She shows up at school drop-off looking like she was dressed by a stylist and had time for a blowout, has no problem chairing a fundraiser on a whim, and has a successful day job, too.
There are two truths that this mom would love for you to know: That A) no one has it all together, even her, and B) she's got a few tricks up her sleeve. While we can't tell you the last thing that caused her to melt down or lose her cool, we do know a few reasons that there seem to be more hours in her day than everyone else's.
Here's the scoop on how to channel your most organized self.
1 Plastic Surgeon Admitted: "If a Person Is Unhappy or Negative, Surgery Won't Fix That"
In a world where we're surrounded by face-smoothing photo-editing apps and flawless celebrity photos, it's almost impossible not to wonder if you should take the plunge and go under the knife as well. Dr. Benjamin Stong, a double board-certified plastic surgeon in Atlanta, just spilled all the information you've secretly been googling about cosmetic procedures in a Reddit AMA.
Dr. Stong said he has "performed thousands of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries and procedures on the face, head, and neck." During the AMA, he touched on skin-tightening procedures, the future of surgery, and, of course, Botox. Keep reading to learn more about the world of cosmetic surgery.
What's the Secret to Looking Young?
One woman - who can afford relatively pricey treatments - asked him the secret to keeping her youthful glow. "Well, Botox, no downtime lasers, microneedling, and skin care are the best starting points because they effect permanent changes over time to the skin and can delay the need for more aggressive procedures later in life," Dr. Stong said. "Fillers can be added to change the shape of features such as the lips and cheeks, although they do not provide protective long term benefits to the skins. Over the counter products from department stores are largely useless and a waste of your money."
This has been a topic of conversation for a while, but what age does he suggest starting Botox? "I don't judge whatsoever, but I do also tell patients that one can legally sign consent for Botox at 18 years old," he noted. "If we were able to perform a split study on the face, with one half getting Botox and the other not, we would see significant differences over decades. So, in short, the earlier the better."
Do Skin-Tightening Procedures Really Work?
When one user asked Dr. Stong which procedure he does that "isn't really worth doing," he had one answer: skin tightening. "Most skin tightening devices don't work well," he said. "A few out there are worth while. I'm looking at adding a fat reduction device and skin tightening. . . it's just such an evolving field. There are basically two types [of skin-tightening procedures]: Radio frequency (RF) and Ultrasound (Ulthera). I am looking at microneedling RF devices to do no downtime face and neck lifts."
What Happens When It's an Issue of Self-Esteem?
Maybe it's the pressure from social media to look a certain way, or maybe it's that celebrities have access to treatments that us regular folk don't, but how does Dr. Stong know when a patient actually needs surgery or it is an issue of self-esteem? "Well, I tell patients all the time that they should only choose cosmetic procedures for themselves and absolutely no one else," he explained. "I also have come to believe that the patients frame of mind prior to surgery correlates to recovery. My patients that have sailed through recovery were generally very positive, well adjusted people. If a person is unhappy or negative, surgery won't fix that and it certainly seems to make for a harder recovery for the individual."
Dr. Stong added: "In general, I am a technician. If I believe the issue can be fixed, I will offer the procedure. I certainly have no interest in being a psychiatrist with a knife."
What Will the Future Bring?
With all the mind-blowing advancements going on in technology and more specifically in the medical world, one user wanted to know which treatment Dr. Stong was most excited about, and as a facial plastic surgeon, it makes perfect sense. "Stem Cells to regrow hair," he said. "I generally think stem cells would be very beneficial to many disciplines in medicine if we had better access to high quality stem cells."

Why Prabal Gurung's Inclusive Sizing Is a First Step to Fixing Fashion
My Prabal crush started two weeks ago when his NYFW show had me shedding tears from the front row, and it only grew stronger Monday night when I was lucky enough to meet him at the launch dinner for his Prabal Gurung x Lane Bryant collaboration.
Ashley Graham, the face of the campaign, was also in attendance looking flawless in this body-con lace-up skirt, definitely my favorite piece from the collection. SWOON.
When I met Prabal (who is truly the nicest man, by the way) I was starstruck in that kind of way where you leave your body for a minute and black out but have to pretend you're relaxed and fully present. You know what I mean! During that moment, I first went full fangirl on him, gushing about how much his show meant to me, and then went full dog mom on him, thrusting a photo of my dog Toast wearing one of his sweaters in his face . . . Very cool and profesh, I know!
But don't worry, we brought it back to fashion and in chatting, two things really struck me: one about Prabal's namesake line and one about the collaboration.
On the former, I learned that every season he produces his line up to a size 22. Department stores and retailers aren't buying it up to a size 22 (hmmmm), but here I am thinking this collaboration with Lane Bryant is him jumping on the plus-size bandwagon. But nope. Here's a designer who's been thinking about the full range of women from the get-go, which is pretty cool.
As for his for his limited-edition collaboration, it's not hard to see it's full of elements that plus-size women have traditionally been told to avoid: horizontal stripes, large-scale prints, voluminous skirts, and the list goes on. Was it intentional? You bet it was, according to him. I am the first to throw a fashion rule out the window, so I loved that Prabal is out there telling women it's OK to dress however you want. No rules is the new rule!
For me, the most inspiring part of the night was when Ashley (who, by the way, has been modeling for Lane Bryant since she was 13!) got up to talk. She spoke about the body-positivity movement as a team effort and touched on how important it is for designers, models, influencers, bloggers, and the rest of the community to continue to come together and make noise because, as she said, it's working.
So here I am, making a little noise of my own to say thanks to Prabal, Ashley, Lane Bryant, and everyone involved for such an inspiring night. Now I just need to get my hands on that skirt before it completely sells out!

The Powerful Reason 6 Pregnant Moms Teamed Up For a Pro-Choice Maternity Shoot
Six pregnant women are using their bumps to send a powerful message: they made the decision to carry their babies to term and every other woman should have the right to do so, too.
Although many can't understand why a pregnant woman would be pro-choice, for these moms-to-be, their current pregnancy has only strengthened their pro-choice stance because they have firsthand experiences of the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy that many male legislators can't even begin to understand.
For this nontraditional maternity shoot, the fierce mamas worked with the Huffington Post to wear their politics on their bumps and support women's rights. Here's what each mom thinks about pregnancy, her body, and having the right to decide to become a mother:
"When I was growing up, I was a dancer, and was taught at a very young age that my body is my temple and that I own it and it's mine to do with what I want . . . I hope to instill the same thing in my daughter ― that her body is her own and no one can tell her what to do with it." - Emelyn Ocampo
"Everybody should have control over their own body. It's very simple . . . People aren't jumping in lines to get abortions. Nobody wants one. People aren't getting pregnant to get abortions. That doesn't happen . . . Going through [pregnancy], especially for the first time makes me realize how absurd it is not to have a choice. If men could get pregnant, this wouldn't be a conversation. There would be abortion clinics like there are Starbucks." - Amanda Stephen
"I think having had a baby made me even more pro-choice than I ever was before, because pregnancy is violent. Your whole body changes in such fundamental ways. Your pelvis pulls apart, your rib cage pulls apart, your breasts swell and ache, every part of you hurts. Your joints loosen, your hair changes, your feet change, your organs go crazy. It's such a violent process ― even a good, healthy, normal pregnancy that carries to term a healthy baby is a very violent process. So to be forced to do that against your will? I kind of think it would be like being raped for nine months. It's horrifying to think about." - Priya
"A woman has a right to choose whatever they want to do with their body, whenever they want to do it. . . . Until you're in it, you don't know the power of creating a human being in your body. And then the honor of raising that child in the world! It's only underscored my belief that it's your choice, and why would anyone in the world be able to tell you what you should do with your body?" - Karmela Herrera Billones
". . . After getting married, I heard about all the things that [my husband's] mom did to support a woman's right to choose. She got arrested [for performing illegal abortions] right around the same time as Roe vs. Wade. She really went out there and did what she needed to do to fight for those beliefs which I find really inspiring." - Mallory
Hmm, Diego Luna's First Sex Scene Was Awkward AF
Mexican treasure Diego Luna was obviously a guest on Conan O'Brien's show from Mexico City, and the Rogue One actor hit all the right spots during his interview. He talked about Latino representation in film and his accent in the Star Wars movie, took a shot of mezcal with Conan, and discussed the need for open communication between the US and Mexico - in a more toned-down way than the other guest, former President Vicente Fox. But the standout part of the interview was right at the beginning, when Conan asked Diego about the first time he had sex on screen.
Diego revealed he was only 12 years old when he acted out a sex scene for a movie! As expected, it was awkward, but maybe not as awkward as Diego recounting the whole experience in the clip above. Press play above and be ready to cringe.
The Major Way Gigi Hadid Is Helping Zayn Malik With His Versus Versace Campaign

In the behind-the-scenes video, Gigi is shown being the ultimate Instagram girlfriend - to borrow the term that originated with a viral video that depicted doting partners who photograph their significant others for Instagram. In his caption, Zayn simply wrote, "Stay tuned."
Zayn Matched Gigi in His Tommy Hilfiger Gear, Proves He's the Most Supportive Boyfriend Ever
The partnership is set to culminate in his debut capsule collection, which will be released sometime in May. According to Donatella Versace, Zayn was tapped for this opportunity partly due to his relationship with Gigi. Describing the moment she knew it would be a great fit, Donatella said, "When I saw him with Gigi. The way he treats Gigi, like a gentleman: You don't see this anymore."
Ahead, get a first look at the highly anticipated campaign.
Kendall Jenner Wore Her Family's Favorite Waist-Defining Accessory Her Own Way
There's one item almost all the Kardashians have worn: the corset. Kim was the first to rock this waist-defining trend - she thanks Kanye for the idea - and now, finally, Kendall's joined the party. The model, who is in Paris for Fashion Week, was spotted in a red corset belt at the LVMH Prize 2017 event. Unlike her sisters Kylie and Kim, who prefer to wear the accessory with an oversize tee, Kendall gave it her own stylish spin.
She paired the corset over her black-and-white skirt suit, finishing off with leather boots. The extra piece not only gave her outfit a splash of color, but also highlighted her slim waist. A trick she probably learned from her sisters. It was sophisticated and trendy, qualities Kendall always masters with her outfits. Scroll on to see how the family styles the corset, then shop for one of your own.

1 Teen's Comment to His Mom About Her Always Making Dinner Stunned Her
Like many moms, Holly Nowak makes a meal for her family nearly every single night even though it can be such an exhausting and monotonous routine. It's just one of those things that has to get done, so she does it. However, thanks to a comment her 16-year-old son made about her dinners, Holly has found a new reason to feel good about the time she spends cooking for her family every night.
"Just about every night I make dinner for myself, Chris, and the kids," Holly wrote in a post shared to the Love What Matters Facebook page. "I've always made a great effort to make sure those meals are good and balanced. They are made with love even on my most tired days. As a mom you feel perhaps they don't mean much or are taken for granted."
Despite her feelings, Holly realized that her making meals isn't taken for granted at all, thanks to her teenage son, Zane. "Zane finished dinner and before he went upstairs he said, 'Mom, when I have kids I'm going to make sure we always have dinners like we do!'" Holly wrote. "That statement in itself was enough. My heart swelled."
Zane loves to write, and shared with his mom that he actually wrote a piece about his family's dinners and how the meals Holly cooks every night represent stability in his life.
"I can't tell you how it feels to have my 16-year-old son tell me that this repetitive, often tiring, monotonous thing I do every night signifies stability in his life," Holly said. "So when you're cooking dinner and eating with your kids for the 5,000th time and you think no one cares . . . think again. I believe it means more to them than we know or even more than they say."
When It Comes to Fashion Month, Joan Smalls Is the Ruler of the Runway
Every Fashion Week season, you can count on three things: there will be looks you want to rip off the model and wear immediately, but also some that'll make you go "WTF?!," and through it all Joan Smalls will be on the runway.
The gorgeous Puerto Rican model is a staple at New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Week (sometimes even appearing in menswear shows), but this time she kicked off her busy schedule of runway after runway somewhere else. She walked the highly anticipated Tommy Hilfiger show in Los Angeles, featuring designs by Gigi Hadid and models like Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin. In two stunning looks (a '90s-inspired oversize pullover dress and a patchwork swimsuit), Joan caught our attention, and then she kept it during New York, Milan and Paris fashion weeks. Scroll ahead to check out more photos of her time on the runway.
Mexico's Former President Has a Message For Trump: "Don't Mess Around With Us, Señor"
Vicente Fox started off his appearance on Conan O'Brien's Mexico City talk show strong by gifting the host customized cowboy boots that read, "No f*cking wall." Following the bold gesture, the former president of Mexico spoke about Donald Trump, his respective immigration plans, and why the border wall just won't work.
Fox cited the famous Berlin Wall as an example that border walls are more divisive than they are anything else. He said, "Walls don't work. Especially when the people of the United States and Mexico, we are neighbors. We are friends. We are partners. More so, we are roommates."
Fox, who has been vocal about his opinions on Trump on Twitter, also noted how vital immigrants are to our nation. "There are so many Mexicans doing good work, that are loyal to the United States, making that economy competitive. Now they want to kick them in the ass and throw them out." Adding, "That is going to be a big, big loss for the United States."
In an incredible jab at Trump's campaign slogan, Fox said, "America is great and it will be greater because of our people." He then likened the Mexican people to the jalapeño when he said, "We might be short but we are hot, like a jalapeño. So, don't mess around with us, Señor Trump." Watch the incredible interview in its entirety, above.

10-Year-Old Transgender Girl's Speech About Protecting Trans Rights Is a Tearjerker
Jamie Bruesehoff wants your forgiveness; she needs to be that gushing mom for a minute. In a post to her Facebook page, the proud mom talks about her 10-year-old daughter, Rebecca, who spoke to a crowd of over 200 people about why everyone needs to stand up for transgender rights, and all human rights. The post accompanies a photo of Rebecca holding a sign that reads, "I'm the scary transgender person the media warned you about."
But Bruesehoff understands that her daughter "has it good" considering the circumstances, which is why she's raising Rebecca to be brave and kind, and to stand up for herself and others.
"We know how good she has it. We know the difference a supportive family and a supportive school make. And we know that rescinding the guidelines on supporting trans students disproportionately affects the most vulnerable. Black trans youth. Latinx trans youth. Immigrant trans youth. Muslim trans youth. Economically disadvantaged trans youth. Youth who live at the intersection of these identities and more, youth who are marginalized two and three times over just because of who they are, where they live, what they believe, or where they come from. This is why we will keep fighting."
Why This Photo of a Young Girl Might Make You Rethink Everything You Know About Public Bathrooms
Bruesehoff also shared a video of the speech Rebecca bravely made in front of those people, which she totally crushed. "Hi, my name is Rebecca. I am a transgender girl," she starts. "I have been living as myself since I was 8 years old, and now I am 10. This is who I am."
The rest of her speech will bring you to tears:
"When I go to school, I don't think about being transgender - I just think about being myself, learning, and having fun. My friends don't even believe me when I tell them that I'm transgender, I'm just a girl. I'm very happy that my school gives me a safe environment to learn and be who I am. Every transgender kid deserves the support I get and that's why I'm here. The president has been mean to all types of people, not only trans kids. We all need to come together and stand up for equal rights. To any transgender kids out there: I hope your school supports you, but if it doesn't, we will fight for you. Keep being yourself, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. There's nothing wrong with being transgender, it's just who you are."

Jennifer Lopez has kissed so many hunkie actors: Matthew McConaughey in The Wedding Planner, Ryan Guzman in The Boy Next Door, and even her ex-fiancé Ben Affleck in Gigi and ex-husband Marc Anthony in El Cantante. But she didn't name any of them - not even her ex-partners! - when asked who gave her the most memorable onscreen kiss of her career on the Today show. Instead, J Lo said it was Josh Lucas from An Unfinished Life. Shocking, right? Not so much, when you do a little digging and find out that Josh also named J Lo as his favorite kiss back in 2015, calling their sex scene together "so good." Sadly, it never made it into the movie, so you'll just have to use your imagination.
In the game of spin the bottle, Jennifer also revealed she wishes she sang Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World)," talked about getting starstruck, and named her favorite American Idol judge. See the full clip below, then check out all the amazing outfits J Lo wore on her busy press day.

Emma Watson Had the Support of Her Harry Potter Costars at the Beauty and the Beast Premiere
After all this time, Emma Watson is still close with her Harry Potter costars. The actress, who played Hermione in the franchise, had the support of her former Hogwarts classmates Matthew Lewis (Neville) and Tom Felton (Draco) as she attended the LA premiere of Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast on Thursday. While Matthew walked the red carpet with his fiancée, Angela Jones, Tom opted to keep a low profile by skipping the carpet and sneaking in later. Even though the trio didn't pose for any pictures together, this certainly isn't their first reunion. The young men recently traveled back to the wizarding world with Jason Isaacs and Warwick Davis as they visited the Universal Orlando Resort.
Instagram Is Finally Letting You Share Multiple Photos in One Post
Instagram is finally bringing a long-awaited feature to the app: sharing multiple photos and videos in a single post. The feature begins rolling out today to both Android and iOS users.
Instead of picking the one photo that sums up your vacation, you can now choose up to 10 photos or videos to share in one post. Once you select the photos or videos you want, you can edit them at the same time or do it one by one. To be clear, the group of photos doesn't appear like a collage. It looks more like a gallery that your friends can swipe to see more of.
Ahead, see how to use this feature and what it'll look like in your Instagram feed.
This Old Table Read of Superbad's Sex Scene Is Emma Stone at Her Finest
This year marks a decade since the release of Superbad, which is insane in itself. The movie feels even further away when you watch this unearthed clip of stars Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Emma Stone, and Martha MacIsaac reading their parts from the beyond-awkward party scene. Who knew this girl chugging Diet Coke would one day be an Oscar winner?

This Dad's Dance Moves Will Brighten Your Day
This dad is going viral after someone filmed his hysterical dance moves at his daughter's school's Father Daughter Dance. Ray Mason attended the Caldwood Elementrary School dance with his 12-year-old daughter, Sadie, in Beaumont, Texas. Another parent watching Ray's incredible dance moves filmed the sweet moment and shared it with their local news station, KFDM News. The video has now been watched over two million times, making the duo an internet hit.
According to the Huffington Post, it took Ray a while to realize he had become internet famous. "Everyone kind of knew about it before me . . . I'm just an average Joe. I work for a living, love my kids and try to live the American Dream like anybody" he told the website.
It would appear as though Ray has had some serious break-dance training as he dances with his giggling daughter to "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars. We're huge fans of his robotic dance moves and know he was the coolest dad at the dance. It's an incredibly sweet moment we're sure his daughter won't soon forget and onlookers can't get enough of. Watch the video above for a moment that will make you smile.
Why This Little Boy "Put Money on" His Mom's Starbucks Card Will Melt You
Due to some difficult circumstances, one mom and her husband were having a hard time making ends meet. While they were having a conversation about their finances, their 4-year-old was in the other room and though they didn't know it at the time, he was taking note of what they were saying.
The following week, the mom made a comment in passing to her husband after a particularly stressful day about how she could use a cup of coffee. "He reminded me that coffee just isn't in our budget, we can't put any money on our Starbucks card, and the conversation ended there," she shared on Love What Matters Facebook page. Her child, who likes playing with old gift cards, then asked if he could see her Starbucks card.
About a minute later, this exchange happened . . .
"Here, mommy."
"What is it, honey?"
"This is for you. I put dollars on your coffee card for you."
When the anonymous mom turned around, she saw that her Starbucks card was neatly wrapped inside a $5 bill that he had been saving. "He, being the literal child that he is, put $5 ON my card for me to buy a coffee," she explained. "Take a moment to appreciate how beautifully your children's minds work. When my husband told me, 'We can't put money on the card,' my son took that quite literally . . . so he did it for me," she wrote. "I will never in my life drink a better cup of coffee than I did that afternoon."
Aside from a much-needed caffeine boost, this mom's innocent child gave her something even more important that she wants other parents to also realize. "Take another moment to realize that teaching kindness to children is such a worthwhile feat. When you think they aren't listening, they are. When you think you've said it 1,000 times but it hasn't sunk in . . . it has," she wrote. "Teach your kids kindness and they will pour it into the world. They, and all of the lives your children will change, deserve it."
What Happened After 1 Little Boy Finally Got the Same Haircut as His BFF
Update:
Since Jax and Reddy's story went viral, Jax's mom decided to let her little boy chop off his hair to rock the same look as his best friend. Not only did Jax go to the hair salon with Reddy by his side but the pair immediately began to "switch places" as soon as the haircut was complete.
"Initially I told Jax that he could not cut his hair like Reddy. He has a big head I was afraid he would look weird!" Lydia shared on Frank Somerville's Facebook page.
"I hope the world learns from the innocence of these two boys. Color doesn't matter to them, they're just friends and that's all that matters."
Original story:
When Lydia Stith Rosebush told her little boy that his hair was getting wild and that he needed a haircut over the weekend, Jax made a surprising announcement.
The little boy declared that he wanted his head shaved short so that he could look like his friend Reddy. The adorable little boy was convinced that he and his pal looked similar enough that if they had the same hairstyle, they'd be able to trick everyone. He also thought it would be beyond hilarious to confuse his teacher on Monday.
His mom proudly shared a picture of Jax and Reddy from their school's Christmas event on the Love What Matters Facebook page to make what her son sees perfectly clear. "I'm sure you all see the resemblance," she wrote. "If this isn't proof that hate and prejudice is something that is taught I don't know what is. The only difference Jax sees in the two of them is their hair."

Celine Dion Wore a Modest Dress, but This 1 Detail Took It to the Next Level
Welcome to Celine Dion's style revolution, where the outfits are all sorts of loud. From bold Versace prints to pastel, monochrome looks, Celine is experimenting with every high-fashion designer in the book. Recently, Celine rocked a baby-blue Christian Siriano gown to the premiere of Beauty and the Beast. The modest style featured a strong, structural shoulder piece that elevated the dress. Her new stylist, Law Roach (who also dresses Zendaya), can attest to the star's knowledge about clothes:
"Celine is very into fashion, what's in fashion, what's going on, and who's relevant," Roach explained. "She really knows fashion. She looks at VogueRunway.com and at the magazine, so she knows what's current and she also knows exactly what she likes - and she's fearless," Roach told Vogue.
It made sense then, that Celine will be launching her own accessories line in partnership with Bugatti Group in September. Her bright appearances at Paris Couture Week in 2016 were only the start to a handful of ensembles so vibrant, we just couldn't turn away. Read on to find all the times Celine redefined the meaning of a psychedelic look.
Someone Created a Song Using Music Notes in the Shape of a Unicorn and It's Too Cute
Enjoy a unicorn made out of music notes http://pic.twitter.com/f4oMZDa50b
- Andrew Huang (@andrewismusic) February 21, 2017
What happens when you create a song using music notes in the shape of a unicorn? Magic, of course. Popular YouTube blogger Andrew Huang recently used music software to test out this experiment. The end result pretty much sounds like what you'd expect! It's feminine, sprightly, and sounds like it's straight out of a feudal fairy tale.
In just two days, Andrew's tweet amassed more than 100,000 retweets and 158,000 "likes." Even his followers have since taken to trying the experiment themselves. One Twitter user, for example, did the same project except he changed the instrument to a drum kit and found that it still sounds pretty damn awesome. Listen to the whimsical ditty in its entirety, above.
Heartbreaking Video Showcases What Your Daughter Hears When You Criticize Yourself
What Your Daughter Hears When You Criticize Your BodyWhat your daughter hears when you criticize yourself.
Posted by Real Simple on Thursday, March 2, 2017
From a very young age, your daughter hears you. She hears how much you love her, she hears how much you love the rest of your family, and she hears how much you love yourself. She can also hear when you make negative comments about your body or food or the way you feel as a result of either - and that needs to stop.
In a video by Real Simple captioned, "What your daughter hears when you criticize yourself," young girls are filmed making comments about themselves that many a woman is guilty of making about herself. Things like: "I'm so bad! I ate a cupcake today," and "My diet starts tomorrow."
These seemingly throwaway comments about how we feel about our bodies that fly out of our mouths (often, if you're anything like me) are heard by our daughters, are digested in their little brains, and are becoming a reason for our little girls to question their own bodies. "Research shows that girls who think their moms dislike their own bodies are more likely to e dissatisfied with their own," the video says.
If Mommy doesn't like her body, why should I like mine? Monkey see, monkey do, right?
And this isn't only about the negative comments either - when we see a Hollywood-perfect body on television and say, "Damn, I wish I looked like that," we are still perpetuating this idea of the "perfect, ideal body" and making it known that there is a standard to adhere to and work towards. Therefore, our words about body image, whether positive or negative, have an impact on our daughters (and our sons, for that matter).
Watch the video, which ends with the girls sharing what they wished their moms knew, and consider how your own words about body image may be affecting your little ones - they deserve to be free of body dissatisfaction, don't you think?

Kendall Jenner Channels a '90s Mom in the Trendiest Hoodie at Fashion Week
Vetements x Champion hoodies are all over Fashion Week. From New York to Paris, showgoers and models alike are being snapped in the cozy sweatshirts with exaggerated sleeves, cutouts, and run-off logo straps. But after the Fendi show, Kendall pulled out a tidier piece from the hit collaboration: a baby-pink cropped design. Kendall showed off her signature style in a look that screamed "'90s mom" thanks to high-waisted khaki trousers and a square chainstrap bag.
Spotting Kendall (or any of the Kardashian-Jenners) in Vetements x Champion isn't unusual. Perhaps that's because Kim, Kanye, and the rest of the family are good friends with Vetements designer Demna Gvasalia, and he just might have stocked their wardrobes. Besides, Khloé, Kourtney, Kylie, and Kendall seem to be maintaining a whole closet full of sweats these days, Kourtney keeping her own Champion x Urban Outfitters coordinates in steady rotation. Scroll for a look, then shop a bunch of their separates for yourself.

Emma Watson's Jumpsuit Was Plain Black, Until You Spot the Enchanted Rose
Emma Watson has been traveling around to promote her highly anticipated film Beauty and the Beast and her press tour outfits, which she documents in detail on Instagram, are magical. Her latest look, a black Oscar de la Renta jumpsuit, came straight from the Fall '17 collection and featured a tiny symbolic detail: a rosebud pin.
The star made a tiny tweak, however, to the runway look. She changed the position of the gold adornment from the center to the side of her jumpsuit, which still highlighted its beauty from all angles. Beauty and the Beast fans will instantly recognize this subtle nod to the enchanted rose in the movie. At a previous premiere, Emma even braided her hair to mimic the flower from the film. Scroll on for a closer look at the hidden symbolism in Emma's outfit - it was a genius move.
The 2 Iconic Films That Inspired Jordan Peele's Horror Masterpiece, Get Out
Jordan Peele's new film, Get Out, currently holds a rare 99 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and for good reason. The subversive horror flick uses race as the primary motivator for the brilliant, bloody horror that transpires when a young black man (Daniel Kaluuya) accompanies his white girlfriend (Allison Williams) home for a weekend to meet her "liberal" parents. His descent into a terrifying "are they trying to kill me, or are they just weird?" back and forth results in an unsettling, funny, and overwhelmingly spooky movie. Given our current political climate, which makes Get Out more resonant than ever, it's easy to assume Peele's primary inspiration for the film was pulled from news headlines about black men continuously suffering grave and blatant injustice at the hands of white people.
It turns out a lot of different things influenced the final product, which Peele began working on before former President Barack Obama even took office. In an interview with The Daily Beast, the director revealed that he wanted to capture a "real horror" in the vein of classic horror movies:
"I feel like all classic horror movies have a very true horror behind them, and the thought of doing a racial horror movie came up but I really doubted whether or not it was possible. When Hillary and Obama were competing for the Democratic nomination, there were a lot of questions raised about gender civil rights and racial civil rights, and almost a pitting against one another of the two different causes. I began to look at those two issues as being parallel issues, and two of my favorite movies are Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives. The way that those movies deal with gender and are ultimately about men making decisions for women's bodies - and address justified fears from the women's lib movement - was a signal to me that you can also do a movie about race using the same model."
The Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby might have been used as tonal inspirations, but plenty of people have described Peele's film as a brutal take on Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, the 1967 film about a black man meeting his white fiancée's parents. While discussing Get Out with GQ, the subject of Peele's experience meeting his own white in-laws came up (his wife is comedian Chelsea Peretti, with whom he's expecting his first child). "This movie is a true story," he joked. "No, everybody gets it. My family, they're all very smart, all very funny. This is not the story of my marriage at all."
There you have it!
