7 Foods I Ate as Often as Possible to Get Rid of My Belly Fat

When it comes to losing weight and changing your body, what you eat has the biggest impact. When I was trying to lose weight last year, I was exercising regularly (mostly strength training and running), but I spent more time cleaning up my diet. After a few months of hard work, I dropped a dress size and shrunk my midsection. These are the seven foods I ate regularly in order to get rid of my belly fat. Spoiler alert: I didn't have to give up carbs.

Beginner Treadmill Plan: Here's How to Build Up to a 5K in 8 Weeks

If you're one of those people who can't run a single mile without huffing and puffing, you're not alone. Even the strongest runners had to start somewhere! Sure, some people are just born with natural athleticism, but most have to build up their endurance from the ground up. Good news for you: we teamed up with an expert to create the perfect beginner treadmill plan that will help you work up to a 5K (or just over three miles) in eight weeks. Totally doable!

Ahead is a full breakdown by Michael Olzinski, MSc, Equinox run coach and Lululemon run coach, that includes three training sessions per week.

I Tried Sleeping With My Mouth Taped Shut and the Results Surprised Me

Mouthbreather. If we're talking sleeping styles, the familiar Stranger Things insult could easily be flung my way. I've always maintained a "comfortable" sleep position for most of my life: laying on my stomach or side, head burrowed into a pillow, with my mouth slightly open. Drool? Embarrassing, but definitely present.

While my sleeping style is pretty much habitual, I recently noticed my quality of rest decreasing. It's definitely not terrible, but I'd often wake up in the middle of the night, sometimes with a sore throat, which I'd chalk up to seasonal allergies, and spend the remaining hours of my night chasing down the REM stage. I saw a friend of mine post about using "mouth tape" at night; at first I was skeptical and a little bit spooked. The goal of mouth taping is to force nose breathing while you sleep instead of relying heavily on your mouth. The idea seemed slightly uncomfortable to me, but I couldn't abandon the feeling that it might be the solution to my (minor) sleeping woes.

According to SomniFix, a brand which offers its own line of hypoallergenic nighttime mouth strips, there are many benefits to taping before bed, including: deep sleep, more efficient carbon dioxide-oxygen exchange, and reduced sinus and oral discomforts. All good things, right? I decided to give mouth taping a try, partially for the claimed benefits and partially for my own entertainment. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't mostly slightly intrigued by the "weirdness" of it all.

Having a Mid-Afternoon Slump? Reach For a Cup of Green Tea - Here's Why

From classic tea to matcha, green tea seems to be everywhere. Sipping on a cup or two a day can help you with weight loss and cutting back on highly caffeinated beverages, like coffee and soda, while boosting your energy levels.

Green tea has caffeine in it, which is the active ingredient in your favorite energy drinks and coffee. In fact, all tea, unless explicitly labeled as caffeine-free (usually herbal teas), contains some amount of the awakening ingredient. Because of this, green tea can provide you with a boost of energy that helps you get through the day. Studies support this, showing that drinking green tea regularly can help with energy and endurance.

If matcha is more your style than traditional green tea, we have even better news for you. The delicious, finely ground powder is known for its sharp flavor and for its myriad health benefits - antioxidants and disease-fighting properties, among others. When it comes to energy, matcha is head and shoulders above other caffeinated beverages for one simple reason: it won't give you the dreaded caffeine crash because it contains an amino acid (called L-theanine) that reduces anxiety and high blood pressure and fights those coffee jitters.

Although the health benefits of green tea can be tempting, be sure to practice moderation and, most importantly, listen to your body. Green tea can be safely consumed in large amounts (and a higher quantity may even increase the health benefits), but if you have a sensitive stomach, are pregnant, or tend to be caffeine sensitive, limiting your intake is probably a good idea.

The 1 Full-Body Strength-Training Move Most People Neglect, According to This Trainer

Image Source: Burst / Shopify Partners

Ready to meet an all-around smart exercise that offers a laundry list of amazing benefits? Great, let's talk about the viking press, a versatile move that Westin's Global Run Concierge Chris Heuisler says is one people shouldn't neglect. The viking press is essentially a kneeling, twisted-overhead press. Here are several reasons you should incorporate it into your workouts, according to Chris:

  • It works your butt and core (especially your external obliques).
  • It naturally tones your shoulders.
  • It moves you transversely.
  • It elevates your heart rate.

Sounds awesome, right? Most of your power comes from the transverse (horizontal) plane, making rotational movements especially important in your workouts. For example, a straight jab doesn't generate as much power as a hook would because it doesn't generate as much momentum. But according to Chris, "We don't move like that anymore. If you've ever seen kids move, what they're not doing is what we're doing every day, which is going in a straight path. That's actually to our disadvantage."

The viking press helps combat that as it calls for a complete rotation and lengthens your entire body. "I'm teaching my body how to stabilize in transverse," he told POPSUGAR. "My right glute has to connect to my core to make this work, otherwise if that's off, my stability is off. You have to have stability before you have mobility."

How to Do It

  • Begin in a kneeling lunge, keeping your left leg bent in a 90-degree angle and your right leg bent perpendicular to the ground.
  • Hold a dumbbell slightly in front of your chest.
  • Squeeze your glute, open your hip, and rotate your body to the left side, reaching up for the ceiling.
  • Come back down in a slow, controlled movement to the front.

This move can also be completed with a kettlebell by turning it upside down.

Cheese-Lovers, Here's All the Dairy You Can Eat on the Keto Diet

Over the last year, the keto diet has skyrocketed in popularity, probably for one very distinct reason: it encourages you to eat fatty foods. The only major caveat is that you have to keep your carb intake low. Offsetting this often-difficult task, however, is the keto diet's allowance of another beloved food group: dairy. Most cheeses are low in carbs, making them perfectly acceptable for the keto meal plan. The same goes for fatty dairy foods like butter and heavy cream, which almost seems too good to be true. A diet that gives you the thumbs-up when you eat butter? It's not hard to see how it caught on and spread like wildfire.

Although you won't be able to enjoy the glorious combination that is cheese and bread (bye-bye, buttered toast and bagels with cream cheese) if you've gone keto, you'll still be able to indulge in plenty of decadent recipes. Click through to see which dairy products you can eat on the keto diet, along with some keto-friendly recipe ideas.

However, it is possible! You just have to lose weight everywhere so that your hard work eventually reaches your face. These are the five things I did to lose face fat, and feel more confident and healthier than ever.

Does Drinking Cold Water Actually Aid Weight Loss? Finally, Here's You're Answer

You may have heard that drinking cold water can help you burn more calories throughout the day, but unfortunately, that tip is merely myth. Although it makes sense to think that your body would use more energy to heat the water to its core temperature, studies have found that the amount of calories burned (about four to seven calories per glass) is too minimal to actually make a difference. However, drinking cold water does offer benefits outside of weight loss.

According to Jacqueline Schaffer, MD, a board-certified medical doctor, "cold water can increase blood circulation on the skin's surface specifically," which can promote the appearance of glowing skin. Additionally, research has shown that drinking cold water during exercise can decrease dehydration and make you feel less tired, helping you work out longer as a result. The reason being that it helps keep your core body temperature cool.

But regardless of what temperature your water is, the most important thing is that you're drinking water at all. Dehydration is not something to take lightly: it can cause fatigue, irritability, muscle cramps, dizziness, and headaches, and even cause your metabolism to slow down without the ability to remove waste. A good rule of thumb is to to drink about half of your bodyweight (in pounds) in fluid ounces.

Moral of the story: just drink water. Period.

It's Impossible For Kylie Jenner to Get Cold Feet About Anything - Not in These Hot, Sexy Shoes

Kylie Jenner's street style isn't exactly predictable. While we know she's a fan of body-concious dresses and logo prints, when it comes to her footwear, one day it's sneaks for Ky, and the next, it's the strappiest darn heels in existence. From mesh stilettos that pretty much look like stockings to courtside stunners that wrap around the ankles more times than a basketball could possibly spin around a rim, her statement shoes leave our jaws on the floor. Then we pause and think, "Hey, when you're wearing a comfy outfit, a sky-high, thigh-high might not be all that bad of an idea." On that note, read on to zoom in on Kylie's steamiest, sultriest heels, then shop her looks, and let 'em all stare you up and down . . . but mostly down. (Wink, wink.)

The Dior Saddle Bag Is Nice, but This One's Named After Princess Diana

If you're a fashion girl, you're probably familiar with the classic Lady Dior bag and the signature Gancio clasp spotted on Salvatore Ferragamo Lady D chain-strap designs. But you might not have realized that these two creations were named after and popularized by the late Princess Diana.

Today, both brands still market these silhouettes with ties to the beloved royal. Read on to see Princess Diana wearing them, then shop the modernized versions.

12 Times Princess Diana Royally Schooled Us in How to Style Denim

We've got a theory that every denim designer right now has a Princess Diana mood board taped to a wall somewhere. This is because every trend dominating runways and stores right now, from mom jeans to overalls, was first worn by the lady of denim herself. Showcasing her love for the fabric, Diana would often opt for a pair of high-waisted jeans on an off-duty day with her sons, later dressing up the style on tours with oversize blazers and boots. Along with classic jeans, her closet featured a selection of denim shirts, even styled with jeans for a full denim-on-denim look on occasion.

This isn't the first time we've acknowledged Diana's outfits being ahead of their time. Her undeniably iconic style still reigns today, from her love of heavy aviator sunglasses that suited her delicate features to her collection of Summer swimsuits that we're all still shopping right now. (Oh, and hell yes she owned Superga sneakers, worn with jeans, of course.) Scroll to be schooled on how to wear denim now, by someone who was styling it royally well 25 years ago.

Can Your Kid Safely Drink Coffee? According to the Experts, No Way

Since kids have plenty of energy without any caffeine needed, it should really be adults that are allotted a mandatory midday nap time. However, as your children enter adolescence and develop a desire to appear more grown up, chances are they'll start eyeing your coffee mug and asking for a cup of their own. Too much caffeine can lead to insomnia, jitters, an upset stomach, headaches, difficulty concentrating, and increased heart rate in grown people, so you can just imagine how a cup of joe might affect a youngster. There's not necessarily a black-and-white answer for what age is appropriate to introduce coffee to your kids, but experts agree that coffee shouldn't be introduced to a children's diet until they reach the end of puberty.

So far, the American Academy of Pediatrics has not specifically set guidelines for caffeine in children, although they don't recommend that children under the age of 12 have caffeine of any kind. Besides producing hyperactivity and an inability to concentrate, children who consume caffeine are more likely to experience a decline in tooth enamel, decreased appetite, and bone loss. According to Marcie Beth Schneider, MD, FAAP, a former member of the AAP committee on nutrition, and a specialist in adolescent medicine, caffeine and children simply don't mix. "Caffeine is a stimulant, and therefore it may change a kid's appetite," she told POPSUGAR. "Adolescents gain half of their adult weight in their teenage years. If caffeine curbs their appetite in some way, it could affect their growth."

As well as physical concerns, caffeine can also have a detrimental effect on your adolescent's temperament. "For kids who have some anxiety (and it may even be under control in normal conditions), caffeine can really increase anxiety," said Schneider. A study done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 73 percent of children consume caffeine on any given day, and coffee accounts for more than twice as much of that caffeine intake that it did a decade ago. For Schneider, the best way to get these numbers down and to prevent caffeine's negative side effects is to monitor the drinks your child is consuming. For children under the age of 18, Schneider recommended that "it's really in their best interest to not start something they'd be addicted to." Whether it's an energy drink, a can of soda, or a latte from Starbucks, Schneider believes the best way to promote healthy development is to keep caffeine out of kid's hands until after high school.

What It's Really Like Being a Mom and a Teacher During the School Year

Around 5 a.m., my alarm vibrates me awake. Creeping across our old house, careful not to step on the wood boards that will squeak and wake my son and husband, I spend the next hour hustling to get everything ready for my day. If I do a good job of being quiet, I'll leave before my son wakes. Why? Because I'm a teacher and a mother.

Being a teacher can sometimes feel like I have more than 20 kids, and that responsibility can be exhausting.

Even though my school starts later than his, my 40-minute commute is just one of the reasons I leave so early. Teaching is a performative profession, one where my ability to help kids process and learn the material requires me to be on my best game. That can't happen if I'm strolling in as the school bell rings, a third cup of coffee in one hand and lesson plans in the other. Most teachers need time to prepare, get papers in order, and meet with students before the day even officially starts. As a teacher, this is best practice, but as a mom, it means there are days where I only get a handful of hugs in with my child before it's time for bed.

Being a teacher and having a child in school gives me a different perspective. I know how hard teaching can be, so my admiration for his teachers is more extensive than I could ever express. And I try to be the type of parent that I sometimes wish my students had. I'll attend every curriculum night, volunteer when needed, and respond quickly to emails. I have to trust that my son's teacher wants the best for him, and part of that responsibility is doing my job as a parent. That doesn't mean that I'm not overly critical, even if I sometimes wish I wasn't. Knowing the teacher vernacular and how a classroom should operate helps me know what to expect from his school, and I will ask questions if something seems amiss.

But I also have to walk the fine line of trying to put both my son and my students first. If something is going on at school, my attention might be taken away from my son, and vice versa. I have a classroom of little kids looking to me all day to teach them things, look after them, and protect them, and then I go home at night and try to do the same for my son. Being a teacher can sometimes feel like I have more than 20 kids, and that responsibility can be exhausting.

But I'd also be lying if I said there weren't some beneficial aspects of teaching as a mom. Most of the time, our schedules overlap, so my son and I have the same days off. And I'm usually always home by 5 p.m., which is just enough time to rustle up some dinner, cuddle with him on the couch, and put him to bed. I try not to bring work home with me, but when I have to, we make his homework time family homework time, so I can tackle the mountain of papers I have to grade while he gets his work done.

In truth, being a teacher is not that different than a lot of other demanding jobs out there. The long hours are rough, but I know I'm not alone. If there's anything I've learned as a teacher, it's that most parents want what's best for their kid. So while it can sometimes feel like 20 times the parental responsibility, I know it's all worth it.

The 10 Best Vegetables Your Kids Should Eat, According to a Nutritionist

Creating healthy eating habits is so important for children. Even though I wish I could let my son eat whatever his heart desires, I know that a steady diet of fruit snacks and pizza may not be the best idea. For all kids to grow healthy and strong, they need to eat their vegetables. Frances Largeman-Roth, nutritionist, author of Eating In Color: Delicious, Healthy Recipes For You and Your Family, and mom of three, told POPSUGAR that while getting kids to eat their vegetables may not be easy, it's well worth it. "Most kids love fruit, but veggies can sometimes be a tough sell," she said. "Some kids prefer raw veggies to cooked because they like the crunch, but each kid is different, and you'll likely have to offer several different varieties to your child to find a few they like."

And if they refuse to eat a particular vegetable several times, it's easy to give up - but don't! "Studies show that young kids need to be introduced to a new food up to 20 times before they'll try it," Largeman-Roth explained. "Plus, their tastes change over time. They may turn their noses up at Brussels sprouts now, but in six months, they may actually ask for them. The important thing is to be flexible, keep an open mind, and set a great example for them by eating a variety of healthy foods yourself, including veggies." 7 Things Special Education Teachers Want Parents to Know

Having a child with special needs often leaves parents with oodles of questions when it comes to their education. Does my kid need an IEP? Should I schedule regular meetings with his or her teacher? Am I doing enough to help my child in the classroom? For concerned parents, getting to the bottom of all their pressing questions can quite frankly be exhausting. We did some of the heavy lifting for moms and dads who are navigating the school system by asking special needs educators the things they want parents to know. And unsurprisingly, their answers are beyond enlightening.

6 Things I Tell My Child With a Disability Every Single Day

Our society is headed in the right direction when it comes to having more awareness, inclusiveness, and accommodations for people with disabilities. Every day, people are learning more about the differences in the way others behave, think, and communicate, and it's absolutely wonderful.

But even though we're making great progress, being a child with a disability can be pretty tough. There are many struggles these children face on a daily basis, and it's frustrating and heartbreaking when others don't understand, or they don't understand it themselves. As a parent of a child with a disability, I make it a point to tell my child these six positive things every single day, because I want her to know how amazing she really is.

13 Horror Films That Won't Scar Your Tweens For Life

As a Certified Wimp™, there are only a few scary movies that I can really handle watching to ensure I don't spend the next week having nightmares over a film's plot. However, I was forced to watch tons of horror movies as a kid at sleepovers and birthday parties, because it's apparently some kind of rite of passage as a tween and teen to sit through scary movies with friends and not completely freak out (which I never once succeeded at, for the record).

Whether you're a horror film buff or not, you may have a budding scary-movie-lover on your hands (or just a kid who wants to watch all of the movies in various Halloween movie marathons on TV without really knowing what they're getting into). To ease your 9- to 13-year-olds into scary movies, there are a handful of classics and a few newer horror films that have just the right amount of fright - there's nothing too terrifying, but nothing too childish on this list. (You know your kid best, so before watching some of these films, you may have to consider what your child can handle, despite the age each film is considered appropriate for.)

Read ahead for 13 scary movies that are perfect to pop on at your tween's next sleepover, during a Halloween party, or on your next family movie night (and check out this larger list of Halloween movies for kids of all ages).

Teacher's Brilliant Trick to Find Out Which Children Are Being Left Out Needs to Happen in Every Classroom

It's been four years since a fifth-grade math teacher's simple yet brilliant idea to prevent bullying garnered national attention, but it's still making waves online.

Back in 2014, author Glennon Doyle wrote about how her son's teacher, Cathy Pitt, used a simple piece of paper once a week to gather clues as to which children in her class were being left out, feeling lonely, or possibly even at risk of being bullied.

"I simply hand out an index card to each child," Cathy, who teaches at Sea Gate Elementary School in Florida, told the Today show. Then she tells the kids, "On the back of your cards, make sure you list someone that you know you want to get to know."

Thus, by form of secret ballot, she has her students highlight an exceptional classmate along with a few names of fellow students they'd like to work with during the next group project.

"When I came up with the idea of simply distributing the cards, it really was to find out which children were belonging and which children were not," she said. Every single Friday, after the students went home, she'd review the cards and look for patterns:

Who is not getting requested by anyone else?
Who doesn't even know who to request?
Who never gets noticed enough to be nominated?
Who had a million friends last week and none this week?

Although the cards made it clear who the most "exceptional" students were, the names that showed up the least were the ones that Cathy needed to monitor the most, and she would.

Doyle, whose blog post on Pitt's trick was shared more than 4 million times in the first week it was published, said that Cathy had been doing this for the past 20 years - since the school shooting at Columbine. "That was the day she realized that kids have to be seen," Doyle said. "And they can fall through the cracks."

Dear Baby, After Our Loss, Your First Christmas Means So Much More

To My Darling Baby Before Your First Christmas,

There were so many things I dreamed of doing with your sister. Taking her to the beach, singing to her, showing her what the color blue looks like. I also looked forward to her first Christmas. Hanging up her stocking, watching her watch the lights on the tree, including her in our family Christmas card. It breaks my heart that we will never get to do those things with her, because as I've already told you (not that you understand yet), we lost your sister while she was still in Mommy's belly.

The days after we said goodbye to her and every hope we had for her future were hazy and dark, and before I knew it, Christmas was upon us. As you can imagine, my love, the holiday season was very, very sad for me, your daddy, and your sisters. We wanted to make the holiday about honoring your angel sister, though, so we decorated a tree for her. But I didn't want any presents. And I couldn't wait for all the revelry to be over - the holiday parties, people wishing me a merry Christmas. I didn't feel merry. I just felt sad and hopeless. So hopeless that we couldn't even spend Christmas at home and had to go on a trip to spare ourselves some of the pain.

Then, by some miracle, you came into our lives. You, this beautiful, special spirit that lifted me up and gave me a reason to think things could get better. Now that you're in my arms, I find myself looking forward to Christmas again instead of dreading it. Even though I never thought I'd be in this place, I can't wait to hang up your stocking for the first time, see your reaction when the tree is lit up, and photograph you for the family holiday card. I can't wait to dress you up in Christmas pajamas, sing you holiday songs, and wrap too many gifts for you.

Sure, somebody will still be missing this Christmas. Your sister's absence will always be felt, at the holidays and all other times of the year. And yes, I might cry and feel sad and think about her when we're decorating the tree and opening gifts on Christmas morning. But I want you to know, my sweet baby, if you see Mommy smiling over in the corner of a holiday gathering, it's because of you. If you see Mommy laugh at a time I would have otherwise sobbed, like when we're unwrapping ornaments I wanted to show your sister, it's because you're here to see them.

Because of you, my child, this Christmas will be full of joy. Because of you, our family can reclaim the holiday as a celebratory time. Because of you, I want to decorate the house and go Christmas shopping and bake cookies. I want to hear Christmas songs on the radio and receive friends' holiday greetings. For all of this and more, I am forever grateful to you. You've lit up my world like a shining Christmas star. You are what the holiday season is all about: love, joy, acceptance, forgiveness, and peace.

Always,
Mom

The 1 Thing Princess Diana Never Changed

Princess Diana was known as the people's princess. Before her tragic death in 1997, she was consistent in her work with various charities, her special relationship with the public, and her family.

She also had timeless style and often experimented with her makeup (blue eyeliner, anyone?), but the one thing she never changed was her hair. The late royal even had a sneaky way of cutting it so that the public wouldn't notice: her hairstylist Richard Dalton once said, "we had to do it one-fourth of an inch at a time over several weeks" so that the attention by the press wouldn't take away from her work.

Unlike Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, who have changed their hair on various occasions and have both refined their signature style since joining the royal family, Princess Diana's approach was much more understated. She preferred to get swept-back blowouts with her pixie cut that had lots of volume, and she kept her hair an ashy blond.

You'll see exactly what we mean ahead.

Using These Halloween Makeup Products Could Result in a Nightmarish Breakout

As a woman who loves Halloween more than Christmas, my skin has seen its fair share of horrifying moments. From prosthetics to cream makeup and everything in between, if it helps create the character I'm going for, I'm probably going to use it. But that doesn't mean my skin stops being scary after I remove the cosmetics.

I buy professional-grade theatrical makeup that is made to be safe for the skin. But it's hard to avoid picking up that paint set at your local drugstore when it's only $6, right? The thing is, it could actually be terrible for your - or your child's - skin.

Asia Vereline, master esthetician and general manager at Joanna Vargas Salon Los Angeles,
and celebrity esthetician Biba de Sousa explain how your Halloween makeup look can wreak havoc on your skin along with some alternatives to try instead. And if you still need makeup inspiration, check out our gallery of easy Halloween tutorials.

Cream Pigment

Those packs from the drugstore may be cheap, but consider how long they might have been in the warehouse. "Since it's a strictly seasonal item, it probably sits on the shelves at the Halloween headquarters for few years, and no one questions it," said Biba. They also have very little pigment, so you might not get the payoff you're expecting, either.

"They are baked on a low temperature and have low-grade ingredients that melt, and those ingredients will irritate the skin," she added. "So it's a double losing situation: the special-effect makeup not only looks bad, but it also disappears or gets misshaped quickly and stings and burns the skin."

Asia agreed when it comes to the ingredients. "Most Halloween makeup from the drugstore can have added colors that are not FDA-approved and waxes and oils that can clog your pores."

In addition to checking the FDA website to make sure the ingredients are safe, test a patch of makeup on your wrist or behind you ear to gauge if you'll react adversely or not. When it comes to picking a good cream, Biba suggested Kryolan Professional Make-Up, which is noncomedogenic; according to Asia, you can also use a primer to act as a barrier between the product and your skin.

Glitter

Glitter can go from zero to 60 real quick. It may seem obvious, but always go for cosmetic glitter, because it's made for your face. Craft glitter is pretty, but oftentimes the particles are large and sharp, which doesn't bode well if it ends up in your eye.

With the right glitter, Asia said the easy way to apply it to your face or body is to mix it with a bit of coconut oil or aloe vera, both of which are good for the skin. However, if you're putting glitter over water-activated makeup, you might want to skip the oil.

Fake Blood

Fake blood can be extremely irritating to the skin on top of staining everything. The last thing you want to do is attend a party and leave behind a bloody hand print that can't be removed! Instead, make your own fake blood. "It's better than the petroleum-based fake blood at the stores, which will definitely clog your pores," said Asia.

If you want to DIY fake blood for clothes, one option is to mix a red pigment with dish soap. This will help lift the color out of the costume if you plan on wearing it again (and not destroying it!). For the face, corn syrup and a cut of old red lipstick will do the trick. Try this nifty toothbrush trick to get the perfect splatter.

How My Love of Alcohol Actually Improved My Hair - Really

"Alaina, do we need to talk?," my mom said after she walked out of my bathroom last weekend. She was in town visiting, and noticed that I had a bottle of vodka sitting by my shower. I assured her it was just for research: for the past few weeks, I've been quietly testing the efficacy of fabled alcohol rinses.

Celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones swear that adding alcohol into their hair leaves things soft and silky. At first, it sounds like a huge waste of good alc. So, I decided to rinse my hair with three different kinds of booze to see what's what - so go make yourself a drink and read the results ahead.

This Hair Extensions Trend Sweeps the Rest - but Would You Wear It?

Forget those 22-inch clip-in extensions you occasionally reach for on nights out. This year, hair extensions are being stretched to the limit. On the red carpet, celebrities are taking their length to extremes - to the butt and beyond (and nothing above that).

It all began at the Met Gala, when a number of stars wore extensions, wigs, and weaves that cascaded down the back. Since then, we've seen this look everywhere, from Jennifer Lopez's superglam appearance at the MTV VMAs to the knee-skimming look that's become Nicki Minaj's 2018 trademark.

So would you wear this look? Minaj may be brave enough to rock these lengths in the middle of the day, but it could be more difficult when you don't have a hair stylist on standby. Few people are lucky enough to to be able to get this look naturally (even with all the magical hair growth potions Pinterest can supply), but a good salon should be able to source you some extralong extensions if you are in the market for hair you can sit on, wrap around your waist, and whip back and forth to your heart's content. Ahead, see some of the stars who've made XL hair look damn easy.

The 1 Surprising Beauty Tool You're Completely Overlooking

By now, you've probably learned the importance of wearing sunscreen, washing off your makeup before bed, and keeping your skin hydrated. One thing you might be overlooking, however, is the importance of tools you use on your skin - like cotton balls.

Like all areas of skin care, Asian countries have been pushing the boundaries of innovation on this front, meaning it might be time to consider swapping out your cotton balls for more sophisticated Asian cotton pad varieties. You may think you don't need fancy cotton pads, but you're wrong.

The latest iterations from Japan, China, Korea, and other Asian countries are softer, thicker, and more absorbent than any cotton ball or pad you've ever picked up at your local pharmacy. The cotton is frequently unbleached, has multiple layers, and is ideal for applying toners, essences, and liquid exfoliants to your skin. Many brands make the cotton pads thick enough that you can use both sides without experiencing wilting, and they never pill or leave white fuzz on your face. The pads are also bigger, so you can complete your dozen-step skin routine faster and easier.

Ahead you'll find some brands that make varieties worthy of endless praise.

If These 5 Signs Sound Familiar, You're Dating the Wrong Person

If you're in a relationship, you're bound to have some ups and downs, like any average couple, but you can also get the feeling as to whether or not the person you're with could be a potential life partner, based on similarities and overall compatibility in the relationship. Unfortunately, sometimes you're not meant to be with someone for marriage, even if the relationship is fantastic, solely based on a few long-term issues you can predict down the road. Here are a few warning signs that you're not meant to put a ring on your finger for the person you're with, and from there, you can determine how much longer to let the relationship last.

I Had Morning Sex With My Partner Every Day For 1 Week, and Here's What Happened

OK, I'm just going to put it out there - sex is one of the best parts about being an adult. Yes, we have to worry about unexciting things like bills, insurance, and building retirement portfolios, but also, we get to have orgasms. I've always loved getting frisky with my partner. When we first started dating almost six years ago, we just couldn't get enough of each other, especially in the bedroom. We were long-distance for the first 16 months of our relationship, so whenever we saw each other in person, we clearly had to make up for lost time.

Once we moved in together, the regularity continued. The vast majority of our days either began or ended (or sometimes both - heyo!) with each other. But over time, it slowly became less frequent, particularly in the mornings.

And let me say this - I don't buy the hackneyed aphorism "the honeymoon phase ends." What actually happens is, you know, real life. We have careers and responsibilities, and sometimes we're just too damn tired to get down. It doesn't mean the excitement has faded; in fact, the deeper our connection grows, the stronger my attraction to him becomes. We still frequently rendezvous at night, but I realized that in our morning routine, we regularly traded getting physical for a few additional minutes of sleep. So, we made a pact to have morning sex every day for a full week - 6 a.m. wake-up calls or not - to see how it affected us and if it was a groove we could get back into.

If you're also not a morning person - less coffee, more sex!

Realization number one: morning sex is incredibly energizing. As someone who's not a morning person in the slightest (another cup of coffee, please?), I relish in those extra 20 minutes I can roll around in bed. But I found that when I rolled around for different reasons, it was actually easier to pull myself out of bed each day. It jump-started my heart rate, equivalent to starting my morning with a short aerobic workout (but a lot more fun than 50 jumping jacks - just saying). I instantly felt more invigorated and focused, as did he. Thus, I concluded, if you're also not a morning person - less coffee, more sex!

My partner and I both began our days in noticeably great moods, as well. In fact, I found that we were more playful with each other while getting ready in the mornings, much like we were when we first moved in together. Most days, we took our showers together rather than separately and continued to kiss and flirt throughout the morning until we parted for the day. Science backs me up here; research shows that sex releases oxytocin (aka the cuddle hormone), a feel-good chemical in our brains that makes us feel more gleeful and closer to our partners. So by getting a healthy dose of the chemical first thing in the a.m., we began each day on a high note. But, full disclosure here, it's not like our morning romp was a magical antidote to end all grievances. There were still times throughout the week when one of us was in an irritable mood, and at times we bickered back and forth. We live together, and we're human. But we both acknowledged that by getting intimate in the early morning, we did feel more connected to each other as the day went on.

I'll admit there were two days during the week when I was really tempted to sleep through the sex sesh. I had one particularly early morning and one particularly late night (damn margaritas), and those extra 20 minutes of sleep sounded really appetizing. Still, we did the deed both mornings, and I found that once I pushed through the fatigue and got started, I was so happy that I did. I thought to myself, "Why in the world would I rather sleep than do this?"

"Let's just keep this going forever," we laughed to each other about halfway into the week. On the eighth day, we hit the snooze button. But on the ninth? We were back at it again.
