7 Facts About Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy's Under-the-Radar Romance
Image Source: Getty / James Devaney
Mary-Kate Olsen is a notoriously private person, especially when it comes to her relationship with Olivier Sarkozy. Since marrying the 47-year-old half-brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the 30-year-old fashion designer has been pretty tight-lipped about her romance, only briefly mentioning him once during an interview with The Edit. While the two certainly shy away from talking about each other to the press, they have been known to show PDA from time to time when they attend sporting events. If you're curious to know more about them, we've gathered a few interesting details about their relationship below.
1. They Dated For 3 Years Before Tying the Knot
Despite their 17-year age gap, the two began dating in 2012 after meeting at a party. Mary-Kate - who was 25 at the time - had reportedly been complaining about "boys not being mature enough for her," and after just one month together, the two were "head over heels" for each other.
2. They Lived in $6.25 Million Townhouse
While they were dating, Mary-Kate stayed with Olivier at his lavish Manhattan townhouse. In 2015, they upgraded to a $13.5 million home by the Turtle Bay Garden.
3. Mary-Kate Turned Down Olivier's Proposal at First
After only 10 months of dating, Olivier was eager to "lock [Mary-Kate] down for life," but she made him wait and said no when he first brought up marriage. "She wasn't ready," a source told Us Weekly. "She didn't need to be wined and dined. She wanted to make sure he would be good to her."

4. Her Engagement Ring Is Worth More Than $80,000
Of course, Mary-Kate eventually said yes when Olivier proposed in 2014 with a four-carat vintage Cartier diamond ring that he reportedly purchased for $81,250 at a Sotheby's auction.
5. They Had a Hard Time Locking Down a Wedding Date
The two were originally going to tie the knot in June in the Hamptons but reportedly "changed their plans a million times."
6. They Got Married in a Private Ceremony
Almost a year after getting engaged, the couple wed in a small ceremony in Manhattan with 50 of their closest family and friends on Nov. 27, 2015. According to a Page Six source, guests were required to turn in their cell phones ahead of the ceremony, where the party decor consisted of "bowls and bowls filled with cigarettes."
7. Mary-Kate Is a Stepmom
Mary-Kate is now a stepmom to Oliver's two kids, Julien, 13, and Margo, 11, from his previous marriage to Charlotte Bernard. And there's no bad blood with Olivier's ex either. "Mary-Kate asks her permission about things that concern the kids," an Us Weekly source said. "So Charlotte loves her!"
Tyler Florence's Hack Will Forever Change the Way You Make Mashed Potatoes
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Nicole Perry
Food Network chef Tyler Florence shared his mashed potatoes recipe with us, and I immediately had to try it. Traditionally, potatoes are cooked in water before being mashed together with butter and cream (or milk). However, Tyler suggests cooking the potatoes in the cream itself, so no potato-y flavor is lost. He explains, "Potatoes have a really delicate, beautiful minerality to their flavor profile, and when you cook potatoes in water and you pour that water down the drain, you've extracted all the flavor of the potato. So what I do with mashed potatoes - because you finish them with cream and butter anyway, right? - is I'll take that same cream and butter and add that to the potatoes and cook the potatoes in cream and butter." Would that actually work? Would it actually taste good? I had to find out.

As Tyler instructed, I added "cold, peeled, chopped potatoes, cream, butter, and olive oil" to a pan. He also told us, "I like garlic. I like sage and rosemary flavor combinations, and a little bit of thyme." To my pot of 3 pounds of potatoes, I added enough half and half to just barely cover the potatoes. Frankly, I was scared about using straight cream, which is why I deviated slightly from his instruction. I then added about 3 tablespoons of salted butter and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. I added a few cloves of peeled garlic and half a bunch each of sage, rosemary, and thyme. I also included a significant amount of salt (at least a teaspoon) so the potatoes could absorb some of the flavor while cooking. I covered the pot and allowed it to simmer on medium until the potatoes became fork tender, about 20 minutes. The aroma in my kitchen was unbelievable.

Here's what Tyler told us to do next: "When the potatoes are tender, I put a bowl on the counter and a colander inside that bowl. I pour the potatoes through the colander, and the cream will collect on the bottom. Then I'll put the potatoes back into the pot and take the potato-infused garlic cream and fold that back into the potatoes, and it's the most incredible flavor profile. It's the best mashed potato you'll ever taste in your entire life." And so, I did just that. I drained the potatoes, collecting the rich liquid while discarding the herb stems. I then mashed the potatoes, adding back in the liquid until I created velvety smooth mashed potatoes with little specks of garlic and herbs. I salted and peppered to taste and served up with my lemon-garlic-parsley roast turkey and gravy. These mashed potatoes are pure heaven. I can now agree with Tyler's affirmation; they really are the best mashed potatoes I've ever tasted in my entire life. And even though I was scared it would be a huge flop, I'm never going back to any other method again.

Let's Take a Minute to Stare in Wonder at the Shirtless Body of Iron Fist's Lewis Tan
Netflix's Iron Fist might be getting panned by critics, but there's still one very important reason why you should watch it: Lewis Tan. In fact, if you want to go ahead and skip all the way to episode eight just to watch the talented 30-year-old actor, model, and trained martial artist do his thing, we wouldn't blame you. He's charming, charismatic, and . . . oh, that's right, really f*cking hot. Because there are still a few good things left in the world, Lewis has been kind enough to fill his Instagram with shirtless photos that are guaranteed to brighten your day (they certainly brightened ours). So, presented without further comment is a treasure trove of half-naked thirst. Proceed with caution (and maybe a fire extinguisher).
How to Get Nail Polish Off Just About Anything
Into every life, a little nail polish must fall. But just because you accidentally lacquered your skirt, desk, or couch, that doesn't mean the stuff has to stay there. The faster you act, the better off you'll be, and most materials respond well to solvents you already have lying around the house. See our easy polish stain fixes now.
Removing Polish From Wood
First rule: don't use nail polish remover on wood. It actually ruins finishes and leaves new, maybe even worse looking, stains. Don't panic, though, because there's actually a really easy way to fix the polish-on-wood problem. Just spritz your polish puddle down with plenty of hair spray (we use Aqua Net), let it sit for about 20 seconds, and then wipe it off. You might need to repeat the process a few times, but it's far, far preferable to having splotchy furniture.
Removing Polish From Cloth
Probably one of the most common polish problems, this is also a tricky one. Nail polish remover can interact with some dyes and fabrics (it'll actually melt acetate), so perform a spot test before you use it. If you use remover on your fabric, make sure to launder it directly afterward. And if remover isn't an option, you can always try hair spray. Dry cleaning solvent can also usually remove polish, so if you can't get it out at home, don't be afraid to run it down to your cleaners.
Removing Polish From Hair
If you were in a rush and ended up both ruining your nails and painting up your hair, the fix is pretty simple. If the polish is still wet, just grab some non-acetone polish remover and run it down the polished strands. If it's dry already, work some conditioner or oil gently through your hair until you can slide the polish bits out.
Removing Polish From Carpet
First of all, what color is your carpet? If it's light or white, using a non-acetone polish remover is probably your best bet. If it's dark and you're not sure about whether the dye might interact with it, try pouring on hair spray or rubbing alcohol and then blotting the polish up with a sponge or paper towels. Don't give up if the polish just seems to keep coming - you want to get every last bit out.
The Reason This Woman Was Sent Home From Work Will Fill You With Rage
Toronto resident Akua Agyemfra, 20, was unexpectedly sent home from her job at Jack Astor's Bar and Grill for wearing her natural hair up in a bun.
In an interview with CBC News, Agyemfra explained that the establishment required its female employees to wear their hair down, however, she had recently taken out her extensions and wished to wear her natural hair up. It was at this point that her manager allegedly asked her to leave and not return until her strands were down. While we can't quite fathom why a restaurant would require its servers to wear their mane loose, Agyemfra's story feels particularly enraging.
Of her interaction with her manager, she said, "I take pride in my natural hair. I took it out for her in the office so she can see that it doesn't really go down. She understood that, from my understanding." Unfortunately, her manager still sent her home, thereby causing Agyemfra to have "embarrassing" conversations with her fellow employees about the reason for her sudden departure.
This whole exchange is disheartening. It seems as though Agyemfra's only two options were to continue wearing extensions or opt for her preferred, natural texture. However, if she chose the latter, she wouldn't be able to style it in a way she found "more professional." Both of these choices were ultimately disadvantageous. We hope that this event can lead to thoughtful dialogue about arbitrary (and possibly insensitive) hair requirements such as these.

9 Simple Hacks to Make Straight Hair Hold a Curl
While I don't suffer from frizz and rainy days don't drive me to tears, I'm still frequently frustrated by my straight hair. It may have a reputation of being one of the easiest textures to manage, but styling is another test entirely. And that's a test I rarely pass. My arduous attempts to add glossy curls to my look always end with the same result: limp, flat locks.
Determined to master my own mane, I reached out to Herbal Essences celebrity stylist Charles Baker Strahan. Turns out, I've been blaming my strands when I'm the one with the terrible technique!
"Naturally straight hair textures can be more difficult to curl," he explained, "but usually the challenges are created in the approach to actually getting the hair to curl." Everything from how I wash my hair to where in my home I use hot tools makes a difference. If your curls unravel, too, read on! Strahan shared nine ways to ensure styling success.

Why You Actually Do Not Want to Wear BB Cream - Ever Again!
Do you even know what you are asking for? Have you actually taken a second to look in the mirror recently to look at your skin with this so-called "beauty balm" on it? If you had, you would notice that the skin on your face looks like the Sahara desert and you would not be back here asking for more of this hellish product.
As a working makeup artist, at least once a day, a client will say to me "I don't want a foundation - I just want a BB cream." Without fail, the same conversation will follow this announcement:
"Oh, OK, so you would like something oil-free?" I answer while I look at this poor woman's dry, flaky skin.
"Absolutely not! I have dry skin!" she will exclaim in horror.
"OK, so you like something with a heavy coverage." I try again.
"No! I don't like anything heavy," she will explain.
"OK, so you just want something that is matte?" I will ask calmly.
"No. I think I like to look a little dewy," she will answer.
A BB cream is in fact a foundation.
And we are back to square one. I will then explain to her that a BB cream is in fact a foundation. It can be used as a primer under a foundation or as an actual foundation. Either way, it serves to provide moderate to heavy coverage and is meant to be applied all over the face to even out skin tone and hide imperfections, as most traditional foundations do.
It is all quite confusing because "BB" stands for "beauty balm" in the Western world, when in fact this product very rarely helps anyone to look beautiful. Instead, everyone wearing it generally walks around with pale skin that looks like sandpaper.
Whoever came up with the marketing scheme that is the BB cream is a genius. He or she has convinced women across the globe that this is the product for them. Hidden behind the promise of a high level of SPF, there lies a product that is meant to provide heavy matte coverage leaving skin lifeless, dull, and without an ounce of color.
This is not a look or feel that suits most women's skin. Yet, many of you - even after you look in the mirror and see a lackluster face staring back at you and touch your skin and notice that it feels like an alligator - you actually come back to the store and ask again for a BB cream!
It is at this point that I break the news. A BB cream is not for you. It is not for any person, really, unless they are extremely oily and acne-prone.
A big reason American women have been so enticed by this product is that it promises to be an "all-in-one." It provides high levels of SPF, moisturizer, serum, primer, and foundation all in one swipe. To Americans, who are generally rushing in the morning and have very limited time for proper skin care, this sounds delightful.
Alas, like everything else in life, slow and steady wins the race. It is to our benefit to find the time to moisturize and prime our skin before our makeup.
For those of us that claim to "not have enough time" for skin care and primer in the morning, perhaps we can take a closer look at what we do "have time" for. I, for one, have time to watch the weather at least three times on the Today show while I sip my coffee. I also usually find time to check my email and look at Facebook. I often engage in several witty and entertaining text conversations with my girlfriends about nothing.
If we really examine our morning routines, most of us will find that we do in fact have the two extra minutes required to apply a serum, a moisturizer, and a proper primer. These extra minutes that we are applying products with our fingers to our face will make a world of difference in how our skin looks when our makeup is applied. It also ensures that our skin is being properly cared for and hydrated.
Everyone wearing it generally walks around with pale skin that looks like sandpaper.
Those who seek natural coverage should follow those steps with a tinted moisturizer. This step evens out skin tone and provides a light coverage and sunscreen. My two favorite brands of tinted moisturizer are Laura Mercier and Trish McEvoy. Both products will help your skin to look like a better version of itself.
If it is more coverage that you need, then a CC cream is the way to go. CC stands for "color correction," and these products are better suited for most skin types as they are dewy and hydrating and cover imperfections impeccably. My personal favorite is the IT Cosmetics CC Cream. It is a miraculous product that will change your life. This product also claims to provide serum, moisturizer, and primer, but I think it best to do those steps separately to be sure that your skin is treated and primed perfectly.
When all is said and done, do what is best for your lifestyle and your skin! Take five minutes and sit down with a makeup artist or skin care expert to determine what is best for you and stick with it . . . no matter what the latest trendy foundation is to come down the pike.
After applying your foundation, you should always look in the mirror and ask, "Does my skin look like skin? Do I look like a better version of myself?"
If the answer is no, then throw it out and try again.

This Video of a Little Girl Freestyle Dancing to "Truffle Butter" Will Make You Feel Inadequate
There have been plenty of impressive dance videos that have hit the internet lately, but when the one and only star is a little girl, it takes things to a whole new level. Back in 2015, Sara "Lil' Mini" Phoenix jammed out to Nicki Minaj's hit "Truffle Butter," and, needless to say, she absolutely killed it. While most of the dance videos we've seen have been choreographed, Sara's routine is 100 percent freestyle. We constantly rewatch her insane moves, so see them above, then check out this sexy routine to Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You."

I Put Under Armour's Gear to the Sweat Test So You Don't Have To
I'm a gym rat - I've always been a gym rat - and one of the hardest things about keeping up my rigorous (albeit lazy) training schedule has been maintaining adequate workout gear. Yes, I have an entire drawer dedicated to long and capri tights, low- and high-intensity sports bras, and more antislip socks than even a toddler would need, but almost all of it is junk. It's all stuff I inherited from my marathon-running father (gross, but his running t-shirts from the '70s are classics) or leftover team t-shirts from college club volleyball, which are stiff and tight.
So when I heard about an opportunity to road test (or sweat test) Under Armour products at Kohl's, I raised my hand. I wanted to put these pieces right to work. It didn't matter if I was taking a post-work Pilates class or playing three hours of competitive volleyball, I wanted to find some new favorites. Here's how it all stacked up.
What I did in it: Pilates reformer
Post-workout thoughts: I sweat a lot in Pilates. Not because I'm working particularly hard (though I am), but because any time I'm balancing surreptitiously on the reformer I am terrified of falling and injuring myself, so my hands and feet sweat constantly. Following class, I was mostly dry up top, with some slight inner-boob sweat. The 4-way stretch construction made this exceptionally comfortable, too.
Overall rating:
What I did in them: Three-mile run
Post-workout thoughts: The first thing I noticed when I put these on was how light they were (that's that four-way stretch). Not all tights slide on easily, but these were pretty simple. I didn't have to tug at them during the run (which is a huge plus), and I was almost all dry after my run. Because they're made with a sweat-wicking technology, I'd definitely run in these pants again.
Overall rating:
Tech Half-Zip Long-Sleeve Shirt
What I did in it: Three-mile run
Post-workout thoughts: I was pleasantly surprised by how warm this long-sleeved shirt felt considering how thin it is. Following my runs, I usually like to walk a block or two to cool down, and though the shirt remained mostly dry, the parts that were damp made my skin a little cold. All in all, it's hard to find lightweight long-sleeved tops that are warm, and this one definitely delivered.
Overall rating:
What I did in it: Took a cycling class
Post-workout thoughts: It gets brutally warm at my indoor cycling class. Even a thin tank top can feel like I'm wearing a thick velour top if it's made of the wrong fabric. Made with UA Tech™ fabric, I knew that this Under Armour tank would keep me cool - it was lightweight and stretchy, which is the perfect combo for a cycling class.
Overall rating:

While I adore my curling iron (and wouldn't go on a vacation without it!), there is something to be said for being able to travel light. That's why pin curls are such an awesome solution. I Tried 13 Mascaras to See Which One Works Best on Asian Lashes
When a quick Google search informed me that CoverGirl's Lashblast Length mascara had been discontinued (#RIP), I was devastated. Like most Asian women, I have naturally thin and short lashes, and that particular CoverGirl formula was the most effective at making them seem longer and fuller. An eyelash-extension expert once told me my lashes were about 8mm long (less than an inch!), and since then I have vowed to have lashes 10mm or longer. But getting lash extensions every two weeks for the rest of my life wasn't really practical.
The next best solution: finding a new mascara I can be 100 percent committed to. I sourced friends, co-workers, and the internet to research which mascaras work best, specifically for Asian lashes. I was on the hunt for a mascara that would deliver both volume and length in one easy-to-use tube, and I realized: isn't that what most people want? Just more so if you have fine eyelashes. After trying 13 different mascaras, I can safely say I found some formulas that make saying goodbye to my old CoverGirl standby a lot easier.

10 Fun Facts About Ed Sheeran That You Can Use as Talking Points at Parties
Ed Sheeran is having a major moment right now, and we really can't think of anyone who deserves it more. After his new album, Divide, was released in early March, the singer has been all over the map. In addition to delivering one killer performance after the next, he's also opened up about his romance with girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, touched on his friendship with Taylor Swift, and inspired some pretty unbelievable dance videos. But do you ever say to yourself, "I would really love to know more about him"? Us too. Keep reading for 10 fun facts you might not have known about the "Supermarket Flowers" singer.
- In 2009, he played in more than 300 live shows and gigs while trying to get noticed. When Ed was just 18, he played a show almost every single day of the year in order to try to build his career from the ground up. "I gigged pretty much every day," he told the Daily Mail in 2012 about his dedication. "My dad cut this article out about James Morrison. He said, 'Look, this dude did 200 gigs in a year. He got the experience and then he got signed.' My dad's attitude is to take someone you admire and not so much copy them as take their work ethic and do it twice as much."
- He names all of his guitars. The singer revealed that he names his guitars after people in his working crew. Past guitars have been named Chris, Trev, James I, and James II.
- He sees his songs in color. Being the true artist that he is, Ed's songs aren't just lyrics to him. "All my songs have colors," he's said. "'You Need Me I Don't Need You' for example is aubergine. It's a sad song about struggling."
- He gave Harry Styles a tattoo. Ed actually tattooed a padlock on the One Direction singer's wrist. Harry later revealed that he's come to regret the ink, saying, "I regret this one on my wrist here [pointing to the padlock]. I mean, these are just crap. There are some that my friends have done and some that are just awful."
- Ed estimates that he has between 60 and 100 tattoos himself. His collection of ink includes three boxing gloves, a shamrock filled in with the Irish flag, a giant family tree, a teacup, the Heinz Tomato Ketchup logo, a Canadian maple leaf, and "Red" after Taylor Swift's album.
- He also has one in honor of his favorite TV show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Ed has the word "Prince" tattooed in green letters on his bicep. When asked about the meaning behind it, Ed said, "I played in Philadelphia and I was on tour with my friends, the Rizzle Kicks, who were my opening act. And I got 'Prince,' Jordan got 'Fresh' on his leg, and Harley got on his arm 'on the playground where I spent most of my days.'"
- He's relatable when it comes to food. During a 2012 radio interview, Ed got hilariously honest about his outlook on having a chiseled body, saying, "I have never had a six-pack and will never have a six-pack, so I might as well stuff my face." Same, Ed. Same.
- Taylor Swift actually contacted him first. We've all come to know and love Ed and Taylor's close friendship, and it turns out that the "Style" singer was the one to make the first move. After one of her managers saw him performing at a show in Nashville back in the day, Taylor contacted him because she instantly fell in love with his music. "['Lego House'] just cut through everything else," Taylor told Rolling Stone.
- He has a refreshing outlook on fame. Ed, who has given fans glimpses of his normal and happy childhood through his music videos, still seems to be that same down-to-earth kid from the English countryside. "I've always said that I wanna be known as the nicest and hardest working guy in the industry, so if I could be known as that that would be brilliant," he said in 2012.
- He can speak German and Greek. Not a lot, but it's still something!

These Were the Top 5 Plastic Surgery Procedures of 2016 - Are You Surprised?
With the influx of Instagram filters and face-smoothing applications, it should come as no surprise that with all that pressure across social media, there were a LOT of plastic surgery procedures performed in 2016. According to data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were almost 1.8 million cosmetic surgeries performed last year, with a heavy focus on fillers and facelifts. There's also a growing trend of fat transfers for patients.
The top five most popular cosmetic surgical procedures included:
- Breast augmentation (290,467 procedures, up 4 percent from 2015)
- Liposuction (235,237 procedures, up 6 percent from 2015)
- Nose reshaping (223,018 procedures, up 2 percent from 2015)
- Eyelid surgery (209,020 procedures, up 2 percent from 2015)
- Facelifts (131,106 procedures, up 4 percent from 2015)
The report shows there were also 15.5 million cosmetic minimally invasive procedures in 2016, with the top five including:
- Botulinum Toxin Type A (i.e. Botox and Dysport) (7 million procedures, up 4 percent from 2015)
- Soft tissue fillers (2.6 million procedures, up 2 percent from 2015)
- Chemical peel (1.36 million procedures, up 4 percent since 2015)
- Laser hair removal (1.1 million procedures, down 1 percent from 2015)
- Microdermabrasion (775,000 procedures, down 3 percent from 2015)
In addition to the increase in fat transfer procedures, labiaplasty surgery has increased by 39 percent since the year before. Yup - that's when the surgeon "rejuvenates the labia by lifting and/or injecting fat or filler into the area."
Dr. Debra Johnson, President of the ASPS, explained that the areas of surgery have changed a lot over the years, including down under.
"As cosmetic procedures become more common we are seeing more diversity in the areas of the body that patients are choosing to address," she said. "A decade ago plastic surgeons might have seen a patient every seven to 10 years when they needed a major procedure like a facelift or tummy tuck. Now patients have ongoing relationships with their plastic surgeons and feel more comfortable discussing all areas of their body that they may be interested in rejuvenating."

A spectrum of holographic "unicorn" and metallic lipstick top coats have surfaced into the beauty world, and we must admit that we aren't mad about the trend at all. Not only is rocking these rainbow-like products just a way to solidify your status as a mythical creature, but it's an equally fun way to give any basic lip color new life.
Lime Crime, a brand known for its incredibly vibrant lip hues, has tapped into the recent trend with the release of its Diamond Crushers collection ($19 each). The brand is also launching a Black Unicorn bundle ($40) with all three colors so you don't have to worry about picking favorites.
Unlike other recent top coat launches, Lime Crime's Diamond Crushers are not to be confused with gloss. They are also nontransferable so you won't have to worry about your fairy dust lipstick smudging on your clothes.

Rupert Grint Says He Made Ed Sheeran Up to Create "Real Magic" After Harry Potter
The resemblance between Rupert Grint and Ed Sheeran is nothing new (personally, we don't see it, besides the red hair). While we've loved each of them individually for their amazing careers and talents (one blessed us with Harry Potter, the other with Divide), Rupert decided to come clean about what's really going on during a recent stop at MTV. In a hilarious skit with Josh Horowitz, the Snatched actor revealed that Ed actually isn't a real person. He explained that he made Ed up after Harry Potter ended because he wanted to create "real magic," but it's now become too hard to lead a double life. "I created a character," he said. "He had the voice of an angel, impossibly wispy facial hair . . . so I bought a guitar and a bunch of flannel. I called him Ed, Ed Sheeran. Such a weird name, right?" Before ultimately deciding to still keep Ed around, Rupert also made a hilarious confession about Taylor Swift's cats. Watch the whole thing above.

The Hills alum has been sharing a number of pictures of her and Jay - who was recently released from the Chicago Bears - on their beach getaway, including a snap of herself posing on a swing. "At one of the most magical places I've ever been....✨," she captioned the photo. While it's still unclear where the couple is currently vacationing, Kristin's photos look very similar to the ones Shay Mitchell shared from her vacation in Tulum, Mexico in January. Perhaps she was inspired by the Pretty Little Liars star?

If You Experience Hormonal Breakouts, You'll Thank God For This Mask
I've yet to find a woman who hasn't encountered this issue: you're about to embark on that time of the month, and your skin appears to be mirroring just how annoyed, inflamed, and pissed off you feel on the inside. (If you haven't, please DM me immediately so I can paint a full picture.) But I've found something that has helped my skin during this monthly visit - premenstrual, if you will - and it doesn't require removing my uterus. Yay! In fact, it's a face mask, and it's going to be something you will wish they sold at Costco. Someone just get me a giant vat of this stuff.
The mask comes from Renée Rouleau, Demi Lovato's go-to esthetician and Texas native. She has helped me with two major skin care woes in my life, issues that have plagued me. First, she is the one who identified that I had melasma when I was 25. Mid-20s me thought the dark spots on my forehead and cheeks, which could appear to be shadows to the naked eye, were remnants of my self-tanner that I wasn't able to wash off. (To be young and naive.) It was during a facial at her Dallas location that she gently brought up that I had melasma and informed me of what triggered it: my birth control.
This changed my life. Seriously. I got off birth control, something I was able to do without worry at the time. I stopped upsetting my melanocytes - the cells that produce melanin, or pigment, in the skin - with heated, aggressive treatments. (For the most part.) I wore a hat to the beach and aspired to stay out of the heat in general, knowing the temperature could set my melasma off. And although there's a little bit on my forehead, it's less noticeable than it once was.
Then, a few years later, I had a breakout after leaving the Coachella Valley. God help me. My cheeks were ridden with red bumps and pustules, something I knew wasn't normal, and I realized they recurred each time I left Palm Springs. My (since dropped) dermatologist was quick to prescribe me pills to kill whatever it was, but wanting actual answers, I wrote Renée, who is now based in Austin. She asked me a variety of questions about my weekend that helped her pinpoint what I was experiencing: acne cosmetica. Spending long days in the dry climate with heavy winds and an oil-based foundation meant my pores were being blocked by my foundation and increased my oil production, resulting in what looks like a breakout. She made an easy suggestion: wear powder foundation on your next trip. And you know what? I haven't had a breakout in the desert since!
Now you know that I trust this woman. She dug deeper than my dermatologist bothered to in order to find the right solution. This is incredibly helpful when you're trying to fix any skin issue you have; it is invaluable.
Visiting Renée over Golden Globes weekend, I got a chance to receive a facial and learn about her new products. First, she told me I needed to "put the fire out of my skin." It was inflamed as hell, and I had several cysts that I hadn't battled with in some time. And truth be told, it kind of comes with the territory when you're testing skin care products regularly, but she reminded me that I must be gentle. She took a minute to give my skin a chill pill in the form of a rubber mask, then introduced me to her newest baby, an anti-breakout solution for hormonal acne that won't dry out your skin: the Rapid Response Detox Masque ($61).
Is it too good to be true? No. It works. I've tested it for a month, and I'm currently wearing the sheerest foundation I own - a compact from Laneige - if that gives you any indication. It works to help with clogged pores that result from travel, hormones, and even sleeping with makeup on. Renée suggests it for premenstrual acne to help "disrupt the acne cycle." This is mask is lightweight and dreamy; when it dries, it doesn't feel hard, sticky, or taut. Renée suggests exfoliating before applying the mask, so lightly scrub or use a peel to help get rid of dead skin. The mask itself is a golden, shimmery gel. Slather it on and let the following eliminate your future breakouts: tea tree leaf oil is antimicrobial and an anti-inflammatory that helps with acne bacteria. Helping to stop inflammation is key when it comes to getting rid of your breakouts, which is why she also included lichocalchone, or Chinese licorice, which helps soothe the skin. Manuka branch/leaf oil helps with the microbial - or bacteria - count on your skin's surface, and she included a salicylic acid complex to help exfoliate and reduce oil.
This mask doesn't include parabens, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, SD alcohol, or gluten, which my skin was thrilled about. I use it once a week, and it's recommended you leave on for about 15 minutes. (I tend to go over since I get distracted and forget I have it on.) Many masks take a few minutes to get off because they leave patches of product behind. This slides off the skin easily and leaves your with a glow afterward.
Investing in your skin, period, is always a good idea, but especially during that time of the month. My skin will take any help it can get!
I Walk My Kids on a Leash - and So Should Every Other Sane Parent
We're happy to present this article by Eden Strong from one of our favorite sites, YourTango.
My kids are very well-behaved, but they happen to have the attention span of a goldfish.
I could see her looking at me out of the corner of her eye - the woman in the queue line next to us in Disney World. Well, to be fair, she wasn't looking at me as much as she was looking at my son who was wearing a child leash . . . tied to my wrist.
My kids are what I call "wanderers."
They're pretty much an exact representation of the "less than bright blonde" portrayed in many slapstick comedy movies. One minute they're walking along with intent and purpose and the very next they're all, "Ooohh, shiny," and wander off in another direction towards whatever just caught their eye.
I know this about them and I've accepted it.
Neither of my children are what anyone would call unruly. Parenting in my single mom household falls within a fairly structured discipline system, but that does not change the fact that my kids have the attention span of a goldfish.
It's something I'm working on with them but we aren't there yet, though I can honestly say that it's not for lack of effort on my part.
Last year, I found myself standing in an airport with both kids and a pile of luggage. While I was getting a tag for the stroller so it could be checked at the gate, my 2-year-old son sat quietly in a chair not more than a few feet away from me.
He had a little cup of snacks and was munching away, watching people walk past him. If I could have forced my eyes to look in two different directions I would have, but obviously that's not possible. Instead, I gave myself whiplash as I repeatedly turned my head from my children to the line in front of me.
I looked up – two kids were eating. I looked down –the roller suitcase tipped over. I picked it up, looked at the kids, and wait . . . where was my two-year-old?!
In less than 15 seconds, he had climbed over the back of the seat and was running full-sprint through the airport. In about 3 seconds flat, I had flung my 5-year-old over my shoulder, abandoned the luggage despite the overhead recording warning all passengers not to leave their luggage unattended, and was actively in pursuit of my fleeing toddler.
Thankfully, I didn't lose sight of him, which meant I had a clear view as my son slipped right behind a gate attendant and ran onto a plane heading to Kansas.
I then got into an argument with the gate attendant that yes, there was in fact a child on that plane unattended, and yes, he did belong to me.
She honestly did not believe he had managed to get past her and I was freaking out that my toddler might be heading to Kansas. It all happened so fast. While I wish I could say that was the only time something like that has happened, I won't lie to you.
I'm a single mom with two wandering children, and since holding their hands every second of our outings would be completely unrealistic, I now make them both wear child leashes when we're in crowded places.
Because while the kids may look stupid wearing a leash, at least they're safe.
While I let go of one child to attend to my other child's needs, I know they're both safe.
While I take my hands off of one to dig the map out of the bag, I know my child is safe.
And I've heard it all from well-meaning friends, an appalled aunt, and strangers who seem to be under the impression that I want their advice, so I already know what many of you think of me.
You think that I'm embarrassing my kids, not teaching them to be independent, relying on laziness instead of discipline, and my favorite, "Walking them around like dogs."
Do you know why we put dogs on leashes? Because they run away. My kids: they run away, too.
When I really think about it, I'm not sure why more people don't leash their kids. It's not uncommon to hear the lost child announcement playing over the intercom in a crowded establishment and more than once I've seen sheer terror plastered across the face of a mom looking for her missing child at the zoo.
One time at a pumpkin farm, I watched as a woman thrust her infant into the arms of a cashier at a food stand and then began to scream incoherently. It wasn't until I watched her run to the left, then to the right, and then proceed to crumple to the ground in a sobbing heap did I realize that she was missing her toddler.
As we tried to coax a physical description out of the frantic mom, she thought she saw a child that looked like her son being put into a van. She ran over, ripped the door of the van open, and pretty much manhandled her way into the van before realizing that it was not her son inside.
As strange as the whole sight was, my heart utterly broke for her and my fear for her son made me physically ill. Thankfully he was found a short while later, but it brings me back to the point of "it only takes a second," and I know with my children a second is all they need.

The Most Stunning Royal Weddings From Around the World
While many royal weddings don't garner the attention of Prince William and Kate Middleton's big day, it doesn't mean that they lack in lavishness. These couples' weddings are part of a long tradition of elaborate royal weddings around the world. In 2012, Luxembourg treated its Crown Prince Guillaume to an extravagant affair when he married Belgian Countess Stéphanie de Lannoy. The celebration, which reportedly cost around $650,000 and was funded by taxpayers, spanned multiple days and included a guest list packed with kings, queens, and other royals from around the world. In Brunei, Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah, the fifth daughter of Brunei's sultan, married Pengiran Haji Muhammad Ruzaini at her father's 1,700-room palace in front of 3,000 guests. A state dinner followed, and Queen Elizabeth II even sent her best wishes.
These royals make up some of the lesser-known but just as regal royals of the world. And just like the Brits, they know how to throw opulent weddings for members of their families. From the wedding for the future emperor of Japan in 1924 to Grace Kelly's Monaco spectacular in 1956 to Will and Kate's big day on April 29, 2011, here is a guide to the world's royal weddings over the years.
Your Guide to Spring's Biggest Blockbusters
In our eyes, Spring begins with the first big movie release in March. Logan has unleashed the wave of blockbusters, and they won't stop coming until Summer's end. We don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, so let's just focus on the biggest releases of March, April, and May. What's on the horizon? Take a look for yourself!
People Are Obsessed With How Much This Baby Girl Looks Like Ed Sheeran
Ever since Ed Sheeran gained fame in 2011 with his debut album +, a long string of lookalikes of the British singer-songwriter have come forward. Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint is one of them, as well as the young kid Ed cast in his "Castle on the Hill" music video, and another "twin" he met back in November 2012. All of them can take a seat, however, because Ed's true doppelgänger has revealed herself: 2-year-old Isla Walton.
Why does this baby look more like Ed Sheeran than Ed Sheeran does? http://pic.twitter.com/3I50d7yQlh
- Tom Davies 🌐 (@1TD) March 17, 2017
On March 17, Twitter user Tom Davies shared a photo of Isla, who is British like Ed, which went viral almost immediately (for obvious reasons). In an interview with The Sun, Isla's aunt, Stacey Walton, said that not only does her niece share a resemblance to the singer, but she's also a big fan of his music. "Everyone comments saying how she's a mini Ed, and I call her baby Sheeran," she said. "She loves his music, tries to sing along to the words and have a dance."
Isla's mom Zoe Walton, also found herself shocked by her daughter's instant fame, telling E! News "I can't believe how viral it has gone." Isla, who turns three in May, has yet to hear from Ed, but her mom has her fingers crossed that it will happen "hopefully one day." We thought no one would ever be able to top Baby Danny DeVito, but boy were we wrong.
Our Rainbow-Loving Hearts Are Gushing Over These Colorful, Sugary Churros
Let's be real for a second: churros are already pretty darn perfect in their most basic state. What's not to love about a tube of golden, fried dough slathered in cinnamon and sugar, am I right? But it looks like these tasty pastries just got a colorful, Instagram-ready upgrade, thanks to one sweets shop in California. The Loop specializes in handcrafted churros, offering its one-of-a-kind treats either dipped (in sauces like dulce de leche and Nutella), glazed (with toppings like chocolate or matcha crunch), or chilled (in soft-serve ice cream with other tantalizing toppings mixed in). Are you drooling yet?
Its latest crave-worthy creation is the Crystal Rainbow Churro Loop, a vibrant churro covered in rainbow sugar and served in vanilla soft serve with your choice of topping (like caramel popcorn, marshmallows, or Fruity Pebbles). Like, whoa. When The Loop started serving this delectable limited-edition goody, visitors couldn't help but share photos of their churros on social media because, well, just look at them!
How to Hack the Secret Menu at Chick-fil-A
I've been a Chick-fil-A (CFA) fan for years. Growing up, it was a staple after soccer games and it got me through finals in college at the University of Arizona. Colleagues at work even joke with me about my love for CFA. It's pretty much a weekly staple. Last month I had the chance to visit the Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta and got a full inside scoop at the place where you "Eat Mor Chikin."
Visiting the headquarters was such a special treat. The campus is beautiful, featuring 73 wooded acres, including a gym, walking/running trails, outdoor work space, a cafe, and a massive 30,000-square-foot test kitchen. More than 1,000 employees work at the corporate headquarters. I got to hang out with the culinary and development team for a day and learn all about the history of the company, how they develop its top-secret recipes, and other fun mind-blowing facts. I even created some fun recipes using some of my favorite Chick-fil-A menu items, so stay tuned!
The Secret About the Chick-fil-A Secret Menu
Chick-fil-A may not have a secret menu, but folks can pretty much order whatever they want (within reason). An easy way to do this is via the Chick-fil-A One App where you can customize your entire order from your phone. Some of my favorites?
- Kick up the heat of a Spicy Chicken Sandwich by adding zesty buffalo sauce and pepper jack cheese.
- Add bacon and herb ranch sauce to the Chick-fil-A Deluxe for a bacon ranch sandwich.
- Get your sandwich lettuce-wrapped for a low-carb option.
- My go-to breakfast in the mornings: a Chicken Biscuit with egg white, pepper jack cheese, and, depending on my mood, Chick-fil-A sauce or strawberry jam!
- Ask for vanilla Icedream and no ice in your Dr. Pepper for a Dr. Pepper float!
How to Hack Having Chick-fil-A on Sunday
While we respect that the restaurant gives one day each week for its employees to spend time off with their families and friends, what are you supposed to do when you're craving Chick-fil-A? Just order one of its catering trays. The chicken comes cooked and chilled. Reheat in the oven at your convenience on Sunday.
How to "Bring Back" the Spicy Chicken Biscuit
When Chick-fil-A announced it was removing the popular item from its breakfast menu last year, social media went into a tizzy. Unfortunately, according to sales, the seemingly popular item wasn't that popular at all. Fortunately, if you loved the Spicy Chicken Biscuit, you can still find it at select locations, but keep in mind, you can always customize a chicken biscuit using the Chick-fil-A One App. Hack the item by adding some honey and Texas Pete sauce to each side of the biscuit to get that sweet Southern heat!
The Most Popular Sauces
Every fast food chain has a signature sauce, and Chick-fil-A is no exception. The fast food joint offers seven sauces, with the most famous being the barbecue sauce. It was replaced with a new smokehouse flavor until fans went to social and started #BringBacktheBBQ, to which Chick-fil-A obliged. Polynesian is a fan favorite as well, outnumbered only by the namesake Chick-fil-A Sauce, a combo of honey mustard, barbecue, and ranch.
Some Bizzare Combo Requests
If you thought dipping your french fries in your milkshake was weird, one Chick-fil-A employee shared that a popular request is a vanilla milkshake with a pickle juice floater. I'm curious if those customers are pregnant!
Guacamole, Cheese Sauce, Orange Dream Milkshakes, and More
Yes, you can find all of those and more optional unique menu items across the country. Guacamole is an optional item on the West Coast, and cheese sauce is an optional item in the Northeast. But there are also stores across the country that serve specialty items like orange dream milkshakes and even baked potatoes!
The Lemonade Is Legit
Like Beyoncé's Lemonade, Chick-fil-A's lemonade is made with water, sugar, and fresh lemons! That's it. I pick up a couple gallons of the lemonade every week during the Summer, as it's incredibly delicious. Freshly squeezed by hand and made from scratch daily in each restaurant, it's a staple at Chick-fil-A. Did you know Chick-fil-A is the largest purchaser of Sunkist lemons? It squeezes over 250 million lemons a year! In addition to the Frosted Lemonade (hand-spun vanilla Icedream with lemonade), Chick-fil-A recently added Frosted Strawberry Lemonade, which adds strawberry puree to the original recipe, giving it a sweet, seasonal twist for Spring.
How to Score Free Chick-fil-A For a Year
Anytime a new Chick-fil-A restaurant opens, the company celebrates with a signature First 100 event. Local residents from around the community are invited to camp out, and the first 100 customers are awarded free Chick-fil-A meals for a year!
