Strong Abs Start With This 7-Minute Workout
Get the printable version of this seven-minute HIIT workout here!
When it comes to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), the pros definitely outweigh the cons. While it may feel unpleasant to push your body to go faster and harder for that short time period, the rewards are worth it: HIIT helps you blast more belly fat, save time, and burn way more calories (even after your workout is long over) than a lower-intensity workout alone. A 2013 study published in the American College of Sports Medicine's Health and Fitness Journal found that a few minutes of training at almost your max can accomplish all of this in way less time than a traditional workout. How much less? Try just seven minutes total.
The ACSM's interval workout consists of 12 exercises, which should be done at an intensity of eight on a scale of 10; each exercise lasts 30 seconds, with a 10-second rest in between. Repeat the circuit if you'd like a longer workout. Keeping the intensity up - and the rest periods short - is key, so keep reading to learn the moves and then get going! You'll need a mat and a chair or bench.
400 Pounds of Whole Foods "Chicken Salad" Recalled For Containing Tuna, Not Chicken
Whole Foods shoppers, beware. One of the grocery chain's suppliers, Willow Tree Poultry Farm, has issued an official recall for its chicken salad products due to "misbranding" and "an undeclared allergen." Approximately 440 pounds of the brand's Buffalo Style Chicken Salad have been recalled because they actually contain tuna, not chicken, according to the US Department of Agriculture. Yikes!
The affected products, which were packaged in 12.5-ounce plastic containers and produced on June 27, 2017, had the establishment number "P-8827" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These mislabeled salads were shipped to Whole Foods stores located in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, so if you live in any of those states and are a loyal consumer of this chicken salad, the USDA suggests tossing it in the garbage, especially if you have allergies.
On the plus side, the store is slightly redeeming itself for this awkward mixup by offering $5 off its prepared food offerings when you spend $25 or more from July 5 through July 11 (but you must have the Whole Foods Market phone app to redeem the offer!). We're unsure if this is directly related to the chicken salad recall, but considering how darn expensive that hot bar can get, we'll gladly take advantage of this deal!
Why You Should Take Your Kid on Vacation as Often as Possible
The author's family at Navy Pier
I'll be the first to admit that the thought of taking my 2-year-old anywhere other than the grocery store gives me a mild amount of anxiety. Even relatively simple jaunts to museums and the grandparents' houses require a ridiculous amount of planning, packing, and forethought, and quite frankly, sometimes I just don't want to be bothered. Yet, despite all the baggage that traveling with a toddler comes with (literally and figuratively), I strongly believe that people should take their kids on vacation as far away and as often as possible.
Look, I know that my son isn't really going to get a whole lot out of a trip to Disney World or Jamaica. Chances are he won't even remember it 10 years from now when he becomes a surly and brooding teenager playing with whatever gadget is trendy. It doesn't matter that it won't be a lifelong memory. While some people see it as a waste of time, I see something totally different.
He won't remember or appreciate how excited he became when he rode a roller coaster for the first time or how he jumped and squealed to see his favorite characters from TV in real life, but I will. Taking kids places, while arguably important for them, is also special to the parents. I love watching him explore and challenge himself with new surroundings while getting so joyful about something that he's crying, and these are memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, even if he will likely forget.
Telling a family not to travel until the kids are old enough to appreciate it is a hallmark of entitlement.
Telling a family not to travel until the kids are old enough to appreciate it is a hallmark of entitlement. From that perspective, only the opinions of the children matter and the parents should quietly wait for their kids to mature to the point where travel becomes more easy. Following this advice, as a parent, I would not get to travel to interesting places for at least another decade, trapped by my child's limited age.
Of course, I could always drop him off at one of his grandparents' or aunt's houses, but that puts so much pressure on the extended family. Besides the restrictive burden that forcing family members to watch my 2-year-old, I'm hesitant to do that because, surprise surprise, I like hanging out with him. As much as flying to a new country and pretending that my husband and I are carefree travelers without children back home, we're just not, and I'm ok with that.
We are currently planning a trip to Poland with my husband's family so we can see where my father-in-law grew up and are planning on bringing our son. This will likely be the only time that our family will get to travel together and my son will get to be in his heritage country with his Papa, and I am not about to not take him because of his age. He will have photos and fragmented memories as a reminder that he got to do something amazing with people who love him.
The author's son ignoring the Chicago skyline
One of the many things I've learned about children in my time as a parent is that kids might not appreciate things in the way you expect or hope but they do so in their own way. Although I might be hoping that he appreciates the grand architecture of a European capital, he might be most interested in chasing pigeons along the cobblestone street and eating a fresh Paczki from a street vendor. Just because it's not an adult's perspective on traveling doesn't make it any less valuable or real.
If I want my son to be a citizen of the world, I cannot and should not shield him from it. Of course, traveling is expensive and as much as I would like to say that we are planning on taking him anywhere and everywhere, we just can't swing it. However, the vacations that we do take will be special and meaningful to each of us in our own unique way. The cost of travel is prohibitive enough without having to factor in whether or not some stranger is judging me from the airplane terminal just because we are deciding to take our son on an adventure.
As often as I can afford it, we are taking our son on trips because everyone deserves a little vacation, even if the memories won't last a lifetime.

6 Tips and Recipes to Help You Master the Art of Latin Cooking
If you've eaten your mom's and grandma's delicious Latin cooking your whole life, you might not be used to flying solo in your own kitchen. So we asked Bren Herrera, chef and the lifestyle expert behind BrenHerrera.com - warning: once you log on, you're likely to spend a few hours drooling over food porn and Pinning your life away - to drop some knowledge for novice cooks. Here, her top six tips - plus a few beginner recipes to get you started.
1. Buy a pressure cooker.
Yes, we're talking about the casuela your grandmother used all the time. It's like a pot with a special lid that has the capability to heat and cook foods much faster - about 70 percent quicker - which is a tremendous time-saver. Who doesn't want delicious foods in less time? Herrera recommends looking for a modern six-quart cooker that has all the bells and whistles, like a safety valve. (The newest ones won't even let you open the cooker until all of the pressure is released, helping to avoid any accidents.) Trust us on this one - it's the best cooking invention ever.
2. Make your own spice blends.
Of course, we all know that Sazón Goya is a classic, easy-to-use cabinet must have. But don't be afraid to experiment and create your own blend. "If there are flavors you love together or often use for recipes, mix them up ahead of time so you'll have them on hand to toss into your favorite dishes," Herrera says. You can become a cooking bartender: an expert in the practice of cocktailing spices!
3. Invest in high-quality chef's knives.
And always keep them sharpened! Dull knives make chopping quickly tougher - plus they don't cut your foods as cleanly and put yourself at a higher risk for injury. Herrera recommends these from NewWest Knife Works. "I love their wood handles, and they're 100 percent American made," she says.
4. Don't toss burnt food.
If you slightly charred your favorite beans, don't worry. "Just dump a large raw onion or a red potato with skin into the pot. It absorbs the toxins and saves your dish. My mom taught me this flavor saver over 20 years ago, and it works like a charm every time."
5. Freeze your meats.
Cutting steak or any cut of beef can be a challenge. To make life simpler, freeze it first until it's firm, but not brick hard, Herrera says. This will make your slicing and filleting so much easier. And you'll get good practice cutting along the grain!
6. Read, read, read!
Before you even step in front of the stove, read the recipe you're going to be tackling several times. "It will help you get a handle on all of the steps and understand the language and techniques ahead of time, so you're not just trying to do it on the fly," Herrera says. And reading through the recipe several times gives you time to research unknown ingredients. You don't want to invite a special friend over for dinner and as you're cooking find out that you're missing a key ingredient!
Got that? Now, keep reading for some amazing beginner recipes to help get you started!

Your Guide on Doing a Whole30 Diet
Tens of thousands of people have taken on the Whole30 program, a monthlong clean-eating program that promises a bevy of health and emotional benefits. Developed by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig, a husband-and-wife team with backgrounds in sports nutrition, anatomy, and physical therapy, the program aims to reset your metabolism and reshape your relationship with food.
After a co-worker read the essential Whole30 text, It Starts With Food, and took on the challenge, I was interested to see what all the hype surrounding this monthlong "diet" was really about.
What Can I Eat?
On the surface, the Whole30 menu looks a lot like the Paleo diet (low carb, high protein), but think of it more as an elimination diet, except there's no 80/20 balance either - no cheating, no indulgences for one month. For one month, it completely strips away "hormone-unbalancing, gut-disrupting, inflammatory food groups," considered to be grains, sugar, dairy, alcohol, and legumes. Equally as important as eliminating these groups is not to be tempted to "junkify" their old favorites - for example, a meaty "Paleo pizza" or "coconut-flour pancakes" are off-limits. For Whole30 participants, it's not about stretching the rules of the diet to their furthest limits. It's about learning to enjoy whole, clean, simple foods that fuel your body.
Things I Learned From Sabotaging My Whole30 Plan (and Why I'll Try It Again)
Power Breakfasts For Your Whole30 Diet
The Promises
The program promises a laundry list of potential benefits, such as improved body composition, higher energy levels, better quality of sleep, improved athletic performance, and a reduction of food cravings, particularly when it comes to sugar and carbs. Participants have chimed in with their testimonials, crediting the Whole30 program with everything from clearing up acid reflux to complete elimination of autoimmune disorders. Beyond the physical benefits, the Whole30 program aims to reshape "long-standing, unhealthy patterns related to food, eating and your body image."
The Verdict
While a rigid diet with no allowance for indulgences is not sustainable over time, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to push yourself for a month - sometimes drastic times call for drastic measures! The Whole30 program could be a good option for individuals looking to give themselves a healthy reset or discover what food sensitivities they might have. But before you sign on board, it's essential to read their book that outlines the program to make sure it's right for you.

This Fact About Pippa Middleton's Husband Is Completely Heartbreaking
Pippa Middleton officially became part of the Matthews family when she tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, financier James Matthews, in England on May 20. The lavish and beautiful affair was attended by those closest to the bride and groom, including James's reality TV star younger brother, Spencer. While the siblings are obviously well-known in the UK for very different things, there is one thing that some people might not know: they had an older brother named Michael. In 1999, Michael became the youngest Brit to climb Mount Everest at age 23. While making his way back down the mountain, the experienced climber lost contact with the rest of his team when bad weather approached and he sadly passed away.
To ensure that his memory lives on, his family started the Michael Matthews Foundation, a charity that provides education to children in remote areas. They touched on Michael's spirit on the organization's website, writing, "Mike was cheerful, hard-working, modest and much loved. Wherever he was around, there was laughter. He is greatly missed by his family and friends - and always will be." While James hasn't spoken publicly about his brother's death, Spencer opened up about Michael during an appearance on Britain's Loose Women in 2016, saying, "He lives on in our family. We celebrate his birthday every year. Whenever you feel like giving up, you think about them and how they wouldn't have given up. He was such a brave young man. Often you find the strength to continue with something that you might find tricky by thinking of him."

Prince George and Princess Charlotte Are Headed to Germany and Poland!
If you've been wanting to see more of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, you're in luck because they're headed to Germany and Poland! On Monday, it was announced at a Buckingham Place briefing that Prince William and Kate Middleton are bringing their kids with them on their five-day tour, which kicks off on July 17 and ends on July 21. "They have decided that their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will travel with them and we expect the children to be seen in at least a couple of occasions over the course of the week," their spokesman said. "They look forward to a busy and impactful tour and are grateful that they will have the opportunity to meet the Polish and German people - such important friends of the United Kingdom - as a family."
George and Charlotte will stay with their nanny, Maria Turrion Borrallo, at the Belvedere Palace in Warsaw and at the British ambassador's residence in Berlin while Will and Kate conduct their official duties. If their visit is anything like their 2016 trip to Canada, we're in for a special treat.
8 Toxic Ingredients You Should Never Use in Your Skin Care Routine
Last month, I had the opportunity to visit Tata Harper's farm in Vermont, and it blew my mind. It should not have been so shocking. I've been a fan of her natural-ingredient, eco-friendly skin care and makeup line for years. It's ideal for my sensitive skin, and everything smells deliciously botanical with milky, silky textures. But actually seeing the farm-to-vanity process of these products made me realize: they are the real deal.
These are not products that claim to have organic ingredients but are still packed with "processed" stuff. In fact, most Tata Harper formulas have the shelf life of just a few months. She pointed out: why would you want to put something on your face with enough preservatives to make it last for years? Gross. (I immediately went home after the trip and threw away a ton of expired formulas.)
"I started Tata Harper Skincare after my stepfather was diagnosed with cancer," she told me via email. "Through all of the doctor's appointments I learned so much about lifestyle and how little decisions affect health and wellbeing. That's when I started really researching ingredients, and discovered that a lot of the ingredients with the most potential health risks aren't even there to give results; they're just fillers like preservatives, emulsifiers, stabilizers, and thickeners designed to keep the formula stable and give the product its texture. I only use natural ingredients because I believe that no woman should have to compromise her health for her beauty, especially if those ingredients aren't even making her beautiful!"
The more I learned about natural ingredients, the more I only wanted to use them. Every time I wash my face with Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser, I envision the apricot seed powder exfoliating my skin and the French pink clay detoxifying it. Or when I nourish my face with the Rejuvenating Serum, I know rosehip seed oil is rejuvenating my under-eye area, while Spanish lavender extract is relaxing fine lines.
If you are eager to get informed about the harmful ingredients in your skin care products, as well as natural ones to look for instead, keep reading. Tata Harper herself breaks down what to ditch, what to use, and why.
See Kate and Pippa Middleton's Sweetest Wedding Moments, Side by Side
Pippa Middleton married James Matthews in Berkshire, UK, on Saturday, and naturally, one of the esteemed guests was her older sister, Kate. While the duchess opted out of a traditional matron of honor role - reports said she didn't want to "upstage her sister" on the big day - she did fulfill sweet sisterly wedding duties, like tending to the bride's Giles Deacon gown, fixing her veil, and wrangling all the tiny page boys and flower girls, including her own two kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Pippa's ceremony comes just over six years after she became the breakout star at Kate's royal wedding to Prince William. Kate's appearance instantly reminded us of Pippa's back in 2011 - of course, Kate's beautiful rose-colored Alexander McQueen look doesn't quite rival Pippa's curve-hugging bridesmaid gown, but her loving looks and doting interactions are definitely the same. From arriving in style with their father, Michael Middleton, to sharing kisses with their grooms, once you see photos from both weddings side by side, you'll see what we mean.

11 Things You Probably Never Knew About Disney Classic Lizzie McGuire
I have an incredible statement to make: it's been 16 years since Lizzie McGuire started airing on the Disney Channel. Feel old yet? The show's star, Hilary Duff, is turning 30 this year. Now do you feel old? Whether you do or don't, I'm still willing to bet that if you're a millennial, you watched a whole lot of classic Disney Channel back in the day. (Or maybe you watched Nickelodeon, in which case I have nothing to discuss with you.)
I loved watching Lizzie McGuire because Lizzie was just sooo relatable. Remember that episode when she just wants to get a bra, but she had to awkwardly talk about it in front of her dad and brother? Been there, done that. I have a special place in my heart for the show and the character because I felt like I was going through life right along with Lizzie. So from one fan to another, I wanted to share these 11 fun facts about the show that you might not have known before.
- Heartthrob Ethan Craft was almost portrayed as a bully. Lucky for us, the showrunners switched gears and had him be a lovable character instead.
- Speaking of Ethan, Clayton Snyder, who played Ethan, said as his hair got progressively longer throughout the show, he ended up taking more time in hair and makeup than the girls did.
- A lot of otherwise-famous people had cameos on Lizzie McGuire, including Zachary Quinto, Frankie Muniz, Steven Tyler, and Doris Roberts.
- Hilary Duff almost didn't get the role of Lizzie. In fact, actress Sara Paxton was considered for the role, as was Lindsay Lohan.
- Even though we feel like there have been years and years of episodes of Lizzie, there are actually only 65 of them. Only 65!
- Lizzie's bitmoji character almost didn't happen. Originally the show was just going to have Hilary doing voiceover, but the cartoon character ended up being added in with it.
- When Hilary got the call from Disney that they wanted her to come in to read for the role of Lizzie, she didn't want to go. She said in an interview in 2006 that she wanted her big break and didn't want to work for Disney.
- Hilary said she didn't do well on her first audition because she admittedly didn't know any of her lines. She only went out for the role so she could see her friends.
- Disney Channel execs weren't impressed with Hilary's acting in the beginning, so they demanded the showrunners hire an acting coach to work with the cast.
- There was almost a spinoff about Lizzie's best friend Miranda and her little sister, Stevie, called What's Stevie Thinking?, but it never happened. Selena Gomez was actually supposed to play Stevie!
- The show's creator, Terri Minsky, wants to bring everyone back together for a remake, but unfortunately Hilary's not interested.
People Think All 10 Seasons of Friends Took Place in a Dream Because of This 1 Picture
Friends: a classic, quotable comedy about six NYC-based pals, or the vivid dreams of a woman on the edge? Apparently a lot of people seem to think it's the latter, all because of a seemingly innocuous photo on the season four DVD box set. On Friday, Twitter user Ted Fox shared the image, asking his followers why Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) is the only one in it with her eyes open, while the rest of the characters sleep soundly beside her.
Serious question:
Why is Rachel the only one 👀?

It didn't take long before people started responding with possible theories, leading to what will now be known as #Friendsgate.

A New Bill Would Force Women to Tell Their Rapist If They Seek an Abortion
The battle over women's reproductive rights is raging across the country, but a particular fight in Arkansas is especially notable. Arkansas House Bill 1566, also known as the Tissue Disposal Mandate, was recently passed in the state's 2017 legislative session. The legislation states that any woman who does not consult with the man who impregnated her before seeking an abortion would technically be committing an illegal act.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has already filed a lawsuit against the new provision, which is linked to the Final Disposition Rights Act of 2009. That legislation states that fetal tissue from abortions is to be viewed as a "deceased" family member. Ultimately, the decision to dispose of the aborted fetus would have to be made between both the man and the woman involved, regardless of whether the conception was consensual and no matter the relationship between the woman and the man who impregnated her.
One of the biggest issues with the latest provision - which is already an egregious violation of women's reproductive rights and autonomy - is that it doesn't offer protections or exceptions. In other words, it would legally force rape survivors or survivors of incest to notify their attackers or abusers if they wanted to get an abortion. While the law does not require the male's consent, it is not hard to see how this requirement would make it impossible for many women to avoid breaking the law or further endanger the safety and lives of women who have already been victimized. The provision is set to go into effect on July 30, but the ACLU - which has a pending lawsuit against the legislation - plans to challenge the enforcement of the new abortion law until the matter can be resolved in court.
Already under the current Arkansas law, any physician who performs an abortion without notifying the woman's sexual partner could face criminal charges, which is one of the many reproductive bills activists are currently fighting to change in the state.

Why Digestion Is Messed Up During Your Period
It's beyond rough when you suffer from digestive issues during your period. To help answer a reader's question on this matter, we turned to a board-certified physician who practices in southern California for her expert advice.
Dear Doctor,
I am wondering why my digestion goes haywire during my menstrual period. I always keep my diet clean and exercise daily, but I can't seem to combat the gas, diarrhea, constipation, and constant gurgly noises coming from my gut! What could this be and how can I stop it?
Oh, what fun menstruation is! It's our monthly reminder that we are capable of reproducing, which is a beautiful thing! But, unfortunately, it brings with it some not-so-fun symptoms, including the ones you've listed: gas/bloating, diarrhea, and constipation. The most straightforward answer for your question is that these symptoms you have are due to hormones and chemicals!
The intricate balance of hormones and chemicals is what allows ovulation and menstruation to take place. Estrogen is the hormone that is important in preparing the egg for ovulation. According to MedicineNet.com, it is the progesterone, and to a lesser extent estrogen, that is the culprit for a few of the symptoms you have. Progesterone is the hormone that increases immediately after ovulation and decreases slowly until its levels drop enough to trigger menstruation. The main symptoms that progesterone (and estrogen) cause are bloating, gas, and constipation. This is secondary to the slowing or quieting effect on the contractility of the smooth muscle of the digestive tract that progesterone causes.
Once menstruation is triggered, chemicals called prostaglandins are released. Everyday Health explains that prostaglandins are important in that they cause the uterus to contract to slough off the uterine lining during menstruation. Prostaglandins, especially if present in excess, can lead to uterine cramping and discomfort that some women experience during their menstrual period. In a published study on prostaglandins and the menstrual cycle, prostaglandin levels measured in women during their periods showed that women with diarrhea had higher levels of prostaglandins in their system. Thus, it is possible that higher or excess levels of prostaglandins could be the cause of the diarrhea and gurgly noises you experience during your period, as they cause increased contraction and motility of the smooth muscle of the digestive tract.
Typically, most women experience constipation prior to their menstrual period and this resolves within the first few days of menstruation. Also, according to Everyday Health, generally speaking, women who experience diarrhea during their menstrual cycle typically get it once menstruation has started and it usually occurs in the first three days of your menstrual period. However, all women are different in terms of the levels of hormones they have, and thus, different women can experience different symptoms at different times during their menstrual cycle.
Another study found that women with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are more likely to experience digestive disturbances during their menstrual periods compared to women without chronic bowel problems. Not all women who experience gastrointestinal problems during menstruation have IBS, but it's something to talk to your physician about if your symptoms are extreme. Anytime your symptoms are extreme, or you are experiencing significant pain or bloody stools, you should consult with your physician for further workup and treatment.
There are many things that can be done in the premenstrual and menstrual period to try and alleviate your symptoms. You can alter your diet to include lots of high-fiber foods, whole grains, and vegetables, and limit intake of extra salt, dairy, sugar, alcohol, spicy foods, and caffeine. You can manage or decrease stress by using relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation or by talking with someone. Regular exercise is also recommended during your premenstrual and menstrual period, which can help reduce stress and help your digestive system function more smoothly. Keeping a diary of your GI symptoms prior to and during your period may help you identify patterns with symptoms and food/exercise/behaviors and then a plan can be developed to optimize or avoid certain things during these times to minimize symptoms. Some people's menstrual symptoms may improve by taking medications such as Advil or Aleve (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs) that decrease prostaglandin levels. These medications are relatively well tolerated with short-term use, although they can upset the stomach and are best taken with a small amount of food. Contraindications to use of NSAIDs include: pregnancy, history of stomach or intestinal ulcers, asthma, bleeding abnormalities, and history of allergy to this type of drug. For more information on whether this type of medication is safe for you to take, you should consult with your primary care physician.

We Need to Talk About Zendaya's Scene-Stealing Role in Spider-Man: Homecoming
Warning: Major spoilers below!
It's the question that's been bugging the internet ever since Zendaya was first cast in Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming: does she play Mary Jane Watson or what? Now that the web-slinging superhero has made his triumphant return to the silver screen, we finally have our answer.
*pause to look up drumroll sound effect on YouTube*
No, she doesn't . . . but also, yes, she does. Let us explain.
Zendaya, the superstar actress, singer, dancer, and fashion designer, is barely in Spider-Man: Homecoming. While the trailers kind of insinuated that Zendaya's Michelle would play a key role in the superhero film (which makes sense since she's arguably the most well-known name in the movie's young cast), her character actually only pops up sparingly. Michelle, who's a quiet genius with razor-sharp wit, appears for 30 seconds at a time, cracking sarcastic one-liners at the expense of "losers" and fellow academic decathlon team members Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his BFF Ned (Jacob Batalon) before fading into the background of their high school.
She isn't, as many theorized before Homecoming came out, Peter's love interest. Instead, that role goes to Laura Harrier, who plays popular senior Liz, the object of the young superhero's affections. If you combined all of Zendaya's collective time on screen, the number would likely barely crack even 10 minutes. That's not to say that she doesn't make those 10 minutes count, though. Some of Homecoming's most delightful moments come courtesy of Michelle's biting jokes, like when she makes fun of Peter and Ned for attending a "lame" house party Liz is throwing.
"You're here too," Ned points out.
"Am I?" she responds while casually buttering a piece of toast (sorry, is that not what you're supposed to do at parties?). Later on, when the decathlon team heads to a competition in Washington DC, she notes how she wants to get there early to get some protesting in and opts out of going into the Washington Monument with the rest of the group because she'd rather not go inside a structure "built by slaves." If anyone is proof of the old Hollywood adage that "there are no small parts," it's Zendaya's performance as Michelle.
While chatting with director Jon Watts about Zendaya's character last Summer, he revealed to POPSUGAR that he sees Michelle as a version of Ally Sheedy in The Breakfast Club and what Linda Cardellini is like in Freaks and Geeks. "It's just a cool character, and it's cool for her to be that character, I thought. She has a really cool wardrobe, really funny, lots of literary nods." Michelle, who rocks head-to-toe black, little to no makeup, and a messy ponytail, certainly does have that angsty, John Hughes heroine flair about her, and if the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming is any indication, we'll be seeing a lot more of her.
As the film wraps up, the teacher overseeing the academic decathlon team (a hilariously obtuse Martin Starr), crowns Michelle the group's new leader. While the team happily congratulates her, she tells them thanks and "My friends call me M.J."
Ding, ding, ding!
She might not bear the exact moniker of "Mary Jane," and we still don't know her last name, but it's an exciting development. In the past, Peter Parker's romantic interests - Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane in Sam Raimi's early 2000s franchise and Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy in 2012 and 2014's Amazing Spider-Man movies - acted more as your run-of-the-mill damsels in distress, serving as pretty plot devices to ratchet up the tension when kidnapped. We have a hard time believing Michelle would ever fall into that stereotype.
There isn't a female lead there to act as Peter's sole motivation to be better; the 15-year-old evolves on his own and pushes himself to tackle the burdens of being a teenage superhero (like in one scene where he finds the mental and physical strength to lift a literal concrete wall off his back instead of waiting for someone else to save him). Because of this, both Michelle and Liz get to mostly function as their own, individual characters, complete with personalities and agency.
Since Liz parts ways with Peter at the end of the film, it stands to reason that Michelle (sorry, M.J.) will become an even more important part of the sequel. It would be hard not to be wooed by Peter's web-slinging powers, but let's hope that if they do make her his girlfriend in the future, they also make sure she's his equal.

The Cast of Pretty Little Liars Has Changed So Much Since the Pilot
It has been a long, long journey to the end of Pretty Little Liars. The series premiered in June 2010, and now, seven years later, we've arrived at the series finale. Even though we're still getting over the episode's big reveal, we also can't help but look back at everything we've gone through with Emily, Alison, Aria, Spencer, and Hanna. Just to show how far we've come, we captured each of the main characters (including Mona and Ezra!) as they appear in the pilot episode and compared them to their appearance in the penultimate hour of the series. We excluded Caleb because he doesn't show up until episode 14 of season one, and we excluded Jenna because, even though she's in the pilot, she's been pretty MIA (for the most part) in the final 10 episodes. Let's see just how much (or how little) everyone else has changed.
People Are Snorting Chocolate and We've Officially Seen It All
How far would you go to get your chocolate fix? Well, apparently there are some people out there whose chocolate addiction has reached new heights, because now they're snorting it. Yes, really. Coco Loko is a "snortable" cocoa product ($20) sold by a company called Legal Lean and it claims to give users an "endorphin rush, euphoric energy, and calm focus."
Nick Anderson, the 29-year-old creator of Coco Loko, told The Washington Post he discovered the "chocolate-snorting trend" in Europe a few months ago when a light bulb went off in his head. He decided to bring the trend to the United States. "I tried it and it was like, okay, this is the future right here."
If you're looking for an alternative to energy drinks to stay motivated throughout the day, Anderson says Coco Loko has a similar effect. However, doctors are warning chocolate addicts of the potential dangers that might arise from using the cacao-based powder. "In theory, putting anything in the nose could cause irritation/inflammation and possibly lead to bothersome symptoms - sneezing, stuffiness, drainage, maybe pain/pressure," Dr. Andrew Lane, director of the Johns Hopkins Sinus Center, told US News and World Report.
The controversial chocolate has yet to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Be honest, would you try it?

15 Songs That Will Have You Busting Out a Move This Summer
This year is shaping up to be full of amazing music that will keep everyone on the dance floor all night long. Latino hits like a little song you've probably never heard called "Despacito" (just kidding, we know it's everywhere) and Shakira's "Me Enamoré" are great to dance to, but they are not the only tunes that will be playing on the radio, at parties, and in clubs all season long. The 15 tunes ahead are perfect to let off some steam during the hot Summer months.
9 Song Lyrics From the '90s That Made Absolutely ZERO Sense
Oh, the '90s. Not only did you give us the beloved Tamagotchis and Clarissa Explains It All, but you graced us with life-changing music. Even though you blessed us with the original boy bands, some of the lyrics that came with them were a little questionable. Honestly, it pains my heart to say anything negative about the musical geniuses that filled my portable CD player back in the day. After all, I couldn't imagine making it through my middle school graduation if I didn't belt out "Graduation (Friends Forever)" by Vitamin C with my best friend beforehand. But sometimes it's better to acknowledge the bad so that we can move on - with these '90s stars in that special place in our hearts forever, of course.

What Went Wrong? A Timeline of Kanye West and JAY-Z's Drama
Kanye West and JAY-Z's friendship has hit a bit of a snag as of late. While the two started off as close friends and collaborated on their 2011 album Watch the Throne, it seems Kanye's erratic behavior and his marriage to Kim Kardashian has played a huge part in their falling out. The rift between the two rappers can probably be traced back to when Kanye's initial choice of JAY-Z as his best man fell through when Beyoncé nixed their attendance, but things really escalated when Kanye called out JAY for not visiting him and Kim after her Paris robbery. Here's a look at all the drama that's gone down since then.

Everyone reacts to stress differently. Some get quiet, some crack jokes, and others just can't seem to stop talking. And while there's nothing more nerve-racking for a new dad than being helpless in the delivery room, that's just no excuse for some of the asinine things that come out of their mouths.
