The Grungy "Brow Carving" Trend Takes Instagram Brows to the Next Level

Mario Dedivanovic, celebrity makeup artist and founding member of Kim Kardashian's glam team, definitively decided that the "Instagram brow" is out. You know the one we mean: severe, boxy arches with ombré tails and a generous application of lighter concealer to highlight around the brow. However, a new take on that old, less-than-flattering style has Instagram makeup artists inspired and us intrigued.

Writers at Allure discovered brow carving, an eye-catching new arch trend that was created by Austin, TX-based makeup artist Alexa Link. Where the edge of that harsh highlight would be on an Instagram brow, Link has created an unorthodox sculpting effect using meticulously blended shadows and liners. The overall look is haute Halloween meets editorial glam.

Of course, a makeup trend this captivating has earned Link some copycats, with many artists transforming Link's concept into their own iterations. We can't wait to see how brow carving evolves! Keep reading to see the unusual and edgy looks.

Prepare to LOL at Ellen and Nicole Kidman Who Are Hopelessly Bad Cooks

Giada De Laurentiis appeared on Ellen to teach her and Nicole Kidman how to cook vegan artichoke arancini and focaccia with clementine and fennel, but it goes horribly wrong. Despite the Italian chef's best efforts, Ellen and Nicole Kidman could not contain their laughter and inability to follow Giada's cooking instructions. The set producer even has to tell the trio to wrap it up!

You will giggle throughout the clip, especially when it comes to the grand taste test. Ellen and Nicole Kidman do not hide their thoughts about the cold food that has probably been left out for "like five hours." On a more positive note for Giada fans, the Food Network star told Ellen that she is planning to open up a new restaurant at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas and possibly something on the East Coast.

It Has Come to This: Your Nipple Color Is Your Perfect Lip Shade, Apparently

It's 2017, so this headline does not faze me. Maybe in 2014 I would be surprised to hear that the color of your nipple is a great hack for finding your perfect lip shade, but not today. We've seen it all: the Kylie Jenner shot glass challenge, using household items like a heel to contour, and one ballsy makeup-lover using her boyfriend's testicles to apply foundation. (Which I have so many concerns about. I don't want to smell like balls, thanks.)

Unlike these other internet trends, though, this one actually seems useful to me. I sit here, glancing at my nipple at the office while my co-workers look at me with genuine concern. Am I inspecting a mole? Did I drop a piece of food down my top? Did I just get pierced? No, my curious colleagues, I'm simply trying to decide if my nipple color is more of a Pillow Talk or an Angel.

This discussion began after someone tweeted a screenshot of an episode of The Doctors in which they discussed whether or not your nipple is your best lip shade. It was also reported that the color of your top lip is also the same shade as your nipple. This is enlightening, because I was of the opinion my bottom lip was also the shade of my top lip - apparently not!

The internet obviously felt some way about this.

This paints a whole new picture when it comes to color matching. If I were in the market to make a beauty line, I'd create a slew of lip liners with names like "Are-hola," a bronzy-tan shade, "The Booby Trap," a pinky-beige, and "Simply the Breast," a deep mahogany.

Also, for what it's worth, may I kindly suggest you do not bust out your nips for the employees (and the free world) at Sephora? They have to deal with enough. No pictures either. If you must, blow up a photo of your nipple so you can only see the shade and it is does not look recognizable as your actual areola.

And in case you're wondering, turns out Pillow Talk is in fact my ideal shade. Thanks, Charlotte Tilbury!

The Good and the Bad of Alien: Covenant’s Attempt at LGBT Inclusion

If you were holding your breath for gays in space in 2017, you might want to hold it a bit longer. Previously, there had been murmurs of the inclusion of a gay couple in Alien: Covenant, which hits theaters this month. People first took notice when the couple in question appeared in a prologue sequence back in February. This could have been a big deal, right?!

Having seen the film, I can tell you the amount of gayness therein is negligible, so much so that you might even miss it if you don't know where to look. You might say this is a pretty small step for LGBTQ man, and that it's assuredly not a giant leap for LGBTQ mankind. And yet, while the small moments in themselves may have been kind of a letdown, there are some aspects of them that mark a different kind of improvement.

Before we really dig into Alien: Covenant's own "exclusively gay moment," I want to begin with the bottom line: the LGBTQ community desperately needs more representation in TV and film. There are approximately 9 million people who identify as LGBTQ in the United States, yet there is a noted dearth of principle characters who openly identify in this way. Yes, we've made progress on this front; there are LGBTQ characters on TV. Emily Fields is a lesbian on Pretty Little Liars. HBO's Looking managed to shed light on what it's like to be a gay man in San Francisco. Transparent has marked remarkable progress for the transgender community, both by employing transgender actors, writers, and more behind the scenes and with the brazen insights into and portrayals of transgender issues on the show. The CW's Riverdale, though guilty of queerbaiting, does have a gay character who has a boyfriend. Even on ABC, we've seen some of the trials of navigating a relationship between two gay men on How to Get Away With Murder.

We still need gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer characters in lead roles on major networks. And we need a lot of them.

For all this inclusion, though, there are still flaws in the system. When an LGBTQ-identifying character appears in the cast of a show, their storylines are often the first to be pushed aside and forgotten. Riverdale's Kevin and Pretty Little Liars' Emily are prime examples of LGBTQ characters whose relationships (or, in Kevin's case, entire storylines) disappear into the background. They tend to get less screen time than their castmates. Some of the biggest LGBTQ shows are on smaller or premium networks; we still need more and more of that primetime coverage. We still need gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer characters in lead roles on major networks. And we need a lot of them.

When it comes to films, it seems we have an even longer way to go. You can see glimmers of progress, sure. After all, Moonlight is the story of a gay black man growing up and coming to terms with his sexuality in Miami, and it won best picture at the Oscars this year. That's a remarkable, incredible, historic win. The problem is that it took until 2017 to carve out this space in history for the LGBTQ community. When it comes to more commercialized films, that's where everything turns into a real hot mess.

The most recent disaster came from Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast. In the months leading up to the film, Disney revealed that LeFou would be the first openly gay Disney character ever, and that we would get an "exclusively gay moment" before the end of the film. In reality, LeFou never openly expresses his sexuality at all, and the film leans heavily on implication and stereotypes rather than delivering on its promise. And then there was the Power Rangers reboot, where we heard tell of a lesbian yellow ranger, only for the topic to come up one time, in one scene, for one small moment.

Admittedly, Alien: Covenant's gay inclusion is even smaller. The 15-person crew actually contains a gay couple, Lope and Hallett (Demián Bichir and Nathaniel Dean). In a very early and stressful sequence, one of the alien creatures terrorizes the crew and wipes out a good half-dozen of them. Among the initial casualties is Hallett. We catch a glimpse of Hallett's lifeless body before we pan up to a visibly upset Lope. And that's about it. It's not unfair to call this entirely insignificant. Sure, some other gay moments may have been added in and cut later, but it doesn't matter. We got what we got. In an ideal situation, we would have had this couple's sexuality much more explicitly demonstrated, even beyond their PDA in the prologue. After all, other heterosexual couples in the film make a pretty big show of their heterosexual love. Which is totally fine, by the way, but couldn't we hope to see the same from two gay men?

What I did appreciate, though, was that the cast and filmmakers didn't sensationalize the inclusion. It's kind of nice to have a subtler nod as opposed to like, "Hey, look at this gay character who just lost his gay husband. Did we mention he's gay?!" It's true, we want our LGBTQ characters to be more than just LGBTQ. We don't want this trait to define them; we want it to be just one aspect of the complex and beautiful people they are. In this sense, Alien: Covenant kind of succeeds. It's just that the writers needed to amplify that subtlety into something audiences might actually notice.

It's also worthwhile to give credit to the cast and crew for not blowing the moment out of proportion. Sure, there may have been press about the inclusion of the character, but there was no huge explosive, viral news item in which those involved all seemed to be high-fiving and patting themselves on the back. This film doesn't do a lot for the LGBTQ community. I just find it refreshing that they didn't act like it does, either.

What Should You Do If Your Flight Is Canceled?

Recently, about 30 minutes before my flight to Seattle was supposed to board, the status went from "On Time" to "Canceled." At first it seemed like the least funny joke I'd ever been told, but after waiting in line for 30 minutes JUST to have the airline employee tell everyone that had been waiting that it was for "first class and priority passengers" only (thanks for the heads up . . . ?), I found myself scrambling all the way back toward the airline check-in, back outside of security, at the departures drop-off zone, where a line of frustrated travelers already wrapped around the corner. Awesome.

What the hell are you supposed to do when this happens? I could see other flights to my destination being booked by the airline employees, and any hopes of getting to my destination that night evaporated as more and more planes filled with passengers from our flight. Hindsight: it's most definitely 20/20. So, what are the steps you should take the minute you find out the airline has canceled your flight?

1. Get on the phone with the airline immediately.

While your first inclination may be to wait it out in line with the 150+ other passengers doing the same thing you are, you should get in line to speak with someone at the airport who works for the airline, but while you are waiting you should call the airline and try to rearrange your flight or figure out your refund via a customer service member.

2. Know the airline's policy for canceled flights.

Do your research. Trust me. I know that no one wants to actually read all the fine print at the bottom, but you can use that fine print to your benefit when and if your flight is canceled by the airline.

3. Check the next flight times the airline has to your destination.

Find out ASAP online what time the next flights are with the airline you're already on. If they work for you, then try to get on that flight. But remember, there are many, many other people doing the same exact thing so this can be tough.

4. Do not take no for an answer.

You may encounter airline employees who don't fully know the airline policy, and it's possible they may feed you the wrong information. Bottom line: if your flight is canceled (and you didn't do the canceling), the airline should be helping you resolve the situation.

5. Take note of what other people are doing.

I got on the phone with one airline employee who tried to tell me that the only thing they could do for me was give me credit for the amount that my tickets cost. Airline policies differ, so for some this may be the case. However, in my case, I was watching other people ahead of me in line have airline employees coordinate rebooking their flights to our destination with other airlines at no charge. I watched another person in line with me get a full refund for the flight from the airline PLUS compensation for their Uber to the airport - all over the phone.

Yet the customer service employee I happened to speak with tried to tell me they would not only NOT refund my money to the credit card I paid for the tickets with, but that I would only get airline credit. I politely said goodbye, hung up, immediately called the same line back, and spoke with another customer service employee who, without hesitation, gave me a full refund for my flight.

6. Be firm but friendly.

The airline employee you are dealing with did not cause your flight to be canceled, so don't forget that while the situation is undeniable extremely frustrating, taking out your frustrations on the middle person will only make getting what you want that much more difficult. In my experience, being flexible, agreeable, and understanding, and most of all patient will get you a lot further than making a scene.

7. Get on the phone with another airline to book your flight, ASAP.

If you absolutely MUST get to your destination as soon as possible and waiting overnight is not an option, then get on the line with other airlines. Unless you were able to get to the front of the line of people waiting to rebook their flights, chances are the seats on other flights through different airlines to the same destination will be going like hot cakes. If you're able to (or desperate to get where you're going at any cost!), book a whole new flight with a different airline first to make sure that the next available flights don't fill up. Then follow up with your original airline about compensation/refunding.

In theory, the airline who canceled will hopefully give you a refund or compensation that you can then use toward the cost of rebooking a new flight. But, again, this depends on the airline policy - which is why I'll reiterate: read the fine print when you book your flight, otherwise you may be out hundreds of dollars just to get to where you need to be.

8. Avoid checking bags when you fly.

Sometimes you really do have to check a bag, especially for longer trips. But whenever possible, skip checking a bag and pack light instead. If you've already checked your luggage and your flight is canceled, you first have to go through the entire process of retrieving your bags before you can even then deal with switching flights and/or airlines.

9. When all else fails, book a hotel.

If it looks like you simply aren't going to be able to get on the next flight and you're stuck at the airport overnight, try seeing if the airline will compensate you for a night at a hotel. Many airlines will offer vouchers and/or transportation to/from the airport. Another time I had a flight cancellation, the airline got me a ride to the hotel, comped my room, and gave me meal vouchers to use at the airport for dinner and breakfast between my next flight (which they arranged for me).

Teacher's Note Giving Extra Homework Is Going Viral For All the Right Reasons

Although we saw some teachers move toward "no homework" policies this year (as well as parents who decided for themselves that their kids are "done" with homework), one head teacher in England sent a note home giving his students extra homework - right before a testing period, no less. Eliza Lawson, whose son Josh is in year six at Marden Bridge Middle School in the UK, posted a photo of the note to Facebook that's going viral for all the right reasons.

"Dear Pupil," starts Mr. Newport's note to his 10- and 11-year-old students. "You have done brilliantly in the build up to the SATs, well done. We have some extra homework for you! Please read below and see how many of these activities you can tick off."

However, rather than give actual homework to his likely stressed students on top of their impending statutory exams, he "assigned" them a list of fun weekend activities to complete in order to help them unwind and decompress before their tests, such as scooter riding and laughing "until your tummy hurts."

The caring teacher signed off his note by reminding his pupils that if they feel they absolutely have to study, he wanted them to revise for no more than an hour total over the course of the weekend. "Remember," he wrote. "Mr. Newport is in charge of worrying - you don't need to. You are amazing and I could not be more proud of you."

The note, which was sent home and posted to social media by Lawson on May 5, is being shared all over Facebook to spread the message that there are teachers out there who go above and beyond for their students. Lawson wrote: "Let's all share this and show Marden Bridge and Mr. Newport how much we value teachers that see our children as growing people, not numbers on a page!"

Channing Tatum's Letter to His Daughter Is Exactly What Women Need to Hear Right Now

Channing and Jenna Dewan Tatum always have the sweetest things to say about each other, but there's another special lady that holds a place in the Magic Mike hunk's heart: his 3-year-old daughter, Everly. The 37-year-old actor recently penned an open letter for his baby girl in Cosmopolitan, thinking about the young woman she'll become one day. "I don't want her looking to the outside world for answers," he wrote. "My highest hope for her is just that she has the fearlessness to always be her authentic self, no matter what she thinks men want her to be."

He also recalled the first time he met Jenna, saying, "I knew our connection was really powerful, but I wasn't sure what our relationship was going to be." Channing explained how he felt "this incredible rush" when Jenna opened up to him, and ended his letter with a note about breaking gender stereotypes. "We live in a society that has trained men and women to play certain kinds of roles for a long time, and the beauty of this amazing moment we're living in is that we're finally starting to break free from those roles." American Idol Is Returning! Here's What We Know About ABC's Revival

You didn't think American Idol would just die a natural death and fade into memory, would you? Think again. After its final fifteenth season aired last year, the mother of all singing competitions is making a comeback. While we don't know when it will be back, we do know where we can watch it; ABC has bought all rights to the singing show. "American Idol on ABC . . . that has a nice ring to it," said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney-ABC. "Idol is an entertainment icon, and now it will air where it belongs, in ABC's lineup of addictive fan favorites alongside Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor. America, get ready for the return of a bigger, bolder and better-than-ever Idol."

There's no word yet on who the judges will be, but it's highly likely they'll need to find a new host, now that Ryan Seacrest is Kelly Ripa's full-time cohost on Live. Might we suggest Brian Dunkleman? We'll keep you updated as news comes in!

Jennifer Aniston's Summer Shoe Lineup Is Beyond Practical

For the past few years, we've noticed something about Jennifer Aniston's Summer style: those shoes. In fact, her lineup of practical pairs doesn't stand out at all; it's neutral and functional, proper for an on-the-go lifestyle. That doesn't mean Jen doesn't keep strappy stilettos on hand for date night - they're just simple and presumably comfortable, considering how often she wears them while out with her husband, Justin Theroux.

From fancier types to low-top sneakers and the in-between - which for Jen is a Burberry ankle-wrap wedge - we consider her shoe closet to be stocked full of essentials. Scroll for a look at the designs Jen always keeps on rotation through the warmer months, then fill in the gaps in your own wardrobe by shopping her picks.

You Won't Even Notice Alex Rodriguez, Because Your Eyes Will Be on J Lo's Coat

PSA: Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez are for once, not wearing matching outfits! Though we've enjoyed their coordinating looks, we're happy to see them complement each other without wearing the same color palette.

The couple was spotted leaving a restaurant in New York City in completely opposite looks. Jennifer was wearing head-to-toe beige, while Alex wore a blue dress shirt, black jacket and pants with white sneakers.

But let's get to what's important: J Lo's jacket! The Valentino trench features bright floral embroidery with pink-feathered birds moving across it. It looks like a majestic garden was painted on her, and we love it. What we don't love is the price tag. The jacket retails for $7,900, but it's currently on sale for $1,979 - a far cry from the $55 accessory J Lo was sporting this week. Keep scrolling to see more photos of her amazing look and find a few links to shop a jacket of your own.

A New Study Finally Determined What Causes Gray Hair - and No, It's Not Stress

Contrary to popular belief, gray hair doesn't grow out of stressful situations or having to parent teenagers. A new study conducted by the by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center actually determined the two proteins essential to hair growth and pigmentation. The best part? Their findings were all an accident.

Published in Genes & Development, the study was meant to examine certain kinds of tumors using mice. What they ended up finding were the causes of gray hair and baldness. Here's the breakdown: KROX20 is a protein that triggers skin cells to become hair shafts. The cumbersomely named protein also triggers cells to product a stem cell factor protein, or SCF. The loss of KROX20 leads to baldness, while the loss of the SCF gene leads to gray hair.

While the researchers did not determine what might cause the loss of those two proteins apart from just genetics, they do have hope for future solutions. In a press statement, Dr. Lu Le said, "With this knowledge, we hope in the future to create a topical compound or to safely deliver the necessary gene to hair follicles to correct these cosmetic problems."

Mom's Message After Overhearing a Parent at Chick-Fil-A Talk About Her Boy With Disabilities

After a potentially painful and uncomfortable encounter, Leah Carroll has a message to the mom-of-three who was at Chick-fil-A with her three kids. Leah wants this fellow parent to know that she overheard the questions, saw the stares, and was blown away by her response.

"I sensed your panic when your 5-year-old son pointed at my son in his wheelchair and shouted, 'Mom look at THAT boy!'' Leah shared on Love What Matters Facebook page. "You leaned forward and quietly told him and his 3-year-old brother that we don't say things like that and they shouldn't point or stare."

Leah waited because she knew in most cases, telling a child not to stare or question her child's differences doesn't work because young, curious minds have questions that they want answered. "When you realized your whispers weren't working I saw the panic disappear and you took a deep breath and took a step of courage," she wrote. "You brought your boys over to Malachi and said 'I bet he would like to know your names!'"

Leah explained that as they said their names to Malachi, her child started grinning and chatting with the kids and that this interaction was more important than this amazing mom could've realized.

The joy on his face brought tears to my eyes- he loves kids his age but so many are fearful to come and speak to him. Your boys continued to ask questions about his foot braces, his wheelchair, why his legs don't work, why he holds his mouth open like that.

You took the time to educate your sons in that moment and help them understand that different is okay. Different is not something to fear. And that it was okay to ask questions! Thank you for giving my son a chance to meet your kids.

Thank you for being the type of mom who educates your children instead of frantically trying to silence them. Special needs moms have to develop tough skin - we get used to stares, comments, and whispers. Please know it takes a lot to offend us, particularly when the comments are coming from young children. Give your kids the same grace we give them and use the opportunity to teach them about differences.

So Chick-Fil-A mom, thank you for raising your children to embrace children like Malachi. And thank you for giving my son something to smile about."

How Nikki Bella's Life Has Changed Since Getting Engaged to John Cena

Nikki Bella is looking forward to walking down the aisle with John Cena. The WWE wrestler got engaged to her longtime love last month, and she recently told E! News how her life has changed since becoming engaged. "It does feel different because I guess now there's a sense of security," she said. "I feel like I have a bigger smile and I'm like, 'Yeah I'm taken.'" Despite John's previous protests against marriage, Nikki revealed, "He told me the other day, 'You know Nicole, I never thought like I would have done this again, but I know I'm gonna be with you forever.'"

Nikki also touched on their relationship, saying, "We're best friends. We literally love to just hang out together and have drinks or go swimming." As far as the wedding goes, Nikki said she's going for "classic bride . . . black-tie wedding," adding, "I'm just happy to be marrying my best friend." Could these two be any cuter?

Hey, Maybe Gender-Neutral Awards Aren't Such a Stellar Idea After All

Image Source: Getty / Jeff Kravitz

At Sunday night's MTV Movie and TV Awards, Emma Watson made history. The actress earned the first ever genderless acting award for her portrayal of Belle in Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast. As Watson noted in her acceptance speech, it's a pretty remarkable thing to be rewarded for your talent in such a magnificent way. Watson also gave credit to nonbinary actor Asia Kate Dillon, who was a driving force behind the award. Now, I don't want to diminish MTV's decision to eliminate gender from their award show. I don't want to rag on Emma Watson for celebrating that, either. I also don't want to silence the experience of Dillon, who felt conflicted about whether to submit themselves for a male or female acting category for an Emmy nomination. And yet, in spite of all these hesitations, I want to explain why I think nongendered awards are a great idea that could very easily backfire.

Off screen, there are five working men to every one working woman in Hollywood.

There are two reasons a system like this just might not work in the Hollywood landscape. The first is the obvious gender disparity that exists in the industry today, which proves that women are still being marginalized at nearly every level. According to a stellar infographic of compiled data from the New York Film Academy, we have a long way to go before we achieve any sense of equality in the industry, award shows included. When it comes to onscreen portrayals of women, only 30 percent of speaking characters are female. Only 10 percent of movies feature a balanced cast of both genders; the average ratio of men to women exceeds two to one. What about paychecks? When you add up all the money made by the top 10 actors and actresses on Forbes's annual "highest paid" list, the men made $465 million to women's $181 million.

And behind the scenes? What about all the directors, writers, executive producers, editors, and cinematographers? Off screen, there are five working men to every one working woman in Hollywood. When it comes to directors in this particular data, only nine percent were women. The trend continues: 15 percent were writers, 17 percent were executive producers, 20 percent were editors, and two percent were cinematographers. In every case, on every level, the show is run by men. And now we arrive at award shows.

Image Source: Getty / Jason LaVeris

Let's look at some statistics from the 2017 Oscars, courtesy of the Women's Media Center. In all the nonacting categories, only 20 percent of the nominees were women. Not a single woman was nominated for cinematography, directing, or original screenplay, and only one woman was nominated in the categories for film editing and adapted screenplay. Only four female directors have ever been nominated for an Oscar. Only one of these women won: Kathryn Bigelow earned a directing Oscar in 2010 for The Hurt Locker, meaning it took more than 80 years for a woman to win the award. And what about the voters? For the past decade, the percentage of male voters has hovered around 75 percent. We must also note that these statistics apply only to cisgender men and women. When you factor in transgender individuals and gender identity, it's only more bleak.

In 2015, GLAAD released its own data concerning LGBTQ representation in film. In more than 100 films in the previous year, only 28 had LGBTQ-identifying characters, and there wasn't a single transgender character. Even when we do see transgender stories in Hollywood, they're almost exclusively played by cisgender actors and actresses. Felicity Huffman played Bree in Transamerica, Jared Leto played Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club, Eddie Redmayne played Lili in The Danish Girl, and the list goes on. Eliminating gender may foster comfort when it comes to an individual's identity, but it further slims the odds of a transgender person earning a nomination and a win.

If we eliminated gender in a major award show like the Oscars, we'd be losing two major categories and 10 potential slots for nominees. Considering the above data, with just five slots each for acting in a leading and supporting role respectively, how often would a woman or nonbinary person be able to take home the Oscar? How often would a woman or nonbinary person have the honor of getting a nomination?

Having a genderless award is a great idea, but how would we moderate it? Would we still have to ensure that a certain number of women and a certain number of men got slots? And if so, does that even solve the issue Asia Kate Dillon faced in the first place? Is that eliminating gender, or just presenting it in a different way? The industry must first catch up to the modern era, in every single way. Hollywood needs to take great strides to level the playing field for creatives of all genders and gender identities. Stripping gender from an award show is the very last step. If we don't do everything to ensure equal footing up to that point, we're simply reinforcing inequality rather than combating it.

We must keep honoring women. We must prevent the patriarchy from winning at every junction.

I believe it's more progressive to keep gender when it comes to award shows. With so much inequality everywhere else, this is one surefire way to ensure that women are getting some of the recognition they deserve. And that's the bottom line: we must keep honoring women. We must prevent the patriarchy from winning at every junction. In a world where Casey Affleck can win an Oscar in spite of sexual assault allegations and Mel Gibson can still win a nomination after that racist rant in 2010, it's clear we still need to protect and spotlight women wherever we can - including in a best actress category.

5 Moments From Sally Yates's Senate Testimony That Prove Just How Badass She Is

Sally Yates deserves an award for how impressively she held her composure against an onslaught of mansplaining and patronizing during her Senate confirmation hearing. Yates, who was acting attorney general before she was fired for failing to enforce President Donald Trump's travel ban, testified before the Senate on May 8. Yates was questioned by the committee about her involvement in the Justice Department's investigation of Trump's former national security adviser, General Michael Flynn. Yates had alerted the White House of Flynn's propensity to be blackmailed by Russia given his close relationship with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

In recent weeks, Trump's administration has attempted to shift the blame of Flynn's high security clearance and access to former President Barack Obama. However, Yates's testimony revealed that the Justice Department had, in fact, warned the incoming administration of Flynn's ties to Russia. A separate source told NBC News that Obama also warned the incoming president that Flynn was not a wise hire.

At the end of January, when Yates described Trump's attempted travel ban as unconstitutional, she was lauded by many as a hero for standing up to the administration. During her Senate testimony, Yates proved once again that not all heroes wear capes. Ahead are some of Yates's shining moments.

1. When she defended her decision to not enforce President Trump's travel ban.

2. When she schooled Ted Cruz in constitutional law.

3. When she got blunt about then-National Security Adviser Mike Flynn's dishonesty with the White House.

4. When she clarified Sean Spicer's mischaracterization of the Justice Department's assessment of General Flynn's ties to Russia.

5. When she made a suggestion about how to prevent election hacking in the future.

We have to hand it to Yates for remaining composed despite encountering such blatant condescension and mansplaining during questioning; her interaction with Senator John Kennedy best summarizes her treatment.

It’s No Surprise People Are Sharing a Video of Emmanuel Macron Subtly Dismissing Trump

Every day, the future of how the US will continue to fight climate change gets even more weary. It makes sense, then, why an older video of now-French-president-elect Emmanuel Macron is going viral again. In the video, Macron promises that France will keep its climate change initiatives and invites any US scientists who aren't welcome under the Trump administration to come to France instead.

The video, posted to Facebook on Feb. 9, shows Macron speaking in English to US scientists. He tells viewers he has two messages: the first is to French and European researchers, telling them he will preserve the budget to fight climate change to meet COP21 goals. His second message goes out to American scientists as Macron says, "Please come to France, you are welcome. It's your nation; we like innovation. We want innovative people. We want people working on climate change, energy, renewables, and new technologies." You can watch it ahead.

I have a message for you guys.

Posted by Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, February 9, 2017

The video has more than 71,000 shares, 5,000 comments, and 5.1 million views. People are once again sharing it on social media since Macron has won. Welcome to the global fight against climate change, Macron - and be careful of Trump's handshakes.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Who the Heck Is Adam?!

Warning: spoilers below.

Out of all five end credits sequences in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, only one really matters. It's the third scene, and it features a revenge-bent Ayesha (Elizabeth Debecki) introducing a new creation. Ayesha is the high priestess of a genetically ideal race of aliens known as the Sovereign, and all their members are scientifically engineered, not born. Ayesha is wildly frustrated, as the Guardians have outsmarted them for the second time. She reveals a giant pod, telling another member of the Sovereign that this superalien is incredibly strong. "I think I shall call him Adam," she declares.

This new character is Adam Warlock, a beloved hero in the Marvel world. In the books, his origin story is a bit different; he's created by a group of scientists called the Beehive, and for a long time, he was simply known as "Him." His powers include strength, speed, stamina, and extreme healing, but his signature move is encasing himself in a cocoon (which we see in the credits sequence) at a moment's notice. He is powerful on his own, but he can also harness the power of the Infinity Stones (known as the Infinity Gems in the books) to increase his energy.

Though Ayesha is clearly creating him to combat the Guardians, Adam is actually their ally in the books. He fights alongside them and is one of Thanos's most notable enemies. While Adam is good, he has an evil alter ego named Magus.

During interviews for Vol. 2, director James Gunn told SlashFilm that Adam will not appear in Infinity War, the next Avengers movie. "But he will be a part of the future Marvel cosmic universe and a pretty important part of that." Hmmm.

So basically, he's Kind of a Big Deal.

1 Woman Gave Up Washing Her Face For 6 Months - and Her Skin Transformation Is Astounding

We've been using the magical potion that is micellar water for a few years now, but thanks to one Redditor, we now know just how magical the stuff is. Reddit user mollsballsss posted to the SkincareAddiction subreddit to share before and after photos of her skin, showing how it's been transformed by using exclusively micellar water to cleanse her face.

"In the past year, I found this subreddit and have tried to follow some of the recommendations," she said. She explained that she's been on Accutane twice, which has lead to some seriously dry skin. "In one post, someone mentioned not washing his/her face, and for some reason, that jumped out at me to try." She added, "I haven't put facial soap on my face for six months and it has made a HUGE difference."

The Redditor shared her full skin care regimen, which is extremely simple and consists of just SPF in the morning and moisturizer at night, rinsing her face with a splash of lukewarm water and Garnier Micellar Water ($9).

While some may be horrified by the distinct lack of cleanser in this routine, micellar water is actually an excellent substitute for face wash. In a past interview about this liquid miracle, dermatologist Dr. Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas told POPSUGAR it contains small molecules called micelles, which are "nano-sized, single-layer fatty bubbles." Dr. Alexiades-Armenakas explained, "They are able to absorb other fats such as sebum and oils inside."

It's similar to using a cleansing oil: lipids bind to other lipids (in this case, micelles and sebum) to leave your complexion clean. Additionally, most micellar waters do not contain surfactants. These are cleansing agents that often include sulfates, which can aggressively strip the skin. So, you're replacing what could be harsh, drying soap with a gentle, soap-free cleanse. Even better, you don't need to rinse anything away - just add a few drops of micellar water to a tissue, wipe your face, and then you're done.

While replacing your face wash with micellar water might not be the best thing for your complexion (every face is different!), mollsballsss's results are inspiring enough to give this skin care switch-up a try.

Orange Is the New Black: The Ladies of Litchfield Fight Back in the Season 5 Trailer

Orange Is the New Black is set to return on June 9, and season five looks intense. Netflix just released the first official trailer, and this time, the ladies of Litchfield are fighting back against the system. As Daya (Dascha Polanco) holds a gun to an officer's head in the first scene, the adrenaline is pumping as the inmates start to revolt. Since the next season will take place over just three days, we can only assume things will escalate from there. Is it June 9 yet?

Charlie Hunnam, Forever Badass, Gets Candid About Being Picked On as a Kid

Charlie Hunnam may be known for playing badass characters (cough, Jax Teller, King Arthur, cough), but back in the day, he was actually picked on as a child. In a recent interview with The Red Bulletin, the actor opened up about getting into his leading role in King Arthur and the traumas he suffered as a child. "I got into a lot of fights, losing some and getting severely beaten a few times," he said. "When that happens to you, you just feel like, 'I'm going to do everything in my power to never be in a situation like this again.' Hence you go out and learn how to fight." He explained that he still does martial arts, but he realized at one point that he started to carry that tough attitude into every room. "You realize you've become a slave to the thing you're afraid of," he said. "In a lot of ways, I started channeling my father."

Charlie's father was a "formidable guy," he said, adding, "What I did was play a lot of really hard characters. I felt that I exorcised those fears by being a macho dude on screen." Later, that feeling bled into his real life. "It's not that I was a bully, but I identified with having the respect of the men in any circle I was a part of," he said. "Now I realize that's just a bunch of nonsense, because I know who I really am."

He's certainly shown his softer side lately, recently charming fans everywhere while talking about his heartbreak at 13 years old and the time he rescued his cat. Yep: super hot and super sweet.

8 Reasons Only Children Make Great Partners

Only children get a bad rep as being spoiled and self-centered. Personally? I just think the rest of us are so jealous on how good onlies can have it. The focus of their parents' finances, hearts, and eyes. As the parent of an only, I can see drastic differences between her upbringing and mine, as the youngest of four girls. I can't tell you how much I cherish having an only, although I would love to have stepchildren for sure. Onlies truly are resilient and bold creatures, making them in my opinion, pretty amazing partners! Here are eight reasons why only children are kick-ass amazing partners!

1. They're Independent as HELL

While it may sound contradictory to say an independent person would be great in a couple, it's not. Onlies are independent, meaning they won't crush their partners with need. They are able to survive on their own and can offer a lot in a relationship. While being "too" independent can make people distant, onlies typically have close relationships with their parents from the very beginning years of life, making these independent gems able to connect with others all while still being self-sufficient.

2. They're Creative

I spent a lot of time playing alone as a little kid because my sisters were older, but I had a neighbor down the street I could run to. With my only child, I hear the most amazing and creative "stories" playing out right in front of my eyes. Only children are creative because they have to be! If they grew up without kids to play with as much as their friends with siblings did, don't you think they had to? Plus, only children don't have "siblings" to take the heat from them when they get in trouble . . . or times are tough at home. They have to be creative to adapt or stay out of trouble. Your creative only child partner will keep things interesting and fresh. An only child as a partner is adaptive and inventive when the chips are down or up!

3. They're Success Driven

When you don't have siblings to distribute some of that parental pride, you take it upon yourself to kick ass and take names. Gold stars are an only child's favorite. Your only child partner will most likely be successful and ambitious. Their independence and creativity helps them to succeed. You'll love having a partner who is confident and focused on achieving his or her goals. It will make you want to be that much better.

4. They're Problem Solvers

Where there's a will, there's a way - that's the only child's attitude! It's not like he or she could ask big brother or sister to help or find a solution, so an only child becomes very good at solving problems for himself or herself. This makes your only child love interest an amazing partner! He or she will always try to find a way to make things work. This is probably one of the best reasons to date and marry an only child! You need someone in life who will look for solutions and not give up in defeat!

5. They're Prone to Intimacy

An only child usually develops a very special relationship with his or her parents. That bond is a close one. There's a lot of one-on-one time when you're an only child. This makes only children very good at conversation and developing those relationships, like love, that require a lot of one-on-one!

6. They're Confident, but Not Spoiled

Sure, only children don't have to share the cake with their equally hungry siblings, but this doesn't mean they expect the world on a platter. Instead, I see and know many confident only children who are confident because their parents put a lot of love, effort, and face time into these people. That means that your only child lover will want the best from you . . . while also giving the best - see No. 7.

7. They Tend to be Type A

Yes, not all only children are Type A and being Type A isn't always great, (as a Type A person I know this well) but an only child has a lot of the focus on him or her while growing up. Sort of like the oldest child, the only then strives to be great at everything. While this can create a lot of internal stress on an only, you are loving someone who is hard-working and focused. An only child is no slacker! You want someone to love for life who can carry his or her weight.

8. They're Not Needy

This sort of goes hand in hand with No. 1, but an only child grows up knowing that he or she can take care of business on one's own. Your only child lover is not going to be needy. He or she will encourage you to keep your own interests and life because he or she won't want to constantly have someone cling either!

George and Amal Clooney Lock Down a Stunning Manhattan Apartment Perfect for Their Growing Family

With residences in Studio City, CA; Lake Como, Italy; and England, it only makes sense that George and Amal Clooney were ready for a permanent place in New York City – especially now that they're expecting twins. According to Page Six, the couple have purchased a luxury apartment at One Hundred East Fifty Third Street, and it's really something special. Although the couple did not opt for the penthouse, listed for $65 million, they reportedly went for a unit in the skyscraper building, which is expected to be completed next year. The site reports that George and Amal decided this would be the perfect location to buy an apartment because of its close proximity to the United Nations for Amal, who will also be teaching at Columbia Law School. But of course, the over-the-top "hotel-like" amenities did help convince the couple.

The first two levels of the building are occupied by French chef Joël Robuchon with a gourmet marketplace and restaurant. There's a wellness facility with a Pilates and ballet room, a yoga room, a sauna and steam room, a 60-foot sunlit swimming pool, and so much more. The building has full concierge services with a "dedicated lifestyle manager, global travel agents, personal shopping, and priority event access." Each residence will have 11-foot ceilings and jaw-dropping views likely to take your breath away. Keep reading to see all the photos inside George and Amal's stunning new NYC building.

But as Chrissy always does, she responded to the body shamers in an empowering way, reminding everyone that she can do whatever she wants. Following the award show, Chrissy took to Twitter, writing, "For the record, I wear what I want, when I want. News flash it's MY body. #thankstho," seen below.

We fully support this message. Keep reading to see the gorgeous photos of Chrissy presenting with her equally as sexy costar Milo Ventimiglia, then read up on the details of Chrissy's design, including how the fabric was sourced from Jane Doe Latex to nail the perfect image.

This Mother's Day Ad Will Make You Go "Awww" For Even the Crappy Parts of Parenting

Cleaning spit-up off your one nice shirt. Changing out the diaper pail. Waking up to cries at 3 a.m. And then again at 3:44 a.m. These aren't even close to the most cherished moments of motherhood, but somehow this Similac commercial makes me nostalgic for even the most stressful, smelly, and sticky tasks. Perhaps it's the crescendoing background music, but I actually got teary at the sight of the mom trying to clip the toenails of a jittery baby – a chore I normally compare to snipping the right wire of a ticking time bomb.

It just goes to show that at its worst, being a parent is one of the best things we'll ever do, and that those first-year struggles are actually the things we'll come to miss most. OK, minus the diaper pail.

David Beckham's Role in King Arthur Is Definitely Not What You'd Expect

David Beckham is many things: an athlete, a husband, a father, but now he's adding actor to his résumé. Warner Bros. just released a clip from his upcoming film with Charlie Hunnam, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and it will definitely change the way you see him. Even though he only has a few lines in the scene, his prosthetic nose and facial scars are pretty terrifying. Seriously, he's almost unrecognizable. Watch the clip above before the movie hits theaters on May 12.

Selena Gomez's Already Wearing Fall's Most Popular Boot

With a resurgence of '80s style this season, it looks like Selena Gomez has become a fan. The star took some fashion inspiration from the decade, rocking a pair of white Stuart Weitzman slouchy boots and cuffed Monse boyfriend jeans. As she posed in front of the mirror, Selena showed off her midsection in a knotted black crop tee and wore a pair of retro sunglasses. The star was all dressed up in this casual ensemble for The Weeknd's concert. Though Selena is a '90s baby, we love this particular outfit on her because she didn't have to try hard to look cool. Re-create her outfit ahead by shopping similar pieces.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie Have Had It With Winter, Strip Down in Greece

Kit Harington (aka Jon Snow) has clearly had enough of Winter because he recently whisked girlfriend Rose Leslie away for a sunny vacation in Santorini, Greece. On Thursday, the Game of Thrones actor was spotted taking a quick dip in his hotel pool before toweling off and heading out for a day of sightseeing with Rose on a pair of ATVs. The two looked adorable in their matching helmets and sunglasses and appeared to be making the most of their time on the beautiful island.

Kit and Rose have been keeping a low profile as of late, though they did attend the Olivier Awards in London last month (the place where they made their romance red carpet official in 2015). Kit is currently busy filming BBC's new drama Gunpowder and recently wrapped up filming for Game of Thrones' seventh season (which premieres on July 17), while Rose plays the lead role in The Good Wife's spinoff, The Good Fight, so it makes sense that they'd want to take a break and spend some quality time together.
