Jake Gyllenhaal Interrupts Seth Meyers's Show to FaceTime BFF Ryan Reynolds
Apparently, there are people out there who believe Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal's budding bromance is just a publicity ploy for their new movie, Life, and Jake was more than happy to put those rumors to rest during an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Thursday. Jake, who described Ryan as "just a great dude," pulled out his phone and FaceTimed his friend in front of the audience. Although he didn't pick up right away, he eventually called back while he was "pushing [his daughters'] baby strollers" around outside. It's not only another hilarious moment in the saga that is their (100 percent genuine) friendship, but also good practice since they're going to be doing a lot of FaceTiming in the future. Jake, after all, isn't allowed back at Ryan's house for quite a while.

3 Things to Never Say to Your Kids (and 3 Alternatives to Use Instead)
In the heat of an argument, especially with a child or teenager, it's easy to forget there are certain words or phrases we just shouldn't scream at them. You may not remember what you said in the moment, but they will, and the situation could come back to haunt you.
Finding the right way to express your frustrations or anger in the moment may have you fishing around for the right words, but according to Psychology Today, the following three phrases should never be said. Instead, there are three more appropriate alternatives to address your kids' behavior head-on - without causing your child to feel shame, fear, or guilt.
1. "You're making me crazy!"
Instead of using guilt to motivate a child, say this: "I don't like that behavior." Be sure to tell them why a behavior is not OK and explain the steps to change it. Help your child understand what he or she is doing to "drive you crazy," but don't let them feel entirely responsible for your mental or emotional state.
2. "What's wrong with you?"
This can cause a child to be ashamed of themselves, and as they grow up, they might doubt their own abilities or thoughts. Instead of using shame-inducing phrases, address the problem directly with "I don't like it when you ___." This will help them understand how to change their behavior.
3. "You'd better ___ or else!"
This phrase uses fear to ask a child to change, and it teaches them to get what they want through aggression or intimidation. A better alternative to say is "When you ___, I feel ___." This gives your child a chance to empathize with you and change his or her behavior.

Selena Gomez's Coach Jacket Does a Fancy Trick
As the brand ambassador for Coach, Selena Gomez seems to be having a blast dressing up in the label's cult favorite items. She styled the classic dinosaur sweater impeccably, finishing her look with a complementing patchwork handle bag. And later, when Selena teamed up with Coach and the label's charity partner Step Up to visit LA high schools, she stuck to her new signature uniform.
Selena started the day in Coach's camo rose jacket and eventually switched into the sporty reversible satin jacket. Her J Brand skinny jeans, ankle-strap heels, and white tank provided an easy foundation for not one, but technically three different coats. Selena contrasted her casual-cool looks with a hot pink Swagger bag, one final nudge to shop. Scroll to get inspired, then scoop up Selena's essentials of the day.

Dana Wolley is a fashion influencer located in the Middle East, and she's got quite the eclectic taste. You can imagine, then, that her wedding dress was not typical. Dana danced the night away in Nicholas Kirkwood platforms that she called "the most comfortable bridal shoe ever." Needless to say, we'd sacrifice a little comfort for a heel complete with a genuine hand-picked pearl too. Read on to see how she finally arrived at her majestic look, and check out the other outfits she slipped into before the reception even began.

How to Know When to Wash Your Bra, Once and For All
Bras aren't as basic as they seem - not when you consider the latest lingerie trends along with the fact that some ladies are game to show off their skivvies on the street. In other words, paying attention to upkeep is key.
We talked to a DKNY expert who not only filled us in on caring for tights, but offered us a full list of bra rules we promise we won't forget. Below you'll learn when it's time to wash your bras, how to store them both at home and in a suitcase, and the five essentials you really must shop STAT. Go ahead and read through the handbook.
When to Wash Your Bra
"The most sanitary and general recommendation is that you should wash your bra after two to three wears."
How to Clean Your Bra
"Hand-wash your intimates in cold water. That's the best way to ensure that your delicates don't snag."
How to Store Your Bras While Traveling
"Bras should be stored by nesting the bra cups together to keep their shape and place in a separate lingerie bag."
How to Store Your Bras at Home
"If you are storing a foam cup bra, keep them stacked in your drawer, but fabric cups such as bralettes are perfectly safe folded."
When to Replace Your Bras
"If worn on daily rotation, replace ever three to four months. If you see the band is stretched out, replace it right away, since it's not offering the proper support. I would suggest having seven to eight bras in your wardrobe and rotating them often so they last longer."
The Bra Material That Lasts the Longest
"Nylon, cotton, and mesh last the longest when taken care of properly."
The 5 Bras Every Woman Should Own
"A great t-shirt bra that's light, a strapless style, a beautiful and functional bralette, a trendy and supportive bra that's meant to be seen, and an everyday bra with a little added lift."

How to Help Your Child Become a Good Friend
Friendships are an integral part of life for most of us. I've been lucky to have found some amazing ones throughout my 37 years - I've known some of my closest friends for more than 20 years; others entered my life after I had my children - and I want the same for my almost 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son. But as we all know, along with the fun, laughter, support, and caring that comes with having friends, we occasionally encounter conflict, hurt feelings, anger, and sadness.
Friendships take work, just like any other relationship, and it's important that we give our children the tools to find good friends and become good friends themselves. Here's how to start.
- Start with self-esteem. The best friends are people who are already confident in themselves, not searching for others to fill an emotional void within. By working on your child's own self worth and confidence (praise their hard work and successes, highlight their best attributes regularly, etc.), you'll set them up to be a good friend to others.
- Model good friendship behavior. Our kids observe everything we do, so if they see and hear you reaching out to friends to check in, surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people, and investing time and energy into your friendships, they're likely to do the same.
- Focus on characteristics that make a good friend. Honesty, trustworthiness, empathy, and being a good listener are all important qualities in friendship, and they're probably things you already talk to your kid about. Keep up those lessons at home to ensure they're taking those qualities into their interactions with the rest of the world.
- Talk to them about their own special qualities and how to recognize others' unique gifts. Of course, friends don't have to be exactly alike, but it is important to have some similarities while respecting each other's differences. By talking to your child about their awesome sense of humor, intelligence, or thoughtfulness, she'll be more apt to value and seek out those qualities in others. At the same time, teach her to value others for their unique qualities (i.e. "You are so great at playing soccer, and Maddie loves to dance. Since you are both such good helpers, maybe you could help each other learn about your favorite activities.")
- Teach them the golden rule. It's basic, but a classic for good reason. Teaching your kids to treat others only as they'd want to be treated themselves covers a world of friendship questions and scenarios. In reverse, teach them to recognize when a friend isn't treating them as kindly as they treat that friend.
- Talk about friendship expectations. One of the greatest lessons my mom taught me when I was a child was that I should appreciate my friends for what they could offer, without expecting more. Maybe one friend is a great partner for playing dolls, while another loves to do crafts, and yet another is lots of fun at the park. Our friends don't have to be all things to us, and that's actually kind of great.
- Explore what a bad friend is and does. Taking the converse position can be a good tool. Talk to your child about what a bad friend might do - not listen, not ever suggest a play date, ignore or make fun of others - and you're also teaching her not to do those things and not to tolerate such behavior.
- Teach conflict resolution. Friends don't always agree or get along perfectly, which is why talking to your child about how to make up after an argument or disagreement is key. Accepting responsibility for our own mistakes, apologizing, and moving forward in a positive direction are key skills for friendships and relationships in general.
- Talk about popularity versus friendship quality. Especially for older kids, having friends can be more about popularity than creating actual deep bonds. Explain the difference and why the latter is way more valuable.
18 Selena Gomez Bikinigrams That Prove She's Definitely a 10
If there's one thing we love about Selena Gomez, it's that she's always game to show off her stylish swimsuits. After all, she's hot and she knows it. In fact, when the star called the TJ Show and was asked to rate her hotness on a scale from one to 10, she said, "On a good day, I would say - like a premiere day - I would be a good nine. And then, on my every day, I feel like a six. Gosh, that sounds so bad! I feel like a six or a seven."
But from the look of Selena's sun-kissed bikinigrams, for which she changes her style based on the prints, colors, and cuts of her suit, we'd say she's a definite 10 - even when she's on the beach with no makeup on. Scroll to find 18 times Selena proved she can work a swimsuit like it's nobody's business.
Do These 3 Things Before Breakfast to Encourage Weight Loss
If losing weight and getting healthier are on your mind, here are three things you can (and should!) do early in the morning before eating breakfast to help reach your goals.
- Sip on this: While drinking down a glass of water is a great way to detox the body and get your digestive juices flowing, if you go for apple cider vinegar (ACV) instead, you'll benefit from its weight-loss and immunity-boosting powers. Studies have shown that ACV may help keep you from feeling hungry by slowing stomach emptying; it also lowers the glycemic index of high-carb foods like pasta, meaning it can help you feel fuller longer by slowing the release of glucose into your bloodstream.
- Move: Exercising first thing in the morning has not only been shown to boost metabolism and burn more calories than those who exercise at other times, but it'll also improve your mood and inspire you to continue making healthy decisions throughout the day. Getting in your workout first thing in the morning also ensures that it won't get skipped. If you're not into doing a big workout on an empty stomach or you're short on time, just do a quick energizing yoga session.
- Breathe in and relax: Take at least 10 minutes for some meditation, to sit and breathe, to relax the body, to calm the mind, and to visualize and encourage mindful eating. Getting in the habit of meditating every morning can help you feel gratitude for the food you're about to eat, help you feel more satiated, and prevent overeating.

The 1 Thing You Should Try Adding to Your Scrambled Eggs
Some people add milk to their scrambled eggs, some prefer heavy cream, and some scramble them in bacon fat. Even if you think you've tried it all, there's one sneaky ingredient you might not have added before, and that's worcestershire sauce. I found this idea in a Facebook comment on our post about how chefs scramble eggs, and I knew I wanted to try it myself because I'm a huge fan of the incredibly savory condiment. The sauce, which is typically used for steak and Bloody Marys, is made of anchovies (yes, really), garlic, vinegar, molasses, salt, onions, chili peppers, and other spices.
So how does it taste in scrambled eggs? It's interesting, but in a good way - I totally approve. I recommend adding 1/4 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce per two eggs and whisking everything together well before cooking your eggs low and slow. The sauce is already really salty, so you don't need to add anymore. The eggs develop a slightly tangy, smoky, umami-rich flavor that's unlike any scrambled egg I've had before. If you have worcestershire sauce on hand anyway, give this a try. It just might become your favorite scrambled eggs recipe.

Why I'm Buying My Son a Doll
It amazes me that I am suddenly in the midst of planning my son's second birthday. Even though it feels like we just celebrated his first and not too long ago celebrated his birth, I need to start thinking about what to get him. In the grand scheme of a lifetime of birthdays, for him this one will go largely unremembered. He may be able to look at photos when he's older and feel a sense of what it was like to be 2 years old and just discovering the world. In these photos, I hope he will see a happy toddler, surrounded by his loving family, who is clutching his new doll tightly.
I was never the type of child that loved a particular doll. This was an oddity to most of my friends, who were busy collecting American Girl and baby dolls. However, my distaste of dolls was partially because, as an early feminist, I was frustrated that it was expected that I play with them. Ever the child to do something different, and because someone told me I couldn't, I preferred Hot Wheels in my Happy Meals to the miniature Disney princess figurines.
Dolls for me were an enigma; I just didn't get the point of them. Taking care of a baby seemed like hard work; why would I want to pretend to feed a baby doll and change its diaper? Maybe it was a lack of imagination or an unwillingness to see the dolls as representations of myself, but playing with dolls was always a play of last resort.
Still, that hasn't stopped my son from running straight for the dolls when we go to a play date with his female friends or at the indoor play space we frequent. Once he acquires the plastic and purple-diapered baby, he spends his remaining time there lugging her around from play station to play station.
With the announcement that American Girl will release their first boy doll, I was struck by how similar Logan Everett looked to my son. Although it's mostly that they are both white with lightish colored hair and eyes, there's something about his appearance that reminds me of my son. Here is an opportunity for him to play with a doll that is like a mini version of himself.
One of the hallmarks of doll play is representation. Through pretend playing, they are seeing a different version of themselves going on all kinds of adventures and doing a variety of activities. Certainly when he's older, he could play with large action figures and do a lot of the same imagination work. However, if all he is exposed to is action figures with capes and fancy iron suits, he is not being exposed to real-life versions of his future self. What separates dolls from action figures is that dolls remain fixed in reality, whereas action figures stray from that.
Although action figures encourage often violent and fight-sequence oriented play, dolls seem to do the opposite. Doll play encourages empathy and caring. Since the dolls look real, the play is often centered around articulating everyday behavior and care. Dolls are to be fed, included, loved, and cared for; not used for protecting Lego cities from impending destruction. We expect that men these days take on an equal role in child rearing. They change diapers and feed, love, play, and enjoy the company of their children. If we expect this behavior when the men become adults, then we should encourage it when they're still young.
Anecdotally speaking, my husband grew up with a My Buddy doll, and despite the doll's creepy similarity to the possessed Chucky, he loved it. His sisters have told me that he used to carry it around with him everywhere. My husband does more than his equal share of parenting, and I realize that it would be silly to say that this behavior can be attributed to his doll play as a child, but it's at least not out of the realm of possibility as a contributing factor.
I am self aware enough to recognize that it's likely that the same feminist motive that repelled me from dolls as a child is also now encouraging it for my son. There still seems to be a cloud that hangs over the idea of a boy playing with a doll, which kind of makes me want him to play with one. Although this isn't a great reason to do something, combined with how much my son loves playing with other children's dolls and the educational benefits, it becomes a no-brainer.
Of all the things I hope for my son, I want him to grow up happy and kind. As I watch him cradle the plastic baby doll, whose hair has long since faded and figure discolored from years of hugs, I know that he is content. I hope that years from now, when he's a parent himself, his time spent playing with a doll was well served.

This Easy DIY Proves Anyone Can Do Pin Curls Like a Pro
While I adore my curling iron (and wouldn't go on a vacation without it!), there is something to be said for being able to travel light. That's why pin curls are such an awesome solution. All you need is a bit of hair balm to create hold, bobby pins, and a blow dryer (though you can also just rely on the air and time, if needed). How easy and minimal is that?
If this technique seems intimidating, then don't worry. Hair pro Gina Schiappacasse of Hairstory, a cool downtown members-only salon, has broken down the steps in this easy tutorial. The result: those messy-sexy beach waves you crave. Keep reading, and prepare to be floored by how simple it is to do.

6 Places Kate Middleton Lived Before Becoming a Princess
Kate Middleton hasn't always resided in a 10-bedroom country estate or 21-room apartment at Kensington Palace. Long before meeting and marrying Prince William, Kate was just a regular girl who moved around with her family, studied abroad, lived in college dorms, and even shared a flat with her little sister. Here are all the places Kate lived before her life became a royal one.
- Berkshire, England: Kate was born to parents Michael and Carole Middleton at the ironically named Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. The upper-middle-class family lived in a modest, brick Victorian "with a cramped kitchen" in Bradfield Southend. They later purchased at Oak Acre, a five-bedroom Tudor-style country house in nearby Bucklebury, Berkshire.
- Amman, Jordan: While working as a flight dispatcher for British Airways, Michael and his family were relocated to Jordan. Kate lived there from 1984 to 1987.
- Wiltshire, England: Kate studied at Marlborough College, a coed boarding school, in 1996.
- Florence, Italy: After finishing her studies at Marlborough, 18-year-old Kate headed to Florence to study Italian and art history. She completed a three-month course at the British Institute of Florence in Palazzo dello Strozzino.
- Fife, Scotland: In 2001, Kate moved to Scotland to study at the University of St. Andrews and lived in three areas of on-campus student housing. It was at one of them, St Salvator's Hall, that she met Prince William. She went on to graduate with a master's degree in art history.
- London, England: Postcollege, Kate accepted a position as an accessory buyer with British retailer Jigsaw and moved into a flat in London's exclusive Chelsea neighborhood with her sister Pippa; Carole and Michael Middleton purchased the apartment in 2002 for all three of their children to live in. Pippa continued to reside there with their brother James well after Kate married Will and moved to a four-bedroom farmhouse on the Welsh island of Anglesey.
This Woman's Makeup Looks Date-Night Ready, but She's Actually in Labor
While we've heard of some women getting delivery-room blowouts and prelabor lash extensions, we've never seen someone give birth looking as glam as Instagram user makeupbyalaha. The New York-based makeup artist shared images of herself propped up in a hospital bed surrounded by palettes as she applied a full face of product . . . despite contractions.
"I was pausing during contractions and picking up where I left off once the contractions passed," she explained to her followers. She even revealed which of her favorite makeup items made the cut into her hospital bag. You'll notice that there are at least 15 brushes, a 35-pan shadow palette, contouring products, Beautyblenders, and more.
While not all moms would go this far with their prebaby beauty routine, we have to applaud Alaha's dedication to her craft - and her ability to create such a gorgeous makeup masterpiece while in pain! Read on to see all the photos.

You'll Light Up the Night When You Try This Neon Eyeliner Trend From Instagram
We're suckers for an amazing new eyeliner idea, from pizza to mermaid, and not forgetting unicorn liner. Our current obsession is neon eyeliner, and it will make you do a double take, because it is seriously vibrant!
Instagram is never lacking for creativity and incredible talent, but these neon eyeliner (and lip art) looks are on another level of 3D makeup skills. To achieve this bold look, makeup artists have used a bright white or silver as the main liner focus, followed with a bright-colored liner or shadow on either side which has been buffed out and blended fully into a smoky eye. Usually created with a black smoky eye to increase the lightsaber-glow factor, it is seriously cool. One makeup artist, Luna aka @Openmindfreesoul, took the trend to another level by creating a bright pink neon skeleton.
There are no words to describe the skill - scroll through and see for yourself!
I Was a MAC Pro For 11 Years, and This Is What It's Really Like to Work There
I worked for MAC Cosmetics for 11 years, and it was wonderful! I worked for them as a retail manager in both California and New York City. I was lucky enough to get the job even though I was a telephone operator with no prior experience! I just happened to love MAC and was at the counter at least twice a week. I often would do my friends' makeup at the counter, and a small group of customers would gather, the manager noticed and encouraged me to interview for a job, and boom! I got it and was hired as part of the management team. Makeup always came naturally, and I definitely had a huge passion for makeup and product. Here is what I learned being part of the MAC Pro team.
Your Lips Will Be in Full-On Fairy Mode With Lime Crime’s New Top Coats
A spectrum of holographic "unicorn" and metallic lipstick top coats have surfaced into the beauty world, and we must admit that we aren't mad about the trend at all. Not only is rocking these rainbow-like products just a way to solidify your status as a mythical creature, but it's an equally fun way to give any basic lip color new life.
Lime Crime, a brand known for its incredibly vibrant lip hues, has tapped into the recent trend with the release of its Diamond Crushers collection ($19 each). Now, the brand is extending the range with three new colors that will make your lips bling: Black Unicorn, a shimmering oil-slick hue; Cleopatra, a blush-toned rose gold; and Acid Fairy, an iridescent shade with flecks of lavender and mint. The brand is also launching a Black Unicorn bundle ($40) with all three colors so you don't have to worry about picking favorites.
Unlike other recent top coat launches, Lime Crime's Diamond Crushers are not to be confused with gloss. Instead, the water-based formula functions as a topper that can be worn alone or over your favorite lipstick. Each shade promises superlong wear without drying out your pout. They are also nontransferable so you won't have to worry about your fairy dust lipstick smudging on your clothes.
The exact launch date for these colors is not yet confirmed, but according to the brand website, you can expect them to drop soon. You can also sign up to be notified as soon as they are available. In the meantime, read on to get a better look at the gorgeous shades up close!
You Are Better Than a Smoky Eye - So Don't Ask For It Again
After being a makeup artist for over a decade, I can pretty much size you up the minute I see you coming. I can quickly assess you by your outfit, your bag, your hairstyle, and your jewelry and know immediately that you want only a tinted moisturizer. I know that, even when you say you want something more than that, you won't like it.
I know that you use retinol everyday without you telling me. I know that you have botox and fillers. I know that you only wear chapstick on your very chapped lips. When you say "Um yeah, I have an eye cream," with hesitation, I know that you are referring to the free Clinique sample that has been in your drawer for at least a year. I also know that you are compulsively plucking your brows that "just never grow!"
I don't judge. I really don't care what you do at home. Please, I am asking you to just be honest.
I can also tell as soon as you sit in my chair, if you can handle a lot of makeup or not. But without fail at least once a day, a preppy, non-makeup wearing woman will sit down and look me straight in the face and say "I think I would like a smoky eye."
I don't know who came up with this clever term, but if I ever meet him I will punch him in the face.
You don't want a smoky eye. You like the idea of it. You see Kim Kardashian on Pinterest and you fantasize about having this sultry look the next time you are attending a wedding or bar mitzvah. You imagine yourself as a much younger, sexier version of yourself, and you think that at the ripe age of 37 you are now ready to look like that sexy woman on Instagram with fake eyelashes and "contour" and black eyeliner rimming every inch of your eyeball.
Sometimes you have a Naked Palette from Urban Decay so you think you are edgy, but if you were to be honest you would admit you only use the lightest shades in the palette and the darker colors are untouched. You may have watched the tutorials on YouTube on "how to create a smoky eye," so you think you are ready for it.
You're not.
I know it.
You will have to learn the hard way.
"So do you normally wear a lot of eye makeup?" I ask innocently, while I prep your skin. I start with a soft fleshy tone on your lid and then I add a little bit of a darker tone. Never a true smoke color, because I don't want you to cry or run away. You will clutch the hand mirror and ask if you can look. I will let you.
I know. Please stop saying this. I don't even know how to make someone look like a clown. If you hired me to do clown makeup I would have to decline the job. I am not in the clown business. I am simply attempting to do what you requested me to do.
PS. We haven't created any "smoke" yet.
You will clutch your mirror and try to watch what I am doing, as you give me permission to proceed. I will add some dark brown or smoky color in your crease. I add some smudgy black liner and some mascara. You don't even have two layers of fake lashes on yet like a Kardashian. I see that you are clutching your hand mirror and your knuckles are white so I let you take a peek.
You don't. But you also don't look like yourself.
I ask if you would like me to take off some of the makeup and gently remind you that you are nowhere near the amount of makeup featured in the Instagram photo that you showed me when you first sat down. You sheepishly say that you would like to take off some of the liner . . . and maybe some of the dark shadow.
I take off the makeup.
You say "Maybe just do what you think looks best?"
Now we can get along.
I suggest a more realistic "eye look" that will allow you to feel comfortable while still making you look good. I say "Let's create a look that shows off your eye color and makes you look like a better version of yourself." The tension in your shoulders lessens and the grip on the hand mirror relaxes a bit."Yes, let's do that." you say with relief.
Because you are not Kim Kardashian, nor do you want to be. You will not be followed by the flashbulbs of the paparazzi and you will not spend your days taking selfies. You simply want to look like a better version of yourself and a "smoky eye" does not do that for most women.
You will leave with hydrated glowing skin and makeup that makes your blue eyes pop and your cheekbones glow. You are simply a better version of yourself, and you will walk out the door with your head held high and a little bit of a skip in your step.
You are better than a smoky eye. So don't ask for it again.
