This Mother's Day Ad Will Make You Go "Awww" For Even the Crappy Parts of Parenting
Cleaning spit-up off your one nice shirt. Changing out the diaper pail. Waking up to cries at 3 a.m. And then again at 3:44 a.m. These aren't even close to the most cherished moments of motherhood, but somehow this Similac commercial makes me nostalgic for even the most stressful, smelly, and sticky tasks. Perhaps it's the crescendoing background music, but I actually got teary at the sight of the mom trying to clip the toenails of a jittery baby – a chore I normally compare to snipping the right wire of a ticking time bomb.
It just goes to show that at its worst, being a parent is one of the best things we'll ever do, and that those first-year struggles are actually the things we'll come to miss most. OK, minus the diaper pail.
