This Is the Only Shampoo That Hasn't Wrecked My Dye Job - and It's Not Labeled Color Care
I get a lot of compliments on my hair color. I'm not being vain, I'm impressed. My natural hair is a lovely shade of dishwater brown - I think, I haven't seen it since my junior year of high school. It's had subtle highlights, chunky blond streaks, rebellious purple-red (a mistake for which I still haven't forgiven my then-stylist), and finally, a natural, warm red. It looks so natural against my pale, freckled skin, in fact, that most people assume it's my real hair color. That's me, above, on my wedding day last year. Vibrant and silky, right?
This is due in part to the skilled colorists who have cared for it, but also to the shampoo and conditioner I use after I leave the salon. I'm obsessive about beauty products, particularly finding the ones that work for me. I've tried so many color care shampoos over the years that you could go to a drugstore, point to one, and I could tell you what it did to my hair. Some are so strong that I've watched in horror as the red color swirled my shower drain. Others have dried out my fragile ends almost instantly. But the biggest issue I have with shampoos formulated for color? They leave my hair feeling gunky, oily, or unclean.
After years of trial and error, I've found my shampoo soulmate: Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Green Tea Clarifying Shampoo ($24).
I've been using this sudsy potion for two years now, and my hair has yet to experience any buildup, color-stripping, or drying. The sulfate-free formula actually lathers (an unnecessary but appreciated quality that many color-care shampoos lack) and makes my hair feel soft and clean. According to Briogeo, the shampoo features a "coconut-derived surfactants to promote a rich lather and effectively cleanse the hair without stripping color or causing a dull, dry appearance." So what I'm saying is, that's totally true.
I pair the shampoo with a cult favorite from the brand, the Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask ($36). The one-two punch cleans my strands then infuses them with vitamin B, rosehip, and argan oils. Both products are so gentle that my stylists have routinely remarked on how well my color has kept up between sessions.
If you've been having some of the same issues I've mentioned, you may want to put these products in your cart!
You've Been Applying Your Skin Care and Makeup in the Wrong Order
It seems like there's a new beauty invention to add to our routine every week (micellar water, lip primer, what?). And with all those bottles and tubes lining the vanity, it's easy to get a little confused about which product goes when. The sequence in which you should apply your skin care and makeup in the morning (or evening) is very important. The right layering technique will ensure you get the maximum efficacy of each product, but it's mostly intuitive.
For example, sunscreen should go on after moisturizer for the best protection, and apply eye shadow ahead of foundation so any fallout won't smudge on your face. But when you start inserting facial oils and contouring powders into the mix, it's enough to make your head spin! Don't worry; we're here to save you from these easy-to-make beauty mistakes.
It's important to remember that you don't need every product in the sequence unless you truly want to use them. Feel free to leave out anything you don't normally use, or take the time now to invest in a great primer, color corrector, or eyebrow pencil. Keep reading to get everything in order - from skin care to cosmetics - for your most flawless face, along with product suggestions for each step.
This Pillowcase Has "Pages" to Give You a Fresh Sheet Each Night - and Might Stop Breakouts
There are few delights in this world quite as sumptuous as falling asleep in brand-new, just-changed sheets (bonus points if the fabric is still warm from your dryer). One new pillowcase gives you the chance to replicate that feeling every night - not just laundry day! - and in doing so might stop your breakouts, too.
At first glance, this Déjà Pillowcase ($44) could be part of your standard white bed set. But it actually has seven "pages" that you can turn over each night to get a whole week's worth of sleep on a clean surface. That means any oils, bacteria, dirt, or grime your skin secretes or sweats off in the night doesn't get back on your pretty face the next time you sleep.
This cotton case is sturdy: every time you flip your "page," you can secure that section back with a ribbon. It's also machine washable, so after your week is up, all you have to do is pop it in the wash.
If you're ride or die with your silk pillowcase because you like how the gentle material protects your blowout and keeps your hair from breaking, don't turn up your nose at this option just yet! A silk Déjà option is in the works, but until then we're so intrigued by the cotton design, we will definitely be trying it out ourselves.

Ariana Grande Ditched Her Ponytail, and You'll Barely Recognize Her
Ariana Grande's ponytail is almost as much of a defining feature as her five-octave vocal range, to the point that she would be nearly unrecognizable without it. The proof was most evident today, when the "No Tears Left to Cry" star let down her hair for the July cover of Vogue UK. Predictably, she looked fabulous - and fans are losing their sh*t over Grande's dramatic make-under.
"B*TCH I'M DEAD. SOMEONE REVIVE ME. HAND ME OXYGEN. SHE LOOKS AMAZING," one person tweeted, noting that Grande was kind enough to also let her freckles peek through, which came courtesy of makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo. Her blowout was the work of hairstylist Chris Appleton, a frequent ponytail collaborator of Grande's, who has also served as hair guru to Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.

I Embraced My Wavy Hair With This 1 Styling Product - and I'm Never Going Back
Over the Winter, I got very attached to my curling iron and now have some very dry, straw-like hair. Hoping to save my strands, I resolved to start air-drying my hair for the Summer and embrace my naturally wavy texture.
If I air-dry my hair without putting in any product, the result is usually a head of frizzy hair I can only describe as poufy, with some very undefined waves. I decided to turn to the Sephora Beauty Insider Community to find a product that would enhance my texture and stumbled upon some recommendations for the DevaCurl Wave Maker Touchable Texture Whip ($26). The cream styler is designed to tame frizz and hold my curls, so I hoped it would solve my poufy-hair problems.
After I shower, I've been drying my hair with a towel, brushing out the tangles, and then working a dime-size amount of the product through my hair. Next, I either braid it until it dries or scrunch my hair upward with my hands. To my delight, the product doesn't leave my hair crunchy like other hair products I've used.
I've been getting a ton of compliments on my waves, and this process has even cut down on my morning routine now that I don't spend 20 minutes using my curling iron.
You can shop the product ahead, as well as some other wave-enhancing products.

The Science of Happiness, and What You Can Learn From Unhappy People
If you've ever heard of "positive psychology," then you already know the technical term for what is often called the "science of happiness."
Positive psychology focuses on the opposite of what psychology has historically concerned itself with - our negative thoughts and behaviors. Scientists are researching the many various and complex factors that comprise happiness.
But this negative focus in conventional psychology also gives us great insight into what makes a person live a happy life. By better understanding what makes people unhappy, we discover what thoughts and behaviors to avoid to create happiness in our lives.
Unhappy people tend to build up negative thoughts - and dwell on them. That negativity might manifest itself in various ways:
- Constantly complaining
- Gossiping about others
- Being highly critical and judgmental
- Worrying all the time - including about what others think of them
- Constantly feeling regret
- Overreacting to difficult situations
Research in positive psychology suggests that training ourselves by creating new and positive habits is a way to rewire the brain. Just like an amateur violinist or swimmer must practice very frequently to refine her skills and eventually achieve a professional level, a person must practice actions and thoughts that lead to a more consistently positive mindset and attitude in life. This is what you'd usually call a happy person.
So now that you know the habits of unhappy people, it's time to refine your happiness skills by practicing the kinds of thoughts and behaviors that generate a positive mindset.
One way to avoid piling on the negative energy is to find a way to release those negative thoughts. You can keep a journal and write it out, you can get crafty and creative and make some art, you can go for a swim or a walk and sweat it out, or you can go and hang out with one of your most positive friends. Whatever you do, remember it's fine to have negative thoughts, as long as you let them go - the sooner, the better.
Focusing on strengths instead of weaknesses is another important step toward "happy person" mode. And that applies to the people around you, as well as yourself. Make a list of all the positive things about yourself, your life, the people you know. Tape it to your mirror and read it every day.
Not only will nonstop worrying keep you unhappy, but it will definitely take its toll on your health and your memory, and can even adversely affect your closest relationships. To help fight off anxious thoughts and feelings of regret, especially about things in life that you simply cannot control, instill some peace and quiet into your mind. How? Meditation and yoga are simple but powerful methods of calming your noisy mind. Start with five minutes of meditation a day, and slowly increase the duration at your own pace. Take a yoga class with a friend so you can keep each other accountable for sticking to the schedule. Being in a more tranquil state of mind will also help you react to complex and stressful situations in a more effective and organized manner.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Are 2 of a Kind at the CFDA Awards
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen stepped out in style for the annual CFDA Awards in NYC on Monday night. The 31-year-old sisters coordinated their outfits, as per usual, and hit the red carpet together upon their arrival. The star-studded event also brought out Irina Shayk, Tracee Ellis Ross, Karlie Kloss, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and will be honoring Kim Kardashian with the first-ever fashion influencer award.
Even though Mary-Kate and Ashley usually keep low profiles, they've already blessed us with not one but two other fun appearances this year. In April, the sisters had a girls' night at the Youth America Grand Prix gala, and the following month, they attended the Met Gala. We just love seeing these two together!
Kim Kardashian Flaunts Her Famous Assets During a Historic Night at the CFDA Awards
All eyes were on Kim Kardashian when she arrived at the CFDA Awards in NYC on Monday night. The 37-year-old reality TV star showed off her famous curves in a sexy white ensemble when she hit the red carpet, and the event also brought out her sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. It's a big night for Kim, who is making history and receiving the first-ever fashion influencer award at the ceremony.
Back in May, Tommy Hilfiger, who's on the CFDA's board, announced that it was actually his idea to create the special honor for Kim. "Kim is the most important and powerful influencer in the world," the designer said in a statement. "Her reach extends far beyond her own brands. Every time she wears, posts, or talks about a fashion brand, there is an immediate and significant increase in both awareness and sales." Naturally, Kim was over the moon and shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, "OMG OMG OMG So excited to receive the first ever Influencer Award at the @cfda Fashion Awards on June 4th!" Congrats to Kim!
You're Not Crazy - This Legendary Actor Has Been on The Bachelor Before!
If you watched the latest episode of The Bachelorette, you may have spotted a familiar face. During the Bachelorette Dodgeball Tournament, Chris Harrison was joined by none other than Fred Willard, an entertainment industry veteran. While you may not have been able to place him, his résumé definitely holds a few titles that you'll recognize.
Prior to his engagement as dodgeball commentator extraordinaire for The Bachelorette, Willard actually played a role in Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s season in episode three, when the contestants put on a show with The Dynamo Dogs. He and host Chris Harrison commentated once again on the contestants' performances with the dogs, adding their own spin on things with a smattering of comedy.
Apart from his time on the romantic ABC franchise, Willard is a four-time Emmy-nominated performer. His credits on the small and big screens stretch all the way back to the 1960s! His notable roles include appearances on sitcoms Everybody Loves Raymond and Modern Family. The actor has also lent his voice to cartoon shows, including Hey Arnold and Hercules.

He's also been in feature-length films Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Willard has also, ironically enough, played a witty announcer before, in Christopher Guest's 2000 comedy Best in Show (pictured above).
Fred Willard is a true national treasure. Could we have found a possible cohost for Chris Harrison?
No, Lincoln From The Bachelorette Is Not From England
If there's one thing we can't resist, it's a man with an accent. But if that's why you like Lincoln Adim from The Bachelorette, you've probably been mistaken about where he's from. While you're not the first to confuse his accent, it's important to know the truth.
Lincoln is originally from Nigeria. He moved to Boston when he was a teenager, went to college at the University of Kentucky, and currently lives in Santa Monica. So yeah, no British roots here!
But how is it that some viewers thought Lincoln was from a totally different country on a totally different continent? Well, the video below should answer a few things. In addition, one research paper said that English spoken in Nigeria is "different from the standardized British accent, the RP." However, it's not far-fetched to confuse the two. A similar confusion has also risen between South African and Australian accents.

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck Get Shady While Watching Their Kids Play at the Park
When Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck announced their plans to divorce back in June 2015, they made it clear that they would remain friendly and committed to coparenting their three kids, Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. Since then, they've been spotted on multiple outings together and opened up about their "modern family." On Saturday, the former couple were spotted at a park in LA, sitting together in the grass while their children played. Jen and Ben both seemed happy and relaxed, even letting out a few laughs as they hung out under a shady tree.
Ben recently finished filming the Netflix movie Triple Frontier with Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, and Oscar Isaac in Hawaii. Back in March, he showed off his massive back tattoo on the beach and made time for some water sports with girlfriend Lindsay Shookus. Despite the potential awkwardness, Jen made sure that she and the kids were in Hawaii to spend Easter together with Ben. Coparenting at its finest.

John Cena seems to be doing a lot better following his split from Nikki Bella. On Sunday, the 41-year-old WWE superstar appeared to be in a good mood when he stepped out for dinner at Mastro's steakhouse in LA. During his outing, TMZ caught up with John and asked him about his recent comments about wanting a family with Nikki. "I would love to be a dad," John told TMZ. "I realize very much that I have been steadfast in saying that I don't want children, but I'm a little bit older now and wiser . . . I dedicated my life to my work and now I'm realizing that there is life and life exists and it's beautiful and I think part of that is being a parent."
John and Nikki called it quits in April, just one month before their wedding. Nikki has always been vocal about wanting to get married and have kids. John, on the other hand, initially did not want to get married again (he was previously married to a woman named Elizabeth Huberdeau) and told Nikki that children were not in his future, however, he has since had a change of heart. As for the status of their relationship, John referred to Nikki as his "best friend" but didn't confirm whether or not they've actually reconciled.
Here's How Much Money Becca Could Make as the Bachelorette
Becca Kufrin might have her fans' Venmo drinking fund to fall back on - it was created so Becca wouldn't have to pay for booze following the terrible Arie Luyendyk Jr. breakup on the Bachelor finale - but being the Bachelorette is definitely going to be bringing her more money.
Over the years, there have been all sorts of reports talking about whether or not the Bachelor and the Bachelorette make money while being on the show. They don't have any expenses while on the series - though they do live rent-free in a mansion with "free" food and wine - but that doesn't mean their real-life expenses go away magically.
In fact, when it comes to the ladies who compete on the series, there are even more expenses than your rent, food, and average living fees to deal with. Think two months of glamorous dresses, beauty prep fees, and lots and lots of shoes!
With all of that said, we've always wondered how much money, if any, the contestants and leading men and women make to star on the reality series. The short answer is that it varies, and the long answer is the more popular you are, the more money you get . . . once you're off the show.
For example, Emily Maynard made $250,000 for her role as the star on season eight of The Bachelorette, while Us Weekly said that Ashley Hebert only made $30,000. Meanwhile, Reality Steve reports that ABC tends to pay its stars closer to the $100,000 range, which makes a little more sense.
Keep in mind that the leads of each season of The Bachelorette have to put their real careers on hold, assuming they don't get fired for being gone for two months, and therefore it makes sense that they make somewhere near their normal salary for the time they're out of the office.
Although the numbers vary, there is a wide consensus that the alumnae of this franchise make bank once they're done filming or when they are filming spinoffs. For example, E! Online reported that Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici made six figures for doing a TV wedding, which is equal to the amount of cash that Hebert raked in with her TV nuptials.
This doesn't include all of the endorsement money and product placement deals that each of the big stars from the reality dating series can land if they are popular enough. Take all of the Bachelorette ladies who always seem to be promoting FabFitFun boxes; they're not doing it just for fun. In fact, Kaitlyn Bristowe has ads for Colgate and Reddi-wip on her Instagram account as we speak, and she was just in a commercial with her main man, Shawn Booth, for Reddi-wip during the Bachelor finale. Talk about coming full circle!
Those ads, commercials, and partnerships can bring in millions of dollars. They reportedly can get $1,500 to $7,000 for just one picture on Instagram. In 2016, Us Weekly reported that Jade Roper and husband Tanner Tolbert were "on track to make $1 million from sponsored posts," which just means social media. It's all insane.
So, while the exact salary our next Bachelorette is going to make is unknown - Becca is a publicist, so she's probably making a decent living right now - she is already so loved from Bachelor Nation, so she has a long list of possible partnerships and Instagram ads heading her way even if she doesn't find love.
Ella Mai Has More Than 1 Hit Song, OK? Check Out the Rest of Her Playlist-Worthy Tracks
"Listen my to heart go ba-dum, boo'd up / Biddy-da-dum, boo'd up / Hear my heart go ba-dum, boo'd up . . ."
We haven't been able to get these lyrics out of our heads since last year, and chances are you haven't either if you've ever had the privilege of listening to English singer-songwriter Ella Mai, whose incredibly catchy track "Boo'd Up" recently peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. Let us be the first to tell you that if "Boo'd Up" is the only song of hers you're listening to these days . . . you're missing out on something great.
Mai has been delivering hits since her first of three EPs. In February 2016, she released her first, Time, and followed it up just nine months later with Change, and finally Ready, out in February 2017. Needless to say, the 23-year-old has been putting in work to get where she is today, and our playlists full of her songs are proof. "Boo'd Up" is unquestionably one of our favorite Summer bops, but there are a bunch more that are worth the hype. Check them out ahead!
