Rachel Lindsay's Biggest Pet Peeve About Her Fiancé Bryan Is a Tale We've Heard 100x
It's not as dire as the whole Colton-jumping-the-fence thing, but The Bachelor and Bachelorette alum Rachel Lindsay's wedding to Bryan Abasolo is coming right up - you know, in between moving to Miami, traveling, and all the other projects she's working on - and she's been doing some planning.
"Years ago, I would have said my perfect wedding is walking to the courthouse," she told POPSUGAR. "Then, the shows played out in the most public way possible. Now I want it to be more private. It's not televised. Originally, I was very into that idea, but now that we have had a relationship for a year and a half offscreen, I don't want a production."
What that looks like isn't so cut-and-dried ("the vision is to really just bring both our cultures together," she said), but Lindsay does have a specific beauty look in mind. Keeping reading to find out who's behind her wedding mood board - plus why she's one of the few people in Bachelor Nation who won't push those SugarBear gummies, her biggest pet peeve about Abasolo, and more.

I Went on 30 Dates in 30 Days, and Here's What Happened
"Who has time to find that many guys to go out with?" Rayna Greenberg and Ashley Hesseltine mused as we sipped coffees in the West Village last Fall. The duo hosts the hilarious podcast, Girls Gotta Eat, which is full of raw and relevant humor that hits on exactly what it's like to be a single millennial lady in New York City. At the time I was interviewing them for an article on dating trends in 2019 and simultaneously contemplating a move from San Francisco to New York. I asked them about dating experiments and they shared an idea they had to challenge themselves to 30 dates in 30 days, that they ultimately decided was more trouble than it was worth.
Challenge accepted, I thought to myself.
This comedy duo's throwaway idea piqued my interest. I imagined this was a great way to get to know a new city, hit the ground running on my romantic life in the New Year, and test my dating prowess. I knew I could do it on my home turf, but could I possibly find 30 eligible bachelors to date in my first month in a new city?
With only one way to find out, I decided to make the move official. I landed in Manhattan and started the clock immediately. It wasn't easy, it was only sometimes fun, and it turns out, Rayna and Ashley were right to scrap this idea. By the end, I was exhausted, disillusioned, and considered swearing off dating altogether, but the important thing is, I made it. Here's what happened.

Antidepressants Depleted My Sex Drive - Here Are 5 Ways I Fixed It
According to the American Psychiatric Association, about 1 in 9 Americans are currently taking antidepressant medication, and this number is said to be steadily rising. While there is absolutely no shame in taking prescribed medication to alleviate depression, for many (myself included), the side effects can make other areas of life, well, sad.
One of those side effects? Sexual dysfunction. Not only is sex a key way to build intimacy in our relationships, it's pretty great for improving our moods by releasing a slew of feel-good hormones. And not to mention, it's also really freakin' fun. But if you're struggling to get in the mood or climax because of your medications, don't worry. You're not alone, and there are a few things you can do to boost your sex drive and life back up.
1. Take CBD
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in hemp, hops, and marijuana that's nonpsychoactive, meaning it won't get you high. While I still take two antidepressant medications daily, I never leave home without my CBD staples: select vape pens, topical rubs, and Pro tincture oils from Receptra. CBD takes the edge off of anxiety, gently guides me to sleep, and even relieved some my post-op pain after a recent surgery all without the psychoactive properties of weed itself.
In addition to transforming my mood, CBD has also benefited my sex life, too. Three spritzes of Karezza's In the Moment plant-based mind and body elevation oral spray 15 to 20 minutes before being intimate kicks my drive up a few notches. The spray's unique blend of CBD from organic, full-spectrum hemp oil plus a multitude of traditional arousal-enhancing herbs, adaptogens, and essential oils is formulated to promote relaxation and fires up my senses. It helps me turn my mind off and truly enjoy myself, taking intimate experiences to the next level.
2. Get Sweaty
If your libido is a bit low, try hitting the gym, yoga mat, or sign up for a kickboxing class. It's well-known that exercise helps to significantly reduce stress and improve your mood by producing feel-good endorphins and lowering cortisol levels, both of which are necessary for a healthy sex drive. But there are even more benefits to your sweat session. A study by the University of Texas demonstrated that "exercise enhances physiological sexual arousal in women." Looking and feeling your best boosts your self-confidence, and when you feel good, you're much more open to being intimate and exploring your sexuality.
3. Communicate With Your Partner
Open communication is one of the best things you can do to increase satisfaction and pleasure during sex, so speak up! Sex doesn't have to be taboo anymore. Try talking to your partner about what you like, what typically gets you to climax, and how they can help get you there. It takes two to tango, so you both should feel equally satisfied during your intimate times together. Feeling comfortable and supported is necessary to letting go under the sheets.
4. Experiment and Explore
Want to take your intimate time to the next level? Have more fun, because, yes, sex should be fun! Stuck in the same rhythm and routine? Switch it up and try something new! Whether it's perusing a sex shop together for new toys, donning lingerie, or even moving it outside the bedroom (kitchen table, anyone?), changing up the norm adds an element of excitement and can help relieve pressure on the act itself - which leads to more pleasure for you both.
5. Talk to Your Doctor
If you're finding that your sex drive is still in a dip or you're still experiencing more lows than highs, it's time to chat with a health professional. Schedule an appointment with your doctor, therapist, or psychiatrist ASAP. It's important to be honest with your doctor about what's going on with your lifestyle so they can offer solutions catered to your needs. Feeling comfortable with your mental health team is key to recovery, health, and happiness.

How Often Do You Need to Turn Off Your iPhone to Let It Rest? Prepare to Be Surprised
According to research, American adults spend nearly half of their day consuming content from digital media - with almost one-third of this time designated to their smartphone. That's a lot of time spent downloading apps, surfing Instagram, and texting friends. But how often are we supposed to power down our devices when we're virtually always "on"?
As it turns out, there is no need to power down your cell phone often to let it rest and recharge. "You don't need to power down your smartphone to give it a rest," Tim Fisher, general manager for technology information and advice site Lifewire, told POPSUGAR. "Like laptops, smartphones can benefit from the occasional restart, the automatic process of turning it off and back on again, to clean up any leftover junk after closing apps and software, but there's no major benefit in and of itself to having it completely powered off." So, if you, like me, frantically charge your phone when the battery is low instead of letting it actually die and turn off, there's no need to worry.
However, if you're experiencing malfunctions with your smartphone, a power down may help get it back on track. "Powering off your iPhone is a good idea if you're experiencing app crashes, software glitches, or other atypical behaviors," Bree Bengle, a tech expert from Asurion, a global tech care company, explained to POPSUGAR. "Other other than that, you don't really need to worry about it. People ask pretty regularly about how often they should be powering off or restarting their phone, and the answer is pretty simple: as long as your phone is behaving normally, you don't need to turn it off."
The Unexpected Red Flag That Meant My Partner Was Cheating on Me
One of the most painful aspects of being cheated on is looking back and feeling foolish (on top of heartbroken) for not recognizing what now seem like obvious signs. I'd always heard the tell-tale signals that a guy was cheating: a new workout routine, a change in schedule, sudden secrecy around his phone or whereabouts. But for me, the biggest red flag in hindsight was one you don't hear about as much: extreme moodiness.
About six years ago I was totally, dreamily, blindingly in love with Matt. He seemed fully committed to me and never gave me any reason to doubt that. So for the first time in my life, I let myself fully relax into a relationship. There were no sneaky looks at his phone or peevish texts if he was at work happy hour too late. I'd been burned enough in the past to stay vigilant about those classic cheating signs, and I saw none. Besides, I was so sick of having to play spy instead of girlfriend. So when he went to Dallas for a bachelor party, I gave him space to be with his friends and only sent a few "Hope you guys are having fun! Make Tyler hold your hair back if you puke! ;)" texts here and there.
Related: 7 Signs You're in Love With a Liar
Matt's grouchiness was in fact resentment at me for keeping him from the girl he actually wanted to be with. And when he'd hear from her, he didn't even bother to keep that joy under wraps.
But a few days after he got back, Matt started snapping at me. It began as little things: he used to chuckle at my love of Diptyque candles, now I got a lecture about how reckless I was to spend $40 on a candle and how could we have a future together if this is how I handle money?! Uh, OK. My once-endearing habits suddenly became intolerably irritating. Honey on my avocado? "You're so weird," he sneered at me and my poor, innocent breakfast. "Sometimes it's like you do things just to be strange." I . . . what? It's a nightmare to think that your partner doesn't love you, but somehow worse to think they don't like you. And suddenly, Matt definitely didn't seem to like me. I was like some annoying kid sister he couldn't get rid of. So, out went the candles. Honey stayed in tea and off avocados. Soon I was walking on eggshells, dampening down my personality and needs because I never knew what formerly innocuous habit or trait would set him off.
But these outbursts were juxtaposed with something even stranger: gushy bursts of pure adoration. A giddiness that seemed to come out of nowhere. One minute Matt would be broodily texting like some surly teenager, the next he'd sweep me into his arms and twirl me around, like he'd just gotten the best news of his life. Well, in a way, he did.
He was getting texts from her.
All of this centered around her. Her was a girl he'd met in Dallas, a friend of a friend of someone. But it didn't matter who she was. Her was the girl who was somehow so awesome and incandescent, being with me was pure misery by comparison. Matt's grouchiness was in fact resentment at me for keeping him from the girl he actually wanted to be with. And when he'd hear from her, he didn't even bother to keep that joy under wraps. He'd perversely spewed it out . . . on me. At the time, I was grateful for any positive attention. But in hindsight, it's that sweetness that makes me the angriest, because it kept me hanging on. See, I can't break up with him, I'd think. He really does love me.
Ugh.
Related: The Dating Mistakes to Avoid in 2019, According to Professional Matchmaker Patti Stanger
But of course, I didn't know any of this at the time. At one point, the flip-flopping became so extreme, I even asked his sister if Matt was dealing with a mental health issue. Silly me, he was just a good old-fashioned cheating man, one who was too cowardly to just break up with me. Instead, he preferred to terrorize me into dumping him, which I finally did.
Two weeks after I walked out, he fessed up about her. His sister guilted him into coming clean, and I was grateful for some kind of explanation, even if it broke my heart and made me seethe: how could I have missed the signs? Now, years later, I realize that the red flags of cheating can go way beyond the typical. Just as every relationship dynamic is different, so is every infidelity. So what are we supposed to do? Spend all our time psychotically analyzing every morsel of our partner's behavior? No. That's not living, nor is it loving. At some point, we have to trust: trust our partner, trust our instinct, and trust that no matter how it plays out, we will be OK on the other side!
Hillary Clinton's Mean Girls Tweet Dishes Out So Much Shade, My Beach Umbrella Is Quaking
If a Donald Trump tweet drops on the internet and nobody pays any attention, does it even make a sound? That theory has yet to be proved, as POTUS and his thumbs are still working hard to take jabs at his political opponents on social media. Hillary Clinton knows this attention better than almost anyone, which is why Trump's comments about her decision to opt out of the 2020 presidential race were unsurprising to followers, and likely to Clinton herself.
"(Crooked) Hillary Clinton confirms she will not run in 2020, rules out a third bid for White House." Aw-shucks, does that mean I won't get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed!
- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 5, 2019
Trump's pointed remarks, while certainly harsh, actually ended up serving as a reminder of the amount of shade Clinton is still willing to dish out. She dug into the iconic early 2000s archives to serve up a sassy response in the form of a Mean Girls GIF.
- Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) March 5, 2019
Sure, she never mentioned Trump by name, but it's clear who this burn was meant for. Trump frequently circles back to criticize Clinton personally, despite the fact that their head-to-head election ended over two years ago. Sometimes she chooses to fire back, and when she does - phew! Just add this most recent tweet to the list of her legendary burns.

I've Been Online Dating For a Decade - Is My Time Up?
In some capacity, I've been online dating for a decade. I've dabbled with Match, OkCupid, Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge, been put on waiting lists for the more exclusive apps like Raya, and watched trendy apps come and go (remember Salad Match, the site for singles based on their salad preferences?). I've given them all a chance to see what sticks, and almost 10 years later, I still have a blank slate. Of all the ways to meet people, online dating has been the least successful route for me.
Yet when I meet couples who've found success with online dating, their outcomes are obviously different, but the timelines are mostly the same. "I was on the app three days before I met her," one said. "We met within a few weeks of me being on the app," said another. These couples find love in what even Rihanna might deem a hopeless place, fairly fast. This made me ask myself, Am I doing something wrong? Probably not, as online dating is a pretty simple concept. But more interestingly, has my time on dating apps expired?
After one too many conversations with couples who found each other online within months of downloading an app, I decided to create a survey to test a theory: You have a brief window of time to successfully connect with someone on a dating app (meaning long-term relationship, marriage, etc.). I surveyed 100 people (via SurveyMonkey) in relationships that stemmed from online dating (Match, eHarmony, Tinder, Bumble, Grindr, etc.), and the results seemed to confirm this.
- 16 percent met their significant other online within two weeks or less
- 14 percent met their significant other online within a month or less
- 29 percent met their significant other online within six months or less
- 17 percent met their significant other online within a year or less
- 12 percent met their significant other online within two years or less
- 12 percent met their significant other online after more than two years on an app
There's a big spike around the six months or less mark, and then it goes down after that. In fact, nearly 60 percent of those surveyed report having met their significant other online within six months or less, and 76 percent within a year or less.
There could be a few reasons for this. For one thing, there's the mindset. I put more energy into online dating at the beginning. I remember when Tinder first came out and it was fun, fresh, and new. It was exciting to swipe and chat. When you have a more optimistic attitude, you tend to have more positive results.
This leads to the second reason why my time may be up. The longer I've been on an app, the more I've experienced online dating fatigue. In many cases, I swipe through the same people over and over again, no matter what app I'm on, and no one talks to each other. Or you start a conversation with someone and they either block you for no reason or troll you with weirdly unfunny jokes (sample message: "I'm a janitor and my best friend's Ben Affleck" " . . . OK?"). This makes me take an app less seriously than I did when I first started using it.
So is online dating a waste of time for me at this point? Undetermined. I'm still on a few apps, still swiping and chatting, but they definitely don't have the same hopeful promise they once had. And that's especially true after reviewing the results of my survey and thinking back on how long I've been doing this. Maybe I'm just waiting for the next new app to strike my fancy and make me excited about online dating again. Or maybe I'm just banking on the dating application that I've had the best results with: the in-real-life one.
Say "Yes" to Portability With the Help of Walmart's 8 Top-Rated Bluetooth Earbuds
Last week, my friend told me AirPods were sold out in New York City. "There's a two-month waiting list," she said. I gasped. Not only do they have a similar in-ear design for maximum portability, but they all have received top ratings at Walmart, too.

American Idol Judges Called This Singer a "Genius" After His Unbelievably Unique Audition
It's not typical for potential American Idol contestants to play two instruments during their auditions, but Alejandro Aranda is no ordinary musician. On March 6, the 24-year-old from Pomona, CA, performed for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan with his original song "Out Loud" and left them speechless with his vocal talents and unbelievable speed on the guitar.
Instead of giving Aranda the automatic pass to Hollywood, Richie first requested the self-taught performer play another tune - this time on the piano. While Aranda admitted he hadn't played piano "in a minute," once he started at the keys, the room fell under his spell again. "I'm in the presence of greatness," Bryan exclaimed. "I've just never seen anything like that."
Aranda named Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Rezner, Chopin, and Bach as his musical inspirations. Drawing from such a unique mix, it's clear why Aranda can claim a one-of-a-kind style. The audition process is still ongoing, but Perry has already declared him the winner. Only time will tell if Aranda takes home the top prize, but for now, there's no question: he's headed to Hollywood.
Check the Dictionary - Kim Kardashian's Sheer Leopard Bodysuit Just Redefined "Wild"
If you thought Kim Kardashian's last leopard look was wild, you haven't seen anything yet. The day after Kim stepped out in a head-to-toe animal-print ensemble, she made another appearance in Paris, wearing a seriously bold look. Kim turned to designer Azzedine Alaia once again for her outfit, this time opting for a sheer leopard bodysuit.
Her almost-see-through choice still selectively covered her, ahem, assets with opaque velvet fabric. Is anyone else getting serious Shania Twain "That Don't Impress Me Much?" music video vibes? She paired the whole look with her go-to PVC heels and flaunted a matching beret in an Instagram photo. Read on to see more glimpses of Kim's look - would you dare to try it yourself?

Aretha Franklin Takes Us to Church in the Trailer For the Amazing Grace Documentary
The official trailer for Aretha Franklin's upcoming documentary, Amazing Grace, is here, and you might want to have a box of tissues nearby for this one. The film centers around Franklin's unforgettable 1972 performance of "Amazing Grace" at the New Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles. The trailer features Franklin standing behind the pulpit as she begins to sing with remarkable authority and stage presence. Although Franklin was just 29 years old at the time, she was able to stir everyone in the congregation with her stunning vocals. The clips were shot by Sydney Pollack and compiled by Alan Elliott.
That same day at the church, the late and great Franklin also belted other songs, including "Mary, Don't You Weep" and "Climbing Higher Mountains." The show was then turned into the 1972 soundtrack Amazing Grace, which is still the best-selling live gospel album of all time. And up until recently, the footage of that performance was unreleased. So get ready to go to church when the documentary hits theaters on April 5!
The Hilarious Trailer For Netflix's Someone Great Will Make You Want to Hug Your BFFs
A new Netflix romantic comedy is on the way, but this time around, it seems the story is more about falling in love with yourself and your friends, rather than a significant other. And, that's a message we can certainly get behind!
In the first trailer, above, we meet music journalist Jenny (Gina Rodriguez), who has landed a coveted gig at Rolling Stone. The only catch? It means moving from her home in New York City to San Francisco, leaving behind her longtime best friends Erin (DeWanda Wise) and Blair (Brittany Snow). It also complicates matters with her boyfriend of nine years (Lakeith Stanfield), who decides he can't do long distance and that their relationship has effectively run its course. Heartbroken and desperate for distraction, Jenny, Erin, and Blair set out to have one final, wild adventure together over the course of one insane day in the city.
Watch the trailer for the Jennifer Kaytin Robinson-directed film above, before it arrives on Netflix on April 19!

14 Celebrity Book Clubs That Will Inspire You to Get Your Read On
Reading is cooler than ever these days, partly thanks to the fast rise of #bookstagram, and partly thanks to some of our favorite characters, like Hermione Granger, Belle, and Elle Woods. Even better, the actresses who brought them to life have started their own book clubs, championing their love of reading.
The celebrity book club trend is growing, and sometimes it's hard to keep up. While some are officially branded and have their own Instagram pages and/or websites, like Oprah's Book Club (which requires no introduction) and Reese Witherspoon's Book Club x Hello Sunshine, others are yearly roundups and lists by figures like Barack Obama and Bill Gates, and (more often) others are casual suggestions by celebrities on their personal pages. These recommendations range from quick posts about a book they love, like Brie Larson does, to in-depth discussions offered by Emma Watson. While it's mostly women participating in this trend, it's nice to see some men in the mix, with the entry of NFL quarterback Andrew Luck, and Jimmy Fallon's Summer book club.
Here's a roundup of these famous readers and some of their recent picks to add to that never-ending to-read list we all seem to have.

POPSUGAR beauty editor Carrie Carrollo's story is so inspiring! Growing up as a transracial adoptee, people always questioned her ethnic identity. Mindy Kaling Ranking Random Oreo Flavors Is the Type of Content We Needed Today
When Mindy Kaling found out it was National Oreo Day on March 6, she did what any self-respecting Oreo-lover would do: she ranked random flavors. She shared a delightful Instagram Story with riveting real-time reviews of six of the most memorable Oreos: Birthday Cake, Mint, Lemon, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Red Velvet, and - newest to the club - Most Stuf. No, this was not sponsored, and yes, Mindy really does just love Oreos as much as you do (reason 4,567 she's relatable).
"Believe it or not, this is like one-third of the amount of Oreo cookies that are actually out there, but I couldn't imagine being able to eat 50 Oreo cookies in a sitting, so this is our sampling," Mindy said. (Fan-favorite S'mores Oreos were not invited to the party, but that's because they don't return until Spring). The actress went one by one and delivered an honest review of each cookie, and if you've tried 'em all, you'll probably agree. See snaps from her funny Instagram Story ahead, which ends with an obvious winner.

Look who flew in for Fashion Week! We owe it to them to take a peek at what they wore when the cameras flashed, before the lights went dim and the new collection - which they'll surely get to choose from - debuted on the runway. Keep reading to check out all the buzzy arrivals from this season.
If the Plot of Five Feet Apart Sounds Familiar, You've Probably Seen 1 of These Similar Movies
The upcoming teen drama Five Feet Apart feels like a fresh take on a genre we've seen lots of before: teenagers falling in love amid difficult or even tragic circumstances that threaten to tear them apart or keep them from ever coming together in the first case. In this case, they're both cystic fibrosis patients whose ability to get close is limited - literally: they can't get within six feet of each other. Five Feet Apart arrives in theaters on March 15, but in the meantime, if you're looking for an emotional teen movie with a hint (or more) of angst and impossible odds, check out one of these eight movies. We guarantee you'll cry at least once!
The Dirt: Netflix's Mötley Crüe Movie Has the Most Insane Cast
If you thought Bohemian Rhapsody was wild, just wait until you see The Dirt, the latest rock band biopic coming to Netflix. Based on Mötley Crüe's bestselling 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band, this long-awaited biopic will follow the story of the heavy metal band's rise from obscurity to super stardom and international fame during the course of the 1980s. The book (which is supposedly all true, as unbelievable as it seems) boasts some of the grittiest and raunchiest tales of drugs, alcohol, and groupies that you could imagine, and we're both anxious and terrified to see Mötley Crüe's story come to life. Read on to see who was brave enough to take on the roles in this biopic, debuting on March 22.
Eddie Vedder's Cover of A Star Is Born's "Maybe It's Time" Would Make Jackson Maine Proud
While performing his set at Tempe, AZ's Innings Festival, Eddie Vedder decided to give all the A Star Is Born fans in the crowd a special treat. After telling the audience that the song "is about another guy from here," the rock musician launched into a soulful cover of "Maybe It's Time," which is performed by Bradley Cooper's Jackson Maine in the Oscar-winning film (yes, the actor was really singing).
What makes the onstage moment even cooler is that Cooper has said his character - a grizzled, deep-voiced musician - was partly inspired by the Pearl Jam frontman. According to Cooper, he used Vedder as a resource for insight into what it's really like to be a famous rock star, asking him "9,000 questions" in order to properly flesh out Jackson.
"[Vedder] gave me minor, little things that only musicians know about what to do, just aesthetically and the inner workings," Cooper explained, before revealing Vedder's (hilarious) reaction to Cooper's decision to reboot the film: "He thought it was crazy I was going to do this movie. He was like, 'What? Bro, don't do that.'"
The cover also inspired the awe of songwriter Jason Isbell, who penned the track for A Star Is Born, on Twitter. "Holy sh*t Eddie Vedder sang my Bradley Cooper song in his set tonight. That is by far the strangest sentence I've ever composed but it's certainly a huge honor," he wrote. "I was 12 when 'Ten' came out and by god I learned how to play every song on it."
Listen to Vedder's interpretation of the song ahead!
Oat Em Gee! These Oat Milk Ice Creams Look Like a Dairy-Free Dream Come True
I grew up on jumbo-sized ice cream sundaes, with emphasis on the extra scoops. So when lactose intolerance hit me in high school, I stubbornly tried to power through - much to the dismay of my stomach and sanity. As an adult, I'm a little more responsible and try to pick up dairy-free options when I'm in need of a sweet treat.
There's no shortage of selections when I walk down the freezer aisle; avocado, coconut milk, and almond milk are just a few bases to choose from. To my delight, the game is about to change once more with the addition of So Delicious's oat milk ice cream - following right in line with one of 2019's biggest trends.
As spotted by Refinery 29, the healthy ingredient taking over grocery store shelves and my Instagram feed hit the ice cream freezers of retailers like Whole Foods last month in three vegan and gluten-free flavors: Peanut Butter and Raspberry, Oatmeal Cookie, and Caramel Apple Crumble. If these tickle your dairy-free fancy, add a pint (or three!) to your cart on the next shopping trip.
Get the full run-down on the flavors below.
Princess Eugenie Has a Job Way More Important Than Simply Being a Royal
She may be the wife of Jack Brooksbank now, but if you think that is Princess Eugenie's only job, then you've totally underestimated her. Unlike her cousins Prince William and Prince Henry, Eugenie and her older sister, Beatrice, are not 'working royals,' which means that, even though her schedule is free from all of those royal events and obligations, she isn't eligible to receive the Sovereign Grant, a tax-funded salary made up of revenue from the Crown Estate, given annually to fund the queen and other royals in their official duties. Don't feel too bad, though - we imagine that her enormous trust fund (and the aid from her father, who "supports both of his daughters financially from his private income") will keep her afloat.
But if she's not fulfilling royal duties on a daily basis, what exactly is the 28-year-old princess up to? Eugenie has always had a passion for art (she studied English literature and art history at Newcastle University, from which she graduated in 2012), and in 2013, she moved to New York City to pursue that passion. As she told Harper's Bazaar back in 2016, "I've loved art since I was very little. I knew I definitely wouldn't be a painter, but I knew this was the industry for me. I love being able to share my passion for art with people."
Her first full-time job was at a high-end online auction house called Paddle8, which caters to modern collectors looking for very specific and very expensive collectible items. She spent roughly two years working at the shop as a benefit auctions manager, becoming the first royal to actually set up a life in the US, a move that was pretty shocking. In the Summer of 2015, the princess moved back to London to work for the Hauser & Wirth art gallery as an associate director, earning a promotion to the position of director two years later. According to Eugenie, her job responsibilities include "planning special projects, supporting the artists in the gallery, and managing events," which seems like the perfect fit for the princess.
Like her sister, Eugenie has involved herself in a number of philanthropic ventures in addition to her full-time job. She is a patron of the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital's Redevelopment Appeal (as she spent time at RNOH after she was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12) and the Teenage Cancer Trust, alongside her mother, Sarah Ferguson. Eugenie also serves as an ambassador of Project 0, a charity that works to prevent plastic pollution in the ocean. As cofounder of the Anti-Slavery Collective, Eugenie contributes to the fight against modern slavery, human trafficking, and violence against women, even speaking as a representative at the United Nations.
Eugenie and Beatrice's parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, may be divorced, but they are a united front when it comes to supporting their daughters' endeavors. "As a father, my wish for my daughters is for them is to be modern working young women, who happen to be members of the Royal Family, and I am delighted to see them building their careers," Andrew said in a press release. In an interview with People, their mother added, "These are two girls who've worked so hard in their own careers and have taken time off today to spread the word on teen cancer, which is so important."
Haley Lu Richardson Is Dating Your Crush in Five Feet Apart, and Engaged to Your Other Crush IRL
Nestled in the heartstrings-pulling sentiment of A Walk to Remember and The Fault in Our Stars, the sweet trailer for Five Feet Apart probably had you feeling all mushy inside. Two teenagers with cystic fibrosis who can't touch each other? Tissues, please! Viewers may immediately recognize the male lead as none other than Cole Sprouse, who's more or less cemented in pop culture as Riverdale's Jughead. But if you're wondering why his costar Haley Lu Richardson looks so familiar, it's because you've probably seen her before. The young actress's work is known across both popular and independent circuits, so she should definitely be on your radar!
Richardson first started her work in entertainment as a dancer, training in a competitive dance company for years before moving to Hollywood at age 16 to pursue acting. After a handful of TV roles, including a recurring one in the Pretty Little Liars spinoff, Ravenswood, Richardson debuted her first two major features in 2014 - the post-apocalyptic The Last Survivors and rom-com The Young Kieslowski.
One of her biggest projects to date is her role in M. Night Shyamalan's 2017 thriller Split, in which she plays Claire Benoit, one of the teenage girls captured by James McAvoy's "Dennis" personality to be sacrificed to the Beast. You might also remember Richardson from another angsty teen drama before Five Feet Apart - she starred as Hailee Steinfeld's grounded and sweet BFF in The Edge of Seventeen in 2016.
Besides bigger crowd-pleasers, Richardson has also been praised for her work in slice-of-life indie projects such as Columbus and Support the Girls. In Columbus, she stars across John Cho as Casey, a young woman who resides in the small town of Columbus, IN, in order to take care of her mother, a recovering drug addict. While it's no blockbuster, Columbus is a great quarter-life crisis flick, as well as a cinematography delight with its lush shots of beautiful architecture. Richardson deservedly received critical acclaim for it, earning a Gotham Independent Film Award nomination for best actress.
Her somber persona flips a complete 180 in Support the Girls, in which Richardson portrayed Maci, Regina Hall's spirited right-hand woman at a Hooters-like restaurant. It should be noted that the underrated movie just so happens to be one of Barack Obama's favorite 2018 films. The same year that Support the Girls came out, the actress also starred in two smaller historical dramas - Operation Finale and The Chaperone.
You can check out updates about Richardson's life and projects on her Instagram, where she occasionally posts about her fiance Brett Dier (Michael from Jane the Virgin!) and her cute Etsy shop for crocheted goods. In the meanwhile, peek ahead to see her latest roles!
Captain Marvel: Everything You Need To Know About Marvel Villain Ronan the Accuser
A superhero movie isn't much good without an equally super villain. The movies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have definitely had their share of epic villains, from one-off baddies like Justin Hammer to long-term antagonists with their own epic story arcs, like Loki or the Winter Soldier. In the new Captain Marvel, a familiar face makes another appearance: Ronan the Accuser, the Kree extremist last seen in Guardians of the Galaxy. Played by Lee Pace, the blue-skinned zealot is back, perhaps even to show us a bit of his own origin story. Here's a recap of what we've learned about the character so far.
Ronan the Accuser first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2014, when he was the primary villain of Guardians of the Galaxy. In that movie, his backstory and motivations are revealed. His hatred for Nova Empire and Xandar stems from the Kree-Nova War, which took place a millennium prior to the events of Guardians of the Galaxy. After the empires signed a peace treaty, he was so angry and disgusted that he ran away from the reaches of the Kree Empire, becoming an outlaw warlord and eventually agreeing to work for Thanos to attempt to exact his vengeance. It was during this time that he attacked the home world of Drax the Destroyer as well.
In the first Guardians film, he is seen searching for the Orb (later revealed to be the Power Stone) for Thanos, in exchange for Thanos's aid in destroying Xandar's home world. It's Ronan who sends Gamora to pursue Star-Lord and the Orb, thus inadvertently helping to form the Guardians of the Galaxy. When Ronan realizes Gamora has switched sides, he takes Nebula with him and sets off in pursuit, ultimately gaining possession of the Orb and taking the powers of the Infinity Stone within it for himself, betraying Thanos in the process. During the Battle of Xandar, Ronan's forces destroy almost the entirety of the Nova Corps fleet, but he loses control of the Power Stone during his confrontation with the Guardians and is subsequently destroyed when they direct its energy at him.
Ronan appears again in Captain Marvel, alongside his Guardians-era second-in-command Korath the Pursuer, as a less extremist, younger version of the character. Captain Marvel takes place some years before the events of Guardians of the Galaxy, allowing Ronan to appear even though he's dead in the present day of the MCU. Here, his ties to the Kree are again at the forefront, as the war between the Kree and Skrull empires plays a major part in Captain Marvel, with the Kree being presented as the enemies of the shape-shifting Skrull.
In the comics, he's a longtime foe of the major hero teams, including the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers. He has ties to the original Captain Marvel, aka the Kree alien Mar-Vell, too: Mar-Vell initially works with Ronan and the Kree to scout out Earth, but the two become enemies when Ronan is overtaken by the Supreme Intelligence, an artificial intelligence that rules the Kree. Although Ronan the Accuser is not one of the long-running villains of the Marvel movies, he's definitely among the most memorable!
